    Accuracy

Not that I'm jealous, as I have a stalker too, but I also have lots of other types as well. How come you are the only dev that posts with any regularity at all about archetypes? Might we expect to see the same amount of feedback about all the other ones?

    Napoleon Complex (Technology Robotics/Poison Mastermind)

Pierre La Rue was constantly teased about his miniscule height all throughout his childhood, and he always took the cruel ribbing the harshest way possible. He was weak both physically and mentally. His concerns about his small size lead to severe social awkwardness, which was furthered even more by his innate grasp of math and science, which branded him as a geek by his ruthless peers. The more he was ridiculed, the more despondent he became.

But later in school, his class had a unit on Napoleon Bonaparte. Pierre learned that, in spite, or perhaps because of Napoleon’s small physical stature, Napoleon’s mental stature grew so strong that he became one of the most powerful conquerors in the history of the world.

This lit a spark in Pierre, and he became determined to follow Napoleon’s example. He vowed to apply his acumen in math, science, and technology to become a dominate force to be reckoned with.

Thus, he created vicious, lethal robots, and began calling himself Napoleon Complex.

  3. Great news

    BUT

    A bit confused.

I suppose we will have to ask on a chat channel or something if someone has a particular story arc, or something like that.

If we do the exemplaring down thing, will we get all of the clues and all of the before and after mission text? I really don't care about any token enhancement reward. I just want all the mission text, plus the sovengier text. Would the person I rescue or kidnap or bad or good guy I catch or take out say my name in the mission, etc?

Oh, and one other badge question: will it ever be possible for people who started playing COH the week it came out to ever get the Isolator badge?

In COH, I missed the the Vahz Plauge Stopper arc, and I missed Julius the troll and Talshak in the Hollows, an later missed Croatoa. I'm a total completist with my main in COH. I've gone back to get the Plague Stopper badge, and lots of other stuff, puting me over 200 badges now.

In COV I've managed to skip the red haired guy and Mr Bocor with three different characters. I like teaming.

I can't think of a reason why the devs would want to "avoid" having level 50's generate extra prestige. It sounds like a perfect reward for maxing out your character, to me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Why would you want anything other than level 50's in your SG then?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Is it possible for you to run metrics on exactly what kind of characters a player has, what kind of character they are currently playing, and what levels they have?

I got my first level 50 two or three weeks ago. The last time I played him was about 10 minutes after the COV head start went live. I've been building up villains ever since.

I think that would be a fairly typical case right now.

And if I don't play my hero for a couple weeks, they'll remove him from the sg.

If COV wasn't out yet, I might have removed my 50 from my sg and put an alt in it. But since I'm not there much anymore, keeping my 50 around doesn't do anything for them.

And I'm sure a lot of people who've gotten to 50 and aren't interested in COV are no longer playing the game.

So, in many cases, an SG wouldn't want level 50s in it. We'd just be taking up space.

But to have two Hercs and make them combine while they are at your beck and call...sexy.

Also, how about Master Illusionist? You could neuter her, if you need to, by removing her spawns, but keeping her fear and psychic stuff.

Yes, you'll be using your established characters.

Ah. This is the quote the threw me off. I thought I could just wait for them to come to Port Oakes from Mercy. Took me longer than it should have to realize that that wasn't going to be the case. I hopped about 10 zones (about 8 of them being Mercies) over 3 servers, finally saw one of them, Manticore, and he hit me with his special sound loop crash power.

    CoH/CoV Teaming

    [ QUOTE ]
    Not at this time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Hmm.

    Potential higher level content, perhaps?

COV will go up to 40 first before the more complex stuff gets added that will make 40-50 more interesting.

I think this would be a cool thing.

And to have a special super-hazard where PVP is completely disabled.

This takes me back with the whole Beyonder storyline in Marvel that basically had every hero in all the comics fighting together, and, if I remember correctly, Magneto helped the X-Men.

As people have said here, it could be Similar to the Hive, and/or similar to the Rikti Crash Site.

I was kind of underwhelmed when I first visited the crash site because I thought the ship would be MUCH bigger. The military stuff there is cool, though.

So the Rikti could find a new way back to Earth, which could bring us together to fight them. They could be special Super-Rikti or something. The ship could be much larger and could be fully operational and powerfully lethal.

The ship could hover above the zone, and periodically send out threatening pod walker vehicles like in Half-Life 2 and War of the Worlds, etc.

First of all, I'm overwhelmed by your response. "You guys really like me!" Thank you! Your comments mean a lot to this ol' hack.

Secondly, I'm still writing but no longer for CoH. In fact, I'll be writiing for a wide spectrum of upcoming MMOs within the NCsoft family. However, there is one project that I'm really excited about but I can't say anything regarding it just yet. In time though...

    You guys are wonderful.

    Sally Spawn Rate

Heh, I read this thread right before logging in last night, and less than a minute after I was in the game, someone reported Jurassik on th Justice Badge channel. Thankfully it was a nice team who waited for all the team mates to get there before starting to bring him down.

Also, later on, someone asked how often Krakken spawns, and a couple people said every day or two.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Gotta agree with people there, after coming from WoW this kind of openess and honesty from a dev is as unbelievable as, well as a giant prehistoric lake monster I guess

I am SO glad I changed games

    [/ QUOTE ]

hehe, I hope the devs frame your post!
I'm sure they love hearing that.

And although I've never played WOW for more than 5 minutes (was never interested because I'm not a big fan of fantasy and I hate the graphics, but installed the free trial anyway), I have played other games with devs that did not level with their players. Sometimes I get warm fuzzies reading stuff the devs here say, other things...not so much. But still, overall, the best devs I've encountered by far.

I haven't hunted for Sally yet, but on the Justice Badge Channel, JSBAS and JSMAS channels I'm a member of, I have not heard of a single Sally spawn, and have heard quite a few people both inquiring if she's up and saying that she's a myth. So this is a great change for these people

    Now, on to other monsters.

I play the game WAAAY too much, and there are a few monsters I've either never heard of spawning, or have heard of them spawning INCREDIBLY rarely.

Here are monster spawns in the order of frequency I've heard them reported on the Justice channels JSMAS, JSBAS, and now their successor Justice Badge (thanks tic toc):

    - Ghost Ship and Lusca virtually tied for most frequently reported spawns. Grant it, IP and Talos are places where there are often lots of people around to spot them. But sometimes I'm amazed when I hear that there is yet another Lusca sighting just an hour after the last one. When I hear someone say "luscas up" or "the oc's up" or (erroneously but still fun to say) "squid's up", I don't blink an eye. There's even been an issue since I5 of the ship getting "stuck" somewhere in the middle of Talos on occasion.

    - Paladin construction: occurs maybe once a night, at most, usually. Sometimes several days can pass before the next sighting. It is frequent enough for me to never get any sense of surprise when I hear it has spawned. Come to think of it, it kind of goes in waves. Sometimes I hear of it every day or two, but recently, I don't recall hearing of anyone spotting it since I5, but I have been coming on the game a bit later recently. Grant it, many low level players who frequent KR the most don't know about monster and badge reporting channels. I didn't know about them til I was in my mid 20s.

There is a HUGE gap between the spawning of the Paladin construction and any other monster spawns. I'm not totally sure how to order them, because they all happen extremely rarely.

    - Krakken: I play maybe 4 hours or more many nights, sometimes every night of the week (I have no life), sometimes even longer on weekends. I've heard of Krakken spawning maybe 4 times in a few months while I've been logged in. Often from like 8 PM to 1 AM Central Time, and have been on the Justice Monster JSMAS and Justice Badge JSBAS (now both being folded into the new Justice Badge channel) for months. Two of those times were within maybe 2 days. And for 3 of the 4 times I heard of him spawning, he was down before I could even set foot in PP. Grant it, Krakken has multiple places where he can spawn, and PP can be a pain to navigate, but enough people know about www.vidiotmaps.com and try to hunt him, so reports of him should be more frequent.

    - Adamastor: I've heard of him spawning maybe three times in the few months I've been a member of these special channels. Once I was lucky to have been on a team doing a COT mission in a cave actually IN the graveyard, so all I had to do is quit the team, run like a couple minutes, help bring him down, and re-join my team already in progress, still in the same mission. Grant it, it's so darn hard to even see ANYTHING in DA, and I think hardly anyone goes in there unless they have to for the occasional mission. I didn't even want to hunt BP spirit masks there, prefering the area outside DA in Talos, when I could see better, even though they mostly come out at night, mostly. As big and ugly and naked as this monster is, even he's kind of hard to spot because his ashen complexion blends in with the murky fog.

    - Babbage: I've heard of him spawning in Boomtown once in the last few months. I'm glad that I was up later than I should have been to hear about him being reported, so I was happy to have been at the Steel greenline stop already, and was the first to join the team. I told some SG mates, who told some friends, but, due to people's excitement about having him spawn, quite a few people could not make it to the zone on time. Grant it, NO ONE goes to Boomtown. I hunted there one night with a herding tank when I was around level 15 or something, and my only time going back was during a TF and while badge hunting (my main is a total badge w#!re). So the rarety of anyone even visiting Boomtown might be a big reason why no one spots him. At least the TF Babbage gives the task force team badges.

    - Jurrassik: NEVER EVER a single sighting while I've been on these special channels in the last few months. I should say never any REAL sightings, because some idiot thought it would be funny to spam the monster channel saying that he was spotted. The prankster said Jurrassik was in an area that is not shown to be a spawn point on Vidiotmaps, and when a lot of people raced around Crey's looking for him, no one found him, and everyone who asked where he was spotted ended up getting no answer, and someone announced on the channel to never ever trust the prankster because the [censored] had a reputation for making things up. Crey's is a zone that players 30 and up are sent to on missions all the time. I'm there sometimes nightly for one reason or another, as was the case the last 2 nights. SOMEONE should have spotted him. The TF Jurassik did not give me or anyone on my team a badge, although someone in my SG said he'd gotten the badge when he did the TF months before.

If you can fix the Sally spawn, I, and many others, would appreciate it if you take a look at the other monsters too.
  14. Thanks for the posts, Positron. I remember reading something you or Statesman said about this a few weeks ago, that you hoped you'd be able to datamine but weren't sure how feasible that would be. So the result was not a big surprise.

I did Moonfire on live like a week before that was posted, so I was a little upset. I even re-copied over to the Training Room just to see if I got the badge or not (aren't I a loon?). But I understand.

So it's pretty much up to me how I deal with this: either just know I've done it and move on, or go back and do it again. It's looking like the second option will happen because I am, what someone called me in jest, a total "badge w!@#e" with that character.

But since all the TFs will have badges, do you know who has or does not have the badges? If you do, I, like others have said, would like soveineirs like we have for story arcs. I like to be able to read things over again at my own pace.

TFs take so long that people try to race from mission to mission as quickly as possible, so there's not much time for a slow reader like me to know everything that's going on. And now I learn that only the team leaders get the whole text in the first place. I do my own story arcs all the time, even though I do most of the missions several times with other people, because I like to know the whole story (the way you guys are able to spin such great stories around people just going from one box to another to shoot stuff is fantastic, especially how you reveal things in little bits over time). And it's possible for me to go do these missions solo if I really want to soak things in, but I tend to love teaming most of the time. And soloing TFs is by definition impossible.

The worst for me was when I finally got around to doing the Hess/Burkholder TF. I'd heard people say for weeks that it's the best one. I was glad to be able to auto-exemp down for it. But it turned out that half of the people on my team were alts and had done it many times before. They had the whole strategies memorized so well that well before the time most of us had even set foot in the doors, the missions would be over already, like 1 minute from getting the missions in the first place. They only wanted us inside during 2 of the missions, and in the last one, they wanted us all to just stand by the door. I saw some neat robots, and part of a really big one (I would have seen even less of it if I had totally listened to them), but I have no idea what I supposedly "did". I guess I could track down a guide on the net. But I think maybe I'll try doing it again, being the leader the next time.

There are fewer strong verbs and irregular verbs in modern English than there were in Old English. Slowly over time the number of irregular verbs is decreasing. The force of analogy tends to reduce the number of irregular verbs over time. This fact explains why irregular verbs tend to be the most commonly used ones, verbs that are more rarely heard are more likely to switch to being regular. For instance, a verb like ablate was once irregular but today ablated is the standard usage. Today irregular and standard forms often coexist, a sign that the irregular form may be on the wane. For instance, seeing spelled instead of spelt or strived instead of strove is common.

  16. For those wondering where the game is in or not:

I live in St Louis, MO. Smack dab in the middle of the country.

I went to Best Buy today for printer ink, and was pleasantly surprised to see lots of Pre-Order boxes of COV on the shelves.

However, It's not the helmet I like the best, so I passed on buying it at Best Buy.

I didn't come out empty handed, though. In addition to boring printer ink, I walked out with Sin City and a funky yellow plastic Homer Simpson face shaped box containing Season 6 disks.

Then I went to the EB Games that's 1.5 miles from my house, according to the Mapquest feature on EB's web site, and the guy in the store looked on the computer and said 11/9/05. I told him that that is the game, and not the Pre-Order, and he said that he then understood what I was talking about (not sure if really did undertand), but he said they don't have it in and he doesn't know when they will. I just looked at the EB Games web site, and the Pre-Order page says it ships 11/9/05, so something's wrong there. [EDIT: I just looked at the page again and it says it ships the week of 8/15/05, aka this week]

Anyway, all this for a box with a code that isn't even usable yet, and a box containing special access to a helmet I'm not even sure if I know what I'm looking at in the picture.

It seems that the Crab Spider Battle Helmet's picture is a profile shot with the face turned to the left. Am I right?

If so, it looks the coolest, plus I think Captain Mako looks like the coolest villain anyway.

[EDIT: I found a better picture of helmet similar to the Blood Widows helmet on Gamespot here

and one similar to the Wolf Spider Helmet here

Also, does anyone know if the helmet is something we pick in character creation that is a perma feature of our toons, or is it something we can put on and take off at will?
