I have had that problem as well. Quite a few times I was unable to merge gaming groups due to a player or two 'hating' a particular game system. The end result is me in too many games now
-
It strikes me as funny when people glorify or bash a particular game system.
I happen to be running and playing in both pathfinder and 4E at the moment.
(yes, 4 games a week....I am struggling to fit it into my schedule to say the least)
There are things I prefer about each system, but amazingly, I enjoy both.
Preference is fine, but to label either 'bad' seems strange to me. -

Quote:He would agree, but still prefers Scrappers, and probably would not play a villain.Does he realize he can play a Brute in going Rogue, blueside, and have Super Strength.
He likes Scrappers; due to playing one before, and the 'consistant' damage they do.
1) He sounds like he'll get bored anyway.
Yes, eventually. Or burned out from grinding.
2) Explain to him that the Hulk is a Brute. -
I prefer to beat a dead horse than be silent and meekly accept whatever is handed out to me. Release all powersets from captivity now!
But mainly I brought this up for one reason:
The game is six years old, and needs to compete with DCU online (and maaaaybe Champions)
Having as many choices for powersets as possible is good to get people to play the game/make another alt.
I have a friend who played coh for about a year, came back for a month or two in a later year, then quit. I told him I was excited to see the Pretorian/going rogue new stuff, and believe it or not:
He actually asked me "Do Scrappers have Super Strength yet? Thats the only thing that would get me to play again"
Now, he was laughing as he said it, so I am not 100 percent sure if he would come back, but I swear he said it. Out of the blue.
He played a martial arts regen scrapper way back, up to about level 40 and got bored of street sweeping (he prefered to solo)
When he returned later he had a fire blaster and duoed with my fire tank. We had a blast in dark astoria toasting undead, and did a lot of bank missions, but he lost interest again and left.
It may only be one person, but he really did say he wanted to play a scrapper that feels strong (He is a hulk fan, that might be a factor) -
Time for Scrappers to get Super Strength.
My opinions:
Only one reason not to immediately port SS over to Scrappers is the potential that it would be overpowered.
Doesn't matter.
Why?
I really don't think a signifigant percentage of the players would notice or care is SS Scrappers were strong.
Has anyone run the numbers to compare what a SS scrapper would be like for damage compared to energy melle? -

I am a little out of practice in making a good build, but I can offer my advice.
You want Aim (or whatever the rad equivilent is) to go with buildup. I would use build up aim irradiate haze to obliterate everything around you. Cosmic burst is great damage and reliable stun; hard to beat that. Hasten would be great for getting powers like irradiate and cosmic burst to fire off more quickly. I would want total focus; not sure bonesmasher is needed. I would want stamina, but you could possibly rely on conserve power. I usually do not want both. Attack chains? Well, the quick blast, eyebeam, and cosmic should be just fine, and I would want hasten to speed it up. For aoe, I would use irradiate and explosive blast at high level, but at low level I think you must use haze with irradiate.
(I hate cones but sometimes you have to use them)
Just my two cents. -
Dark Regen is the best self heal power in the game by far. Healing flames is much weaker. Healing flames has a minor perk of not needing a mob nearby. However, in 99.9 percent of situations, Dark regen is literally ten times better than healing flames. The test server notes today say healing flames will have a faster cast time, and that's a desperately needed fix for healing flames.

Evil Ryu is correct, the tiny and annoying cones encourage herding. The developers dont want herding so changing the melle cones to be 180 degrees up front, but have a severe limit to how many targets you can hit might be better. Im biased because I find the melle cones annoying, and illogical. Id love to see a change there. Almost anything would be better.

I thought the developers stated PVP would not cause nerfing in PVE?

I see a kinetic-sonic as a solid and fun character to play, that may become uber once fulcrium shift is good to go. Of course, Fulcrum shift IS uber, really, all the mobs damage debuffed to oblivion and all the heroe's damage capped? nice.
Trivia: Fulcrum shift was nerfed early on. I believe the first version buffed and debuffed accuracy and defence to the floor/cieling..ON TOP of what it now does with damage! Fulcrum shift is uber now, but was MadcrazyUber in its early days. If my memory is correct. -
It was my idea! (with all due respect for anyone else who also though it up, im sure some people did)
I now declare Statesman the coolest, smartest gamedeveloper EVER! and he knows more Mythology than I do! He is like....a God! (I am so happy!) -
On the low base defence of wet ice: I really do sypathize with the developers about how hard it can be to balance the powers. What drives me nuts is when a change to a power just seems so madly crazy wrong it defies all logic. well, my logic anyway. one problem we have here is that peole have different ideas about what makes sense. I will fight to my dying breath that invuln should have no defence, and that fire tanks should be the resist tank. But I also know everyone will not agree even though that makes perfect logical sense to me.
Remember that the developers will naturally cling to most of theier early ideas, even if those are flat out wrong/less than ideal. (not an attempt to bash the devs, most people including me are just like that, its reality)
