  1. I'll join. I posted elsewhere already but:

    Arc ID: 348461
    Heroic
Length: Rated Very Long but it is only 3 missions, 2 medium maps and a 1 is a one room defeat all so it plays more like a Medium.
Very Soloable: Should be soloable by any build who can solo standard missions, no EB, AV, Heros.
Enemy Groups: mainly a custom group called Rogue Santas

Outbreak virus infects Santas of Makey's threatening the Holiday Sale season (and some customers). Very much tongue in cheek.
  2. Excellent Arc. I particularly liked the boss costume. LOL It never ceases to amaze me the creativity of some people with the costume designer.

Nice to see someone else who doesn't feel obligated to fill missions with AVs too. My 29 Dominator soloed the arc at +2 with no problems unless I let myself get outnumbered badly or lost control which is just as it should be.
  3. Obviously a humorous mission you are called to help the somewhat annoying CEO of Makey's department stores when there is an Outbreak virus outbreak at a Santa Training camp.

With humor I realize it is hit or miss with people. No f*rt jokes etc but not exactly high brow either. Just a bit of general sillyness.

Always fun to hear comments (if they are polite anyway) wanted to push this one a bit since it isn't of much use after the holidays and I will probably pull it for the space especially if no one actually plays it LOL.

    Thanks.
  4. Nice mission sorry to say still some spelling grammar. Whatever in first intro is one word not two.

In third intro I think it is it says "with what think" not sure what you were going for but I think it is "with what THEY think" or something like that. Hard to read as is.

Story are seems solid otherwise. Nice job.
  5. I have one problem with the analysis. It doesn't respect the way people play events.

Sure on the second week there were too many events happening at once but on the first day it wouldn't have been possible to get everyone who wanted to do the event in even if it happened in every zone at once. Limiting the number of events when everyone wants to get in on it just creates frustration.

I would say extending the time for the overall event was not a good idea as no one was doing the banner events the last week anyway. They actually became an exploit (ToTing in a zone under banner event gives experience, drops and badges but no risk of debt)

Personally I have a problem with the Zombie Appoc spawning all the time in that if you want to ToT there is often only 1 zone you can do it in and if it is overrun by zombies, you have to wait it out. This is particularly true on Red side where you USUALLY only have 1 zone you can hunt in.

I would prefer if these type of events were triggered by number of players on the server. The more players the more potential "events".
    ************************************************** *****************
ULTIMATE - If people could flag themselves as wanting to do the event so that the server know just how often it should be happening (if at all).
    ************************************************** *****************
that would be very cool in my opinion and raises some interesting possiblities like a multiple zone events where you need a team in three different zones for all or part of the battle using global channels to coordinate. Would reduce the load of people in a single zone/battle at least.

Overall though I would say the new Banner event is best new event in a while. Almost always challenging (which zombie and Rikti never managed) and no ninja clickie battles (it is that time of year again lol).

Here's something to keep in mind, though: You don't know those are the only animations that power set will come with. (q.v. Super Strength, Martial Arts.) They may well have more than one on the boil, and picked the flashier one to put into their HEY WOW LOOKIT THAT trailer. And even if they don't, the customization system presumably means they'll have the capacity to add them later on if people beef about it often enough.
I think the Captain sums it up best. Adding an animation where you just stand there and shoot certainly sounds like it would be fairly easy to add now or later.

It is an interesting point that you already have at least 1 animation of shooting 2 pistols at once. If they make 3 more, is there any reason they should be linked to specific powers? Why not let me pick which animation I want for which power or reuse the same one if I want? That would really blow the lid off Power Customization though LOL. Can't say I see who would be unhappy with it.

Something that's always really gotten up my nose in computer RPGs is the fight you absolutely have to lose. No matter how skilled you are, no matter how powerful or tough your character, you must fail to move the plot forward - and so the game cheats, or you win the fight but then lose in the subsequent cutscene, or some such. That little lazy-game-writer trick never fails to rile me up. Luckily, City of Heroes doesn't have many of them, though I can think of at least one off the top of my head. I forget what contact gives it, but I think it's part of a story arc vs. the Malta Group. One of the missions is a glowy hunt plus defeat so-and-so's posse in a huuuuge lab map... with some completely ridiculous time requirement. Five minutes? Ten? Short enough that, back in the day when inter-zone travel was much less trivial than it is now, I used to draw that mission and fail it before I reached the entrance.

I'm willing to accept that the OP mission and its ilk are just awkwardly designed, but that one just frosts my shorts every time I run across it.
Every once in a while I hear someone complain about that mission and I just don't get it. It is very easy to beat, solo or on a team. I don't think I've ever failed it in about 10-15 tries. I like how different it plays. It does require you to be in the right place and have either an AoE attack or means of immobilizing/aggroing multiple foes. If you go in Solo with nothing but single target melee attacks you are in for a rough fight. Probably still possible but you will need a vacation afterward.

You just go to the "goal" area and wipe out everything there. Then there are 2 passages to that point. Stand in front of in the on on the right and attack anything coming toward you. Be sure to attack ALL mobs in the group and maintain their aggro or they will forget about you and start running again. In between kills you can usually have time to range out and kill 1 spawn you can see and return before the next mad pumkin rush. Just keep repeating and wait them out. Rarely mobs will go down the left path but you can clear out mobs on that side in breaks to prevent this.
  8. Newspaper missions. Vigilantes will find lots of people to kill on newspaper missions.

Other than that they don't really belong in Rogue Isles. Sure there are plenty of targets but that is like paradropping behind enemy lines because it is target rich there. More isn't always better. A Vigilante in Rogue isles would have to keep a very low profile or appear to be a villain enough to quell suspicion. Some of the arcs like Hardcases really aren't evil well most of his missions anyway.

Remember that not all Vigilantes will approve of Heros either. Some will see ANYONE lording their power over others as a target (whether that makes sense or not). My toon Arbitrary Justice is like that. In Comics you have people like Foolkiller who don't play by everyone else's rules, but see themselves as a force for Justice.
  9. I have to agree that more frequent boss spawns are nice IF you can handle them. My level 10 Brute got brutalized by them. If a boss and Leut spawned I was basically dead even if I used every Enhancement in I had. If I got a boss alone and used all my enhancements I could survive but was left defenseless for the next one lol.

The new event is a nice change from the everyone meet here events and now that I have seen it actually work (now that people don't try to split up to take the banners). Although that is kind of a bad in that now it is like Rikti Raid/Zombie App except you run to a new location a few times. It would have beeen more interesting if you had to split up.

i.e. If there had to be so many losses of each type or if banners healed each other if not being attacked (interruptable heal that they can only cast on each other). But all told it is still fun.

What is really amazing is the company. When I saw the announcement "We looked at the feedback and we are going to change the game" they admit they are wrong and try and jump in and fix the event in the middle? This is one of the reasons I love this game.
  10. I like the idea of a signature power but multiple would seem unbalancing. Either they are useless or they make you too powerful. There isn't a lot of middle ground when adding MORE powers to player characters.

Now I wouldn't mind 1 signature power that you get to choose from a long list at any point in your career, but the longer you wait the more powers/better powers you have to choose from. That way you have the reward for patience or immediate benefit of having a unique character with extra help from the beginning.

With one power I would say allow it to be slotted without adding more slots to the game (heh heh) more hard choices are good and it helps with balancing since you will have to weaken another power to max out your new signature power.

Regardless I like any change that makes each character more unique and oppose any that lopsidedly powerful like say have a status protection power that is available for squishies. That is too powerful and will result in a greater lack of uniqueness since everyone will take the same power.
  11. I noticed that mob selection ToTing solo is very different from last year. This year you get bosses even solo where last year you didn't. Halloween mobs are not supposed to be based on difficulty level so it shouldn't be related to that.

From my experience you get a boss at least 3 times more often than you get 3 minion spawns. Probably worse than that as I got all the badges and in that time got 1 spawn of 3 zombies, never got a spawn of 3 witches (minions) and never got the 3 lemons (Streng). This makes getting non-minion badges MUCH easier and minion badge much harder.

At lower levels those bosses are killers though. They have holds, damage and HPs out of sync with players. Below 22 (SOs) healing is very slow and you do a lot less damage AND many won't have mez protection.

At higher levels all the bosses were actually fun and much more challenging (if you don't have mez protection especially). My 41 Warshade actually got killed once by a crone who came out of the gate swinging and killed me before I even figured out she was there. It also give you a use for all those worthless inspirations that drop, making breakfrees.

Never saw the event work myself. Every time I saw it even with a 4 teams they couldn't get even close to taking all the banners down (they got about 2 usually). If that is any indication no one will be finishing it once they get the system load down to a manageable level. lol
  12. Noticed the same problem with Halloween mobs. Doors spawn LOTS of bosses solo, where you didn't get them at all before. Status mobs are flat out death to low level players ToTing solo.

On the plus side getting Spirit etc badges is much easier as all minion spawns are crazy rare. Halloween mobs aren't supposed to be effected by difficulty settings at all so that should prove that the base settings have changed significantly.
  13. You miss the point. Have you ever soloed 200 Paragon Protector Bosses? (never mind had to deal with mobs with them), even with a team it takes a quite a while. I can solo 200 Protectors as a Hero in an evening solo, in about an hour or 2 with a team (via mission full of minions). And 5 hours PvP zone camping is 5 hours of my system churing away while I have to do something else - per zone.

I would imagine the process to change sides will be more interesting than either of those options.

Besides by chooseing your missions correctly you will likely start in a better position than if you don't. Lots of mission say Hero or Villain, avoiding them, when possible, will probably make the process of shedding points faster. Unless they put a fairly low ceiling on max Rogue points, in which case none of your actions really matter.

Again Low Ceiling = Easier to change sides so complainers/ADD players happier
Higher Ceiling = better play experience (if I'm really evil no one is going to trust I have changed sides as easily as someone who has only engaged in gang wars)

Interesting question about losing badges not meant for the other side. There is good reason for losing them after all. Whether they outweigh the reasons for keeping them is the question.

    Advantages of Keeping them:

    1) Makes badgers happy and adds some additional content for them (assuming that is a good thing)
    2) Everyone hates to lose some thing they worked for
    3) Badge counts would get screwed up if you lose some badges and don't get replacements which would really upset some people
    4) If Overall Heros, Villains or Neutrals could get more badges, all seriously insane badgers would feel obligated to play that line lol

    Disadvantages Of Keeping Badges:

    1) Badge counts would get really high for those who get all 3 sets and again serious badgers would feel forced to play all 3 lines. (not sure if this is a real problem or not but some will definitely complain long and loud)
    2) Simpler coding/recoding for devs, no worries about stacking Accolades and such.
    3) Preserves game imbalances. Much easier to get many Accolades as a Hero than as a Villain. This is a problem because again people would complain about having to become a hero to get Accolades easier (Atlas and Crey Accolades are especially easy for heros plus no 5 hour badges).

What it really comes down to are perceptions and what the majority of players would prefer. I know Disadvantage 3 annoys me red side (the 5 hour badges in Accolades stink and annoy PvPers and non-PvPers alike as far as I can tell). So I probably would switch to Blue to get Accolades then switch back because playing mostly solo farming Paragon Protector Bosses red side isn't fun, much easier fighting minions Blue side for example.

It will be interesting to see how this one shakes out plus the Influence/Infamy/Combined Markets issue. I don't see how they can do this without Combining markets which doesn't make much sense thematically, but the game comes before the story.
  15. Well I took door missions so I don't think it is outleveling. Guess it is just me so I will try resetting it back and forth and logging. I was wondering if I was missing something.
  16. Can't figure out why I change difficulty from say 0 to +2 and nothing happens. Still get White mobs. Did missions that I didn't have before changing difficulty and ones that aren't part of a arc to make absolutely sure.

War Walls only separate land zones not islands. PI and Sringa don't have them, nor do the Rogue Isles. The ocean serves the same purpose of obstructing traffic apparently.
  18. Carnies: Women sucking the life out of you. Am I still playing a game?
  19. This all sounds great except... does the new difficulty system allow you to select whether you want to AVs reduced to EB's like you get at level 1 difficulty? I have many solo characters who can solo easily at level 5 and possibly higher but the can't solo most AV's expectially at level 5, that just ain't happening.

I admit I am one of the people who don't thing Shivans/Missles should be required to complete normal missions solo and this would be one of the best improvements for me personally.

It will be interesting to see how they handle SGs. I can understand you get kicked from your Hero/Villain SG when you change sides but what if you had a solo SG? You kick yourself out for betraying your ideals?

That said will there be Neutral SGs that take characters of either side or possibly those who's good/evil ratio is in a certain range?

There are a few ways they can go with all this and no doubt many will be unhappy with anything they choose. MMO definition is "You can't make all the people happy all the time."

As far as open Beta goes there is a real risk to Open Beta's. Auto Assault sold almost no units because they had an open beta where everyone played pretty much as much as they ever wanted to. It probably still would have gone broke but it would have taken longer if more people had invested in it.
  21. Been here from the beginning too. Did the CoV Beta and remember some of the fun moments there like dieing and resing in Atlas only to be chased down and killed by GMs if you didn't suicide (they DIDN'T want the villains there).

I also remember how slow the servers were. You could have painted the screens with a brush faster. lol Hopefully they learned their lesson about that. That is the odd part. If they let most everyone into the Beta they will need a lot of servers to hold them. That is a lot of extra servers they won't need later.

    Rogue Theories

There are comic book characters who do follow the neutal or at least argueably path. Punisher, Deadpool and Vigilante are the most noteable. They aren't heros (unless you consider an assasin a hero) and they aren't true villains (they aren't looking to hurt innocentsor or steal).

There are a few straight Mercs in comics but they tend to not be very popular.

    IMO the difference is:

Hero - follows society's rules and had a strong moral structure
Villain - ignores society's rules and lacks moral structure
Merc/Neutral - follows his own rules (possibly very strict ones) or works around society's, lacks moral structure but may not realize it.

A moral structure is closely related to societal rules. We live in a society and people who make up their own rules to live by and ignore everyone else are not sane.

    Rogue Theories

More likely for the most part you will be given lists of missions some that say Hero and some Villain. You will gain rep depending upon which one you choose.

They have also talked about "choice" missions but I find it unlikely that every mission will allow you to choose between being a hero or villain. For one thing that severely limits what they can do in missions since you can't have, say, a bank robbery mission as there is no way to make yourself into a hero at the end of it based on some choice. I see choice as being more like "Recover children's innoculations from the Lost" and after you do it gives you a choice of returning them to the poor orphans (heroic) or selling them on the black market for cash (NOT inf, there is no reason to encourage villains over heros). There are lots of missions where villains make money which isn't part of the game, this should be no different.

The ideal solution on the PP/Epics would be to allow players to choose from whatever they are now. This would allow a whole new level of flexibility but would require coming up with epic sets for all the villain ATs. While that is more work it would remove some of the "epics are unbalanced" arguements.

I could live with it in broadcast but I get spammed to fill in multiple tells, while I am in a mission.
  25. A lot of 15 was just so you could GET 14 sooner. Shaking all the bugs and adding all the perks into AE took a lot longer than planned. To me that qualifies as making the issues smaller. You don't necessarily get everything you want in one issue, but you don't have to wait figuratively forever for it either.
