  1. So I have been trying to get this to proc on a new character I am leveling up. So far its been a no go -- Its currently slotted in Barrage.

And yet, there's nothing difficult to explain when it comes to how either works. They are just difficult to min/max around without complex math.

If you play this meta game for real, its actually easier to design a game difficult to min/max than it is to analyze a game made difficult to analyze. The advantage is with the system designer. But only if they actually play the game to win.

From a game design perspective, the problem isn't math. The problem is moves. CoH is designed for combat to resolve itself in a small number of moves (i.e. attacks). And that reduces the level of complexity of combat substantially. That puts the designers in a whole in terms of the maximum complexity horizon they can introduce. But its not impossible to still make a highly complex and unpredictable game within those limits.

Unfortunately, the main area we see this in CoH is in scaling stacking debuffs. A critter group that is a pushover at +0x2 suddenly becomes a nightmare at +0x6 when their debuffs start self-amplifying and the speed at which they can suddenly kill you rises exponentially.

    ** Closer to 24%, actually
Off Topic: So do you think big companies like Blizzard hire mathematicians then? Say for World of Warcraft? Or would you say that game is on the same complexity level of COH?

Look at the attacks and how good their DPA is:

    Energy Punch: 1.2
    Bone Smasher: 1.09
    Total Focus: 1.08
    Energy Transfer: 1.71

    These are some great numbers.

However, there is a design flaw with many melee sets: At minumum, every set should have at least a cone and a PBAoE. You can rebalance and compensate (nothing wrong with having two PBAoEs if you want the set to excel in AoE potential) but no set should only have a single PBAoE.

Only exception I would grant is Super Strength, and the reason is Rage boosts it's only AoE (Plus any Ancillary one) to more than compensate.
Isn't Energy Punch actually weaker in reality? Or am I interpreting Arcanatime incorrectly? Or do these numbers factor in Arcanatime?
  4. And what I mean by that is any "balanced" freeform system would simply be an AT system in disguise. IE, if a Scrapper chose range powers they lose defensive abilities to balance... Isn't that what a Blaster is?

I don't see how one could exist. If it was balanced, it would just be another AT system.

I remember Ultima Online it was a free form system yet also broken.

  7. 1) Can non Praetorians enter the Resistance areas? (Underground areas with the trainers)

    2) If they cannot, can Praetorians that finish and leave Praetoria as Loyalist enter? I know Resistance can.
  8. IMO they could simply buff the set by making it stunned targets receive extra damage from your attacks (Like containment) and in ITrials they always do more damage (Once again like containment) -- Just not a double damage.

No different then Shadow Maul and Flurry which stayed. And it couldn't have had a longer cast time then the Total Focus line of animations.

Lets solve this: Is it possible to still demo record this animation? If so, how many frames is it? That would tell us the cast time. Sadly, I have never demo recorded so not sure how to even find this power.
  10. Remember the old storm kick animation? If not check it out here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BvZFM6WGFI

Its actually a REALLY cool attack. However, I find it odd its NEVER reappeared again. To my knowledge, no NPC in the game even has it. In fact, I am not sure if its possible to do a demo record using the animation?

So was it deleted? Or was there some weird legal issue and it could never be reused? I wouldn't even mind seeing NPCs with it...

But man it would of been cool if the Fighting Tier 5 attack was the old Storm Kick animation.

No I was serious as a PPM of 1 min IMO wouldnt be intrusive but would be cool for us that want a visual effect.

Ok great I wanted to slot it into Energy Transfer and have it proc on a target. I am guessing in I24 it will be PPM?
  14. Wait does the effect center on you or the target? IE if you had it in punch.

    EP was changed? How?
  16. Yeah not digging code grabs. Impossible to do from an IPhone when at work.
  17. It was a week or two ago and I cannot find it. I had clicked the link in a forum post somewhere. Anyways, it was regarding Praetoria and all of the different dialogue outcomes. It even listed how to get all of the NPCs at the end to spawn when you go to Primal Earth.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?
  18. I wonder if that will be converted to PPM in Issue 24?

No I was about to say I am spamming punch against a pylon and not seeing it occur. Would City of Data have a listing for the proc rate?
  20. I gotta buy this now to check it out, can you convert an enhancer by chance?
  21. Can you configure the Twitter app on IPhone to notify you when COH posts? If so how?
  22. Ok thats AWESOME. What color is the graphic? The CCE is a dusty brown while Shivans is green? Do you need the full set to trigger that?
  23. I noticed they changed this. When did they increase the damage? It deals more then Energy Punch now? Did they change the animation time?
