On your first build - I'd take one of your BotZ out and use that slot with your Coercive Persuasion, to get that extra 5% ranged def.
You could get debuffed, and you'd want that extra bit, I'd think.
Your first build is also curious in that you choose hasten as an afterthought - the last power chosen. This suggests that you don't plan to exemplar - and yet, all the IOs you chose to set at level 31 - so that sort of conflicts with my way of thinking. Hasten may not be a must have for you, whereas for me, I tend to get it as soon as my endurance usage is manageable, generally in the late 20s.
Also, the kin combat acc/damage by itself in boxing seems to be a waste - may as well throw another hami-o in there- acc/damage - higher % and all that.
The Aegis you had in charged armor I took out -- you're not getting the most bang for your buck with that set, I don't think. So, I replaced it with a set of 4 reactive armors - saving you a slot, and slapping it into tough for another set of reactive armors, instead of the 3 Aegis you had in there.
I also made a few other changes to slightly boost your recharge.

Set a specific date and time. It's on the very edge of when I can or can't- but I can lose 10 minutes of sleep to help you out.
I am pretty sure that there are enough late night players (well, late for us) that are up - they key will be preventing them from doing something crazy like another kill most itf directly before the time you set.
Almost without exception, people doing other stuff directly before a scheduled event (usually because they forgot or didn't know about it) is what causes people to miss out on opportunities like this. I think we have to have 3 teams of 8 (though it would seem that three teams of 4 could do this) So, you just need to find 22 other players that have a hero - and remember, any level player can participate - it's just a whole lot easier and faster with an incarnated 50.
Your toon is a hero now, isn't he? Last time I teamed with you, I thought you were a villain. -
I don't need this badge - but if you need a capable player to help others get them, let me know.
(I'm sure Champion will have no problems, but on the off chance many of you are busy with something else, I will be on and will have no problems switching to help. ) -
So, my old fire/rad controller from the super-theme team from over a year ago has SJ instead of SS, and I wanted to respec him, and apply some of the lessons I've learned this past year about IO sets, their bonuses and the flexibility a couple of hami-o's can provide.
I'm going to ask this question:
If I have 49.4% ranged defense, and I have a choice - I can frankenslot - on a given power and reduce my ranged def to 46.27% with a trade off of having flashfire boosted for damage more than for a stun.
Also, my recharge is a bit low - only 65% without hasten. So, I am thinking about replacing my set of numinas (that's in the Radiant Aura) with a set of Panaceas.
What I'm after here is to learn if there's some sort of rule of thumb - sort of like the 2%resist =1%defense.
Is 5% recharge and 10% regen worth 3.13% ranged defense?
This is going to be a toon whose sole use is going to be incarnate trials, as the super team stopped teaming up a long time ago.
I'd suffer through the lack of SS, but when I play my earth/rad and notice how it can just stand there and spam AoE immobs and slows with nary a scratch while solo, it's a real contrast with my fire/rad who takes in a lot more because defense wasn't really an issue when teaming with 7 other fire/rads. (4 AMs going during the entire course of a mission makes things go dead pretty quick!)

It turns out I am going to run MoMoM trials until there's no more interest in getting those badges.
I'm reluctant to farm the nightmares because it's a darn cool trial. Tonights league was impressive, we did get a couple of the required badges for Mo, but missed the others.
One, of course, requires multiple runs.
Oh - the UGT on Fridays, and MoUGT on Sundays (both after the msr) are now going to be hosted by me in DA. There's a store, and it's not conflicting with msr, and I can see who brought their A game.
Tomorrow night, I'll be busy for most of the early evening, hope to come back and do some more casual runs. (will do another MoM for nightmare seekers if we have the people for it.)
Will try an MoKahn on Wednesday if there's any interest, as it's the weekly. (or will be)
Will also try an MoBarracuda on Thursday. (it is also the weekly, for red side)
Summary: MoKahn Wednesday 9pm Central, 5/16/12
MoBarracuda Thursday 10pm Central, 5/17/12 (found out I have to take my family out for dinner - funny how they get me to do that)
Further info:
Casual Friday, UGT, after the msr. Not badge focused - but if we have the league for it, may try it.
Sunday , MoUGT- 50+1 or higher, please. If you have no clarion, please consider bringing tier 3 breakfrees, called Escapes.
Both of the UGTs will be in Dark Astoria. -
What's the strangest excuse you've ever been told for someone going afk or quitting a team/league on tf or trial?
The silliest?
The most excusable?
The most inexcusable?
Discuss, debate. -
Quote:Make that 7. I'm not a numbers guy as a rule. I look at a toon sort of the way I look at the economy (in real life). Am I having an easier time? or a harder time? That you think Staff's aoe could be called comparable to axe and mace, let alone worse, leads me to believe that you either don't know what you're talking about or are intentionally obfuscating in this silly crusade for buffs. Fortunately, the devs can probably tell that the anti-staff echo chamber is primarily composed of about six people.
I've never played a stalker before. The toon I chose was staff/elec armor.
So far, I'm not impressed in the least. It is very survivable, but that's attributed more to elec. armor than the primary.
It has two good ST attacks, and the rest are just there to fill in the gaps until they recharge. The AoEs are so meh, they're not worth taking without the special buffs - and to be honest, I'd rather have the damage.
I don't care for "chance to X". Just give me X. If you can't give me X fine. I love the lotg 7.5%. It's not a "chance for 7.5% global recharge" it IS a 7.5% global recharge.
At level 25, when I use an attack, and the powerset system circles another one for me to use, I'm ok with that. But, when I go through the cycle again, and it's not recharged, (using an ATO set), this tells me that the attack chain has to be grown into. Great.
A lot of my problem with the set stems from the fact that I've almost always sought out AoE powersets over ST Damage. I have a fondness for killing more stuff faster. ST Damage is fine, great -- but if I have to have an activation time that takes away from high dps, then the STs only benefit is the fact that I don't have to hit the target three times.
It's certainly a different playstyle, one I don't care for very much.
Now, I do have to be honest - I have a level 50 build for it, but getting there is excruciatingly slow playing solo. (compared to a fire blaster, or a fire tank, or even a spines AT with it's lovely quills. )
So, for me, I'm not a fan overall. The sound effects are certainly the best in game for a powerset. So very much better than the whiffing sounds of Street Justice (until you get that lovely thwack at combo level 3)
The animations are credible, unlike some of the drunken cowboy antics of dual pistols.
So, it's progress, and I hope my opinion changes as I get in the thirties and can start slotting it out, gaining some more IO bonuses.
For now, though, it's just not anything to get excited about. Certainly not worth the points I spent. -
You may be right. I've seen an MM's pets on a bomb, and they don't seem to have any trouble killing a bomb in 5 seconds, let alone 10.
Thanks for your input. -
Quote:This is just my opinion. It's all about what's going to be fun for you. A different mood will probably want a different toon. I suggest you roll all three. Fire/fire blast is just that - a blast.I'm rather new to the game and I've mostly played melee characters and Masterminds.
I wanted to play a ranged character and had a nice background idea for a Fire based character, so I made a Fire/Fire Blaster.
I like the primary powers, but I find that many of the secondary powers are melee PBAoE which I don't like so much on a ranged character. I also don't like the lack of any survivability.
My character is currently level 20, but I'm thinking of deleting it and making a Corruptor or Dominator instead. I read about the Domination effect being quite useful once you have some recharge/haste so it's up most of the time.
Any advice?
Cheers,
RW
If you're uncomfortable with melee, you're not going to be too thrilled with a dominator, either.
I would suggest, based on what you've said, a fire/* corruptor. If you like to go fast, make a fire/kin. If you expect to team a good bit, make a fire/rad, or a fire/kin.
Rads are generally great for debuffs, so very useful in the end game. But, most think speed boost should be mainlined intravenously, and fulcrum shift is just a marvel to have.
I would also urge you to play the blaster for a while longer. Imagine having those same attacks as a scrapper? Only you're a blaster? If you have the inclination, you can make the blaster soft-capped with good recharge - and that soft-cap defense makes a tremendous amount of difference.
Try fire/* blaster. I made a fire/Mental Manipulation blaster and this toon has surpassed all expectations. This might be the one blaster I have that may be able to solo an AV - but I might have to be choosy about which AV.
You might also try an ice/* blaster. They have a nifty hold at level 8 that just changes the game, and bitter ice blast is just so ..so, fast! 1 second animation time! And you almost don't need hasten. Just depends.
Heck, try them all! -
Now that I think about it, I'd like to get an MoTPN on a couple of my toons. But, they are still drinking milk and not quite ready.
-
I moved a toon here and didn't regret it a bit. Things may seem quiet at first, but then you'll realize that you might want to find out what the global channels are. Once you get a couple of those to monitor while you play, you should be just fine.
Champions United - this channel is open, just /chanjoin Champions United
There are a few others, but if you look through this server section, you'll see several options.
There are a lot of channels to choose from. My first choice was the one that seemed to have the most people online while I was playing. -
I am wondering if - any of you UGT trial leaders ever came across - (or didn't, as the case may be), a bomb that was not there.
In the first phase of the bomb run - I had point - according to my map - no one had entered the tunnel ( I can't say for sure about pets - but I didn't see any return from further in the tunnel, though, I suppose it's possible it got blown up.)
The second bomb wasn't there. I checked my combat log, and I didn't see anything like "Demolition Bomb has defeated Demonling" or any mention of it at all.
I am thinking that I must have had a shy MM too timid to admit that a pet or two got away from them and got themselves blown up. I mean, the simplest solution is probably the right one.
But, since several other trusted players say they didn't see anything enter the tunnel, and the second bomb wasn't there - I'm wondering if anyone else has come across this before. -

Because I really enjoy the MoM trial, that may be the way to go. It can be run with 8 (the av's scale down with league size) and caps to 16.
Being level shifted on this iTrial is not mandatory, but definitely encouraged.
Be advised that there is one badge that requires multiple runs. In the first phase, it is required that the league beat 3 "nightmares", which are basically GMs. The badge requires the defeat of all 16 of them.
http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Dreamwalker_Badge
Use the link to see the list. Obviously, this would require at least 6 runs. Some players have given up completing the trial, and choose to just "farm" the first part. One thing about the lists I see, I don't see Apex on them, and that's good. Dodging/moving out of colored patches is practically mandatory in multiple phases.
Myself, I am not going to be hosting any farms for this effort. It's one of the better trials as far as the league coordinating together instead of the typical dull "Tank and Spank". However, I am always going to want a kin and an emp on a badge effort. I have both and will be willing to switch as needed.
I am also willing to add MoM to a regularly scheduled event like UGT. Perhaps immediately after it, I am not sure - league size caps at 16, not 24 like UGT.
Maybe Saturday Night, or Sunday before an MSR. Maybe I'll just host more of them.
For now, Monday 9pm central is for MoM. -
Not sure if you can see it that well, but they do keep the boosts through the conversion. -
Because I like to run my mouth more than I should, I'm gonna chime in here.
When I first came back to the game after a lengthy hiatus, my first order of business was to get a lot of the badges - and there was an itf advertised as "speed itf".
At that time, I had no idea what that really meant, so I asked -I was told it was mission objectives only. Well, as my SOd out blaster lay in the dirt, and noone came to rez my poor ice blaster, I was convinced that I was missing something. So, I hit the forums, learned about IOs, and how we're better off now than we were before ED (overall).
Hello? Combat Attributes? Numbers? They're letting us see this? This explained so much that before I was so clueless about. And, I'm still learning more everyday, and I've been back over 2 years now.
(That's why I have a toon called Obtuse)
So, I would suggest that before anyone knocks it, they should try it. Don't try it unprepared, mind you. Try it with your toon as good as it can be. Blaze past petty minions that weren't going to give you a shard in the first place, and knock an EB around like he's graffiti.
I have to be in the mood to run these; some days I'd rather clear the whole map, or just confuse them into killing each other, or stand in the midst of them and taunt and let the rest of the team pick them off.
But, when you're in the mood for a speed run, there's really nothing better than seeing a time that's easily 1/4 of the average run, and to be fair, probably half as much time as most folks do a speed run.
A lot of you may not care for this tactic, and suggest that it makes people lazy for traditional teaming. It's possible. But, if it's fun, is it really wrong? -
Ok - we had a lot of interest for MoKahn (blue side, not to be confused with 'cuda.)
We did two runs and a lot of folks got their shineys without getting a shiner.
Thanks for coming out. Because it's the weekend, aside from the ugt, there's nothing on my agenda until Monday - at least as far as MoTFs and and MoTrials - except for the normal MoUGT on Sunday.
So - what do you all want next? -
Drat! That's the trouble with the printed word, people hold you accountable.
I ought to re-read my own posts. Since I said MoKahn first, that's what I have to go with. Thanks for pointing it out.
Will try MoTPN at a later date.
Voltz would love your help on MoKahn cuz I know you've done them a hundred times in 20 minutes or less. -
Thursday Night 9pm Central MoTPN Dark Astoria
Please bring your level shifted toons for this effort. I have a feeling that we will have a pretty good turnout, so if we need to do another run to let the others that don't make it, I'll be repeating these the following week.
PLease disregard this post! I'd already mentioned doing MoKahn. I'm old, I forget stuff all the time. Will try MoTPN another time.
My apologies! -
I think the fun comes in feeling powerful enough to ignore the petty minions and lts.
For me, it's just getting the stupid thing over with. It's by far one of the worst tfs just because of the hoops you have to jump through to get to the zone. First you have to unlock it, which is annoying for the 50th time, and then you have to either join an ouro arc that will send you to a contact there, use a mission tp if you have a mission to go there, or go to founders, croatoa or steel to get there via midnighters club.
When it takes just as long to get there as it does to finish the tf, you know something's amiss.
Devs - give us a beacon for Cimerora already! -
Liberty continues to meet my expectations - which are high.
Three Lambda runs and Mo on the finale.
Wednesday Night 9pm Central, I hope to help you all avoid the green stuff. This badge has problematic for many of you. I am clear on how to get it, and what needs to be done - however, the execution of that strategy will be far more easily said than done. It's not hard for one - but for 24, it will be very hard for the entire league to move out of the way.
Animation and activation times are longer than we think sometimes, and sometimes, we mash a button twice( and it executes the first time, but when we try to move, it begins to execute a second time) leaving us stuck for a moment too long.
Avoiding those pitfalls can not be macro'd away. The player simply has to pay attention and not lose focus.
However, there are reasons why this has eluded so many for so long.
1. The trial is repetitious until the last part. It's a different tempo than at the reactors.
2. Some people are not clear when those time freezes are. According to Wiki, they are at 80%, 50% and 20%. So, depending on how much damage/debuff the league has, we will stop attacking at 85, 55 and 25% and keep an eye on the timer for the oblit beam. This way - if the beam hits while he's at 85% (and the league has avoided the beam because time was not frozen)then after it hits, we spank him, he freezes time, and we're safely out of the way while he does his thing.
Incandescence does work - if someone is fast enough to assemble the league while someone is still "floating", but the beam hasn't hit, the badge effort is not compromised.
See you all tomorrow. Pack greens and Destiny:Rebirth or Incandescence.
Keyes : Avoids the green stuff.
We'll tackle the others at another time, as we'll either nail it the first try and do a ugt to celebrate, or do another run or two to try for it.
9pm central/10pm eastern in DA. Wednesday, 5/9/2112 -
Just a caveat for those who aren't aware.
MoLambda is annoying in the sense that it requires at least three different runs to get it.
Antacid Badge Get 10 Molecular Acids and no Pacification Grenades in the Sabotage Phase, but don't use them. Note that if you get even one Pacification Grenade then you will not get this badge. If anyone uses their Molecular Acid, you would also be ineligible for the badge.
Well-Stocked Badge Get no Molecular Acids and 10 Pacification Grenades in the Sabotage Phase, but don't use them. Note that if you get even one Molecular Acid then you will not get this badge. If anyone uses their Pacification Grenade, you would also be ineligible for the badge.Lambda Looter Badge Get 10 Molecular Acids and 10 Pacification Grenades in the proper Phase, but don't use them.
This last one will only be attempted if anyone actually needs it. Odds are very good that many of you have gotten this one by accident. And, you might get it by accident during the Lambda Looter run.
Synchronized Badge Destroy a Weapons Cache and an Containment Chamber within 2 seconds of each other during the Lambda Sector Incarnate Trial. -
No, I'm not speaking of theatrical props.
Tonight, on Liberty, I used some of the techniques I learned from @amygdala with I would say, good success.
That thread is here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...=289094&page=2
I just wanted to let you folks I appreciate your tolerating me while I was learning how you folks here do things. Will see some of you this weekend for more iTrial action. -
A fine job, Libery.
MoBAF on one run.
We almost got MoUGT again, but since I already had it, I'm not quite clear on what we may have missed - and we may have gotten it, there were some conflicting reports. We didn't snipe the bombs in the clustered hallway, but used Champion's @amygdala's technique of using 80 yard ranged attacks and I am the one who messed up his targets, and we just missed it by a second - or we may have gotten it. Again, reports were conflicting - one thing is certain, noone got blown up by it, so it may have been an Mo. Either way, it was a league effort from start to finish, so thanks to Champion and @amygdala for letting me join them to see a new way to do things.
Kudos also to @Dr. Photon and @frankx who reminded me of the fourth "ear" sidepath bomb - somehow I passed that up.
Tomorrow, I will endeavor to get an MoLambda - but it will depend on who brings what. It will likely take a couple of different runs.
So, Tuesday night, 9pm Central, 10pm Eastern in DA. Please bring +1 at least.
