I think hating i-Trials is nonsense propaganda made up on the forums, much like the theory presented that there is a "game before 50." It just doesn't seem reasonable to me.

Quote:Pretty much anything is possible. I threw a build together for a /Time Mastermind that softcapped all positions, but it was pretty expensive. That wasn't all due to the defense, it was also due to wanting perma Chrono Shift and layered resistance and defense. Don't forget that things like pool toggles and the Steadfast unique are helping to bring up all of your defenses though. After that, it's just a matter of reaching your goals with a smart build plan and using your slots wisely.EDIT: Another thought occurred to me: If you go for the hybrid model, then would it be possible to go with multiple 32.5% defenses? I mean, if you can pull it off, you could get a toon that has precisely softcapped Melee AND range defense? This defeats the whole purpose of preserving powers, though, since it would require just as many resources than if you were going to soft-cap a single defense.

Quote:You know, I have been thinking. While respeccing my troller build... again (spent 100mil on a respec recipe. Ow my wallet!)... something I noticed is that I am sacrificing a whole lot just to get my defenses up. This is the same with all of my recent re-done builds, which is why I suspect that I only get into the 30's and say "close enough".
I don't think I've seen this mentioned before, but I think what should be included is a tertiary goal of having a defense of 32.5%. Small purples inspirations are very cheap and very easy to get a hold of, so it is safe to assume that you can get a near limitless amount of them (though finite inside of the missions). A small purple can raise you from 32.5% to 45%, meaning that you can soft cap when the situation commands it, but also can have several other effective powers to aid in your combat if you need to.
This "hybrid model" is something that I shot for with my /ElA stalker. I didn't have the resources to go full soft-cap on him, but he performs just fine without losing some of his many other tricks.
Many of my builds settle for 32.5% to something but for me it's not a budget issue, more of an "I need room for recharge, etc. too" sort of thing. Basically building up something like ranged defense is very cheap, use full Thunderstrike sets in your ranged attacks, full Mako's Bite sets in your melee attacks, full Gaussian's sets in Aim or Tactics, and the new Defender/Troller ATO sets offer ranged defense bonuses for 6 slots also I believe. Just get a calculator out if you can't use Mids, add up the bonuses, and then go to your combat attributes in game and add up the defense you're already getting from Combat Jumping, Weave, Maneuvers, and any defensive toggles you might have in your primary/secondary such as Arctic Fog.
Another common defense goal to build to the softcap is smashing and lethal. This is equally easy but often more expensive. If you play a support class character, you have the option of Scorpion Shield, which I personally never take because I prefer to build my defense through pool toggles and set bonuses and use an epic shield that will give me resistance for layered survivability. Once again for s/l defense you'll want Weave, Maneuvers, and Combat Jumping/Hover. The good thing about Weave on a support class character is that it also gives you access to Boxing and Kick. Those two plus Brawl provide you with three places to mule Kinetic Combat sets which combined with toggles will do a lot to bridge the gap between no defense and reaching the softcap.
Kin Combats are a bit more expensive than things like Thunderstrikes which are so cheap they might as well be free, but you have the option of saving Villain merits to get the Kinetic Combat pieces you need, and if you're just using them as set mules you can skip the tri and use the chance to KD proc in order to save yourself some cash. Another useful way to add on to your s/l defense is 2 slotting Rectified Reticles in Tactics, Aim, and anything else that will accept the set.
Edit: And don't forget about Steadfast: 3% defense. This isn't that expensive especially compared to its counterpart, the Gladiator's Armor 3% defense, but again you can use Villain Merits to pick it up if your funds are limited. This can be placed in Tough, and any other resistance power you might have. It's useful for any defense goal. -
I would say if you play on a big enough server there is really no point in doing DA arcs aside from the badges and curiosity, the latter was my reason for doing them on my Blaster. On Freedom if you did trials for an hour or two a day you would have all your level shifts in less than a week.
-
I think Time should be on that list. I only have one Mastermind, a mid 40's Bots/Time, and he's pretty tough just on generic IO's. I haven't played him in about a month because I just don't really like babysitting pets, but Time is an awesome set. The heal is great, and the debuffs and buffs are very solid. I actually threw together a petless Demon Whip/Time/Knockout Blow build recently that softcapped every position, had perma Chrono Shift, and good resistance to boot.
-
Don't forget the -res from FOTG will stack with the -res from t4 reactive. I would say with almost absolute certainty that utilizing procs in your ST chain (which OD contributes to) is a much better build strategy than chasing down such minute amounts of recharge to fill in gaps that are completely unnoticeable in a ST chain. As for the accuracy of Eclipse, a few people have gotten by that I know of without bothering to slot it for accuracy. The reason why I always do is that while against a big mob if it misses a couple of targets it's no big deal, when you only have say a few bosses left in a spawn to work with you'll want to be as certain as you can that you'll hit all three of them.
I had to adjust to looking at Mire as not only a +dmg buff but also an AOE attack after making the transition to human form only play. Human form has to sacrifice AOE compared to tri form, and while in my opinion the benefits are worth it (better control=more team contribution, higher survivability, better ST damage) it still feels necessary to get the best AOE that I can out of my Warshade. Mire is a decent attack and imo should be slotted as such, so I like your tactics idea. Detonation is nice because like I mentioned, it's an extra AOE, but I decided with my last respec that I'd rather play to my strengths by picking up Provoke and increasing my usefulness in team situations as it would overall be more efficient than risking AOE scatter when there's nothing to immob/-kb everything on my behalf. -
I've been plotting a couple of new alts to make this double XP weekend and one of the candidates I came up with was a Kat/Dark Scrapper. I threw a build together for it that softcaps all positions w/ t4 Agility and Divine Avalanche. It's not too ridiculous price tag wise, but it's up there. Anyways, maybe you can get some ideas.

Quote:Two updates in one day? You know it
Introducing the SG Costume schemes; One scheme for Warshades, and one for Peacebringers:
Now, these costumes are NOT mandatory, nor do they have to be identical in costume pieces. The main part is the colors; Gold and Crimson outlining and White and Black underlay for Peacebringers, Dark Blue and Black with White underlay for Warshades. I would also like to suggest an "alien-techno-gladiator" feel to the costume as well. What does that mean? A mix of medieval and technology costume pieces, is what. Again, not mandatory, but the main idea is the colors; they need to stay the same for it to be considered an "SG costume."
Why would I make TWO SG costumes? Glad you asked; because Gold and Crimson looks silly on a Warshade and Dark Blue and Black looks rather unpleasant on a Peacebringer (in my opinion, of course.)
Anyways, take them for what they're worth. This isn't an uptight guild; relax, enjoy your time spent with alien-kinsmen/women, and play the game the way you want to play it
What helmet is that on the Warshade costume? -
Updated the OP. I hate losing names too, but at least you had an equally cool backup name.
-
Quote:Was just putting the math to it for anyone who wants to try a build (Turn out it isn't as hard as I thought. I saw your ITF so knew you had soloed AV's with insps.
Did you do any with no temps/no insps at any point?
No I have yet to do anything like that, I've been spending most of my in game time on my Blaster recently (still trying to get all his Incarnate stuff) but I'm sure I'll get back to doing things on my Warshade again soon. I never used temps on my shade, but I'm sure at least a lvl 51 would go down easy enough without inspirations. I used lore pets for my solo ITF a while back so I didn't bother making a spectacle out of it, hah. -
Quote:Under absolutely ideal circumstances, the only thing with higher potential survivability is a tricked out stone/dm tank (excepting psi damage). I have never seen the absolutely ideal scenario in game, however, and in practice you will likely vary around top end scrappers and tanks.
The overall point I was making is that Warshades are so survivable that using Nova form and the outrange tactic against an AV is not only detrimental to damage output but completely unnecessary in the first place. I can see the appeal of nova form for the AOE, but without toggle suppression and faster animations I don't think it's even worth using it. -
Quote:I am almost certain that I am using a wrong formula here, but a level 50 AV should have 28271 hp (From Paragon Wiki) and regen at 5% every 15 seconds (From Paragon Wiki also) which equates to 94.24 hp/sec regen.
Therefore any attack chain putting out more than this can solo an AV assuming you can A: survive, and B: have enough endurance.
A human form using a gapless Grav Well > Shadow Blast > Essence Drain > Shadow Blast chain with a well slotted Orbiting Death, and assuming Sunless Mire hits will put out ~160dps (Based on my build in another thread that is linked below) so damage is not the issue.
The issue is survivability, a lot of which is based from Eclipse, and endurance.
I think that using a combination of the last build posted by TwoHeadedBoy (Which is very survivable) and the build I posted in this thread (For the damage) it would be quite possible assuming you pick the right AV. Something like Chimera would be a good start iirc, all s/l damage.
I haven't really got the inf to spend respeccing just for this so it isn't going to be me doing it, but anyone who want to should be able to do it, even using the no temps, no insps rule the scrappers do.
You realize that I've already soloed AV's up to 53 in level, right? -
1.) My attack chain is fine as is. Any scrutiny being attempted of it at this point is silly and clearly unnecessary.
2.) I'm not dropping Stygian Return. Sh'happens.
3.) Clarion gives KB protection.
4.) By slotting E Drain for heal you are losing DPS. I used to use 2 touch of the nictus+Kin Combat and found that my AV times were noticeably better with pure damage slotting.
5.) You are so worried about a milisecond of recharge that doesn't even matter that you are missing out on a toxic damage proc in Shadow Blast.
6.) You don't have a -res proc in Orbiting Death. Your ST damage won't be as good.
7.) It's better in my experience to put Ragnarok in Unchain for the better recharge values (Detonation recharges so fast that Posi Blast is fine in it.) Also you're going to see the energy damage proc go off much more often in a power with a quick recharge like Detonation. I personally can't stand the scatter so I removed it from my build.
8.) Eclipse can miss, and you failed to slot it for accuracy.
Overall, it's a fine build. Just pointing out why I wouldn't personally ever use it. You're fine Princess, but if New Dawn wanted to leave this thread (and if I could have it my way, every thread on the board) I wouldn't complain at all.
Edit: I do like all the positional defense that you were able to work in to your build Princess, I've tried to build positionally before but I was never happy with the sacrifices I had to make to get any worthwhile results. Not slotting Mire for damage isn't something I could recommend to anyone, especially on a human form build that could use all the AOE output that it can get. I suppose Dark Detonation is a bit of a band aid in that department... How fast are you generally able to work through a 54x8 spawn on that build? -
Quote:Except that's just not true, hah. Both of the builds posted in this thread have the recharge for a high end single target attack chain. Just because every single ST power doesn't recharge by the time it finishes casting doesn't mean that the build doesn't have the recharge to always have the next attack in the chain up by the time the previous attack finishes casting. Once again, the chain used is Gravity Well>Shadow Blast>Essence Drain>Shadow Blast.
By spammable powers I just meant that without using Grav Snare you would have had times where you had no powers to use (Or at least no attack powers).
Quote:I know Grav Snare is a control power, but I would have still slotted it as an attack if I was having to use it often. Though personally I think I would have just slotted up the first attack instead. Thats style though - not a criticism. -
-
Quote:Heya, this wasn't a critique thread just so you know but that's alright.I am back home now and having another look at this, I swapped the 2nd slot in Absorbtion into Stamina, you get the same set bonus, plus a slight bonus to recovery from having Stamina better slotted.
Quote:I also would take the Numina: Heal out of Health, I cannot see the limited regen doing anything for you.
Quote:I had a look at your attacks, and I cannot see what you use for an attack chain because you only have 2 really spammable powers, and one is Gravimetric Snare - which isn't slotted for damage.
Quote:I am not trying to pick holes in your playstyle here (No mez prot kills human form for me)- just improving what parts of the build I can see can be changed without impacting anything.
Anyways, all that said, I did do another respec the day i22 launched thus going back on my "final build" promise, hah. I'm sure most of the people here saw that coming anyways since I can't help a good respec.
The original plan was to just pull my Nucleos in Eclipse out since they were rendered useless with the launching of this issue, but I ended up reverting to a variation of one of my old builds in the process. I figured I would want to be within the softcap of s/l/e/n defense with a small purple again for soloing Dark Astoria content (which I still haven't gotten around to) and I missed Provoke.
I'm not totally happy with this build and I'm sure I'll be making quite a few changes next time I feel like it's time to respec my Warshade, but as of right now this is what I'm running on live, except the hamio's are 53's and there's a catalyzed form empowerment IO one slotted in Bolt so with res toggles it actually essentially caps s/l/e/n resists with just 2 Eclipse targets.

I'm sure there's a few spreadsheets laying around somewhere, but I don't think anything in the game can mirror the survivability potential of Umbral Aura aside from Dark Armor. The capped resists to everything, plus how unfairly good Stygian Circle is, plus the layered mitigation from Umbral Blast, plus all the defense that can be fit into a Warshade build makes it essentially unrivaled. The only weakness in the set is a lack of status protection and debuff resistance. The former can be covered with break frees and clarion, the latter can be covered with Ageless. No other set can reach 85% resistance to all damage, softcapped to at least 2 types and/or positions, and the ability to completely refill their health and endurance bars every ~6 seconds.
-
You realize that Warshades have one of the highest potentials for individual survivability in the game, right? Playing at range is counter intuitive on a Warshade because all of the things that make them powerful require playing in melee. A nova form will not be able to effectively down an AV without some extreme outside help. I think it's alright that you have me on ignore but it'd be better if you just stopped saying things that were unreasonable so I'd have no need to correct you every time you post something.
-
Quote:That's why you build for defense and use Eclipse. Trying to range an AV down in Nova form is silly because you lose access to not only Sunless Mire but also a high enough DPS attack chain to get the job done in the first place. I guess if you use lore pets you can do anything you want but that doesn't really count as an accomplishment imo.The thing with this is with some AVs by being close enough to use Emanation you could be subjecting yourself to their better attack chain thus losing survivability. In order to gain greater survivability you might have to rely on Nova Bolt. I also had particular AVs in mind as I do not expect Novas to go about demolishing every AV. In fact one in particular I predict the Nova to do, I do not fancy Human forms chances against. We shall see.
-
I don't remember the exact time, I just know it was ridiculous because I took such a long break. The only mission that took a really long time was the last one. I used my t4 Cimerorans at the end of the last and second to last missions, they didn't have trouble staying alive. I brought Barrier for the second to last but had to bring Clarion for the last one because of Rommy's rez mez. I couldn't keep fluffies alive at all for the last mission which is probably why it took so long, but my lore pets held up alright as far as I remember.
-
Okay, it looks like we are full, but just in case some people aren't able to make it I'd like to have some more on the reserves list. If you'd like to join feel free to post or otherwise let me know, there could very well end up being a spot for you.
-
Yeah what Microcosm said, using Nova for ST isn't a very good idea. Either Well>Blast>Drain>Blast or Well>Eye>Blast>Eye are good ST chains to use, I've used both but I prefer the Essence Drain one. A good amount of defense is nice to build for so that you can focus on attacking your target rather than killing adds for Stygian Circle. Either set your mission to x8 so you're surrounded by buff food, pulling the AV from group to group (or pulling groups to you with Provoke) or clear adds for a while until you summon fluffies and then go for the AV once you have three. Having Barrier is very helpful for the second tactic in order to give your fluffies some extra survivability. I'm not sure if I'd recommend it or not because I haven't tried it yet, but using Burnout to increase your fluffy production might make it go faster. The downside to that would be the detriment to your endurance which could make your ST chain unsustainable.
-
Nice.
When I did this a couple of months ago I ended up taking a break for a day before doing the last mission so my time was worse than yours. I used Lore pets too at the end and I died a couple of times so I didn't bother posting about it at the time.
-
I would love to join but that would involve my Warshade being something other than a Villain. I can't support do-goodery.
