little bit of a late entry, hope it still counts
I was on my most recent main which is a cold defender(before i quit anyway). we were running an ITF and it was a complete pug but it looked like a solid team. we go through the first few missions with some problems but nothing to get up in arms about but then we get to the last mission. we TP ahead to rommie and clear the platform, pretty standard. but then the stone tank, who doesn't have granite dies almost instantly every time we engage. he's buffed, dies, he hits magus then after a minute, he dies, and the rest of the team follows suite very closely there after. So the tank says "Hold on guys, lemme go respec real quick and pick up granite" so the rest of the team is waiting in mission for this guy to respec, they didn't ever want to clear because they thought we'd die without the tank. So about 2 minutes into wait I just said screw it and pulled mobs to the team since they were being stuborn. we took care of them no problem and actually took out abunch of mobs. the kicker is that when the tank finally finishes respecing he comes back and is pissed that we didn't wait for him to clear out these mobs and rage quits. So we decide to try rommie one more time and see how we do before just giving up. I jump in and start tanking and he goes down once, then twice, then the third time. IT was a thing of beauty but after his third death we saw the ambush coming at us, they were just standing on the platform and we had rommie on the grass so i guess just unlucky aggro for whatever reason. So we see these guys coming and we can tell they're up to no good and they come in and start making trouble. We got in this one little fight and our mom got scared and said "You're moving with your auntie and uncle in Bel-air". I whistled for a cab and when it came near the license plate said "fresh" and had a dice in the mirror. If anything I could say that this cab was rare but I thought nah, forget it, yo homes to Bel-air! I pulled up to a house about seven or eight and I yelled to the cabby "Yo, homes smell you later!". Looked at my kingdom I was finally there, to sit on my throne as the prince of Bel-air. -
Quote:i'd hope for a little more. maybe bringing some of the human form animations times down to make a human form attack chain a little more fluid( I swear ever attack on my WS has a 2 sec animation time). along with a change to cosmic balance to give you something thats static. maybe some changes to the shields to defense based.I think most Khelds would agree that would be a super awesome QOL feature. And I believe the general consensus to buff PBs would be to lower the recharge on Photon Seekers.
I'd be totally in favour of both of those.
i'd also like to see extracted essence changed so that its either invuln like PA or isn't targetable. I find it strange that when your DPS relies that heavily on a pet that has that stipulation to actually get the thing out, to allow it to die is rather lame. -
When they fix pvp
So never. -

Quote:right, so they decided what they wanted with the team based ladder at the end in mind.
No, the team leads/mentors generally decided what to go with and people worked with that. Some were a little more lax, but when players saw that certain choices worked better, they gravitated toward those choices.
Quote:Right now, the builds are even worse. Outside of KB IOs and maybe a few other bits, very few have any sort of build at this point. Of course, we just finished up L15 matches a couple weekends ago and the L35 matches are upcoming Sunday, so there's not much reason to invest.
my point wasn't that theres no point in investing the money, my point was that because you're doing it the way the bootcamp does it, which albeit is probably the best way to go about introducing/educating people into pvp, doesn't give you an accurate reading on the actual diversity of high end pvp or it's ability to diversify. because there is very very little. there is in this built camp because it was designed to be that way.
Quote:Speaking of builds, what's wrong with my bargain build, outside of it not being loaded down with purps and PVPs? I'd expect an 8-figure build to outperform it by some margin, but this seems like a pretty decent first step. I'm not peddling a top-of-the-line build here or even holding it out as such, but I'd like to know what I should change to make it better, hopefully around the same budget.
OP: the beer is flat hot and skunky. if you really really want to start drinking it now, more power to you, but don't expect it taste good. -

Quote:A pvp bootcamp isn't a good frame of reference. i'm not too familiar with how they go about things but I was under the impression that the participants pick their toons specifically for this thing with a team based ladder built in towards the end. you're also using fairly unimpressive builds (for instance, that psi/em build you've posted in like 3 threads has quite a few problems in it even for a cheap build) that alone can change the outcome of how a toon performs.Seen quite a bit more than just those two in the PVP bootcamp, so likely some additional variety headed into the game. No Scrappers, let alone any Regens, on any teams (kind of surprising), but there are a bunch of Psi/EMs. Emps are big, of course, as are Corruptors. Doms are much more popular than expected (and impressive), with good damage and mez. Stalkers are present and doing well (*/WP, usually). That's just what we have on those teams.
I imagine people have a range of impressive MMs for Zone & Arena. Earth/TA & Mind/TA seem like great disruption options for Controllers, or they could switch up to */Therm or */Emp for buffing/healing. Tauntbot Tankers seem like another good disruption option. I don't see Brutes making an impressive PVP debut anytime soon, but they're great at farming, so that's a tradeoff.
if the bootcamp actually accomplishes the goal (which i assume is to educate the people about pvp in order to foster more of it) then when those people take those toons into zones, they'll be met with a rude awakening of zone play, which the majority of the time is regen scraps, psi/ems and stalkers.
building an arena team or rather a toon for an arena team is different than building a toon for zone
Quote:Anyway, it seems like there are a lot more options out there than Psi/EM Blasters and */Regen Scrappers. Psi/EM has the advantage of range (4 single-target attacks with 80 range + boost range) and that's a nice advantage to have in PVP, especially if you're in an Arena match with travel suppression turned off. */Regen Scrappers are very survivable ALL THE TIME. so it makes sense they'd be popular. Neither is the be-all end-all of PVP, though.
Psi/ems and regins are the be all end all because they are the two best builds that are consistantly good all the time. if you were to put together an 8v8 team of psi/ems and regins vs a well diversified team (assuming optimal builds for everone involved and similar player skill which albeit doesn't really matter anymore) the psi's and regins would roll everytime.
