To My Winners:
As you can see, Sunday came and went with no art. That's because I had received word I didn't get a job promotion I was really counting on, and have been in kind of a funk the last several days. The Art, she will not come to me in this disposition. So I beg your patience, I will get these pics complete once life stops hating me. Hopefully, that's sooner rather than later.

Yes, yes, let it all out...up is down, black is white...dogs and cats, living together.....

Bobby, so shiny!
Looks great!
Going to be a little strange not calling you "Lady J"; kinda like it still shocks me that Frost is not his avatar heh
[/ QUOTE ]
I have another shock to add to you list, Niv....
I'm not really a turkey.

Good to hear. =D
Oh, and TA? You don't have a choice. Yours is going to be silly no matter what.
TL -
Looks good so far!
I once thought about doing a comic based on my experiences in customer service for the trucking industy, but then realized it would be so angry and profanity-ridden it would make Garth Ennis blush...so I decided against it.

I need sun.
[/ QUOTE ]
Meh. Sun is overrated. We never get it here and Wisconsin and we do just fine.
What you need to do is put your kids to work rendering for you. Family business! They apparently have a lot of free time, and you're never too young to learn a trade!
That's why my one year old does all our laundry.

I feel your pain. I've been suffering from that for the last 6 months or so. The ideas kept coming, I just couldn't sit down and get them out on paper.
I tried forcing it, but it didn't produce anything good. So I took a break for a while. Focused on reading, went through my old comics, etc. I eventually started getting the itch again, and was able to get back into it.

A Warning to my Three Winners....
Preliminary sketches for your prizes are turning out a bit...silly. (I know, big surprise coming from me, right?)
Not full blown, Saturday Morning Cartoon silly, more of a "I am serious, and don't call me Shirley." kind of silly.
If you have an issue with that, let me know ASAP, so I can work on a new path.
Otherwise, I hope to have all three completed by Sunday night.

How many times do they have to tell you, that's a retirement home, not a porn studio!

I get a lot of requests from people wanting a Turkey Lurkey tattoo. I always say yes, BUT they can only get the tattoo if it is based on one particular representation of TL.
Somewhere out there, there are thousands of people with this tattooed on them.

That Captain America is terrible. Can anybody tell me why he got famous? Was he the only one applying for the jobs for many years? Did he sell his soul?
Although, I am only seeing his worst examples. Where are his best pieces?
[/ QUOTE ]
He did an issue of Uncanny X-Men (hiding in the Outback era)that wasn't terrible. X-Men in a bar playing poker. I believe it was a parody issue of the DC INVASION! event (which Todd Macfarlane was drawing).
Also, he did the issue of What If, What if Wolverine Was an Agent of Sheild, which surprised me it was him because it didn't really look like his art.....
Like NYC said, he started off okay, but once he gained a following and developed his "style", he started down the path of awfulness.

I say we all storm Rob Liefeld's mansion and beat him with pillowcases full of oranges until he looks like one of his drawings!
/e starts angry mob
TL -
[ QUOTE ]
On that note, can anyone tell me why Rob Liefield is so hated? Is it because of his inventive anatomy style? I'm not a big fan, but he does have a distinct style...
[/ QUOTE ]
I think that's a big thing about it, I think his ego is another, and the fact that he reportedly traced porn for his female characters is still another.
If you do a yahoo search for Rob Liefeld, one of the links will be for a site called Progressive Boink, which gives a rather lengthy and mildly amusing tirade on why he doesn't like Liefeld. I'd link to it, but it's full of profanity and I don't want to be modsmacked.

I would like to second the use of basic shapes and the Marvel How To Book.
The Marvel book really helps with basic anatomy proportions and positioning and is very easy to understand and follow, without speaking down to the reader. It was a big help for me when I started getting serious about drawing.
Try treating a drawing like sculpting with clay. start off with simple basic shapes and detail from there. When I start off a drawing, I lay out the positioning with ovals squares and so on, then I move on to defining those shapes. For example: When I draw a head, I start with a simple oval, then draw a horizontal center line (to help with facial placement). Using that line as a basis, I draw vertical lines for eye, nose and mouth placement. Then I start adding details. Sculpting a more defined image, if you will.
The best thing you can do is look at the kind of art you like. What about it do you like? Pick a picture by that artist and try to draw it (not trace, copy free hand). This will help get a grasp of their style of composition. Once you've done that for a little bit, see what you can incorporate into your own drawings. Pretty soon you will start to develop a style of you own, while still being influenced by those artists.
For example, If you look at some of my drawings, while I have my own distinct style, you can tell that said style is inspired by Alan Davis, Art Adams, and Joe Maduria. These are the artist that influenced me as I got more and more into drawing (Davis and Adams moreso than Joe Mad).
But above all, the best advice is: Practice, Practice, Practice.

The Big Know It All Book states that the 4 most frequently landed upon spots on the board are the 4 Railroads, with a 64% chance of landing on one during a pass of the board.
[/ QUOTE ]Trick. Did not word the question properly. That is the most frequently landed upon set, not the four most frequently landed upon spots.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm just going by how it was worded in the book, and it specifically said spaces. I guess it was the book being tricksy.

So can someone define a steampunk character for me?
Like is it just someone who uses the steampunk options for the creator or is it more then that?
[/ QUOTE ]
I've always seen it defined at Victorian era Sci-fi...robots, fantastic devices, etc, all pretty much bronze and powered by steam. Think the Clockwork and you're on the right track.
Not sure where the "punk" part comes in.
