I'd have gotten a screenshot of the "Exultant" badge, but COH's video crashed out for me... that's a first... -

Quote:Fixed in the original, my bad. I type faster than I can think. (I was also doing a B'Tran run in STO at the time I wrote that, so I was a smidge distracted.)I think I need a translation of this sentence. It doesn't make sense.
Quote:...but they are also not as rosy as you make them out to be either. The truth is likely that the master runs are in between and depend on several factors that neither of us have control over. -
Quote:The level of poor sportsmanship is rooted in the players, not the circumstance. Are you honestly trying to convince people here that, given a team of level-headed, happy-go-lucky players, a Master run will eventually turn them into the people you seem to eternally get stuck running Master runs with?It literally has gotten to the point that this friend in question is being called names and publicly at that because the person has been on so many attempts in the last few months. I'm not being silly about this. The level of poor sportsmanship that these badges bring out is just wrong for the game.
Yeah, you shouldn't play with jerks. On the flip side is that these badges are pretty much designed to bring out that kind of attitude.
Your experiences don't mesh with mine. Our Master runs have been rather lovely honestly. Sure, we fail. So what? We finish the job, think about where we goofed up, and try again the next week. If we win, WOOT!
If we can have a grand old time with each other, but your groups can't, then the fault isn't with the Master design, because it would be a universal (or near enough) issue. The fault would therefore lie with the people. That's why I'm inviting you to check it out elsewhere. And despite your little drama explosion (you know, where you went NEVAR in two inch letters), I wasn't suggesting that you transfer to get a badge; I suggested that you transfer to see a group of normal people work hard to get Master and still have a good time with it. That's what positive people do: Invite others to participate positively.
So, on a field of equals, I say bring on the Master runs. You're certainly not obligated to play them. Some of us just enjoy them, and win more often than not (...sometimes).
Not an elitist thing: Just honesty. Things are not as bad as you make them to be. -

Quote:Play on a server with a nicer, more emotionally stable population like Freedom.I was told by a mutual friend that one of my friends was so harassed on a public channel recently that they shut the game down and hid for a few days because of yet another failed Master of Statesman TF. Is this the behaviour that the developers want to promote?
These badges DO NOT promote community building. Fundamentally, if a badge breaks community in a Massively Multiplayer Game, then it is acting against the developers, not for them. The developers, in order to make money need to do everything they can to build communities in the game.Seriously, though: The Freedom Horde (an all-inclusive social gathering from various SGs) runs Master TFs regularly with essentially public signups. No ATs barred, don't give a hoot about your IOs, just that you know your powers and that you're on your game.
The behaviors you post as case-in-point for your experience don't mesh the proven experiences with the circles I'm involved with (and my involvement with them is quite loose). If you'd like to give us a whirl by transferring over, head to the Freedom board and watch for Horde signup posts for the various Master runs. We'll always welcome a new face. -

Quote:Ah, very nice. I was watching yesterday morning/afternoon, but in the evening, I kinda was focused on badging.Bumping because the 10.4 drivers have fixed my alt+tab issues; hope they do the same for you Turgenev.
Thanks for the tip, I'll try this and test it out tonight/tomorrow!

Quote:I accept yer challenge.
Now I am not taking anything away from yer number. 2.38 deaths per minute is a fine accomplishment an' ya do a debt run proud Smurph.
But don't ya be thinking that fer one pieloving minute the good ol' JFS is gonna let the likes of your out death us
Also Smurphalicous, I am curious as ta what yer team settings were on. I would like ta make this challenge as equal as possible.
This thread is now relevant to my interests. -
All patched up here, but I may have a late-submission time conflict (early wake-up tomorrow to accommodate wife for carpooling). If I'm not there because I have to sleep, please take DataBreaker as the appropriate alt.

Quote:Each of the AT boards has a Guides section (or the Guides forum will have something similar) where people will post their version of an "optimized" build for COH. However, your intro to the affair leaves you on the wayside, as you don't know what it's being optimized against.Which brings me to the problem that I don't understand what most people are talking about on the archetype boards. Has anyone got a link to a source that could help me understand how to optimize a character in this game?
I'd support the general opinion here in that you should roll a few toons to around 15-20 to get a feel for the various classes, so you understand what they can do, how they play, and where your likes/dislikes rest. Then go to the various AT boards and read their opinions, and compare them against your experiences.
There are some tips you can always follow. Be aware of Enhancement Dysfu... er, Diversification.Know how your build can use defense/resistances, either inherently or via power pools (auxiliary powers that everyone can choose from). Decide how you'd like to travel (fly, jump, superspeed, teleport), and how that meshes with your playstyle.
ParagonWiki has some good material for the game overall, and plenty of detailed points - but boning up on the jargon would help you a lot. I believe there's an "acronyms" page there that will help you sort out what people mean by AT, PBAoE, CoP, etc. The shorthand is where you'll probably get ferschmuttered, so that page will guide you nicely. Think of it as Berlitz for CoH.
Cheers, and welcome to the game, officially today six years strong. -
Beef, thanks to you and the BH/VM crew for making my badge hunting loads easier. Cheers!
-
I'd be glad to lead a team, if people don't mind my antics. I prefer strong, well adjusted teammates that agree with my badging philosophy of "no matter how, no matter what, we get this *(&#$ done".

You asked for it. Dr. Turgenev (Illusion/Storm Controller).
-
*squeezes himself in with Gun Father*
My evening just opened up... I'm a last choice obviously, but wanted to make it known at least!
-
Grats, Leo. You work ridiculously hard to beta their work, and it's nice to see it pay off for you.
Not twice, tho. For that, you svck. Srsly, you shoulda put that badge on a villain so you could block out the red badge market as well. lol, nub. -
Ugh. Will be very late for this tomorrow night, I have a med appt at 7pm and don't expect to be released 'til they get the tapeworm out.
...what? (Srsly, I'll be pretty late.) -
Throw me down for this. Here are your choices for this evening:
Ultravonyx: Sonic/Sonic Corruptor
Bloodseethe: Arachnos Widow
I'd prefer Bloodseethe, but am open to either.See you there.

*swats forehead* Oh crap, totally forgot about this.
My bad, Slash. If you still want help on the next run, I'll set a calendar reminder this time. No PVP capped toons to offer, but plenty of bodies to rotate.

Woot, we won.
Yay, us!
