  3. Excellent guide as always Scrap! I'm curious though, what did I say to inspire this? Was it my comments on Ice Melee last night? O.o

I've been thinking today about doing something simular with Permafrost and Temperature Protection from the Ice and Fire sets respectively. Issue 9 seems to be bringing us some interesting times.

  7. Ha, I drifted away a long time ago. I wish I could do more then run in circles going, 'Cool' or 'Awesome stuff.' It's starting to ound hollow and repetative even though I always mean it. I have a great respect and love for every artist here. You all do such amazing jobs and make me feel a little inferior and small. All I have is my writing. I did try to do a sketch today... it uh... reminded me of why I focused on word crafting.

Anywho, I think I should stop using the Forum tanker inherint of 'Derail Thread'.

  8. Wow, that is really cool (Memo to self; hit a thesaurus to find more ways to describe all the awesome work in this forum). I love the look on Belle's face. Kinda of a mix of surprise and resignation.

  16. I was invited to a STF last night, and these are some of the thoughts I had;

Ghost Widow The best method for getting past Widow is to have a single -Def- based tank in melee, everyone else out at ranged. FF and Empaths, or anyone with +Defence buffs are exceedingly useful here. This lets the Tank be the only one she can possably feed off with her heal. The high defence makes it very hard for her to hit however. Ice and Stone in Granite are the best here for their high natural levels of defence. The only real concern is her 'Terror' effects.

Black Scorpion and Scirroco These two are in essence just standard dog-piles. Everyone goes in and hits them as quick and hard as they can. Scorpion is the easiest of the four AVs. Scirroco just has some nasty effects.

Mako For Mako, you want to treat his fight like a PvP encounter. Two Defenders with Tactics is exceedingly desirable for breaking through Mako's Elude. -Defense debuffs are far less important than +To-Hit it would seem. Once Mako activates his Elude everone wants to use 3-4 yellows (tier 1). It becomes a race of doing enough damage to bring Mako down before you run out of +To-Hit and +Acc. If an Elude Loop starts, don't try to stand there for an hour or more beating on Mako, it is a futile gesture. Instead let him run back to his spot and have the team go collect Yellows and perhaps even Nukes if you're really irked. One person will need to stay in the mission so it doesn't reset.

    >.>
    <.<

And if you're interested, the team I was on was unable to get past Mako. Our scrapper had 'To Go' at the start of the Vine mission. Then both tanks were Ice Melee, the single worst secondary for this kind of work. None of the defenders or the controller had Leadership. We did manage to defeat Scorpion and Ghost Widow though. But then we whacked Mako onna noggin for 1+ hrs. Team disbanded as we needed sleep. =+_+=

  17. Sort of.

Depends on my mood. I can enjoy some nice zone fighting, but often get annoyed at the broadcast conversations and how unsporting a lot of players can be.

  18. The STF is great and perfect. I have given it a doublt thumbs up, twice, so it must be so.

Seriously though, if you are having dificulties, it is a matter of co-ordination and player tactics/compatability. I've been on teams with stone tanks and buffing/debuffing, but we couldn't get past mako. I've also been on teams where I am the only tank (Ice/Ice) and we run over the whole TF. This is the best designed TF in the intire game, in my opinion. It has consistantly been fun, even when pounding on Mako for an hour in an Elude loop.

If at first you don't suceed, try try again.

When we sat down to design CoH, we wrote on the white board: "fun." Seems obvious, but many games seemed to miss the mark. That's OK; some games don't need to be fun in order to be successful (I won't name them, but they're out there). We wanted to make a game that had fun moment to moment gameplay. Hard to quantify, but easy to identify when you find it.

    Cool posts, BTW.

Fun! CoH is just plain happy go fun time! And, in my opinion at least, i9 is adding even more fun and incentive. Now, if we could talk about the whole Set Bonuses being axed when exemping... That's gotta change, m'kay?

  20. Nice guide. Only point of contention is the Blue Tower. It is his defence buffs I do believe. Afterall, what AV needs endurance buffs?

It's even harder than that for a Regen. My I9 guide is giving me a headache.

    [/ QUOTE ]

As a rule - a literal rule - I don't write power set guides. But I've been scribbling notes on a guide to invention options for super reflexes. I'm not sure if I'm going to release it whole or in part yet, primarily because I'm not sure I can fit it into the forums. If I say it could theoretically be longer than the longest thing I've ever contemplated posting, that might help illustrate the scale of the thing.

The biggest problem: unlike DA, Invuln, and Regen, the most important synergistic invention options come from *outside* the defensive set, which means taking into account non-SR related build issues, like power pools and primary sets. And that, frankly, sucks in more ways than one.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I hope that doesn't mean that SR is really up the creek with no paddle. I'm kinda hoping that you'll be able to find a way to salvage SR in zone PvP. If anyone can, it's you. I've tried, but every time all I see is a lot of nothing. Well, more like stuff that is okay, but the other guys getting the better toys that completely counter my defences.

Help us Obi Arcana-Kenobi, you're our only hope!

  22. Star Wars is number 32. *snicker*

    =. .=

And yeah, I see that all the expansions are individually rated. Still seems kinda cheap to me. We should be number 4 gosh darn it!

    =^ ^=
  23. Pfff, I like how they counted Warcrack twice using it's expansion. *eye-roll* I wish the games industry would stop having a media love fest over that piece of highly polished *Insert negative adjective here*.

CoH is made of super powered awesome! If it wasn't I know I wouldn't be here. I get bored and wander off easily. >.> Not even Oblivion held my interest for more then a week.

Cryptic's done an excellent job with CoX, and with i9 things are getting even better.

  24. This has got to be one of the best ideas I've ever seen for this game. Gosh, this just sounds like so much fun and coolness!

I give you the highly coveted Double Otter Thumbs Up!

    Buffs win over Debuffs

    [/ QUOTE ]

This I emphatically agree with. I'm seeing quite a few people say things like 'bring lots of rad' and I don't agree. Certianly rad will make it easier, but I've done it successfully with no debuffs except a kin (so -regen/-dmg/-spd). Major debuffing sets are not necessary, and that's a good thing. Serious buffage helps much more in surviving the last mish.

Also - I like the whole 'tower gimmick' as someone called it. It requires forethought, planning and coordination - as opposed to a bloody stupid high level multi-AV stacked-vengence, shivanFTW zergfest that is the RSF.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Buffs, debuffs, both are good. As for which is better, depends on how the team leans. Personally I prefer a mixture. An Emp or Two for Fort, a Rad for AM and the debuffs, A Dark for the wide assortment of debuffs, Kin is a buffer/debuffer, FF and Sonic are both alright but I prefer Sonic as the FF can lead to Tower Resurection if the team isn't co-ordinated. 4 or 5 of these in any combination and you should be able to do the STF.

As for the Towers, I'm in total agreement. People who complain that the towers were Revived should have been more careful with the Techs. Techs MUST DI... er... Be ARRESTED! No if ands or buts. No fancy gimmics, just good ol' fashioned kicking the Tech the moment his little grey conning name appears. If a Tower is revived it is a sign of a serious flaw in your teams tactics.
