Quote:This is what I'm experiencing as well.Yeah, count me as confused as hell about the analogy too, but what Canine said above rings true here:
Some increase in Ping.
Way less Dropped/Lost In Packets.
Less Consignment House Shernanigans.
Outcome: Smoother play experience all around, both in missions and out of them.
Add to that that I can now use the market without having to 'claim' the same item 3 times. And that almost all the lag in Lag Hill on the ITF is fixed and I couldn't be happier with the new servers. -

Quote:I get logged out automaticly if I stay off the forums for 24 hours. If I log in every day I can stay in principle logged in forever.I don't think it's that, or just that.
Until yesterday, I'd been logged into the boards for about two weeks (which is the longest it's stayed in for a long while), I had to log in again yesterday and fingers crossed, I've stayed logged in since then.
If it was just a short session timeout value, I'd have been logged out long before then.
The problem is that it seems random. Some people stay logged in long term, others constantly have to log back in. Even the same person (talking purely from personal experience here) can have periods where they stay logged in and then suddenly end up being constantly logged out.
Unless of course, I run into the completely random log outs, usually occurring when I hit the 'submit reply' button or when I try to refresh a page ...
The game server works great now though! A higher ping, but I gladly trade that for less lost packets and the resulting lag spikes, smoother gameplay on large teams and best of all a useable market that doesn't frustrate me because it bloody refuses to give me my bought items! -
Quote:Well, that's plenty to get started. You will turn a profit. But it's up to you. Just get A-merits from tip missions in that case.Well, I won't be doing that, either. I think the richest of my toons has something like 89 million.
Quote:I really am starting to think that farming is the only way to actually get ahead in this game, because just playing it the regular way isn't getting my characters anywhere near these uber levels people speak of. Of all of my toons, only one has a full set of IOs. Not purples, just IOs. Everyone else above 32 has some generic IOs and maybe two or three partial IO sets with a lot of SOs slotted in there.
I still have all the inf I'll ever need. Among my 4 most played 50s (got 8 in total) I got 2.5 billion of unused inf atm. My play time is divided 50/50 between those 4 favourite 50's doing TF/SFs and leveling all the rest of my toons.
As far as IO slotting goes I'm probably a bit strange. I build my characters for concept first, ie I pick powersets and powers that I think are fun and fit my concept over pure performance. Hardly any of my characters have hasten for example. Then I try to make the character as powerfull as I can with IO slotting. I don't use purples though. They're simply not worth the cost for the return imo. Though apparently everyone else disagrees with me.I don't bother with IO's till I hit lvl 47. Since I hardly ever exemp down, unless to get badges, I just slot lvl 50 IOs. All my 50's are slotted this way. Builds varying from 200-800 million in costs.
Even though I won't be soloing any AVs or clearing +4x8 maps with these builds any time soon (though my dark/dark corr could probably do the latter one, but it would take forever and my SS/invul brute could too depending on enemy type.), I got various Mo badges on several characters so I don't think I'm doing to bad. -

Quote:Yep. 50 reward merits + 20 million inf = 1 alignment merit = 5 random rare recipes. You mean in addition to trading them like Feycat advises you also have to pay a fee? And a hefty one at that? My level 39 Scrapper (dinged yesterday) only has a touch over 8 million now.
It's still a way better deal than doing random rolls 1 at a time for 20 merits. -
Quote:Very much this. But oh wait, he came back!!11
If he'd stayed dead, THAT would've been a huge shock.
As it stands it's just another in a long line of comic book Soap Opera deaths, as genuine and lasting as any other promotional 'event' in a character's never-ending career.
I really don't see the point in all the hero deaths and whatnot if nothing is permanent. Either they come miraculusly back to life, usually in very cheap way, or the series gets a reboot. Or both at once! Lame. -
Quote:Having little mistakes like this go uncorrected potentially causes bugs.Seriously, does it matter what badge is given with what name attached? I mean, playng through the arcs, the images match correctly to each TF. Like BT said, the Battle Maiden spear image goes with the TF that Battle Maiden is in. The Neuron and Portal go with the Tin Mage TF.
It just seems people carry on over useless info and just either want to waste more time by having a dev rename or address something in the game files. (And yes, reading game files is still considered a no-no, especially when you're telling people in public "well, the game files say differently." "Permission" or not, you're not supposed to discuss the files within the game that you can access/read outside of the game.)
In other words: is it really all that important? Really? I don't see anyone making a stink over the ToT Costume badge names that they weren't renamed from the badges that they never even used in game.
Just sayin'. -
-
The difference is that all those arcs contain at least 1 kill all in a cargo ship map or something. That mission alone takes as long as a whole Praetorian arc (slight hyperbole).

Quote:No, I wasn't thinking you were lying at all. I just meant what I said, I don't understand *how* you manage not to get enough merits in a year for even a single random roll, even by accident you should have that many.I guess you guys think I'm lying or something, but I've never had good luck with drops in this game.
Quote:I never got a single costume recipe drop until *after* they changed the drop rate, so I missed out on all the nice 100 million Influence gains people had in the early days.
Quote:As for buying a rare IO recipe, I recall it cost something like 175 merits or thereabouts, maybe even more. It's been a while so I don't recall exactly, but it was definitely in the triple digits. When you get a couple merits at a time, it takes a while to build up enough in order to afford a roll like that.
It's even beter if you do tip missions and earn A-merits. You get 5 rare recipes for those. Even if you do only 1 tip mission per day, you can get an A merit in 11 days.
You can also convert 50 reward merits and 20 million inf in an A-merit. But I guess that's a big investment if you don't have that kind of money. You need a very, very unlucky roll to not at least make those 20 million back, after crafting, though.
I made over 500 million profit (so after the 20 million and crafting expenses) from 8 A-merits converted from reward merits. And that's without selling the 3 Lotg 7.5% I got as well. The other expensive ones I recall are: 2*Miracle unique, 3*Numina unique and 1*Kinetic combat triple. (I roll in the lvl 35-39 level range.)
Quote:I played my 38 Dual Blades/Willpower Scrapper solo for about 3 hours (on and off) last night. Early in the evening I decided to buy a full set of Analyze Weakness (Def DeBuff) just because I felt like it. At first I didn't think I'd be able to get the special "Chance for +ToHit" because there didn't seem to be any for sale at any level, so I checked the merit vendor and the cost was 220 merits. No way THAT was going to happen. Fortunately someone decided to sell one at level 34 or 36 or something, so I snatched it up for a million+. (I had 9 million on hand.) All you can do about that is place some bids and wait for them to be filled.
Quote:I did 5 tip missions, a FedEx, dropped a radio, did another radio, plus 3 or 4 regular missions from my contacts. Through all of that I got about 9 merits, what I consider a really good night, merit-wise. All told, I think I got about 11 SOs and 2 DOs. I got a few minor recipes. Jet Pack temp power, a Calibrated Accuracy, a Positron's Blast and a bunch of level 40 Common IOs (Defense Buff, Accuracy, Damage, Snare, etc.). -
Quote:Why do people keep saying things like this?Yeh looking forward to some challenges. I like the LGTF for the hami fight. Tough but do-able with teamwork. Last stage of STF I suppose but I dont like how that TF basically forces you to have a granite tanker.
I only did the STF 3 times (villainside player), all on PuGs or half-PuGs, and never had a granite tanker. Invul, willpower and fire. All completed without to much difficulty.
I can tank the LRSF on my invul brute, without much problems, and he isn't purpled or softcapped. (I built him for +life. Yes, for concept reasons. I don't have hasten for the same reason.)
All you need is a *team* of people who know how to play. They don't even need to have done the particular TF/SF before. -
Quote:-us is a Latin ending with the plural -i.The change is from "-us" to "-i". Since "Ouroboros" doesn't have an "-us", that change isn't applicable.
Other special rules, such as "Cyclops" to "Cyclopes" and "Nemesis" to "Nemeses" also don't apply, because it doesn't fit those patterns either.
I also say that is would be "Ouroboroses".
-os is a Greek ending with the plural -oi. -
Quote:I don't get this. At all.(Well, except merits. It took me more than a year to get enough merits to make a single roll for a rare recipe. I didn't get anything good but I sold it for 500,000, so that was okay, I guess. Not much of an incentive to keep joining GM teams and earn those 2 merits at a time, of course, so I figure that stuff is just pointless to do, but I tried it.)
You can earn 25 merits (1 random roll? or is it 20?) in a matter of hours, if not less, from doing solo story arcs. Even if you can only play 30 mins a day it should be doable in a week.
Also, in my experience playing solo doesn't earn you that many fewer drops than on a team. The drop rate per enemy is the same, and the drops get randomly devided over teammembers. So, more enemies, more drops, but also more people to divide the drops over. I'm tempted to say you'll actually get more drops while solo, even on +0x0. If you raise the number of enemies you'll definitely get more drops solo. -
Quote:that's what, 30-50 million per Incarnate salvage piece then? I'd have my whole stable of 50s outfitted in minutes.I'd be okay with some sort of trade-in scheme, where you have to exchange multiple regular salvage for a piece of Incarnate salvage, even if it's something onerous like 25 rare salvage pieces for one random Incarnate salvage piece.
Providing that such a system wouldn't put rare salvage prices through the roof. -
Quote:This is an important point.7: Having the servers with the US ones gives us a bit more security in terms of the continued operation of the EU servers, either seperate, or with a server list merge. Cost cutting measures shutting down a data centre's operations are probably more likely than culling a few servers in one main data centre.
If anyone still had any fears that the EU servers time was limited, this, at the least, should put those fears to rest.
Nobody invests in new server hardware if they're planning on closing the servers down in the forseeable future. -
Quote:1. Roll A-merits.Yeah, I understand. I've got about 1250 merits sitting in the bank waiting for something to do and I was hoping I would just be able to bang out the Alpha Slot stuff with them. Guess they'll just continue to sit there.
2. craft resulting recipes
3. hundreds of millions profit. -
Quote:There is more to NCSoft than just CoH you know. From the consumer perspective 6 hours is a long time to wait in the middle of the day, but it should also mean the servers are back up for EU prime time so its compromise.
IT really does seem a little weird to me that they're bringing back NCSoft EU and then moving everything away from them. Sure they might be marketing but with the amount of marketing we see for CoH anywhere this just means its one less thing for them to do while they play hopscotch in the playground... -
Quote:6 hours to get a new set of servers completely tested and online is not long at all.Is it just me who thinks 6 hours is far too long! infact its a bloody ridiculous amount of time... and on my day off too.
Plus why bring back NCSOFT EU and then move servers are they all gunna be out of a job again or what.
I am sceptical too that our lag wont sky rocket, the reason I got EU version was cause its ....EU! Granted that was 5 years ago and things change but it cant be called EU and be in Ammy
The NCSoft EU people are marketing and located in the UK. These servers where in Germany and had nothing to do with the UK offices.
Honestly, who gives a crap about were the servers are physically. All that nationalistic stuff is as dumb as it is old. And as they said in the post the newer hardware and more stable pipeline is more than likely enough to balance out any ping related problems. -
Quote:I never got why people had problems with THAC0 eitherAlso I learned to blog by manually updating a page on my Geocities website, but I still welcome Wordpress and Livejournal and whatnot.
I see the question as more of whether it is too inconvenient. Not "can you figure it out" in the sense of ability, but more "do you want to bother figuring it out". While I know there will be accusations of "dumbing it down", I have to say I welcome further dumbing down, because it does make things easier for me as well.
I mean, I prefer the current system of D&D to, say, THAC0.
I'm not opposed to simplifying the whole enhancement system, but I'd rather the devs spend their resources and efforts elsewhere, because I really don't see the need for it. -
Quote:Of course it's simple inconsistency by the writers. That's what I hate about it. I really, really dislike sloppy writing, especially when it breaks the consistency of, and thus my immersion in, the world/story.We have to be careful, though. Which one is really "canon"? If we dislike the Origin of Power stuff, it's easy to use that as an excuse to dismiss it when it conflicts with other lore. But what's valid canon is assigned by fiat, not our preferences. The story devs might view Zenflower as the story anomaly, not what Brainstorm said.
Just because the NPC exists in contradiction to what another NPC said isn't clear proof that what the NPC said is supposed to be wrong. It's could be simple inconsistency by the writers/editors.
My point is really that we just don't know. Until someone comes along and gives us the skinny, we have to pick and choose based on our preferences.
Things that existed first are official canon. If you want to change the official canon, then go and actually change it, don't leave a trace of it. Don't shoehorn in some half-cocked lore that completely contradicts existing lore and leave it to sit side by side. That's just sloppy and unprofessional. -
Quote:...The inconsistencies predominently stem from the fact that the characters understandably don't know as much CoH lore as we the players do. It's only through word of god that we know Giovanna Scaldi is a mutant, offical histories probably records her as being a witch. And in all honesty, who really thought that we were suppose to take a mad scientists views on reality serious?
You sound like a comic book writer.
Sorry, but explenations like this aren't any better than the actual offensive content. -
Quote:Which makes all that 'origin of power' and 'power diversification' crap even worse. It's not even consistent with the game's own canon. They'd only be authorial decree if they were written as word of god narration, they're not. By saying it through one of the characters, they made it that character's opinion which can be wrong and some of it is contradicted by other canon.
Both Giovanna Scaldi (born at the end of the 17th century) and Sister Psyche (born July 13, 1920) prove that assertion wrong.
When Doctor Brainstorm tries to claim that heroes couldn't use certain powers, such as plant control, prior to his experiment one only has to point to Zenflower to prove him wrong. -

Quote:I'd love to see Power Pool Customisation and Ancilliary Pool Customisation aswell. But to be honest I'd rather they finished all 10 levels of the incarnate stuff first.Yeah, they keep saying pool customization is not a priotity since I16...
I20 will be next year and still not a priority.
But the forums are full of people asking for it, if that is not a priority what it is?
If they dont want to work on it because takes time and resources, at least fix hasten giving us a non FX animation, same as they did with the silly chest beating of integration from the regeneration secondary set for upcoming I19.
