Awesome looking pack. Even though I can't think of a use for it right now, I'll buy it anyway just to encourage you guys to maintain the same level of quality once you get to the Steampunk and Sci-fi packs.
Also, this letter is great. I love this kind of communication with the playerbase, and truly hope this will be kept a regular thing for years.
I was sad when things like 'ask a dev' and the lore thread all faded out after several weeks/months. -
The only problem I have with morality in Praetoria is the morality of the Praetors.
Praetoria and its leadership were portrayed as a dictatorial government that traded away peoples freedoms for their safety and well being in a time of war. They created a police state for the greator good. If all the questionable things they did actually were for the good of mankind then you could actually talk about grey morality and tough moral choices. That's not how they're shown in game though.
Instead we just get a group of deranged despots, psychopaths and selfabsorbed megalomaniacs who are only out for themselves. Cole seems to be the only who at least has the delusion of doing what is best for the people, but that gets completely negated by what he allows the Praetors to get away with. -
Backpack and scabbards are cool.
Tying them to a booster pack not so much. And I'm a proponent of the costume boosters.
Also: I want a jump jet costume piece that animates when using super jump! (like the rocket boots do whil flying. But with a tintable flame!) -
Quote:This aswell.6 Kahns in 3.5 hours. best time was 23 minutes
2 Cudas 3.15 hours. Best time 1h 30 minutes
Reichsman + 4 AVs easier than Reichsman + 12+ Ambushes of Melees, AoEs, Marksman, and Mezers.
Also on Cuda you have to pretty much clear the map to get all the patrons. Cuda needs to be worth more Merits. -
Quote:Yea, this is my one beef with the barracuda SF. Without a MM (or defender nowadays) you need A LOT of debuffs or insane dps to get Reichsy down. I've been on a PuG recently that simply couldn't kill Reichs while we had zero problems killing the other AVs or handling the massive ambushes. In 'cuda, you either have the right ATs to get all the temp powers, and you conquer it as though it's nothing more than a minor speed bump, or you don't have the AT mix designated by on high and you spend two hours beating on the guy only to realize you'll never win.
Other than that I find the 5th Column TFs to be quite fun. Never had any problems with Reichsy on the Kahn TF. -
Yea, I see that there's little point in discussion with you.

Quote:Yea, I know. Still just set bonuses. It actually does a bit more than that, since it also effectively reduces enemy damage, accuracy, and control durations as well.
Quote:Emphasis added, because it's important to remember that for solo/small team, team buffs may be in limited supply.
I notice the boost to my endurance usage (and range!) on my corruptor or recharge on my brute a lot harder than the level shift. -
Quote:The level shift is still just extra numbers. No, it's not. Two reasons.
First, Incarnate Enhancements are not considered, by the developers, as "optional". They've already stated that they will be balancing "Incarnate content" (whatever that means) to assume Incarnate Enhancements.
Second, Rare and Very Rare boosts aren't just bigger numbers - they provide a unique boost not available anywhere else. And what's more, that boost is a virtual "level".
I'm actually okay with not getting a purple Alpha Enhancement - the extra numbers I can live without. Locking the Rare, and the Level Shift, away from me is what I really object to.
And yes if you're going to participate in the incarnate content you're going to need to have incarnate slots unlocked. But I really doubt the devs will balance future content around everyone having all the top tiers of all the incarnate boosts. Just having the various incarnate slots unlocked and slotted with the basics is going to suffice in order to participate.
The way I understand it, the Incarnate progression isn't linear. You don't need to have top tier Alpha boosts in order to get your Judgement boosts or Lore boosts. I even doubt you will have to unlock the various Incarnate 'levels' in a specific order once they are all released. Alpha and Omega excepted. Of course this is all speculation. -
Quote:And?What's hard to understand? Incarnate is a level shift, level 51.
You're not actually lvl 51. All it basicly does is give a boost to your damage, accuracy and control durations. It's just another set bonus.
Between regular set bonusses and team buffs I can't really say that I notice the difference all that much. Solo I only really notice it when going against +4's (who are now only +3) But I don't run that high usually anyway. -
Quote:So you just start flailing wildly at anyone who seems an opportunistic target?Try having an opinion get violently attacked. Would you just passively let people pile on without trying to defend yourself?
Sorry, but I am not going to do that
I don't care that you're an ***hole. I'm an ***hole. You, however, are just being childish and making a fool of yourself. It's pathetic. -
Quote:I'm really glad you're not on the dev team.As opposed to a handful of shiny missions that require you to zone twelve times, just to click two blinkies and beat up four EBs (If you use your mission drop you only have to zone ten times, click one blinky and beat up two EBs) that you have to repeat on every character before you can even start to get anywhere? Yes, I would rather they just slap something together. Don't get me wrong, the Trapdoor and Honoree/Holtz encounters are a neat change of pace, but the first mission, the "unique" maps and the cutscene are frills that probably took more resources than everything else in the arc. So yes, I would rather have something half-***ed now than wait six months so they can tweak maps and add special effects to the bad guys.
Don't forget, you still have the alternative of repeating the WST over and over, and have been explicitly told there is another alternative coming, so if a stop-gap solo alternative is no more imaginative or "fresh" than the stop-gap team method you don't have to do it. -
Quote:Why? This is where you lose me. You are perfectly fine with not having purple enhancements, but for some reason for the incarnate enhancement you MUST have the purple one?At least as far as I'm concerned. With IOs, I can use them or not use them and still get a feeling of completion. With end-game, not using it robs me of that feeling.
Your reasoning is completely arbitrary. -

Quote:Heh, never knew Positron actually said that at comic-con. That's a pretty big oops if he indeed did say that.I don't see how Positron saying "animal parts makes sense for the mutant pack" at Comic-Con and then on the forums made it the players' fault for expecting something like, you know, animal parts in the mutant pack.
I've been hunting for the forum posts for the past 15 minutes but can't seem to find them. All I know is that from reading those posts I never got the impression actual animal parts were promised. More the opposite. Only that in the absence of actual animal parts some people might be satisfied by pieces of the mutant pack. And since that interpretation seems to have been the correct one ...
Quote:Maybe that's true, but David's comment about Jay creating it in just a few days *after* all the complaints about the Mutant Pack and *after* people posting about Positron's comment and *after* I posted all those tail pictures seems coincidental. If he says that's what happened, I'll believe him. But you saying it? No way.
Edit: or read the post further back where it gets quoted. -
Quote:The devs are spending time and money (and quite a lot of it judging by its quality) on the animal booster. Something I don't care about. I'd much prefer a sci-fi booster or steam-punk or practicly everything over an animal booster. So AWAY WITH THE ANIMAL BOOSTER!!!I think you're purposely trying to miss the major point: The Devs are spending TIME and MONEY developing content that a subsection of the game does not want. That's TIME and MONEY that won't be spent on developing the regular content WE ENJOY.
If you don't think that's something worth complaining about, then I suggest you move on to another thread that doesn't hurt your delicate sensibilities. Your constant haranguing simply gives me motivation to keep trying to battle your "I like it so STFU!" attitude
Last time I expressed that opinion, in a polite non-inflammatory manner, (in the mutant booster thread) I got called egocentric and anti-social and got accused of all sorts of things for trying to speak out against something I didn't care about.
The point is: the Devs spend time and money on a number of things that I don't care about (though the past year has been pretty good). There isn't a single thing in this game that ever got received favourably by everyone.
I'll put it like this: if the devs have already planned on soloable incarnate content than they can go ahead and add it for all I care. If they haven't planned for it, however, I'd rather they not spend time and money on it and cause the rest of the incarnate content to get delayed. -
Quote:Meh, My mother once got a complaint from my kid brother's first grade teacher that he was "overly cheerful, laughed to much and hummed to himself".funny that, i got sent home in kindergarten, teacher id the around the room "what do you want to be when you grow up"? question. i was nonplussed with the standard three answers at that age, policeman, fireman, astronaut. so i went with werewolf, and was dead serious at the time....... my mom was quite pissed that they called her, not so much at me, but i do think she was worried.
liking werewolves is not a furry "thing". making a whole server full of cat girls is another thing altogether.
Teachers tend to be idiots when it comes to kids who are a bit off the norm. -
Quote:That people were pissed at the mutant pack was their own fault for, yet again, reading way more into public statemens than what was actually there. When they showed off the Mutant Pack, there was a resounding outcry of, "Meh." Because people had it in their heads from hints Positron had dropped that the Mutant Pack was going to be an Animal Pack. (That thread is probably still around to see.) Lots of people then talked about what they wanted in an animal pack and I posted numerous photos of animals who all had fluffy tails similar to wolves. I don't recall how many animal pictures I posted, but it was more than a dozen. And then suddenly Jay creates this fluffy wolf tail and it's stuck into the pack at the last minute. David even said Jay whipped it up in a few days. That one addition almost certainly boosted sales of that pack far beyond what they would've been, based on the number of people who said they were now going to drop $10 just to get the tail.
That's an example of a thing added to a pack at the last minute. I'll bet money that they're watching these threads closely and have added a few things based on feedback. There have been a lot of good ideas which would be relatively painless and easy to add without a great deal of extra work, such as a few different ear styles or beak styles. I also like the ideas people have had about fish and frog heads. I'd totally make a character based around those, and a frog wearing a hat? Are you kidding me?
So yes, they can absolutely make this pack far bigger -- GIGANTIC, even -- by holding off a couple more weeks and adding more coolness to it.
Also the wolf tail wasn't whipped up specifically for the Mutant pack after the complaints. It was already finished for some future project (the current booster perhaps?) and was pulled from there and added to the mutant pack to appease the whiners. (And then there were still a number that complained that PS only did it to earn a quick buck on the backs of the poor, neglected anthro fans.) -
Quote:Nah, can't be something rational like that. The devs and especially marketing hate us and hold back cool stuff just to spite us. It's the only sane explanation. It's quite possible that they've given some website or similar the right to be the ones to first reveal what's coming in the booster pack. They've done such things before, after all.
If that's why they pulled the posts that show those images, then I can't help but imagine Black Pebble stalking through the Paragon offices, waving a cattle prod around and demanding to know who's to blame for this slip. -
I'm in the same boat. Those are some really fine quality pieces by the looks of it, but I really can't think of a single character I would use them on ...

Quote:As an introvert I can say that I love teaming, TFs and everything that has to do with it. The Apex TF is the best piece of content this game has imo.I don't disbelieve you, but it's a claim about a much broader subject that I can't explore too fully in the confines of a discussion about CoHs team features. Where I mainly disagree with you is that anyone who is an "introvert" would automatically not like teaming in City of Heroes. Some people who like it here may hate it elsewhere and be lukewarm about it somewhere else. Every type of interaction isn't weighted the same. The concepts of "teaming," and "interaction" (and also "player killing") differ between games, whether its CoH, Diablo, DragonRealms, Neverwinter Nights, or the old Dragon's Inn chat rooms on AOL.
It is also true, that after a certain point (which can be after a single TF, or a 16 hour gameathon it differs day to day) I've had enough and I really need to do something solo in game, or some other loner activity outside the game (reading or just staring at the ceiling while listening to music usually works) so I can recharge my batteries. Interacting with people, even online, is draining.
In the same vain, I love summer music festivals. 3 days in a tent on a camping site with a group of friends and surrounded by thousands of other people. I love it. For 3 days. Afterwards I usually lock myself away for two days and really appreciate it if people just leave me the heck alone. I did a four day festival once and that really stretched my limits. I don't think I was all that pleasant on the road home. -

Quote:I play at off hours, mornings, after midnight, ... depending on which shift I have at work. I play on the EU servers which apparently are all low-pop compared to most NA servers.I truly feel sorry for people that play at off hours and/or on very low population servers. I simply don't see how the current design direction is going to work for them.
I don't get the problem.
If you can't make time 2 hours in a row for a TF for various reasons, fair enough, but the whole low pop servers/odd hours excuse is just nonsense imo. -
