I just wanted to let everyone know I'm going to go make a sandwich, and I might stop to feed the turtles on the way back.
Don't cry in my absence, for I WILL return (hint, hint) by the time the second hand on the clock goes around half a dozen times.
It's been a great five years, but remember the lore of the Hickman: he'll keep coming back as long as there's food, so make sure you close the dumpster tightly... -
I just had one. I was in the Rikti War Zone, and I had to look two or three times because I kept thinking it said my contact was Macy Gray.
-
I'll definitely keep that in mind for the future.

Quote:I'm pretty sure we're packed to the rafters now, Z-Man (as it was, we had to lose about half a dozen of the customs I initially created for the arc, but hey, I can always recycle). If there's enough memory for another custom foe, the energy drain problem can be somewhat alleviated by creating another wolf with other power and throw it into the custom faction. That way they'd be half the number of end drainers per spawn. How about a Wolf Ganger?

Ha! Thank you, airhead, I enjoyed that very much.
Regarding the "Assist me, my creations," that's because there was originally an ambush there, but I think it has been pulled for space (in fact, I seem to recall someone else mentioning it in one of the early reviews of the arc, so I think it was there for a brief time). -
One of the most charming posts ever.
Thank you. -
Airhead, I hope I enjoy this arc as much as your description of it...
-
I'm in total agreement. I started playing this game five or six years ago because I dig superheroes. But I've STAYED for five or six years because I love the folks involved.
It's like one big family.
I just wish I wasn't the uncle that the kids aren't allowed to be around... -
Quote:You're very welcome.Like I said, my only complaint was the end drain, the arc overall was great. Maybe running it solo isn't too bad because you're only dealing with a few at a time. I was on a small team and taking most of the aggro, and therefore most of the end drain. Very entertaining arc though, thanks for making it.
Yeah, I was only able to run it solo when testing, so I just had to sort of hope and guestimate. -
Very cool poster, SS. And welcome back!
P.S. Don't call me honey. -
Quote:In my case, everyone's always welcome to send comments directly to me if they don't want to post 'em here. And yeah, I've played the game fairly obsessively for five years or so and continue to do so almost every day (I promise I didn't get my 12K posts on these boards by bidding for them on ebay).Well, I know that Mercedes Lackey does/did play CoH (and for some time), and of course The Pantsless One plays. Not sure about Austin Grossman, to be honest.
And I agree with Irresponsible's comment - the arc author can't really improve if they don't know what's wrong. If you don't feel comfortable posting the criticism on the forums, perhaps you might ask Dr. Aeon if you can send it to HIM and let HIM forward it on to the author for consideration. Just a thought... -
In your defense, that was Freak Show legend Meanus de Vilo!

Quote:So glad to hear you enjoyed it. Thanks much for the feedback. I'll keep the mish difficulty in mind more in the future (that was probably the toughest part for me in creating the arc).Today I played "A Little Night Music".
I played on the easiest settings and was able to solo it without too much trouble, but I did need to use inspirations. For me it was slightly too hard for the easy settings. However I was playing on a level 35 with no fancy IOs.
That being said, I really enjoyed this arc. It had a nice story, but for me its strength was the customs, the mission titles and the text. It was so full of music references from Phantom to Caberet. There were tons of details that made me smile. In short, I loved the arc, and the reason I wish it was slightly easier is so I could fully enjoy all the great details. -
This one time, at band camp...
(That joke would work better if so many of my best true life stories HADN'T actually happened at band camp! Heck, it's where I saw my first real live naked woman! And if my New Year's resolution works out, soon I'll see my second one!)
But to the matter at hand...it's not a glitch or anything, but one of my biggest WTF moments came a month or so after I started playing, and really knew NOTHING about CoH. I was in a mission, feeling all full of myself as I mowed down one Council member after another. I was master of all I surveyed...a golden god...and then...holy crap, that @#$% just turned into a werewolf! Cosmic faceplant.
I tell ya...if I had been wearing pants I would've had to change them... -
Cool pics!
You know, every time I look at one of those things, I end up not feeling quite so bad about my own disproportionate head... -
Quote:Rats! Had I known, I would've liked to at least have run my arc with you. Maybe next time; I wouldn't mind bopping around in MA missions with a team.Near full team today. We finished up the new guest author arcs and then had some time to run another random arc. They were:
Mystery on the Boardwalk by Mercedes Lackey Arc ID: 369275
A Little Night Music by Tro Hickman Arc ID: 369271
Trouble in Amazonia by @jdubrich Arc ID: 344818
BTW, with free transfers extended for another month why not move a character over to Triumph and join the team? You can also always just start a new one since we have no level limits or requirments.

Quote:My computer just barely runs CoH now, unfortunately, let alone an Ultra Mode. I'm hoping one of these days I can get a newer model, but given the fact that I LITERALLY bought Ramen noodles today, you tell me how broke I am...Did you upgrade your stomach for that mode?
Actually, in all seriousness did you upgrade your computer so it can run Ultra Graphics Mode, Hickman? -
Quote:Thanks much, KB5K. Yeah, I think everyone should run through the mission solo at least once, as a lot of the fun is in the text.I've now played through all three of the new guest author arcs and here are my impressions.
Playing on a team I didn't get to experience much of the mystery of Mystery on the Boardwalk. As I wasn't seeing many of the details of the story as such it was a bit confusing. That being said, the enemies came thick and fast, in nice big clumps just the way I like 'em. The tunnel maps can be a little claustrophobic at times, but they suited the story. I plan to rerun this one solo to do it justice.
With A Little Night Music I ran solo on the Killbot (L50 FM/Inv Brute). I got to read the tale as it unfolded this time which made for a totally different experience. Without giving away details, the premise of your adventure is laid out by your contact in a clear cut way, and yet I still entered the missions unsuspecting of what horrors Hickman had waiting. The two strongest aspects of this arc are the custom critters and the story itself. The critters have intricately detailed backgrounds and nifty costumes with the trademark brand of Hickman humour. The tale leaves one with a sense of a job well done and a slight lingering doubt of your sanity.
Return of the Crime Cabal was a real stand out arc for me. I found the story compelling in a way that most arcs don't quite achieve. The use of complex mechanics, characters with some depth, and the writing all came together in just the right amounts.
Edit: Only Noobs watch the Tube. Aeon Entertainment for all your entertainment needs.
I dug what Austin did with the writing on his arc, too. Definitely a unique approach to the MA. Very cool. -
So when is this Ultra Ala Mode coming? I'm starving...

This spot in KR is my fave, for obvious reasons:
However, I've also always loved Lusca from the first moment I saw her, and every time I see her, I stop for a while and kind of "commune." -
Quote:Thank you! Much appreciated. I take it you soloed it?I ran Troy Hickman's arc last night. It was very good. It had difficult opponents and a believable storyline. The third mission could be killer. Stacked mobs with twilight grasp can be tough. The puns were plentiful but not in such a way to keep the story from being serious. It was well balanced, I think, between the humorous and the dramatic.
Yeah, I'm still working on understanding the gameplay aspects of mission creation, as far as balancing enemy attacks and such, but I'll get there, and I'll never go hungry again! -
I've played for five years and have created probably 120 or so characters. I think maybe TWICE have I ever had to go with my second choice for a name.
I did recently get a "you're being made generic" email, though...
D'oh! -
Is there some way of creating smarter players?
If so, I'm getting in line twice. -
Quote:Very cool! Thanks much. Here you go, screenshots from Dream Team Aeon.
Sorry you didn't get more out of the arc, Lazarus. Now that I've done one of these, I've got the bug to keep creating 'em, so hopefully as I do more, I'll crank out one that grabs you. Maybe I'll play through some of yours for pointers; they seem to be well-received.
