    Oh I agree wholeheartedly that a team is the sum of it's parts, please don't misunderstand me there. My favourite AT to team with as a close-range fighter is definitely a good controller (preferable /kin /rad /emp).

    But as for my original question, you sort of bypassed it since your example showed me nothing of the tauntless tanker's ability. With a team like that, and on a trial like Eden, he would have been irrelevant for the most part anyway. I have no doubt that you could have swapped out the tank for any other AT and had the same results on your GM, which doesn't show me a tauntless tank protecting his team mates, if that makes sense.

    Where as I have now posted a clear example on how I was able to, with taunt, keep 3 scrappers alive (of course them using their own powers too - regen, regen, dark armour) on that same GM. That would be an example of swapping a taunting tank for a tauntless one, that I would see as a pertinent answer for my question, really.

    Note this was also the time and place where I worked out that I could taunt in such a way. Our first attempt a scrapper fell over every couple of footstomps. Since using taunt in this manner, it does mean I can't do any damage to the monster, but no footstomp = no deaths.

    I hope you're not taking any of this personally Psygon. I've put forward my argument that given any tank without taunt, he/she would be better at keeping aggro by dropping a small attack and picking it up, and I'm just trying to defend that position. I'd hate for you to think badly of me after all the help you gave me with my forcefield defender!

    Indeed it isn't a good indicator. Psygons teams suffered so few deaths because of the high amount of heals/buffs/debuffs available rather than tanking powers. I was just using it to illustrate GM PBAoE squishy-saving tactics, which cant work with tauntless tankers.

    I've run an Eden with 1 tank (myself) and 3 scrappers. We failed to take the crystal titan down, mostly because of technical difficulties (and so we ran out of time) , but the Granite GMs were no sweat. Once I was perched up out of footstomp range, taunting, the scrappers could move in with impunity.

    I'd love to know any other methods this could have worked with the same team, if the tank did not have taunt. And 'dropping him in a hole' will not accomplish defeating him. It just takes him out of play, and afaik, you can't hit him without dropping into the hole with him (still going with 3 scrappers and 1 tank here). I know some scrappers have ranged attacks, but enough that 3 of them could take down a GM?

    I'm not even sure that 2 of the scrappers taking confront and ping-ponging the GM would work, surely not enough DPS? Plus the tank would likely outtaunt this everytime he attacked anyway.

    I took Tech Tower to 500k. Next highest in the SG has 490k.

    Ok I told him to turn off SGmode so he didn't overtake me

    I turned off gathering prestige at 500k. I liked the number. Think I'll turn it back on again.

    Oh, in case anyone was curious: Tech Tower was a 50 since before CoV came live. That's how much I enjoy playing as him (and no, I don't know any exploits).

    Recently did the Eden Trial with the following team:

    1 x Kinetics Defender (lvl 39)
    1 x Nrg/Nrg Blaster (lvl 39)
    1 x Illusion Controller (lvl 42 I *think*)
    1 x Empath (lvl 43)
    1 x Storm Defender (lvl 46)
    1 x DM/SR Scrapper (lvl 50)
    1 x Tauntless Tank (lvl 45)
    1 x Dark Defender (lvl 50)

    Had a grand total of 2 deaths throughout the entire trial

    1 of them was when the Scrapper decided to show his costume off to a big group of DE outside (and the tank was no where near) in Eden doing the kill 200 mission, the other was when the Kinetics defender decicided to go for a super douper fulcrum shift about 2 seconds before the tank had fully managed the aggro from a big group of those crystal DE thingies...

    Never even came close to death while taking down both of the big rock GMs or the crystal titan.

    So, um, actually... tauntless tanking in the Eden trial can work fine

    (as a comparison we ran the same Trial the week before with a taunting tank and we actually had more deaths...)

    With that much healing power on a team no wonder you only had 2 deaths. Care to post the team makeup of the team with the taunting tanker? I'm guessing a load less green numbers flying around...

    I would go so far as to suggest a tank in that team wouldn't have made much difference anyway. The illusionists decoys quite probably took most of the attacks, and dropping Fortitude and AB on a the regen could have functioned just as well. I'm also curious if the ill controller was /rad. Chances are good that it was, which would have floored the GMs attacks anyway (dmg, acc, recharge), or /kin, which is more green and -(acc, rech, dmg, resist) anyway.

    I'm not saying taunt makes the tank (where you seem to be saying it makes the team). I'm saying the same tank who has dropped a small attack for picking up taunt would function better in his role (that being to keep aggro off those needing to have the aggro kept off them), in the same team.

  7. Let's say it does work, then everyone who comes in gets the badge.
    And if it doesn't work, only the secondary team doesnt get the badge.
    And if it does work, and only 8 are invited, then you miss out on people getting the bage when they could have...

    Do you have anything to base your 'it doesn't work' on? I know that you can have mutliple teams inside a mission at the same time with this method. I just have never used it so have no idea if the end benefits are given to all memebers of all the teams, or if it is just one team which is randomly chosen, which seems odd to me.

    I'd try it, unless someone has tried it in the past and can confirm it definitely won't work.

  8. How about inviting your team, and then letting one of them quit team and invite the rest?

    I believe that everyone inside the mission at the end will recieve the badge (as long as everyone comes in right at the start, usual rules), and having like 12 people in the mish can only make it more likely to be pulled off right?

    Back on topic:
    Taunt is one of the best powers you can have on a tank. Other ones include your taunt aura and your main form of protection. Attacks are quite low on the priorities for a great tank.

    Giant Monsters (etc) with footstomp (esque) pbaoes are easily overcome by perching up somewhere or hover/flying while taunting, as previously mentioned. I have done it several times while doing Eden Trial runs (for the Granite monsters and Crystal Titan), a trial I very much enjoy. I'd love to see how a tauntless tank can protect his team mates who are gathered around the feet of a monster in such an effective way.

    I tanked a Granite this way in the Eden Trial, with another (groundbound fire) tank on team. Everytime the other tanker took aggro off me someone fell over on the ground.

    Show me two tankers, slotted and powered identically, where one has taunt in place of a small attack on the other, and try to tell me that the tauntless one is as good at keeping squishies alive as the other. With a straight face, that is.

    Yeah, I tend to rely on Dark Consumption for endurance, and that works well most of the time, but I don't run all of my shields all of the time, since most of them I find situational (you won't need to worry about this as you don't have DA). Having a Speed Boost or AB/RA friendly Empath around does wonders for the soul..

    But pleease dont drop Shadow Maul! It's a fantastic power, it really is.

  12. I'm hoping to pick up the corrupter mish-set and some PP missions in pretty short order with my scrapper, Satisfaction (lvl 32, as per sig). Currently Neal <whateverhisnameis> is giving me the Freak arc that he has, so after that I guess I will be posting about the corrupter badge.

    I have the mission just prior to the Kronos Titan (90min instanced mish, not outside spawn) on Tech Tower. If we can scrape together an 8-toon team to complete the mission (taking the Kronos last, so people don't leave after the badge and leave me with an incredibly hard 8-toon spawn clearing ), then anyone needing that badge can give me a yell, probably tomorrow (Thursday 11th May).

    Shrug.

    I have the defeat Devore (name?) carnies AV on my 'other' 50, and don't mind if people want to farm that for illusionists. But they are same level spawn, so would be a pain in the neck. Hopefully I'll get some lower level carny missions and help out with that one. Farming off level 45 master illusionists is a bit easier, really.

  14. Strange, I found fly more useful in PvP than SJ. Previously I couldn't touch most toons, they'd jump in, hit me, then fly off, it was really irritating.

    Now I can fly after them, and Air Superiority them down again (sometimes), and then we can play.

    I was experimenting while playing with Skull Bender, my level 50 controller, earlier this morning. I was very suprised to see how much of a boost Power Boost gave to fly and superspeed! I should get him SJ and see if if affects that too. Very nice little power there.

    Most things that -fly also seem to -jump, for the most part. SJ I was always ground bound because of some [censored] throwing out caltrops or glue arrow or something. Wasn't fun. Why don't my resistances resist that? Perhaps -fly/jump should be resistable with the immob type resistances. Sigh..

    I'm 99% sure of each of the individual parts, the quit_sg I'm not so sure about, but I think it's right. The only weird thing would be the order. I understand that they are parsed backwards, so you might need to switch the quit_sg with the dialog_yes...

    Shrug.

    If enough people started using such a bind, we might see less blind invites... Of course you'd want to unbind it when you get into an SG you like... Otherwise it could lead to some rather bad situations, I'd expect.

    I might be out tomorrow, and I will most likely be out on thursday also, so either we get some pics taken tonight or we do some last minute ones on friday. It's a real shame that they don't have any PCs set up there so I can log in and let them see our toons (with a little preperation getting everyone online), and not sure how they'll look in print for the sketches

    Ah well, we'll see what we see. I'll see if a 'donation' of 30-40 squids will get a few of us half-sized on a peice of paper, as a group shot that I'd like. But if you guys want full sized stand alone pics I'll need to grab a couple of squid off ya at some point too.

    Oh, from the official web site there is a £10 'donation' for a full body A4 sketch, and £5 for a headshot, or something. I'll have to dig up the link another time. Maybe you guys could just take a load of pics of your toons and gmail them to me when you get a chance? You could then use your new cossie off the test server dutch Maybe I should take Tech over and see if I can make something new too. Hmm. Apparently they need a few shots, front, back, sides, and close ups of faces and detail like that. In your case Dutch I'd whip out my sword, and take pics like that. I'll be taking shots of Tech with his Axe out, since I missed that last time, doh. I'm hoping to get one of Tech and Puma together, at the least.

    Anyway, other plans tonight? I had fun last night. Let's do that again. Who's got more paint thinner!?

    Strangely I see a lot of people without SGs, true, mostly lower levels, but a lot of 30+ toons too.

    This could possibly be attributed to them switching out of SG mode to gain influence and the SG leader kicking them. But in those cases I'd say the kickee is better off anyway, since I wouldn't want to be part of an SG that was like that.

    We have a few pre-CoV 50s in our SG, with a good load of influence, so we can help out any lower levels who need it and still want to contribute with prestige. If they'd rather turn to inf themselves that's fine too, bases are a nice-to-have rather than a need-to-have, in my SG. The way we see it, we have a fully raidable base now, the extra stuff will come in time anyway.

    Well, I never expected to post to the Roleplaying forum, not doing RP myself.. at all.

    But! I have sat on the steps near GG and watched ya'll doing your thing a few times, though it was hard to get the gist of, not knowing what was had gone on before. Interesting to see people getting into it so much. Like watching a random play (do you guys pre-script things?).

    Anyway! Am looking forward to meeting ya'll in Bristol over the weekend And I will be out looking for hugs I missed most of you in Brighton, turning up late on the Saturday, but will hopefully put more faces to... forum handles.

    Well you might as well pick up all the required badges with the rest of us, who have the lists and [censored], so when you pick up Spelunker you'll be sweet. I'll see if I can grab the mish with Shrug, I think he's magic.

    I'm keen for this. I'm not gonna go overkill badging up Satisfaction, since Tech is really my hunter, but the accolades would be nice still. Though probably not Arch Mage... Getting those illusionists is a major pain.

    TFs: Croatoa, Numina. Or is it Manticore? Hrm I should really check.

    Red Earth and Satisfaction appear to be near to unlocking Katie for the Croatoa TF. I think we're on the last contact now. We'll get it done and see if we can squeeze in the TF this week before the weekend.

    In case everyone forgot, it's Comic Convention in Bristol weekend . I've got a couple of train tickets to go over/up, for the Saturday morning and back Sunday evening, so I'll be afk most of the weekend. I was thinking of taking screenies of the group and getting some sketched. Anyone keen? I don't know if anyone has seen the sketch I have of Tech Tower, but I was very happy with it I think it's linked to in my signature.

  23. For people after Igneous bosses, it's much easier and faster to hunt in hollows. Got loads of levels under your belt, and can one or 2 shot them, rather than needing to grind with big teams.

  24. Well, if you're just after the badge (with a decent amount of XP for those in range too) I can bring my Cave of Transcendance-built Illusion Controller, who has done this run a few times (best run was 9min 54s from go ).

    If you're in a kill-all mood (which is well achievable), I would like to join with someone in XP range My Ice tank 'Shrug' most likely.

    If there's enough interest, I could do a run for the badge hunters with Skull, and then join the kill all team with Shrug

    Those are some good levels, we have a few coming through mid 20s right now, which will work out well for ya (and us), and we have a bunch of 50s that occasionally come out to play

    I'm sure everyone will welcome you in too. I'll yell if I see you around tonight and bring you aboard, and introduce you around (possibly not in that order...). It's only a small SG, but it's fun and good people who are around a lot . I have a bit of sway in the group, but like everyone to like everyone, if ya know what I mean
