Oh wait, all ATs are superfluous.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Strickly speaking, this isn't true.

All-Blaster and All-Scrapper teams underperform terribly.

All-Tank teams can at least spread out aggro when a member gets in trouble.

Tanks are only superfluous when there are no Controllers or Defenders on a team.

    A rare occasion, I know...

    [/ QUOTE ]

I disagree heartily. An all-blaster team with one or two /Ice or /TA Blasters on it is like a wave of destruction. One with a couple /Devs holds its enemies with its caltrops and picks them off. An all-scrapper team goes through enemies like a scythe through wheat. If one or two are Regens it is just sick how fast they are.

Up to AVs, any team of any composition can do CoH missions on Heroic since I5.

I stand by the reasoning being primarily that if 1 person can provide 100% of the team role of their archetype for a large team then the second member of that archetype that arrives is at best "emergency backup". If one tanker can handle the tanking of an 8-person team (primarily this is in terms of aggro-redirection) then a second tanker is basically redundant.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Katahn, you're missing the fact that this is a good thing.

I feel bad that some players will be underused some times in some situations. That's actually a real problem.

On the other (more important) Hand, Making a Tank Not Redundant Is Functionally Identical To Needing More Than One.

If one Tank can't carry a team (by design), then I need two (or more). When I need two or more, that's someone else telling me how to make up my team.

In Issue 5, it's great that Heroes are no longer redundant. I like that, everyone gets to feel Heroic.

Then there's me, Team Leader. I now need 2 Defenders, and/or 2 Controllers, and/or 2 Tanks....two of an AT, when before I needed one. This makes team-building hell, and leads to me kicking my Blaster/Scrapper friends on some occasions.

I don't see how exchaging one problem for a slighty worse one is good, although I'm sure someone will tell me how I'm wrong.

    [/ QUOTE ]

See, GS, I believe you've got it wrong.

Under I5, it's not that Tankers are redundant. What it means is that you, as team leader, can now make a team up of any or all ATs and be able to do missions up to the AV level on Heroic. Period. NO AT IS NOW NECESSARY TO DO YOUR MISSION WITH ADEQUATELY SKILLED PLAYERS.

If you're good enough, you can do it on a higher difficulty setting. This is the first time in the history of CoH in which this has been true.

This starts to break down in the low 40s, where some of the enemies encountered need special combos *Infernal cough*, *Rularuu cough*.

I5 is probably the most team-friendly build we've ever had on the servers since before the Purple Patch.

Now for a hard question: How do you pronounce "Kheldian"?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    'Fruh-stray-shun.' Variants include, 'Dehtt,' 'Pay-pur Tie-gur,' and 'Eh-pick Ay-Tee Mie-ahs.'

    [/ QUOTE ]

WAtched a PB last night in the arena toy with an INV/Eng tanker last night. The tank had something like 53 victories against other ATs before the PB ate him. My guess is that they're going to be seriously nerfed for PvP.
  5. I want to apologize for the extent to which I got hot-headed in this thread. Those gentle readers who have perused my posts in the past know that I am normally pretty rational in my discourse. This is a subject about which I often feel that I am a voice crying in the wilderness.

I will try to be nicer in the future. After all, I *am* on Triumph.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
Great, now a mission with an AV is timed...

Oh, let's not forget you need to defeat shadowhunter to get your Dimensional Warder badge.

Oh, don't forget you need the Dimensional Warder badge to get the Portal Jockey Accolade.

Gee, thanks for making it so if my team screws up this mission I get screwed out of a great accolade.

    Way to go, Devs!

    [/ QUOTE ]

    NOT THE DEVS.

I'm going to finish with my participation in this thread because my point is just not sinking in. I will reiterate them with some predictions:

Powerlevellers will be bad citizens and irresponsibly play the game "the way they want to" no matter if it is a good idea or not, seeking out the maximum reward for the minimum effort.

The DEVs will continue to change the game to thwart them as they have, over and over again *as the examples that I mentioned will demonstrate to an unbiased observer.*

People like the above poster, possibly completely innocent, will suffer.

That's it. I stand by the above prediction, as I stood by my forecast of the Wolf timer. You can debate theory all you want, but the results are going to be the same--80% of the servers' populations will suffer because 20% want to take the easy way out.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
Yup and those of us who still herd in other missions are keeping our mouths shut and not sharing the info. Herding lives folks.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, don't send me a /tell to ask for my help. I could care less what you do on your time, but I don't want to be pestered because someone wants my powerset for their benefit.

Enjoy it while you can. Two people can keep a secret when one of them is dead.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
Again Ami, if you were smart enough to check the other boards, ive already explained that i went scrapper and did not TOUCH the Fitness pool.

Im voicing my opinion here. Whoever said that im looking for attention is stupid- arent toe boards made for this? This is my chance to talk to the devs.

Now lets SAY that i am a noob who has not a clue what hes talking about...you can go on all u guys want about how stupid and dumb i am.

Does that take away from the fact that the WLers are still makuing the game a real pain for alot of people?

No im sorry but its still an issue and i am curious about what the devs about. Attacking my personal credibility just shows your own incapability to have a DISCUSSION and turn it into an argument.

Im not attacking the DEvs. I really apretiate everything theyve done for the game. But I still have a say, just like every one else has.

    [/ QUOTE ]

We got a new member in our SG the other day. He's been playing about a month. He told me today that he PL'd with WLs with another character, then realized that he had missed a bunch of stuff, so now he has made a new character, is up to 12 and is learning as he goes along.

I have been answering more than my pre-WL share of questions when I fly through the different Triumph zone, but personally have not run into anyone who has been consistently ignorant.

Things that I've learned by playing the game for a long time:

Pickup teams can be real disasters unless you run them because quality control varies

The Fitness pool and Stamina, especially, is absolutely essential for effective Scrapper builds.

The DEVs put the TP-accept toggle in the game for a reason, and should be kept in the "prompt-on" mode.

I was expecting sheer horror in the game from what everyone was saying, and all I'm getting is a few mildly amusing questions. If you were in Beta, you ought to remember when EVERYONE was a nOOb. How the hell did we survive the first few months when no one knew the game?
  9. Actually, on Triumph, there's going to be a "hunt the Crash Site" adventure this Friday night where players are going to walk to the saucer.

And the week after that, we're talking about a major hunting foray into the Shard.

I think Valkarye is going to be organizing them.

Personally, I hunt the Crash Site a lot, but then, I always loved hunting in Eden and Crey's, too.

If you've read this month's new Discover Magazine, there is an article about time/dimensional travel. Apparantly four nuclear-bomb powered x-ray lasers could theoretially be used to tear a whole in spacetime if they are aimed correctly and all activated at the same time aiming at the exact same spot, preferably at exact 90degree angles to maximize impact..

    [/ QUOTE ]

Honestly, that sounds like a joke. It's as if they just slammed as many scientific terms together to try an confuse people. "Errr... X-Rays... Nuclear radiation... explosions...."

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, actually, the only way you *could* make an x-ray laser right now is with a nuclear explosion behind some single crystals of a metal. You can't diffract x-rays at large angles very easily. This is one of the reasons that the Chandra X-ray telescope is so long. You have to focus the x-rays using angles in the 10-20 degree range or less.

Generally, I consider Discover the National Enquirer of science magazines. There's some facts in there, but the rampant speculation by folks on the edge of their fields can be somewhat disconcerting.

I think we should be able to find 4 level 50 energy or rad blasters to practice this..

    [/ QUOTE ]

I can't see how mere x-ray lasers could do that. At Fermilab we collided matter and anti-matter together at .9999999999999999999999999999999 times the speed of light, and we didn't tear apart the fabric of the universe successfully.

There seems to be a way to actually do this, but you need a cylinder of neutronium of near-infinite height rotating at a sizable fraction of the speed of light. I believe Tipler came up with this in the 70s.

This is a good short article.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
There have been some good suggestions for Faultline--a contact, maybe a fence of some sort, a hospital--but why not take it a step further? This would be difficult to implement, but I think a lot of players would find it appealing:

    Make Faultline the front line.

It's clear that the villains have the upper hand in the zone; that's why there are no conveniences there. Give heroes an incentive to push them back, with real, tangible results. Track the total xp earned in the zone (to keep high-levels from gaming the system). If the total crosses a certain threshold, respawn the zone with footholds--safe areas with an infirmary (a hospital, but in a temp structure like a tent or Quonset hut), a field trainer who buys enhancements at a good price, and a contact who sells skittles and gives generic missions--and maybe even loans you "weapons" (temp powers) occasionally. As long as the xp total stays above the threshold each day, the conveniences stay in place. If the heroes let up, they go away and have to be re-established. Maybe even have some buildings restored or ramps added if the zone stays in the green for long periods of time.

Like I said, it might be a pain to implement, but it would be cool. Haven't we all wished, at one point or another, that we could see a real effect we have on the city? We beat up a swarm of villains, only to have more appear moments later--a necessary game mechanic, but disheartening. Having a few places where there are signs that the war on crime can be won would be a great motivator.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh, this is a wonderful idea. It could also be implemented in The Hollows, DA, Eden, and the Rikti Crash site, so there would be such an area for each tier of players to make a difference. DEVs, hire this guy.

ive been hearing that on the next update that is due on december 28th???? that max level will be extended to 75. but i can not find anything about it. i would have dismissed it but i've heard it from 3 other people. on 2 different servers..????

Positron all the way on the rock.

    Brilliant. Just brilliant.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My question is what do rocks have to do with halloween? Many things may be thrown, eggs and TP, but rocks?

Was this supposed to be about stoning witches and other monsters to death? I just don't get it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's from "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown." CB went trick or treating, and got a rock instead of candy. Good grief!!!
  16. [ QUOTE ]
I started a new character late last night, I saw a total of three other characters the entire time. At that point I thought "why not". Headed to the back of the contaminted zone and had at it. As for not finding the baddies for the 2 and 4 mish reqs, kind of boggles my mind. Those things spawn awfully fast. Maybe you have to hunt a bit more, but just keep going over the same patch of ground, they come back fast.

Now, if you engage one of a group of two and someone who is on the 100 kill kick gets your other one...I see the issue there. Of course, I think it would be nice if the folks doing the 100 kill thing went to the back and let the ones who just want the 2 and 4 to get the ones at the front. but thats just me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Can't you team up in Outbreak? It would seem to me that a team of 8 could split up and get 100 pretty fast.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
no im just tired of the "fact" being stated that there is no work being done....i have posted that once and people are still saying"i have a problem with blah blah blah" when the majority that get pl'ed and pl do what i said...they pl each others alts. Not sensitive just tired of the lies.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And I'm tired of people on the Broadcast channel spamming "PL me, Plz". If everyone is trading work with their Supergroups, no one would be doing this. Looks like an existence proof that at least *someone* or many someones are not using the method you're describing.

Anyway, I would be willing to bet 50k influence that this method of gaining XP is eliminated in the next couple months. Not because anyone whined, but because it was never intended and it slipped through the cracks when the game went live.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
DANGIT....im going to post this one more [censored] time.....you say its not right that they camp there getting xp. Well when someone PL's you its MOSTLY a SG member or a friend of yours. When they roll and ALT you have to do the same thing. So actually you DO work i know it is hard for you to believe now shut the [censored] up. You have not provided any good evidence that power leveling is cheating. It is a way to get by the low levels but its not a way to get 50 in one hour by expoiting the system. You still have to do work when getting powerleveled so quit saying that PL'ers do nothing....i have to do my part jsut like my buddys do theres. Like i said get some strong evidence other than comparing it to crimes, and saying its wrong.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wow, overly sensitive much? If this issue is causing you that much pain I suggest you stop reading the thread.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Poster's just worried someone is going to abscond with his PIE.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Kazarak, NinjaPirate, Thanks for the support. However, we are now seeing the lying/denial side of the cheaters. This could go on forever and I hope that it does because maybe the designers will see the post and think about it.

To those out there if you did cheat that’s OK, because what can you do about it now. I’m more concerned about stopping it than making people feel badly about what they did in the past. Let’s look toward the future.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Your opinion on the topic is yours to have, but to continually deny yourselves that you are being jealous about something is ludicrous. PL'ing is not an exploit. The devs put this in the game so that if I have been playing for many months and now my friend discovers the game and wants to play with me, he can side kick and we can enjoy the game. The lower level guy is going to get massive amounts of XP in relation to his level and is going to be able to level up. If you are referring to my friend being SK'ed to another friend of my same level or within the level gap and then only the SK and me are on the same team and I am killing massive amounts or creatures so that he can get XP, that is not an exploit or a bug. It is part of the game. You and others have posted that you do not agree with this ethically. That's fine. But it's not a bug or an exploit. And comparing the game and what others are doing in game to level to REAL LIFE situations of crime and abuse against humanity is way out of control. Never compare someone else power leveling to **** or robbery. They do not belong together.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It is possible that this way of doing things is intentional on the part of the Devs. However, if, in two months, they change your ability to do this, will you come on the boards and say, "well, I was wrong, they didn't intend this after all?"

It is always a risky thing to attempt to read the minds of people that you don't know.

(My guess is, actually, that you'll come back on and say, "You SOBs complained and whined until the Devs went and nerfed this ability.")
  20. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Let me put it this way...I could care less if someone plays hardcore and gets to 40 in a few days. I DO care if they use what I consider a cheat/exploit to do so. So wrong again on the envy theory...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Your caring and attempting to distinguish it as something bad are indicative of envy. If you didn't care, you wouldn't be posting about it.

Now I don't really care. I don't engage in the practice but I don't really have a problem with those who do so. They miss out on elements of the game that I enjoy.

    [ QUOTE ]
As for arguement techniques...I wasn't aware there were any, and I find the idea of it to be silly. They may have a place in a formal debate but not here.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Here, let me help you out. As to not engaging in fallacious argument approaches, that has a place in any argument otherwise you're just wasting time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

oh please get rid of that link.

i think we are already enduring a high enough level of middle school debate club monkey wannabes on this here forum.

besides .. logic systems, fallacies and all, have no place on these forums. these forums are about a game which is being developed with pretty much no logic .... we must argue as such.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, let's not get rid of the link. The purpose of any message board is to discuss the issues at hand. In some cases, some of us will attempt to convince others that our opinions have some validity. If we fall into *known* fallacies, we are miscommunicating, either purposely or in ignorance, and basically wasting each others' time (except for comedic effect or fanboi/troll conversations.)

One of the reasons that discourse on the 'Net and in other media has become so shrill is that folks cannot distinguish between valid arguments and logical fallacies.

5 stars to the person who posted the link for helping to educate.
  21. Sorry, guys. I can't believe that the max level attained is in any way indicative of how well a character is being role-played. Maybe the player is just really, really smart. I can't see arbitrary rules like this as being important. Since I've been role-playing for 30 years, I figure I should know how to do it by myself without someone telling me the rules.

    TC
