Quote:Yes, I can't stress this enough, nobody expected NCsoft to reverse their decision, except in a perfect fairytale world. A transfer of ownership has been the first most realistic opportunity to save CoH. Today's news changes nothing, and everyone needs to keep that that in mind. We have been expecting this announcement to come, so nobody panic. Nothing has changed. That hinges on NCSoft selling the IP, which is something they haven't done before. Convincing them to do that is what out focus needs to be on. The moment they publicly announced that CoH was closing, it was a given that they couldn't really pull back and say "just kidding," no matter how much they regretted it afterward. The best plan to save the game as it is now has always been convincing them to sell it rather than just mothball it.

Heh, nice! I was thinking of doing this a couple of days ago, but didn't want to drive myself bonkers looking for the textures.
Something else from when I was musing over it... presuming the text strings aren't server-based. Have the activist NPC's talk about stopping the closure. -
This thread just screams what was said about SWTOR last December, right after the much more versatile SWG was shut down to make way for it (which ALSO feels eerily familiar to the current situation)
Then came the Tortanic iceberg. EA's (another rather evil mega game corporation usually referenced by 2 letters) stocks crashed like a stone, half the population left, and SWTOR is going F2P in the fall. -
Am I alone in thinking that vortex might as well have been tornado?
-
LOL I hadn't opened this thread yet because I assumed it was a discussion about using Steam to make CoH more visible to gamers who have never played it, and I'd already read about that topic in other threads.
I'll have to check this out when the beta is live. -
Anybody got one? I've found one for every Virtue instance except that.
-
Trouble is, the moment the game closes, the number of players who will return to it is going to theoretically decline. The more time that passes, the more CoH players will move onto something else and risk not being wrangled back. The value of the IP in the eyes of other businesses will only get staler the longer it sits in the back of the pantry.

I brought this up on the Titan forums because it applied to the campaign and that there are still players out there who still don't know this is coming. It's interesting to note that if you don't do a lot of web surfing and/or don't ever come to these forums, you'd have no clue that a termination was coming. NOTHING in the NC Launcher or loading into the game (how hard would it have been for a little system message to appear at login?) gives you any indication that the game is counting down to oblivion. It's unbelievable to me that the only chance those players have at finding out is by word of mouth/keyboard.

Leandro, did you use key commands for your original collage video? That camera seemed to be moving much slower than the standard fly-by-wire speed that I've been experiencing during demo playback.

I'll be there if I can.
And, anyone who is going to this, please /demorecord some epic battles. I'll be needing footage, and I bet someone else who enjoys integrating instances into a single video will too. -
Quote:Maybe you didn't realize what we were referring to.Actually, quite the opposite has been true. Most people in random areas of the web assume that it is all ONE instance. Mostly because they don't know how instancing works, zone caps, etc. - they also tend not to understand about how accounts work, how only one character per account can be on at once, etc - it's assumed that people represent one on one, to their online avatar. If you read some of the comments in places where the Heroes video has been shown, they uniformly don't comprehend that it's a composite image. They DO, however, understand "wow that is a LOT of people willing to try saving the game".
In AP33 for the past day and a half roughly, there is a whole crowd of characters in one corner of the steps, all wearing the same red-shirted costume, and all bearing a name that is some variation of "Ensign Redshirt" -
I was wondering about the redshirts tbh. I'm not sure how others have seen it, but I couldn't tell if it was meant to be a mockery or not.
#1, Anyone who sees it is going to assume that it's all one player with all those characters, which to anyone at NC, will probably just look like "padding."
#2, the use of the phrase, "redshirt ensign" is NOT the kind of message we want to be sending. Redshirts are the quintessential cannon fodder throughout Nerddom, whether you're a Trek fan or not, so seeing them on the steps of a Vigil meant to save us from 'death' feels backward. So is is it trolling the campaign or not?
And in case anyone has been wondering, aside from sending a message to anyone in the companies who can see the server stats or load in and poke around, or maybe the news media, the continued Vigil IS still creating awareness among the players, especially some who have probably just come back to the game due to news of the shutdown.

OK, first, the demo recordings. Specifically what I'm looking for is demo recordings of the torch bearers in Atlas Park instances 25 - 32. All the others I already have.
For the audio, what I'm trying to find is mainly the first hour of the broadcast during the "official" start of the rally, including the dev lookalike costume contest. I've already checked with The Cape and they don't have it, since the audio was lost in mid-stream to a BSoD. But there are whispers that a listener at the rally was recording it, and I'm hoping that person is on the forums. -
Buy a copy of a game version that you don't already own and use the serial code. It'll upgrade you back to VIP status. (it must be a version of the game you've never entered a code for. 2 different codes from the same game version will NOT work)
City of Heroes
Collector's Edition
City of Villains
Good Versus Evil Edition
Architect Edition
Going Rogue
I got Rogue from Amazon for $7.
Alternatively you can also use an NC gamecard, if you can find one. -
It worked afterward. It just took a while before the login server got the memo, I guess.
-
Edit: LOL nevermind. Guess it just took a half hour to update everything. All is upgraded now.

Leandro, now that we've seen a sufficient display of your power, would you kindly lift your pinky finger and teleport the CoX servers away from NC and into friendlier hands? Oh, and a sandwich, can you do that too?
J/K, beautiful work. Thou art a coding wizard! -
Or... until server restart anyway.
This was just taken.
-
V_MK2, if you're online right now, get to AP33 now. It looks like Day 1 of the rally all over again.
-
LOL hostile? What the heck is hostile about it? Is there some underground smear campaign that I'm not aware of?
-
Does anyone have a link to the video log of the rally? I heard that one was recorded on Twitch TV with audio from The Cape, but I can't find it.
