  1. Nothing new from official support, but here's what I've uncovered.
after all the DNS and ipconfig tricks possible, rebooting router and modem,
After checking LSPs for corruption and resetting my winsocks (XP has a self heal feature),
I can't find anything on my system that's causing it.

Then I used NSlookup Query Tool online (enc.com.au/itools/nslookup.php)
It found 3 name servers for cityofheroes.com. I ran ping and tracert to each and timed out once at
    68.86.89.58 (pccwbtn)
    And twice at
    4.69.145.132 (Level3)

I am now going to run duplicate ping and tracert on a computer on the network which has access and compare results.

The only difference between my PC that can't load the site and the other devices connected to the home network is the PC is wired while everything else is wireless. However the router has no blocking or denial settings enabled.
  2. http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=251161

Same basic problem. one computer can't access, others on the same network can. I can ping and tracert the site(s), but not load them up in any browser. Ipconfig /flushDNS did not work.

Gone through all the trouble shooting steps in trying to figure out why but have not produce any results in regards to a virus, spy ware, or malware. Which is leading me to believe that the issue at hand is not on our side. Though it does make one wonder if they are able to block by MAC address(but that is a little far fetched). But it appears we will not get any answers or information regarding the issue until the people who handle this type of issue can tell the difference between a hole in the ground and their rears.
Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what's going on with me. I've already started a tech support ticket, and ran the GameAdvisor to diagnose connections. It's like the MAC is blocked for HTTP but not PING
  4. Well I've tried everything. Uninstalled Zone Alarm, flushed DNS, uninstalled AVG, turned off Spybot's Teatimer, renewed IP, Restarted IPSec, refreshed DHCP... And I still can't access cityofheroes.com from my normal PC. (I'm on another laptop, on the same home network, to access the forum.)

    2. Type in "ipconfig /flushdns" (without the " ")
See if that helps. If that fails, the next thing to try is:

    1. Uninstall ZoneAlarm. I've seen more problems with ZA going haywire than I care to admit. ZA is, at best, an okay product WHEN IT WORKS. The rest of the time it's just one gigantic, resource-sucking nuisance. Revert back to the Windows Firewall.
I'll try the DNS flush tomorrow, but wouldn't ZA append the block to its log regardless? Wouldn't it block the ping and tracert attempts if its blocking the site's IP or a hub's? I also manually appended my hosts file to no avail. I also attempted to load the site using an OpenDNS DNS instead of Comcasts, also to no avail. Hope you're right, cuz weird one-sided problems like this drive me batty.
  6. I've posted this question to NC in multiple ways, but in trying to self resolve it fast. I can't access any part of cityofheroes.com from my PC, at all. I'm accessing the forums by cell phone on my home wifi right now. I've tried all my browsers (chrome, Firefox, IE) and checked everything that could block a single site (spybot, avast, peer guardian, superantispyware, malwarebytes, zone alarm) but none show a block on their logs. I can tracert and ping the site successfully. I tried accessing by going to the ip address of tge site but that failed too. So its not the network, the ISP, or the DNS.

My ISP is Comcast, but I could also access the site (poorly) via kproxy.. and my router has no blocked sites. Windows firewall is also off. Any ideas?
  7. Yet once again, I can't verifying image thru the COH updater. I did nothing unusual this time around, and now it's ****ing up YET again after a major patch. I was patient before, but now this is driving me absolutely insane with frustration. Every time I load up the COHupdater now it tries to Verify Image, but crashes/closes seconds later. I had left it running overnight last night to install the i19 patch as I slept, and when I got back to it the next evening it had a prompt of "Error opening [directory]/tempfile... may be out of disk space or... insufficient permissions," but neither of those conditions were true, and that's EXACTLY what happened when i18 came out and I had to completely uninstall and reinstall. My live folder and my test folder.

I'm running Windows XP Home SP3, 2.8 gigs of RAM, over 50GB of free space on the HDD partition, and nothing else running.

Last time the only "fix" was to uninstall and reinstall the entire game (as in, a completely fresh install). This is unacceptable, and not a "fix" at all when it happens every patch.

It's the same error I had before, and I'm getting very sick of spending days to reinstall everything within the FEW hours I get to myself every night. Stuff like this is makes me want to finally quit the game entirely. And it doesn't help that I hardly got any help at all last time this happened. "Do over," is not a repair.

    Here's the log:

Deleting the checksum file and running updater again does not stop it from crashing when it goes to verify image after completing the checksum and fixing files.

Update #2, After going through all 3 folders I have for COH, live & test & beta, the beta version worked while live and test continued to crash at Verification, even though all 3 were running on the same version. I didn't do anything else but decided to try loading the COHupdater (for live) one last time before quitting on it all together for the night... and suddenly it stopped cocking up and now works. Without explaination. I closed that and loaded up the test and beta folder versions again (individually) and they also were working fine. I don't know wtf happened that they're loading up fine now, but needless to say this is a very frustrating situation if it keeps happening, not knowing when I'll be able to run the game or not. The only reason I'm not "overtly infuriated" is that with my schedule I'm not missing much in game anyway, just playtime that I pay for.
  8. yes, but theOcho's announcement says official Open Beta of i19 is on the beta server. (that's with a -beta instead of a -test)

Sorry, meant to type that the UNinstaller was used, which would have removed the registry values. Anyways, that part's not an issue anymore, because I got the game running back like normal.

Now, i just REALLY want to know the why for all this to happen. That bugs me more than having to completely reinstall the game. WHY would this happen in the first place when it shouldn't have? Any techie's wanna try banging their heads up against that one?

But the installer was used, so the registry keys should have been removed. Anyway, that wasn't what caused that. It was that the directory it wanted to make (e.g. E:\Programs\City of Heroes\City of Heroes) already existed and the installer/patcher didn't know how to just make it work with that.

also, UPDATE: the last thing I tried has worked, the patcher runs without crashing. I'm afraid to even try to force file verification right now. All I can think is that it was some sort of corrupt PIGG file

Everything else aside, WHY would all this suddenly happen after trying to run along-side Steam?
  11. Update: I've tried the "fix" from another thread, the one where you Copy the PIGGs folder, uninstall COH, reinstall COH, then paste the PIGGs folder back in and run patcher.

It keeps crashing every time it tries to Verify Image

I've deleted the PIGGs folder this time and am letting it reload them through the patcher.

STRANGELY, when I tried the copy/uninstall/reinstall/paste trick with the PIGGs and CohUpdater.exe, it FORCED installation to the C drive (instead of the separate partition I want my programs on) and THAT loaded fine! When the prompt came up to select a different location to install, I pointed it to where I wanted it (a folder already created) and it came back saying No. Re-ran it and it didn't even prompt, just went ahead to installing in C. I can't have it running on the main drive, there's just enough space in the partition for Windows and a few other core programs.

If I come back from work later to find that my latest attempt is working, then the problem must be a corrupted PIGG file. That corrupted after trying to run CohUpdater while Steam was going full steam (pardon the pun). If it doesn't work, then I have NO clue what else to do, because I've just done the equivalent of a complete uninstall/reinstall.

Has *anyone* had issues with COH after working with Steam?
  12. rapidshare (no password protection for free ones, i believe)
    image shack

or you can make a virtual LAN with Hamachi, requires all your parties to install the client, you'll be taking your computer security into your own hands with it.
  13. I rarely have crash issues with COH at all, and when I did it was usually something very easy to fix. That said, this latest series of crashes is driving me insane.

It started as I tried to run the COHupdater (patcher) while Steam was running and downloading 3 separate games. Internet choking aside, my computer should/would be able to handle all the processes going at once. But as the Updater connected and was checking the version, it crashed. "Report/Don't Report to Microsoft" prompted. I figured it was just the updaters clashing heads over shared resources, so I put COH aside and left Steam to download and install overnight.

Fast-forward to the next night (today), and I turned off Steam, made sure the process was not still running in the background, and restarted COHupdater. It connected and started to verify files, then crashed again.

I've tried deleting the checksum files and it still crashed. Transferring the COHupdater.exe along with PIGG folder to a new location and executed the copied COHupdater, and it still crashed. Now I've made a new directory and downloaded the client from my NC account page, and am in the process of installing a new version to the new folder.

From what I can understand of the error log, the error is an Access Violation of the COHupdater.exe file. "EXCEPTION: 0xC0000005 at address: 0x0041A5E6: ACCESS VIOLATION write attempt to address 0x238EDC36"

Why did Steam/Dead Rising 2/Left for Dead/2 pooch-screw me like this?? Is there anything else I'm missing here? This is seriously annoying the @#$% outta me. And I have to wait overnight just to find out if this last attempt even does anything.

Info/Specs: Windows XP Home SP3 32-bit, Intel Core 2 Duo 3GHz, DX 9.0c, >2 GB RAM, plenty of hard drive space, installed on a separate physical memory from Windows directory. (None of these things have changed and the game & updater were working perfectly well 2 weeks ago when I last played)
  14. I was wondering, since these latest Booster sets seem to be MUCH flashier than some of the earlier three, is there any chance the past 3 will get edits later on? I doubt that the costumes already implemented would be changed (since people would QQ that they bought it specifically as-is) so this is more of a request to see Super Booster content added to existing Boosters, later on.

I would like to formally request that more Booster-exclusive content be added to the pre-existing Super Boosters, although much farther down the production line.

    Humble Suggestions:
glowing Technology/Science armors (would be more "ordered" looking than mutant ones), maybe Magic too (would be somewhere between mutant and tech). Can't imagine how a Natural one would work out though (probably not at all).
origin-specific backpacks (when backpacks are eventually installed into the core game).
    more origin-specific-booster weapon skins.
more origin-specific-booster tails, and maybe "tight" or "tights with skin" costume skins.
more booster pack wing skins (specifically I want to see a "fixed wing" design of Tech wings).
more "unhuman" heads. Not just "Monstrous" heads but also non-normal faces and full helmets. (for instance, I'm dying to see a anthropomorphic turtle but there's nothing to mimic the beak of one).

(this is where the list turns into more of a "christmas wishlist"... I'm still putting the ideas out to whoever will listen/read them)

A new booster pack specific to Hero & Villain Epic Archetypes (a kheldian booster power would hopefully work through transformations, while a VEAT booster power would be useful regardless of the career path taken).

A "one-size-fits-all-origins" 'micro Booster' that has less-shiny options but options that fit multiple origins (like a Booster pack of wings, different sorts of wings for various origins, but not much else).

In fact, i think $5 "micro boosters" could sell better than the current $10 boosters, depending on what was put in them. For instance, a $5 booster that only unlocked the emotes from the various $10 boosters.

Just some ideas to chew on. Constructive feedback only, please. (translation: please no QQ here)

    Funny.

But no, really, were they always unavailable? I don't use Huge models too often so I wouldn't notice if this is an old known restriction or a new missing costume piece
  17. and was "Tribal thorns" belt always missing from Huge models before?
  18. would just be nice if we had some type of ETA on the smaller bugs getting fixed.
  19. Yeah, I'm bumping this back up. Not having my braided buns is getting annoying. Same for the other pieces that have been missing since i17 went live.
  20. I'll note that I *STILL* can't regain access to several of the Natural Booster costume options, chief among them being the hair styles on either models. It's getting annoying.
  21. this TOTALLY makes up for being transfer-less over the week!
