I've rolled up a Dual Pistols. Looking for synergies in the secondaries, I found some, but not a huge amount. It seems like most of the DP powers are useful, so I decided to pick up Nrg, and ignore the blapper side of it.
My plan is to pick all the assist powers - Build Up, Boost Range, Conserve Energy, and, most importantly, Power Boost.
Have people tried that? Will it work out? It seems like Build Up early on removes the "I feel like a weakling" complaints, Boost Range and Conserve Energy will make a difference by giving bigger cones/spheres, and then I *hope* Power Boost makes the Ammos better.... -
This sounds very very familiar to me, as an AR blaster. DP gets the different damage types, so it gets around the S/L issue, but still seems to be slightly underpowered, plus it has redraw. Still, just like AR, I love using it.
An as an aside, I have to say that, coming back to CoH after two years, seeing this in a sig made me laugh:
Cascade, level 50 Blaster (NRG/NRG since before it was cool) -
Bump!
Any thoughts on this post-ED? Obviously some slots open up in Hasten, and slots change in your damage, but anything big shifted? -
*bump*
Hmmm. This gotten me thinking about retiring my poor mid-level AR/Dev until things change, and putting together an AR/Nrg instead. I'm missing Build Up, I'm missing a blap, and Boost Range sounds just spiffy. Hmmmmm.
Why do you take swift first, though? I'd think you'd want to pick up Hasten quickly, and leave the small speed boost from swift for later.... -
A couple thoughts:
Definitely do Firebreath, then fireball. Firebreath is a lot less forgiving than fireball, and it has a long animation. If you do Breath first, you're very very likely to get most of your targets, and you'll get a second or two before they aggro. Then you follow with ball, and most fall down. If you fireball, then firebreath, you're gonna get unlucky, and hit the one guy that's charging your tank, and spend the full power on just him.
I didn't take flares, but I'm fire/nrg, and there are some nice nrg options. One thing I considered, though, was flares + a few range enhancers. It seems to be a consensus that pulling with the lowest damage attacks is the best, and flares is one of the smallest ones out there. Get it extended a bit, and I think you've got a psuedo snipe. I haven't tested that, though - it's all theory. -
Good summary!
The only thing I'd add is to stand at the end of the line when you join a costume contest. It's usually fairly obvious who is and isn't in the contest. Trying to fit yourself in between two people in the middle is going to annoy those people, the people next to them if they shift to let you in, the judges, and probably random people in another zone.
There's a line of people. At some point, there are no more people. Put yourself there, and voila, you're in line! -
I'm glad you haven't seen overt sexuality win, Gemini. I seem to see about half go to the biggest chested, least dressed toon, and half to people with actual costumes....

5 stars for humor, 1 for actual info.

Woo!
I've been playing the game 4 months. I've been 2nd place in 2 contests, and gotten about 500k influence in "Hey, sorry you didn't win, I liked your costume though, have 50k" prizes. My wife has made about the same amount. My daughter, on her first day, entered a contest and won 100k.
Sure, there are some scams. I've been in one where it just so happened that the person that won was in the SG of the judge, and the only person that liked the costume was the judge. But more often, it's legit. And if it's a scam, you still see cool costumes.... -
A number of my friends created another all-rad supergroup, and it has been amazingly effective.
I have a smaller-scale version of the super team - my wife and I both play CoH. We both have characters that we play together, in sets. It makes it extremely handy when picking powers - our newest set hit 14 recently. I didn't have to pick up any travel powers at all - my wife has tp and tp friend. That leaves me 2 slots to pick up leadership, or medicine, or really anything I want. We also made a pair of electrical offenders that went *very* nicely together, and another set of Rads. It's impressive what even 2 rads can do with overlapping RI's and AM's. Occasionally we'd team with *another* rad, and yes, triple AM is just as WOOHOO! as you'd expect.
If you can make the logistics work, this kind of play makes CoH so much more fun.
I just keep a set of "solo/pickup" characters for when I play alone, and then my team characters for when we play together.... -
This is my nominee for best thread ever.
Not only is it *amazingly* impressive to necro something on a board as crazy as this one that's 5 months old, but it also generated an "I agree" response at that point.
I think we need to keep it alive indefinately at this point, just for history's sake.... -
This is an awesome guide.
I primarily play with my wife, in a duo, so this isn't completely applicable, but still handy. I have friends in an sg that is testing the all Rad theory of Superteams, and I've watched them in action. It's an amazingly scary sight. You think "But they're so specialized, they can't.... Oh. But those were purples, they can't.... Oh."
Good stuff!
