  1. Monday evenings are usually your best bet.
  2. Huh.... Really? Well, I guess there may be a chance that they'll give out a name change token again. I hope it's "fairly" soon then.

    Back to the Future...

It was only recently when I learned that the game was, by all rights, designed not to be beatable.
  4. Hah.... I was present during that entire spectacle. Both parties were in the wrong. And I'm sad to say that the ones who claimed to be the "true" 1337 RPers were the instigators.

I'm not sure if having an "official" server designation would make much of a difference. I'd think that if a person were to pick a server with the soul purpose of RPing, they would most likely have done their homework before choosing a shard. I remember when Star Wars Galaxies was starting up, the forums were buzzing on which server would be the unofficail RP server.

    This.

It sucks that I have to live with a mis-typed global chat name for the lifetime of the game -- assuming we don't get another free token a la AE Issue. I just fear that I'll never have another opportunity to correct the mistake, short of cancelling my account and creating a whole new one. Of course that's silly, since I'll lose all my vet rewards.

The once-a-year flag is a very good idea. Although this is a feature I'm willing to pay for to support development.
  6. Thank you so much for that. You've been a big help.

You'd think with a game called "City of Heroes", the mayor would be a little more involved in the storytelling. :/
  7. I used my free ticket to change my global, and I screwed it up... So just throwing the idea out there to extend the option of purchasing player name changes to including your global name as well... Just . . . throwin' it out there. Right there on the table.

*descreetly slides the idea across the table top*
  8. I'm doing some research for an interactive RP story happening on Virtue. And while I can find some general history of former Mayor Spanky Rabinowitz, I'd like to know who the current mayor of Paragon is; and if there's any further information on him/her I can read to further educate myself.
  9. I don't know. I've just begun to really discover AE. It's a little more limited than I initially preferred, but there's ample opportunity to tell an interesting story.

I just got my first 50 a few weeks ago. And not that I've explored every facet of the original game yet, by any stretch (only 150 badges...), but I've begun to consider what the future of my character means in the form of experiencing content. I've heard that this game is a bit light on end-game stuff (though I'm dying to make a run in the Shadow Shard at some point...) But as of right now, for me, there's little point in "growing" my character in all of these ultimate ways. Example: running Task Forces and farms in order to get purple recipes, loot, and what-not in order to enhance my powers by single-digit percentages. That's not fun to me.

What *is* fun is experiencing story. And City of Heroes has a surprising amount of lore to get into. I mean, most of my single-player purchases will ride on whether or not the story of a game is good. And it's usually a deal-breaker if the story is blah. AE not only gives me the chance to craft my own -- 'cause let's face it, "I can do better!" >_> But I get a real kick out of experiencing the creative sides of my fellow peers. I've always thought from the beginning, that was the point of AE. To proliferate creativity.

I mean, for the first time, I was able to bring some of my character concepts truly to life and express it in missions I can actively participate in. That's awesome. And that's why AE will never really be dead to me so long as this game is active.

I think the only issue I had with AE was how much of the creative content was locked away when I started. I'll fully admit to joining a total of two boss farms just so I can have my canvas fully open and leave me to my maximum creative potential.
  10. Are you sure you really want that kind of attention? O_o
  11. So it’s your bio that directly entices the psionic vultures? I frequent Pocket D pretty regularly, and never once has anyone tried to probe my mind – or even asked to.

Then again, my bio is basically an origin story in one thousand characters. I’ve been told it’s very well-written, but I can’t help but think it sheds little light about the insights of the character. At one point, I found myself torn to re-do it in a more traditional stats-based “public file” style bio. But personally, I find those a less interesting when compared to an actual story.
  12. Very intriguing information. Thank you, guys. I had no idea that some of these guys really go that far . . . in a game that we all pay monthly to play… Yeesh. If they define “fun” by berating, insulting, and forcing their omnipotence upon others, I’d hate to be around them personally.

And now that you’ve spelt it that way, I do recall one incident last year in the Ski Chalet. My female main was sitting in the lodge, minding her own business, when this zombie-looking fellow appeared. He sent me a tell, saying something to the effect of: “You shiver as you gather a whiff of pheromones as he passes by” – and then he slowly shuffles past me.

Annoyed that he didn’t ask of my participation, I emoted a sneeze and mumbled something about people needing to bathe properly. He stared at me for about ten seconds and scampered elsewhere.

I believe that’s the extent of my experience with these individuals, though. Never been mind-probed, harassed, or otherwise talked-down to by a “god-like” presence. Yet. Now that I’m prepared with this knowledge, that next encounter should be fairly entertaining.

As for the “mental shield” disclaimers… I do see far more of that than what I originally posted. Every other character with a bio seems exceptionally well-shielded from mental attacks. With my main character, he has a “normal” costume and a powered-up version of it. I’ve always thought that if I was “special” enough to be singled out for a mental assault, I’d make him cooperative to the point where he’s allowed to power up, and all psychic control ceases. I thought I’d at least give the mental barrier a little flavor, yet allow for some vulnerability, rather than just stating flat-out, “My toon will pwn3 yer mindz if you try with yer probez….”
  13. I've been with this game for a couple of years now. And it's really only fairly recently that I've taken an active role in doing some roleplaying. I still haven't found any consistant circle to roleplay with, but I'm slowly building a relationship here and a relationship there.

Anyhoo, I've gotten into the nasty habit of constantly reading people's bios. And on a few of them, quite disturbingly, there are disclaimors about:

    1. Promising not to use their psionic abilities to have their way with my character.

    Or...

    2. Will kill my character if I try to use my psionic abilities to seduce that character against their will.

Serious question here... Is this really problematic enough to warrant these kinds of disclaimors? Or are these people just being cute? While a couple of my characters have gotten hit-on (and quite poorly at that...) I've never come across an issue even remotely approaching mental sexual assaults.

So I have to ask... Really now?

In other words, we do NOT want players to be able to situationally change power selections.
Well if that's the case, at the very least, I want some kind of cool flashy effect while the "switch is being made". Like a prolonged ding or some-such.

But in any case, I do think it would be great -- as a hero -- to "situationally" change "load-outs", "armors", "magic rings", or however you'd like to put it. But.... I think this would be an extremely fair caveat in place of the inconvenience of running to a trainer to switch builds.
  15. I'm just happy that this is going through the pipeline. Those who are disappointed that certain powers or whatnot are not "customizable" need to realize that this is a spring board to further customization down the line. Of course, that's just an assumption on my part -- but I'd like to think of it as less of an assumption and more common sense.

They have to start somewhere before they can refine the process and really maximize the potential of a new system.

I really wanted aux pool powers to be customizable. But am I disappointed? Not in the slightest. Because I have no doubt that they will eventually incorporated once the bulk is out of the way -- of which I'm heavily looking forward to, as well.
  16. I've been dying for epic fire for scrappers for a while now. But electric melee and defense was a pleasant surprise. So hopefully, we'll get fire epics next time.
  17. Being the impressionable person that I am, I'll start using this tomorrow.
  18. I... Would... DIE.... If this was applied to costume slots, too. I'd die a happy, happy hero.
  19. Well as much as I want walking to be in the game (and I really, really do), I was joking.
  20. #1. The ability to walk!
