  1. you shouldnt have to. all i did was activate the initial install program which gives you the option to install the main program, the basic add on pak, and then down at the bottom in smaller letters the pdf writer program. shouldnt have to go through everything from scratch. i didnt.
  2. Must we flame this board??? Cant we just have a good time sharing ideas and things?

TSG, what error are you coming up with, if any? i had a problem publishing to the site but that was because i neglected to add'l install the pdf writer, which is apparently necessary to have it converted to the proper format for web publishing.
  3. ok, a bit hokey and self promoting, but can someone please give me an honest opinion on my work? id really appreciate any input, be it humoringly generous or brutally honest.

    thanx

I have my little comic half way done now, and i want to put it up on photobucket to show my friends. However, i don't know how to change the file type. Apparently you have to click "publish" in the file menu to convert the file type, but that button is greyed out for me. When i click "publish to hypercomics" it gives me an error dialogue saying that "Publishing to Hypercomis requires PDF Writer and Ghostscript to be installed. Please run hypercomics set up to install these programs."

Before i do this, i want to know:

1.) if these programs are 'safe'
2.) will this allow me to convert the files/pages of the comic to jpeg and other image formats?

    Thanks
    _D

P.S.: I cannot print, either. That button is greyed out and when i use the shortcut (ctrl+p) nothing happens. My printer doesn't even flinch. Is this related to the above problem?

[/ QUOTE ] The Publish and print buttons are greyed out for me too.

    [/ QUOTE ]

i have the publish options available, but it wont let me publish, same as it didnt for Davenport. but these other files or programs arent in the package. i opened and installed everything that was available and, while mine is primative compared to some of the others ive seen, it is mine and id like to post. so...any ideas on where these programs are or how i can convert a .cbcx file to a .pdf file without a convertor?

[edit] nvm...iom a gimp...its the last install option on the main program flash screen for installing the program.

/em colors himself a deep shade of Stipud.
  5. but isnt that why there are rules? shouldnt the rules be clearer, more defined? or perhaps the judges decision? instead of just a silly caption ("Gratz on the badge"), maybe a little bit about why this particular costume won that specific category? something that says, 'yes there were others, and maybe you the viewer would have picked them over this, but this is why we picked it'.

again, it just all seems biased to me. when i hold impromptu CCs i always lay out what im looking for: ambiant powers, bios, themes, etc. after the semi-finalists are selected i field questions about "what was wrong with my costume"(usually followed by "no bio"). likewise with the winners. in local, ill give a little bit about what i liked most about the winners overall costume(excellent color-scheme, detailed bio, great ambiant affect, etc.)

theres a lot that goes into judging, admittedly. this contest didnt seem to stick with its own parameters. Nepharim, while perhaps a cheap example, is the most pointed(personally, i would have disqualified her for a daytime screenshot and a nighttime picture, but super hella guts for wearing that outfit to begin with! now THATS Hot!!)
  6. well, to be quite frank, and in keeping with my original notion of trueness to the costume, i dont believe that cookie was overlooked as a possible winner. shes wearing a sash, and her toon does not.

i also did note that people were going off about the carnie. i agree with their assessment and their point of sticking to the rules. otherwise, it wouldnt be a "contest" so much as a general forum of pictures. what kind of contest is unruled, anyway?

clearly there has to be guidelines, rules, and bylaws applied to any contest. how could you possibly decide a winner without personal interpretation coming into it everywhere? and how do you satisfactorily win without know what to expect from the judges?

anyway, again MPO, maybe the selected winners shouldnt have been the winners. there were plenty of more qualified, more creative, more inventive, truer recreations.

    i dont get it.
  7. Just seems biased to me is all. Agreeably her costume looked fairly challenging to replicate. but then again, so did so many others. painting your entire body takes an arduous amount of time(i should know considering how much time i dedicate to my halloween costume every year for the neighborhoods entertainment). it just seems to me that, given the quality of so many, the time invested, and the dedication that the winners posted shouldnt have been the winners. MPO alone(i dont believe in humble opinion).

agree/disagree, if the topics already been covered, i believe this thread is at an end. thanx for the comments.
  8. so that was the point? difficulty of replication? if that were the case, why didnt more elaborate costumes win, such as Zand or Enchantrix or even Texstar who it appears had to make everything but the boots and hat.

the criteria doesnt match the criteria.

so, again, what makes it a true costume contest?

if anyone is unsure of what i mean, please please please go take a look at all the contestants and winners. mull it over. it was nice of you to quote from the contest page, but all you did was quote categories. you didnt quote criteria.

i do appreciate the input though.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
The contest wasnt about matching the charecter screenshot, it was about matching your charecter. Do you expect if the contenstant had sent in a pic of them in hover, they should have been hovering?

    [/ QUOTE ]

if it was about matching the character, please refer to the above mentioned flaws. then, please go take a look at the two examples i give regarding non-flawed images presented, which would include Texstar. his costume matched very very well also.

and, to answer your question: yes, if the screen shot presented that you expected to emulate was your toon in hover, than your shot should also have had you in hover. this can easily be achieved by stepping off a balcony or some similar drop and holding the pose. the effect would be captured as a still image....which is what a picture is.

    any other questions?
  10. Ok, im confused. What exactly was the point of the costume contest? Yeah yeah yeah...to make a costume and have a contest about who did good and who did great. but what was THE POINT of the contest? what were the deciding factors used and what was the criteria? as i read and understood it, it was about who had the best costume creation as it related to the character base. was i wrong? did i misread?

no, im not upset because i didnt win. i didnt even enter because of the amount of toons i currently host and no desire to try to figure out who has the best costume that id be willing to don and have pictures taken of(blessings to all of you with less than superhero-esque figures who managed to look damn damn damn good in your costumes{Texstar leaps to mind}). im more concerned with the winners and how they related directly to the total overall contestants.

take for example our overall winner, Marisa. a beautiful girl, with a creative looking character. imaginative costume and brillitant color scheme. but, look closely. there are flaws:

Legs in screenshot are crossed opposite than fan art shot.
Coloring in bottoms shows a blend of green and blue, while player costume is only green.
Shades of costume do not match in places with toon.
Screen shot is clearly at day, while fan art is clearly at night.

why am i bothering? whats the point? do i have a grudge to bear against Marisa? no, not at all. i dont even know her. nor do i know someone who received no mention at all, but who met far more closely to their character screeshot, Miss Cholera.

Now, Miss cholera does not have the elaborate color-scheme or shoulder flair, but her costume matches exactly to her screen shot.

So, again, what was the point? Is it a matter of color v. mono-tone? is it a matter of flair v. matter-of-fact? is it comic over creation?

While i am a HUGE fan of the X-Men comics since the mid 70s, i cant help but bear in mind the line from the first X-Men movie, when cyclops asked wolverine if he would prefer blue spandex to the leather outfits. its a matter of practicality. but is THAT the point??

so, i pose the question to you, judges, participants, voters, witnesses: What makes a Costume Contest a "Costume Contest"?

That was actually pretty easy to read tekkamen, and 1337 SP34K haters are probably people who prefer to roleplay instead of pvp, but they once tried it and after someone pwned them they typed 0wn3d n3wbl4r, and thats why you people think its dumb. U gotta be 1337 in order to use 1337 speak so that u dont sound like an idiot, and if you are pwned after using you are the n00b.

    [/ QUOTE ]

hmm....interesting...uh...outlook, i guess. curious though the form of attack. shouldnt it have all been done in l33t to prove your superiority? clearly, we are all the n00bs since we either dont bother with it, or dont care to get involved with people who do use it since, more often than not(and yes, this is generalized stereotyping), they have a certain aire of arrogance....much like you do.

regardless of all that and personal squabbles and whatever else, the mentioning of people who do or dont engage in the PVP aspect of the game....i fail to see the corralation(sp?). what does wether or not i play other players or spend more time playing the game as its been designed have to do with anything? and what does PVP have to do with l33t??

perhaps im just uneducated, but it really seems like a bit of a stretch to go all that way off topic just to poke at people who dont fight other players, enjoying instead to co-op play and run the designed storylines.

    color me foolish

    /em sigh......l33t!

....and I just got used to ebonics.

    [/ QUOTE ]

yeah, dont i know how that goes. i didnt mean to start this thread as an attack on anyone who uses it, but rikti freak is a good example of how l33t has really become a mainstay of our culture, and not just the gaming community. figure it all started with programmers and computer-savee(sp?) types. but its really kinda branched out like a malignant tumor and grabbed a hold of the entire internet community as a whole, weaving tendrils through message boards, online games, and blogs.

i found the wikipedia info stunningly informative..almost too much so, but was far more impressed with the fact that there really is so much information about it. a syntax and usage and what have you. it really has become something more than pig latin ever was, which was something to do as a goof. l33t has actually become its own language.

now mind you, im not attacking but im certainly not endorsing, either. i personally tend to find it rather arrogant of the people who do use it. sort of a "@r3n7 1 5o 5up3r10r 7o u!!11!!"(which took me a good 2 minutes to figure out how to type) snub. but, of course, to each there own. im sure they feel that way because they do know how to use it and use it well. much the same way i tend to feel snubbed by the people who speak fluent other languages and i always fear theyre somehow speaking about me in front of me....

wow...what the hell kind of inferiority complex do i have??

anyway, glad ppl are enjoying this thread. thanx for all the great input
  15. ok, so i see it all the time on all the boards at one time or another. this whole problem with leetspeak and how ridiculous/redundant/annoying it is. basically, i think its more bravado and personal pride that makes people use it(remember how happy you were when you could finally effectively speak pig latin?). the fact that a good majority of us dont know/understand/type leet is more a sign of the changing times and the accessibility of the internet to everyone. which of course goes right to denoting how the majority are not "Elite" so of course would NOT know l33t. those who do know it, use it, and find it insanely entertaining...well, that doesnt necessarily make you elite either. it just makes you more willing to sink the time into learning a new "language". id be just as happy learning japanese or german or something actually conversational. but thats me.

at any rate, there was a post on another thread leading to a wikipedia page. but it was about a person and i thought it might be interesting to see if wikipedia actually had a reference for l33t...and boy do they! so, for your approval/entertainment/annoyance, i submit this link, start this thread, and hope someone finds something interesting in all this mess.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet

    enjoy!

ps. also, "elite" ppl should try to bear in mind that a good portion of us newcomers are not trying to steal or use your style by attempting to use l3375p3@k.....we just cant typos...so that pk, was actually supposed to be ok....i just cant get my fingers to cooperate sometimes
  16. and, just for the record, id have put it down as a quote for all the absolutely1000%accurateamzing stuff you posted, but it wouldve taken up a whole page and honestly...we all read it....

The oly thing you forgot was to specify "say"... i.e.

/bind t "say Bity Kitty claws and scratches and begins to teleport group $target to her location.$$powexec_name Recall Friend"

    [/ QUOTE ]
actually, based on the way your planning to make your post, using "em" instead of say would be better since it will give you a thought bubble emote rather than spoken word...unless of course you commonly refer to yourself in the third person when you do speak....in which case, rock on with "say", just be wary of what chat mode youre in. using "local" "team" "or any other specific chat command will override your own chat style appearace and default you to the standard black on white. so if youre going for style...perhaps your own would be best. in which case "say" is the way to go.
As said above, it would be better to use "team" instead of "say," and you want to delete the word "group" from your message. I think you intended "group" to be your channel command, but it has to be at the front of the statement, instead of just before the variable.

If you have your toon set to "Looking for any team" don't complain about the team that invited you, or quit with no comment seconds after accepting the invitation.

    [/ QUOTE ]

actually, i do this often since along with "looking for any" i have in my search comment in nice big caps "NO HOLLOWS"....
and sure enough, being a lvl 16+ Fire/Fire tank, i get invites to the hollows all the time. at which point i promptly quit the team without a word to them because its not my fault that youve suddenly become so desperate youve become illiterate. thats why theres a comment to post.
