I considered Spring Attack too, but how do you work around the knock-back?
-
John, sorry that was a little misleading. I have other recharge bonuses, but my train of thought was to list my Alpha and the expensive IOs. But you just might be right about the recharge time, it's possible I was under the influence of a buff when I checked it.
As far as Dark Regen being an AOE, yeah it's not much of one, and aside from the nictus proc in it it's not doing a whole lot of damage, but I hit it twice a fight anyway and it fills up my green bar as a side effect. Soul Drain and Dark Consumption though are moderate damage, and they do good job of killing things. You also have to keep in mind that Soul Drain is a good damage buff of up to +70% if I remember correctly.
I would say that wasting the buff on Dark Regen is a bad thing, but I usually need it anyway. And while the procs may just be considered a waste in death shroud, I really only have to fight bosses after that 1-2-3.5 AOE on /x5. Well bosses and runners because stuns are silly and CoF isn't slotted enough.
I'm not trying to say that DM is the AOE king by any means, just that it does have two medium damage AOE powers and they both have significantly awesome side benefits. Every 15 seconds? No. But you can get SD almost permanent and DC up around 45s or so, and that's not too shabby. -
Same here Bella, on all points. I already have T4 Agility, T3 Interface and I have very few problems with the blue bar. That's running all the DA toggles except OG, and running CJ, acrobatics, Maneuvers and Focused accuracy.
I probably do need to post my build here so I can get some help tweaking it, but I have so much fun on this scrapper that it has almost completely killed my alt-itis.
And back to AOE, with 2 procs in death shroud and Interface, it is a monster. I'm seriously considering adding a 3rd proc. I use dark regen and dark con as AOE attacks too. With agility, 2 Lotgs and hasten, Dark regen is up every 7 seconds.
I do struggle on Itrials though, but I attribute most of that to lag and not doing a better job on def/res and max HP. -
As a returning player, I'll throw my 2 cents in...
My Dm/Da was only level 39 when I returned and I have to say that I struggled. Thankfully though, with some helpful players, some helpful guides and some effort, I found that most of the difficulty was re-learning how to play.
I have some issues with players that tend to judge a set by itself, and both DM and DA get this treatment a lot it seems.
But the short answer to your question is yes. It is a good combo at 50.
As far as Aoe, I play +0/x5 regularly on a build I have only put a few 100mil into and I do fine. I jump right into the middle of the spawn with death shroud proc'ing, hit soul transfer, hit dark regen, dark cons, and then single target the few that are left with DA's not to shabby ST chain.
I improve my IOs and my build, and my incarnates and slowly increase the diff. But as it stands right now, with approx 20% Def and 30% resists, I can easily see myself running x8 as a regular setting by the time I'm done.
EDIT: I meant Soul Drain and not Soul Transfer up there, but it makes me wonder if Soul Transfer works like Howling Twilight. If it does, then I might respec into it and drop Shadow Punch or Smite. That would really work to further round out the AOE power of this combo... -
A long time ago, in a game far, far away...
The DM/DA Scrapper seemed to be at the forefront of the Def Vs. Res debate. Before real numbers and IOs and Incarnate powers, some very determined player would join a level 40 group and fight some Malta without fear of Sappers, Rikti? Cake. Carnies? Stale Cake because they're a little tougher to chew through.
That determined player suffered without Stamina till level 20! Usually giving up the quality of life an early travel power gives, and struggled simply to define what Resistance was all about. It wasn't futile!
So Now I'm lost. I'm 50, I've done the incarnate thing. I've died. Alot. People keep telling me to cap defense, and I'm thinking to myself... Can you actually play the game blind, cause my info says DM/DA what are you talking about Defense? hah! Crack smoking hippies what do they know?
Apparently the Res Vs. Def battle is over and Defense won. Why didn't I get the memo? Someone fire Jim in the mailroom...
So anyway... I broke out MIDs and I gave it a shot... I failed miserably. Then I tried again. I failed that time too. But I'm a trooper, so I read a guide on building with MIDs and then I made the most wonderfully failerrific build EVER! I'm not sure you can even soft-cap on DM/DA... Not without giving up too much of what makes it... Dark...
So if you capped defense, would you even be able to hit anything? And if you did, would you hit like an emp defender? I mean I can 6 slot every mule power I can think of and at the end, I just don't get it and then my good powers are short slotted and barely missing ED with frankenslotting
The strange thing is, while I'm not doing +4x8 missions, I am doing +1x4 at the most and I'm doing ok with 12% defense and 40-50% resists all around. I chew some purples, but it's either purples or blues you can't have your stale cake and eat it too can you? And if that's possible can you also have a side of pie?
So I guess the question is... What DO you build for in an endurance heavy, Defense light, resistance based combo like DM/DA? And how do you not short-slot yourself in the process? -
I just respecc'ed my DM/DA Scrapper last night with "Agility" Alpha in mind. He's only level 45 right now and I was handling endurance very well well until the respec. Now with 3 toggles I did not have. I'm hoping some frankenslotting and getting Agility will help with the new endurance woes.
I left out the current IO slotting, it was nothing fancy and any suggestions on slotting to hit res caps or (if possible with DM/DA) defense caps, health caps, any caps (lol) would be greatly appreciated. For the purposes of something to "strive for", money is not an issue.
But primarily, I want to get my endurance back under control while still utilizing my new toggles.
I've read somewhere that I can get away with dropping toggles based on what I'm fighting, I'm just not sure what benefits if any I lose by doing that.
Anyway, here is the mids build, I don't know how to get it to display the level by level readable build...

I did the same exact thing minus the ludites. Got my first field crafter 2 days ago, and spent over 40mill on the last 10 badges. Left out a category yelled at my monitor and almost cried in frustration.
On the upside I also had enough cash thanks to this frum, that I finished IO'ing my DM/DA -the purples and a few rares (only 45 right now). I'm broke now, but I can farm waay faster -
That's not all you can get out of a personal base... But I stayed that size for quite a while. Instead of slowly upgrading, I waited till I had enough prestige to make some major improvements before editing.
In the last month, I went to 2x3 and 3x3 power and control (I think those are the room sizes). From 4 teleporters to 8 teleporters in the 5x5 room. Added 2 more enhancement tables for lower level IO's for alts, and another inspiration bin. Had to upgrade to the 12x12 plot, but that was also part of the plan.
One good thing about it being personal, is I can design it how I want it. My kids play, but just like me, while the base serves more of a transport and storage function, the biggest thing for all of us, is the cool factor. Slowly but surely, it's becomming a huge maze with hidden rooms etc...
Still from a functionality stand point, I've made it fairly straight forward getting to the neccessities like teleporters, the control room and the crafting room.
But some things you could add in the short term....
Personal Vault - It really is a convenience sometimes, but easy to live without.
Empowerment stations - Recharge and recovery buffs, while minimal really do help out for alts pre-stamina, and the smashing/Lethal resistance, who wouldn't want that on a lowly fledgling blaster? They are under-hyped mostly because everyone has level 50's and even more so now that 1-20 can be reached in an afternoon, but I still level my Alt's the old fashioned way doing contact missions and the buffs I think were meant for lower levels. I keep 4 Salvage bins stocked with the right salvage for the buffs I like to use. There's even status protection for those scrappers without it and the buffs last for an hour, great for soloing.
Go for the healing badges to get the inspiration dispensers. -
Yeah, there are about 5 or 6 desks that stack very nicely, and only the rustic one is even remotely arcane looking.
Some of them would work out okay if I changed the lighting, but I really kinda like the lighting and colors that I have. -
I think I tried them and they were too small, I'm gonna be doing this to every room, and even unfinished, the entrance room already has about 150+ items. Probably be 250-300 when I'm done.
Although I was just looking through the sewer base thread and the uneven stacking of the arcane blocks to make the base entrance will fit nicely with my concept. So I'm going to use the same blocks, I'm just going to stack them unevenly to make it look broken.
Anyone know if there are any actual broken blocks that are still somewhat brick looking and not a pile of rubble? -
So, there are almost no stackable Arcane legos. Got half a dozen or more tech stackable legos, and they even stack perpendicular without gaps. NONE of the arcane legos that I've found can stack perpendicular without gaps, and they don't fit well either.
Longways, they fit perfectly from one edge of a grid square to the other, but side to side, they leave a half a block gap.
Still I've been working my butt off with the tools given, and here is the start of my base, the goal is a maze like base with small corridors, hidden rooms, etc...

There will be a wall, and the portal room will be enclosed, stairs leading down will conceal the room below.

I haven't started decorating yet, so it's a bit bare.

No stairs yet, but the downstairs room will be walled off, and I may or may not add stairs to the rez room, it's kind of a one-way room, but still.

I've added two lamps in here for light, but otherwise, the entire base was built for function and there is very little decoration... yet.
Unfinished wall/door from portal room

The wall will go all the way up top and enclose the portal room as well, with a small door and a set of stairs, using the same blocks probably. -
Since I have a 50 def that doesn't need a lot of sets or an expensive build, I thought I would spend my cash on a new character, and not just a level 50 build, but twink from level 30 and up since he won't be AE farming...
Now, I'm missing a few IO's I need, but I'm not overly concerned about that, as I have most of them for level 30. I wanted to rebuild at 35 and 40 though (I know a few % usually doesn't make much difference, but I also have to fill out the newly installed slots, and what else am I going to do with the money? I'll wait till I get 50 and purple him out.
In the meantime, I tried ticket rolls, but for 30-50 recipies, I just end up with a level 50 one, not what I want. If I hunt/fight, I end up with 50's.
Is it easier to get what you want at the right level with merits?
WW's is where I got most of mine, but I found myself paying top dollar for some just to "Snag the last one", others I had to get at 31-34 instead of 30 which is ok, but level 35 - 45 options are even more limited in what is available on WW's. I didn't have enough slots to bid for everything I wanted, but I did fill out my market slots on 2 chars.
Is there a better way? Are the low level, high end recipies allways in such short supply? I'm not talking about LOTG short supply where there always seems to be stock for those willing to pay, I'm talking about 10-40 bidding, 0-1 for sale.
Any suggestions? -
Thanks Cuuth, that's exactly what I was looking for. Didn't realize they would all be listed on the wiki.
-
My daughter has been bugging me for a week to "Fight Skeletons!" and I finally found skeletons (Banished Pantheon, close enough), but I cannot find a graveyard map and I know I've seen one!
Any help? -
@Saint,
I think that is probably the most appropriate quote ever directed towards COH. -
I'm a casual player, and a casual poster as well. By the time I get to one of the "X feature is ruining the game threads" It's already 7 or 8 pages deep and there's really no sense in posting because only the fanatics and trolls are still reading/posting. So I've decided to get ahead of the game.
Power Customization is ruining the game!
Now that you can customize powers, people are rolling a bunch of alts, playing powersets they never played because of thematic reasons. All of these alts are boss farming in AE gaining more inf than I can gain as a casual player, and driving up market prices by IO'ing all of their new found powers!
And because they are all farming I have no one to TF with. Not because I would TF with them, but because all of the other like minded individuals who would normally TF with me are too busy being lame on the forums and still posting after 7 or 8 pages.
Not only that, but yellow Fortituted and Pink fire are clashing with my outfit! Don't the Dev's know that I've only got 5 costume slots and I've already put my costumes together based on the existing power set color pallete? What were they thinking?
What I think would fix this, is to put a cap on the selling/buying price at the market. 2 Billion Inf would be fair for everyone and then no one can sell anything for over that cap. Eventually everything will be the same price and then I can complain that a level 15 accuracy IO costs the same as an Armageddon.
If you don't agree with me, you're wrong.
TL;DR version: Issue2 ruined the game because it eventually led to Issue 16 and we should all go back to I1 and have fun again, the hard way, like God Intended when he invented COH.
P.S. IBTI -
Thanks for the quick answers Reyne, I got OG, but guess I should slot more accuracy in it, I slotted it for a set bonus.
-
I'm running a Dark/Dark Scrapper, took Tough/Weave, and Combat Jumping, and I'm level 39. I'm currently working my build out in Mids because at level 40, I'm going to start slotting for it and I'm trying to maximize what I get out of my slots. So, I have some questions...
1. Is this enough defense / Resist?
Defense:
Smash/Leth - 24.7
Energy/Neg - 19.1
Psionic - 23.5
Fire/Cold - 19.4
Melee - 29.7
Ranged - 18.5
AOE - 21
Resists:
Smash/Leth - 52.1
Energy - 23.5
Neg En - 50.1
Psionic - 56.5
Fire/Cold - 42.8/47.8
Toxic - 28.5
2. If the above is not enough, what set bonuses should I be looking for?
3. If I have a total of 60% Accuracy from set bonuses, is that approximately the same as 2 accuracy enhancements in each of my powers? Could I get away with 40% - 60% accuracy in my powers without missing all the time against reds and purples?
4. To get the above bonus, I have 5 9% accuracy bonuses and a 15% accuracy bonus, those do stack right? -

Base Repricing
1) How will the repricing of bases affect you personally?
[/ QUOTE ]
Small SG, Family only... I'll be able to make my next upgrade 225k cheaper. We currently only have about 1.2 million prestige. I had planned on never upgrading the plot and never having a full set of teleporters due to lack of room. So now, we will upgrade.
[ QUOTE ]
2) Will you dismantle your base to gain the additional prestige from the repricing?
[/ QUOTE ]
I dismantled my base when the price changes were first announced. All decorations were gone, and I will delete and replace the few rooms we have to get the price difference on them.
[ QUOTE ]
3) How long would this process take you if you were to engage in this practice?
[/ QUOTE ]
For my VERY small SG, it took a few hours to get rid of everything we had except the bare neccessities.
[ QUOTE ]
4) What are the positive and negative concerns regarding repricing?
[/ QUOTE ]
I think the negative concerns spill over into having to rebuild some items with invention salvage, although some creative individuals spent weeks worth of hours on their designing and building and if they want/need the prestige, they'll have to undo it all.
[ QUOTE ]
5) How will this feature affect you long term and short term?
[/ QUOTE ]
Short-term, it allows me to go ahead and make an upgrade that was going to still be out by a few months. Longterm, it will allow me to expand my base far beyond what I originally intended or expected to.

Base Salvage Exchange to Invention Salvage
1) What is the negative effect on your base for this feature implementation?
[/ QUOTE ]
Empowerment buffs mostly, previously, I'd stock a character with 99 Material, power, and prototype (or the arcane equivilant, and then they wouldn't worry about it for a while, get buffs when they needed them, etc... Now it takes more time to get the buffs, it reminds me of Asheron's Call in the early days, 45 minutes of buffing, 15 minutes of fighting, rinse and repeat.
Now, instead of running into the base, hitting the station, clicking 5 or 6 times and running out, I'll have to go to multiple salvage bins, hope my personal inventory has enough room for buff salvage, grab my grocery list, run over to the station buff, and then run out. It's unneccessary micro-management that shouldn't be neccessary.
[ QUOTE ]
2) What is the positive effect on your base for this feature implementation?
[/ QUOTE ]
My characters can now more easily share and store invention salvage, which will mostly be used for empowerment buffs.
[ QUOTE ]
3) How long will it take you to adjust to learning this new system?
[/ QUOTE ]
Me? It's as good as learned. My Wife? I'll have to make her a list for her buffs.
[ QUOTE ]
4) What side effects to this system do you currently see from transitioning the old to new system?
[/ QUOTE ]
Using the empowerment stations will be a gigantic pain that cannot easily be prepared for. I may stop using them all together.
[ QUOTE ]
5) What security concerns do you have regarding this change?
[/ QUOTE ]
None, I'm related to every character that could steal from me, but I do understand that items used for individual purposes being stored in open containers are likely to get taken if they have any value whatsoever.
[ QUOTE ]
Additional Notes:
[/ QUOTE ]
Why not have intermediate salvage? What is wrong with it? I understood getting rid of base salvage, but there were already conversion recipies in place to convert invention salve into COMPONENTS, that could then be used to create base items, and empowerment buffs. Why get rid of that system just because you get rid of base salvage? It would have accomplished things along the same lines.
Now the empowerment stations just became complicated. Every few weeks I'd have to gather base salvage, and go through the list of recipies, 1000 clicks later, I've got a couple salvage racks full of components. Stock up 99 per character, for quick easy buffing, and off we go for another few weeks.
Now EVERY SINGLE BUFF SESSION is going to be the long drawn out process of what buffs do I need? Which salvage do I need for those? Which bins are they in, can I carry it all? NO, I have to get these 3 buffs and then come back, get some more salvage, get those 3 buffs, back to the racks, etc... until I have all the buffs I want. When I think about playing with all 3 of us, we'll have to stand in line and it just gets worse instead of just going to seperate buffing stations and being done with it. -
The thing I'd like to see most, is the multi-level bases, made possible by Z-Axis control.
And I'm surprised no ones mentioned - Craftable Base Teleport temp power. Could be made by empowerment station. Lets you Teleport to base from anywhere.
