Open the Launcher, but don't start the game. Right-click on City of Heroes and select Repair (Consistency Check). That does what the Verify Files used to do.

Quote:That isn't what you said in your first post.???
There are two incompatible objectives interfering with each other. One of them makes the other impossible to complete, which means no badge.
Quote:The "Find Lawrence Harken" mission from Roy Cooling gives the player a chance to earn the No One Left Behind badge by saving all of the Injured Rogue PPD members while the building is burning.
However, I've heard reports of people saving them all and not getting the badge, so I went along with one such person to investigate.
What I found was that the NPC enemies guarding Harken himself will attack and defeat any Injured Rogue PPD who happen to spawn nearby! I was able to click the sprawled corpse and tell him to get out of the building, which successfully earned the badge for my teammate.
That oughtta put to rest this long-running anomaly. And it shouldn't be too hard to fix either.
You only earn badges if you complete the objectives, which you did by clicking the corpse. You got the badge for the teammate.
It's either impossible to complete or it isn't. You proved it isn't impossible, but you later say it is and completely contradict yourself. Badges often have difficult objectives in order to earn them. This one is difficult but not impossible.
Still seems to be WAI to me. -

Quote:Nowhere did I mention a Dev response. Tex's post that I quoted didn't mention it either.
T_J: I didn't expect any Dev response in here. I know better. I was just seeing if anyone had experienced this and maybe had a quick fix I had overlooked. I knew tech support would want me to do the reinstall first, so I didn't want to contact them until after I had tried it. -
I'll just quote what Tex has posted in other threads.

Quote:Um. This IS what they've been saying since Day 1. Perhaps you missed Zwillinger's post?
This I like. This is the kind of message that should have been put out since day 1. That you understand and will do your best to preserve the identities we've built.
Quote:Concerns over how we will be handling account/global naming collisions are completely understandable and I sincerely apologize if you will be inconvenienced by this in a significant manner.
Please understand, we spent a lot of time reviewing possibilities and options when it came to handling accounts and globals with naming collisions. Pretty much all of the options mentioned above were discussed and weighed seriously in the decision making process. This was not an easy decision to make.
When making this decision, we had to realize that whatever solution we implemented would have to be explained to every player who ever decided to return to the game. Unfortunately a first come/first serve rule wouldn't be the easiest to explain, nor would it be the most fair to enforce. Date of account creation creates an additional collision possibility. Ultimately, we decided that the most direct, and easiest to understand method to accomplish this is to simply rename the accounts.
Again, I do understand preemptive frustration, especially if you are one of the few players actually effected by this policy. I sincerely hope that should you be effected you will view this as a minor bump in the road to creating a truly global Community.
One thing about this Dev team that I've always liked is that they DO listen to our feedback, and if an alternative is presented that can be implemented easily but that they didn't think of, they seriously consider it.
And Zwillinger made it clear on Day 1 that they had looked several options before deciding what course of action to take. If they didn't realize the importance or impact a change to logins and globals, they likely wouldn't have announced anything until they were ready to implement it. likely within a week or less of making the change. -

Con, you were part of the topic of discussion last night in Pocket D on the Beta server that I was having with Zwillinger. And then someone shouted Coooooooooooooon!! and Beastyle joined the conversation.
Miss you being around. Hope you make it back soon. -

I had a response typed but Bloodspeaker and a few others made my point so I'll just look at the first part of my signature.

Update your video card drivers from the ATI website.
It's quite possible that the newest driver for your video card will be part of the Legacy Driver package. I've seen some odd problems reported with the 10.2 Legacy Drivers and CoH. You may have better results using the 9.11 version of the Legacy Drivers.
EDIT: You may be able to use Mobility Modder to mod the current drivers to get them to install and work, but I don't have any systems with that video chipset built in to test with. -

When I first found the broken links I emailed them and he sent me a working link to the oldsoftware page. I've kept it bookmarked since.
-
My instructions were for a quick setup where CoH hasn't been installed before using files copied from another computer (be it upgrading, using a second running computer, whatever) and THEN using the NCLauncher to patch up to current and creating shortcuts.
It can be used as instructions for copying files on the same machine as well and creating a Test or Beta install before using the NCLauncher. -
Ah well. Trying to get comparisons between AC and Vegas seems to be leaving AC coming up extremely short.

Somewhat.
Although it doesn't allow you to set any of the new Ultra Mode settings since it was written before they were introduced. The last update I think was sometime in 2007.
Of course, if I were to download it today I'd get it directly from the maker not a secondary link. -
I went back to the beginning of the thread and reread your initial post, and something jumped out at me that I didn't catch before.
Quote:I'm not sure what you are referring to with the bolded part above. I've never seen any instructions with that /runbeta tag. Where did you get that from?Trying to load up Beta, I follow the beta guide (copy launcher, add the /runbeta thing to it, install) . Beta installs. But will beta run when I hit run?
I know it isn't in the instructions from the Beta forums or in the instructions on the Announcements section. I'm wondering if this is what's causing your problems. -
Quote:Interesting. I've never had the installer delete a folder when I've cancelled it. And I've used the method I listed above for a few years to get my installs copied to new computers or to computers I was using CoH as a stress test on. At least, I used all of the steps listed prior to using the new Launcher.I must really have a unique error here, I'll just file it into the "lost-cause" section of my imaginary filing cabinet.
Beta is perfectly installed, has all the files in there.. run the in-launcher "fix" assuming this would help and it did not.
I install like how you did Texas, just of course using XP instead of 7.
But, when ever I cancel the download - it deletes the whole entire folder, so I cannot do the 'minor' fixes as they are non-existent.
Thanks anyways!
Something you could try would be to start the updater as above and cancel it after a couple of minutes and THEN create the folder again and copy the contents of the other computers installation to it. It's doubtful that when you cancel the install and the folder is deleted that it's also deleting the registry entries, and that's the main thing I use the cohupdater for initially.
Of course, for me at least, if all else fails I have several installation disks (Original CoH disc, CoV disc, GvE disc, AE disc, GR disc, and at least one Bootleg Edition that I don't want to open since Ex Libris signed it) that I've gathered over the years. I can use them to do the initial installation and then copy over the files from the other computer to get the installation current. If I were to do that today on a computer I'd use the GR disc since it's the most current, but any would work. -
Quote:Heh. I'm so used to doing that on EVERY installer for Vista and 7 that I forget about it when I'm documenting things. If you're running from Windows 7 or Vista, have you tried running the launcher as administrator, and then trying to relaunch the beta from it?
Thanks for the reminder Arcanaville. I'll go edit my post. -

I purchased a new laptop last weekend and cheated to install Live, Beta and Test. Had no issues with the installs or the launcher. Here's how I did it. Please note, the new laptop is Windows 7, so there could be small differences for XP or Vista.
First, I copied over my Live, Test and Beta folders from my desktop. That took a while, even through the Gig switch and Gig connections. I set the properties for these folders to give me full permissions.
In the following steps, anytime I mention running any of the installers (even by the shortcut) it is always by right-clicking them and selecting Run As Administrator. Thanks to Arcanaville for pointing out what I left out here.
Then I copied the old updater to the desktop and created a shortcut to it on the desktop. I did this so that I wouldn't get folder permission errors when trying to run it from inside the folder it was updating. I started the old updater using that shortcut, pointed the installer to the Live folder and let it run long enough to create the registry entries and then stopped it.
I then went to the properties for that shortcut and added -test to the end of the Target line. I started from the shortcut, pointed the installer to my Test installation and let it run long enough to create the registry entries and then stopped it.
I then went back to the properties for that shortcut and changed the -test to -beta. I started from the shortcut again, pointed the installer to my Beta installation and let it run long enough to create the registry entries and then stopped it.
At this point I deleted the updater and the shortcut from the desktop. I also deleted the shortcut that the Live installation put on the desktop.
Then, I downloaded and installed the new Launcher. Once the Launcher was installed I used the shortcut it created on the desktop. It found all three directories correctly and did some minor patching. I tested to make sure that all three would launch correctly and let me in to the right servers, then created shortcuts for each of them by right-clicking on the name of each installation in the Launcher window and selecting Create Desktop Shortcut.
Then I tested each of the new shortcuts. All worked as they should.
Hopefully others will be able to use these steps to resolve their problems.
