    Um.

Look at the bolded parts of the two quotes.
  2. First off, update your graphics drivers. Those drivers were written before the graphics update that came in Issue 17 and doesn't support many of the graphics calls currently in use.

You may not want to get the most recent drivers as there have been reports from some that are having problems with the 11.5 drivers, so I'm linking the Archived drivers page for your video card and OS. After downloading the drivers, follow the steps below.

Install Driver Sweeper but don't run it yet, uninstall your current video drivers and software, reboot into Safe Mode and cancel any hardware wizards, run Driver Sweeper and let it remove the remnants of the old drivers, reboot into normal Windows, cancel any new hardware wizards, install updated drivers.

Then, start working on freeing up some space on your drives. Many of the routines Windows uses were written in the old DOS days and only look at the percentage of free space and not the actual amount of free space on a drive. Once a drive starts getting around 20% - 25% of Free Space left, those old routines start having problems and some won't run at all. Even though the routines have been recoded, they weren't totally re-written and instead were based on the old code that looked at percentages. Right now, only one drive has any real free space to speak of as far as percentages go.
  3. At the bottom of the page, change it to Hero, then change it back to Villain.

Seems to have worked for some others.
  4. Please follow Hyperstrike's instructions in the stickied thread called [Guide] Asking for technical help on the forums.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it ..... ah fudge, it does mean what you think it means.

    Nevermind.

Shame on you for bringing logic into a paranoia-riddled thread.

Let me get this straight. Your wife, who posts on the forums under the name POOT_ and is known by other players as Poot, can't stand to look at DYSENTERY?

Seems like a skewed perception issue to me.

    Weeks? Nay. Months.

Simple explanation for that, and it's in Zwallendorf's post above"

Oh wait. That scenario you describe actually allows for less variety in character design options.

    How can that be?
  11. Have you tried plugging your computer directly into the cable modem to see if the router is the cause of the problems? If the problem goes away, you may want to check for a firmware update for the router or try to find a better router.
  12. How is your computer connected to the router? Is it an ethernet connection or a wireless connection? If it's a wireless connection, it's possible that you are flooding the wireless buffer with data when the settings are turned up (not in safe mode).

When you say it is a cable connection going through a router, is it a cable coming into a cable modem and then connected with ethernet to a router or is it a cable coming into a combination of cable modem and router all in one box?

TJ let JFA know. It's the only Justice channel that really matters.

Not that I'm buying it, but posting it under the Moderator 05 account is a good way to keep it from showing up in the Community Digest.

Must not really be wanting to sell many of these at 50% off.

Aggelakis is one of the posters I'd least be likely to accuse of using a condescending attitude in posts. Also one of the least ego-driven elitists from all the posts I've read over the years.

Part of that confusion may lie in how Agge referred to That Other Game. Due to some of the changes to the forum rules, many of us are leary of even mentioning the names of other games, as we've been told it is against the Message Forum Rules and Guidelines.

As for people that post with condescending attitudes and ego-driven posts, I'm most likely to fall into that category.

You may be able to use the ATI Mobility Modder tool to allow you to use newer ATI drivers for your video card and get rid of some of the issues you are experiencing. It likely won't get rid of all of them, but the Radeon Xpress series of chipsets were designed for low end laptops and embedded on-board graphics for desktops so they are very underpowered for gaming in general. I've tried running CoH on a system with an on-board X1250 chipset when drivers were still developed for it and before the games graphics updates and it still looked rather horrid. It did however provide a good stress test on the system, which is why I did it in the first place.

As a side note, the Cryptic engine that this game runs on is actually a little older than the engine used by That Other Game. However, as Starcloud points out, we've gotten some graphics updates in the game that doesn't play well with older hardware.
  16. Someone on Beta server said that demorecord is broken.

Might wanna ask Samuraiko about it.

If you are running NC Launcher, you can right click on CITY OF HEROES BETA and verify that your client is running the same version as the server.

  20. Based on my own experiences from a few years ago, your bank may indeed be blocking the charge and most employees may not be able to see all of the requests for charges.

A few years ago, my account came up for renewal on a Saturday night and was rejected. I filed a support ticket, but since it dealt with account/billing issues it was escalated to someone that wouldn't be in until Monday. Knowing that their phone hours started at noon Central time, I contacted the local branch of the bank and even went in to the bank. The branch manager made some calls, but no one that she talked to could see any charges being attempted.

I got ahold of NCSoft account support by phone, and one of the reps stayed on the line with me while I tried again to process the charge with no luck. He suggested I contact the Fraud department for my credit card (issued through my bank) as the code he was seeing made him think it might be a fraud issue.

After calling the 800 number on the credit card and asking for the Fraud department, they told me that it was indeed blocked for possible fraud since the IP address for billing was from an area outside the US. They whitelisted the charge and had me try again and this time the charge went through. My account with them was flagged to allow charges from NCSoft, the IP address they were using for billing, and everything they could think of to keep it from happening again. They also told me that no one at the local branch or anyone with the bank outside of the fraud department would have been able to see the charge attempts since it was blocked for possible fraud. I called back to NCSoft support to let them know what the problem was and they told me they had seen this a few times due to them changing the billing IP address and they were glad I was able to resolve it. They also made notes for all of the billing department in case people called to have them try contacting their Credit Card's Fraud department. Since it's been a few years, those notes may not still be showing up for them in these cases.

In your case, and your friend's, it may be that after a few charges of the same amount by the same IP address or company that they may have flagged it as possible fraud and be blocking the charges. The only way you'll likely be able to tell would be to call and ask specifically for the Fraud department.

Enough people had enough problems with it that Lighthouse made a post about it here, and it's still stickied in this forum even though it was from 2007.

Hopefully, this is what is occurring and you and your friend will be able to get it straightened out quickly while the sale is still going on.

I've lost my original post about this to the forum purges, or I'd link you to that.

EDIT: Knowing you are in France, and assuming your friend is likely outside the US as well, I don't know if PayPal would be an option for you or not. I have no idea if how PayPal works for people in the EU countries.
  21. You may want to post this in the Mac forums here. Manga and some of the other knowledgeable Mac people read that forum more than this one.
  22. I ran CoH on a Dell laptop from launch until shortly after I17 was released. I can still run it, I just prefer not to as the graphics chipset isn't a gaming chipset and is no longer supported with drivers.

I still use the laptop for other things, mostly work related.

Of course, for my gaming I prefer using a desktop computer. Laptops and gaming are only for when I'm traveling and absolutely have to be able to log in to the game. That is becoming less and less of a priority for me since last November.
  23. I know Tex will likely hate me for saying this, but there are reasons I don't immediately install the newest and latest driver for my graphics card.

  25. "some costume parts"

    Okay, which ones?

    What ATI card?

    What drivers?

As Ironblade said, screenshots would be helpful.

FWIW, I'm on an ATI 4850 with some driver version that I haven't checked in a while, and I see no transparent costume parts, but I may be looking at the wrong parts or with the wrong drivers. Even with the wrong card.
