You're almost there. =P -
[ QUOTE ]
Uck. Give us ONE dagger.
Dual is too cliche.
Also, if we got dual, there's a good chance they'd just reuse existing dual-wield animations. So we'd all look like Scrapyarders.
[/ QUOTE ]
As he said, the Red Caps have dual daggers and are quite spiff. Besides... have you ever played Tenchu? Ayame is quite the ninja with her dual tanto (or whatever it may be that's very similar to tanto).
I, too, was a bit disappointed with the lack of Dual Dagger Stalkers and Chain Dominators... but eh... at least people can now stop saying "omg dark iz so purfect 4 stalkurz cuz itz darkness!!!11" -
[ QUOTE ]
My problem is that bows are considered these super lethal weapons while longbow is somehow held to a higher nonlethal standard while using other weapons.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's not really that. It's execution. Longbow is most likely going to use whatever means to incapacitate you quickly... but they're also going to stop, once you start twitching. With Wyvern, it's more of a slow and painful thing... and I doubt they're going to stop firing, once you put your hands up. -
[ QUOTE ]
On the subject of flamethrowers, well, they're tricky to deal with.
----------------
But I suppose you can argue that villains at our threat level are so dangerous (and well-protected) that flamethrowers aren't necessarily lethal.
[/ QUOTE ]
lol i no rite?!
Why is it that everyone is questioning the use of flamethrowers, machine guns, napalm, and whatnot... when even the weakest of us can take a missile or three (or Warburg rocket) to the face? These things (+ a knife in the spine) might make us pass out and that's about it.
You also get those people who say they don't feel "super." Is anyone actually paying attention to what's happening on their screen? =P
Random Villain: hay guyz i dun feal super
Random Hero: Nor I.
[both take a deathray laser to the eye]
Random Villain: lolwut?
Random Hero: Did you feel something?
Random Villain: kekeke i lost liek 20 hp wut loserz
Random Hero: *looks at his Health Bar* Hn. That was barely a tick!
[ QUOTE ]
Why did they call the ARCHER group Wyvern
and the Flamethrower/mini-gun group LONGBOW?
That's bass-ackwards...
[/ QUOTE ]
So is the fact that Wyvern soldiers have arms (since, you know, the big difference between Wyverns and Dragons is that Wyverns don't have arms)... but then, I guess that'd just be cruel and not quite PC. -

Either way, I demand more Ohmtown!
[/ QUOTE ]
I second that demand!
As for the whole Leeroy Jenkins thing... anyone recall a certain set of battlecries between Statesman, Positron, and Synapse during the end of Beta event? =P -
[ QUOTE ]
Inside story arcs it is more common. There is another Freak called Ohms-(something) who you run across a couple of times in one of the Sharkhead story arcs and you see some of the named Family personalities twice in the Port Oakes Family story arc.

When you enter a mission:
'Anyone home? It's the freakin' Avon Lady. Come get some samples.'
[/ QUOTE ]
One of my favourites was "One, two, [name]'s comin' for you." Although, it does need a fixing, because instead of a period, it has an "&."
As for things said? I love the "Waaaarriors! Come out to plaaaay!" style ones. The Warriors = Movie made of Win. -

(*What the heck are crumpets anyway?)

To those who haven't gotten the idea, already... a crumpet is what we, in the US, call an "english muffin." -

[ QUOTE ]
I play CoH/CoV with My Love I Love, almost daily.
Games are more fun when a couple enjoys them together, especially MMOs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Same situation, same view.
My wife and I have forged several storylines together, pairing up several of our characters. Scrapper/Scrapper, Blaster/Defender, Defender/Defender, Stalker/Brute, and Corrupter/Dominator, off the top of my head. What's great is I never have to ask her to play. She's usually already in-game, asking me to join her.
The only problem I have is that she she always waits for me to give commands, when we're paired as a Brute and Stalker. =P It's like I've gone from Stalker to Mastermind. "Woman! You're a brute! I save your butt from the big guys and you take aggro off of my squishy rear and build fury!" -
[ QUOTE ]
His circular arguments were making my blood sugar drop. It's snack time!
[/ QUOTE ]
rofl. You can be such a... butt (yes, that's the best I can come up with, without going against policy), but you do it with such style. >D
In regards to the topic:
[ QUOTE ]
I reserved it over a year ago.(<---- important to this post).
[/ QUOTE ]
Means nothing if you didn't get the pre-order box.
[ QUOTE ]
Can you possibly imagine the enormity of my disappointment to learn that because I didn't pre-order the game USING THE CORRECT CHANNELS, that I couldn't play until MONDAY?
[/ QUOTE ]
No, because it's unpreparedness at its finest. You should've expected such. One who doesn't follow protocol, when dealing with things involving such strict rules, is only bound to fail.
[ QUOTE ]
There's a couple things totally wrong with this. First of all, all the forum-frequenters (who represent perhaps 30% or less of the total playerbase, I'd imagine) knew about this, but I'm guessing few others.
[/ QUOTE ]
You know what? My friends don't come to this forum, but they manage to LOOK UP INFORMATION ON THE GAME JUST FINE. A forum is a grand means for information gathering, but it IS NOT the only means of doing so.
[ QUOTE ]
So we have a lot of people who, like me, went and picked up their copy retail here on launch day and found themselves totally boned.
[/ QUOTE ]
Launch Day is Oct. 31st. Go shoot your information gatherer, because they're doing a craptastic job.
[ QUOTE ]
I cannot fathom how many casual customers CoV is losing because of this monumentally stupid marketing desicion. WHAT GAMING COMPANY ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH HAS FORBIDDEN THEIR GAME TO BE USED ON LAUNCH DAY UNTIL THE MONDAY FOLLOWING THE LAUNCH WEEKEND?
[/ QUOTE ]
No gaming company does such. Yesterday was preparation for the PRE-ORDER 2 DAY HEADSTART. Once again, launch day is October 31st. OCTOBER 31, 2005. Is it Oct. 31, yet? No. It's not.
[ QUOTE ]
Some of us DO work for a living!
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes and some of us have enough smarts to take 10 minutes out of our lives to do an efficient Google search to find the info. If you can't schedule enough time to do such things, then you fail. You fail at life.
[ QUOTE ]
I'm not sure if I'm mad at myself for not checking first, or more mad at the rediculously poor decision-making on behalf of the devs and their marketing guys.
[/ QUOTE ]
Mad at the marketing team for making the game readily available for those who did the info searching and pre-ordered the game, so that they can get their headstart instead of having to wait for the game and miss the chance at such a great offer? MAN! What were they thinking?!
*stamps FAILURE on Sheboygan's forehead and redirects them to the first line of his signature* -
I feel bad now. D: @ Beating On War Witch.
Although... Ravenstorm tasted my anime frenzy assault. >O *curses Photobucket for altering images bigger than 400kb* -
[ QUOTE ]
I play games, any and all kinds of games, for one reason only: to play.
[/ QUOTE ]
I play... anything but sports games. D: Sports = Not fun, for me, cause there's nothing to gain from it. The games I DO play require winning. I guess, after 18 years of gaming, it's sunk into my head that I have to win to get anywhere (which is true with the types of games I play).
[ QUOTE ]
Winning and losing are equally meaningless. At that point, the game is over. I might be sad that I'm not playing, but I won't be sad that I've lost.
[/ QUOTE ]
I would be. All that work, lost, and no means to an end beyond failure. D: I guess if I played just to kill time, I could see that. I play games (not MMOs) to progress in story (I love stories..), which... you can't do if you lose. In MMOs, winning isn't all too important, unless there's a goal that can't be achieved by any other means.
[ QUOTE ]
I played Magic: The Gathering for awhile. I was a constant tournament player (although decidely not a pro) and participated in somewhere around three hundred tournaments, including a score of international ones.
[/ QUOTE ]
Another M:TGer? They seem so frequent on these boards...
[ QUOTE ]
I just enjoyed playing. I still enjoy playing. My favorite thing in life is play! I'm 44 years old and still prefer play to any other pastime imaginable. Yes, even that one.(Although making that one into play is quite fun, too.
)
[/ QUOTE ]
With the decline of general game quality, I worry that I won't be able to enjoy games by the time I reach your age (no offense). >/ Ah well. The reason I kept badgering you about it all was in hopes to better understand the view.
*likes to analyze... sometimes, a bit too much* -
Once again, I meant games in general. Console, PC, etc. You can't "win" most MMOs, so why would I go on about MMO victories? You made a general statement, so I replied to the general statement.
-
[ QUOTE ]
You can play a game and not get a "victory" and still enjoy it. Hell, some of the most enjoyable moments are when you know you've done your absolute best. Win OR Lose. Seeing Oil Slick light on fire after a fire blaster attacked. We got wiped after that. Lost the battle. But it was still wicked fun seeing that power cooperation working and to hear reactions from people that didn't know you could do that :-p
[/ QUOTE ]
That'd just be plain hilarious...
[ QUOTE ]
In real-life yeah. In a game not as much. In a PvP game like this its a matter of die rolls and who read the better guide on how to make a good PvP */* build. So someone who could never beat you at any other game could concievably beat you if the computer rolls the dice in a way that you miss twice in a row with a big attack or they hit twice in a row with a big hold, etc.
[/ QUOTE ]
That part's true.
This comment:
[ QUOTE ]
Those folks who consider themselves "competitive", like to believe their video game victories have meaning.
[/ QUOTE ]
..was moreso what I was talking about, in regards to victories holding meaning. Not just in MMOs, but on console games (online or offline), as well. If he doesn't believe a victory holds meaning, in any game, then why play them, ya know? A weak point, in regards to the general conversation, but it bugged me a bit.
[ QUOTE ]
Getting "better" isn't so much a matter of practice ( though that does help some) as it is a matter of going online, looking up "the PvP" build and respecing into that.
[/ QUOTE ]
I still can't see why people look up PVP info. =/ What you take to PVP should always reflect one's personal playstyle and not someone else's. Silly people.
[ QUOTE ]
As long as we keep this civil I'm happy to argue my point and look at your point!Maybe eventually one of us will word our argument in a way that clicks with the other one :-p
[/ QUOTE ]
You managed to bring up a good enough point about the PVP and PVE debt thing. It's not usually the case, but it was a good point, regardless.
[ QUOTE ]
The in game victories and the in game debt mean very little to me because they arent real and have little impact on my life.
[/ QUOTE ]
I didn't mean in just MMOs. I mean in games, period. All games. PC, console, and what have you. -
[ QUOTE ]
The thing is there's not supposed to be debt as a result of PvP.
[/ QUOTE ]
There is no debt as a result of PVP. There's debt, as a result of PVE in a PVP zone. Two different things. While you and I know he said that training mobs is a valid tactic, you still don't get the debt from PVP itself. Besides... if the situation is that bad, don't stick around.
"Only a fool mocks a tactical retreat."
[ QUOTE ]
Well I dunno if he meant "meaningless" but maybe that at the end of the day you really have gained nothing.
[/ QUOTE ]
To some, winning is important. So they've gained happiness by winning. What makes you happy in life, be it a game or what have you, is always worthwhile and has meaning. The only people who've gained nothing are those who don't do what they want to.
[ QUOTE ]
You beat someone of unknown age/skill in a game where its just as much about the random die roll as it is game knowledge or skill.
Oh, and I dunno about some people but most people I know play games for fun, not trophies or bragging rights.
[/ QUOTE ]
Who said anything about bragging rights or trophies? Winning is winning. Losing is losing. That's it. Competition is about knowing where you stand amongst your peers. If you win, awesome. You know that you don't have to worry about that person, just yet. If you lose, even better. You know what you have to do to succeed. Competition is about learning. -
[ QUOTE ]
Will there be a level bump? I mean your level 54 and most are no way near 40 ...
[/ QUOTE ]
I hope this was a joke about the repetetive requests for a level bump, despite there already being a presented solution for this without a level bump. -
[ QUOTE ]
Those folks who consider themselves "competitive", like to believe their video game victories have meaning.
[/ QUOTE ]
That doesn't just go for competetive or PVP people, really. If video game victories mean nothing to you, then why play video games? A gamer, of any preference, should believe their game victories have meaning to them (not to others).
