Thats if the other team members arent hitting them at all, and drawing aggro in bigger quantities with bigger AoE attacks and higher damage (blasters...)

Well, it would seem we have them at last. They sure aren't Sting Agents, as Stings only have one big gauntlet, and all red armour. These boys have two gauntlets, and silver boots and helms...

Invincibility, the only one that has a radius and thus, I guess, the aura for Invul, only has a radius of 8ft as well. If your against big enough or multiple mobs, that wont help you in the long run.
In fact, all the tanker 'aura' powers are 8ft, with the exception of Ice armour which has a 10ft one as well. If you used simply attacks and auras, you wouldnt be able to hold decent sized mobs for very long.
If anything, taunt should be made an inherent power, rather than the gauntlet taunt. Or maybe added in as well? That, or increase the range of the punchvokes, so that they actually do the job they are supposed to do.
..Is 3ft even measurable in game? By scaling, that should be inside the PC.. -
Standard taunt duration (curtousy of Gauntlet inherent) for Energy Melee attacks is 13.5 secs (working off the Mids build for my main tank)
Taunt has a base duration of 41 seconds.
The radius of effect for these attacks is;
Barrage; 3ft
E Punch; 5ft
Bone Smasher; 8ft
whirling Hands; 10ft
Stun; 9ft
Energy Transfer; 11ft
Total Focus; 17ft
Taunt has a radius of 15ft, and is ranged. Brawl has no taunt value at all.
By those numbers, it is pretty hard to keep foes taunted with simply attacks. Whirling Hands comes in at lvl 16, which is maybe your bets bet.
Seeing as standard melee range is 7ft, low level powers dont have the capacity to punchvoke as, if your playing a tanker rather than a scranker, you will have more shields than attacks. -

Invul/Em. Taken all the Invul powers and all of the Em powers, bar stun. Also have air superiority, laser eyes and focussed acc.
Seeing as hes at lvl 50 now, in PvE hes not too shabby. Im ignoring PvP on him for now, possibly for a long time (more fool me for vanilla slotting a second build)
Admittedly, damage output is not meant to be a tank defining feature. But calling it Medium damage is a bit generous. -

When in a good team he generates a veritable sea of orange numbers which is quite a sight to behold

Dead right. Plain soldiers, with a few Bane add ons for survivability, are actually really hitty.
Web nade + venom nade + heavy burst + frag = a really nasty combo, especially if used with stacked VEAT auras. -
There isnt a specific NEED or RULE that means you have to take powers from the two trees. People tend to for added survivability is all.
For example, my latests (third) Soldier is using only Wolf Spider attacks, with the add in of Build up and Placate at later levels. However, at 24, im not changing his build AT ALL from what it was pre-24. I WILL add in new powers as they pop up, but the joy of the VEATs is freedom. For example, I havent tried it, but you can make a really stabby Fortunata, should the mood take you. Something of a Blappoller, with stealth and team buffsactually sounds quite tasty...must...not...make more alts! >.<

I would suggest something a bit more radical. Bin PvP as it has become and start afresh from the ground up.
Solo PvP in zones was what I was used to, with very rare instances of teaming with a friend or two. In zonal PvP, the main reasons for teaming tended to be hunting a badge or mob (un-related) or for getting rid of an annoying enemy.
PvP was challenging before, and admittedly this was sometimes for the wrong reasons. Certain ATs, while meant to be specialist at certain things, were simply too much. When a tanker with fully stacked mez protection is perma-held and locked down it gets rather annoying.
In PvP, the devs seem to have forgotten that certain ATs are supposed to fulfill certain roles. Although certain ATs WILL suffer somewhat if attempting to solo, that should encourage those people to look for pairings or more in PvP, rather than needing unbalanced buffing.
For example, if a Defender, a support AT, can outdamage the main ranged damage AT, the blaster, then that to me suggests something is inherently broken. ATs should have certain types they are effective against, and those they will suffer against. If a player can beat a 'counter' AT, then THAT is a measure of skill and prowess. It shouldnt be impossible, but it should be a bit of a challange.
For example;
Scrapper, can cope with Brutes, Stalkers, Defenders, possibly others. Weak to a strong ranged AT, most likely Corruptors.
Those shouldnt be 'rules' per se, but certainly guide lines. If there was team made up of one of each AT vs another team of the same, Good vs Evil, then those teams shoudl, theoretically, be well matched, and it would be down to skill and tactics as to who won. Not who could throw out the most DPS.

A clicky for a Defender just doesnt sound right.
For tanks, maybe have something like the old defiance on blasters, but that added +def and +res. With a tanker doing a heroic last stand, it would make a lot more sense, rather than a squishy having something like that.
So, say at half health the Tanker starts getting the bonus, maybe a bit before. By the time he's down to a few centimetres of health, the whole mob will we swinging away and doing very little, trying to take them down.
I see that as fitting in more with the tank AT. Team-wipe, bar a healer and a tank. Tank does his invincible moment while the healer gets the team back on its feet. Both more useful and thematic.
And yes, Tankers do even less damage than defenders. Or it sure seems like it. -sigh- -
So long as you can place entities such as the MM robots as seperate units, I'll be happy. Seeing as you run into a Lich all on its lonesome in one of the Villain side arcs, Im guessing you can do that..? Hoping, at least.

I was happy enough with my slightly squishy first two soldiers up till 24, and then they both exploded into killing machines in there own right.
My crab is now lvl 41, and is dangerous as hell. Five pets, three of them near perma, and a whole mess of AoE attacks.
My Bane is like a slightly tougher stalker with a really tasty debuff and a ranged attack thrown in, and hes only lvl 28.
Widows were horrible to get to 24. Mine was quite a torturous process, but at 24 now, and I can say, IMO, it was worth it. Shes either a stabhappy CQB nightmare (Nightwidow build) or a shooty and buffy lock-down specialist (fortunata)
The thing to remember is that, although NWs get touted as solo monsters, VEATs are the best of the best in groups. If you ever have the joy of seeing an 8-man VEAT team wading through a sea of purple conning foes without breaking a sweat, you'll see what I mean -

Its not right, not by any means, and I would be quite shocked if anyone said it was. So we can classify something like that as an illness, at the very least. So maybe money should be put into actually trying to find a way to solve it, and if not then at least keep them out of harming other people and possibly themselves.

This is not including Ouroborous or Co-op zone SFs. There is no 10 -15 SF (Heroes have Cavern). There is no Villains only at 40-45 and 30 -35. Again, not counting Ouro SFs, which are more arcs than anything else.
Also, forgot that Mantis' SF requires you have a SG. That sucks for those that don't.
