No, you didn't misread. You may have missed a bit of what was implied, but this is text after all.

I was arguing against the idea of partnering with Facebook or any outside party, saying why they won't make their own system and still saying it would be good to have a simple in-house chat system accessible while away(so long as privacy is maintained and annoyance is minimized).
  2. You'll want to remain the same alignment through them likely.
I've seen one report in the technical issues and bugs forum where somebody had switched alignments back and forth while doing the arcs and had strange results.

    IOed?

I really can't rely on Phantom Army.

Even before I lost IO access by unsubscribing with Freedom, I made it a point to avoid powers that "needed" to be perma to make a difference but I just couldn't get them there easily enough, along with powers that just have stupidly long recharges(hello AoE holds).

I can't rely on powers that are down more than 30 seconds between up time, so I work without them and learn new ways. It tends to make me better, but it makes a lot of sets worse.

If I'm going with Illusion, I'll be relying on Phantasm, Spectral Terror, Blind and, the always fun confuse, Deceive. The knockback in Phantasm and his decoy won't always be helpful, and the set really lacks AoE damage to go with Time's aggro-hungry ways.
It would be a purely concept and cool look pairing, while still working great for cautious play(Time's Juncture and Distortion Field not used).

Yes, I want it all, sadly.
I want power enough to relatively safely take on groups of enemies in melee, hence Time Manipulation.

    I would like that.

I just don't want the reverse where somebody in game can and does start begging you to play, spamming your email inbox or whatever. And, I certainly do not want my personal information going anywhere but NCSoft/Paragon Studios.
  5. It's sad about OpenGL as well.

I would love to see a challenger to Windows(because it's bloated and tries to do too much now), and DirectX is a Microsoft thing so Windows is apparently always going to be the gaming choice so long as OpenGL can't do the job as good and no other competing graphics software comes out.
  6. Yep, first thing I check when doing explore badges is "did I get any before?".

That could explain why I noticed the bug about the chat box moving down a bit from the upper left corner and the power trays moving right form the lower left.

I haven't touched it since the first time I clicked it out of curiosity(odd that there is no U in this word) though.

This is why I keep advocating improvements to how the most basic important systems work in this game, such as character tracking.

This game is just "an implosion waiting to happen".

Sometimes it feels that while I am plinking away using Fireball and Rain of Fire (and Fire Breath), they are doing more PBAOE using this nuke. *shrug*
Dual Pistols does have some apparently good powers, but I'm not really looking for weapons sets.(concept reasons)
Dual Pistols also doesn't seem forthcoming enough with the detailed info on the swap ammo powers.

    Edit:
I just noticed the forum join date for you, Carnifax, and Granite here. I feel "old"(as far as how long I have played) and yet I'm the one askign a lot of questions.

    Exactly!

The developers have said a few times "it's really hard to add new systems to the game".
That is why it doesn't work "as it should". They did the best they could with the system Cryptic left them that wasn't built to be rewritten at its core.
  11. Seriously, how does Jolting Chain work?
I'm very curious now because it looks so good, especially with Containment doubling of damage.

Does it jump from one target to another then back to the same target at all?
How many jumps does it make?

I would imagine it would be a really awesome build, Electric/Time.

Good to know. Electric Control looks pretty powerful with Time Manipulation considering the pbAoE nature of Time's Juncture and Conductive Aura along with the likely necessity of enemies being close for Jolting Chain(not sure how this works).
It seems to be pretty powerful, and luckily I own Going Rogue so I have had it for some time.

I also played a Gravity/Force Field to 50 before the changes, so I won't mind doing so after the changes.
Funny thing, Dimension Shift actually looks like a cool way to protect ranged damage dealers from splash damage, such as Lusca's tentacle's long cones, by having the field with the ranged players so that the tentacles are not inside the field. That would only work if those players inside the field could attack enemies that are outside the field though.
There are probably other cool strategic uses of that power as well.

It doesn't surprise me that Farsight + Power Boost would either be an intentional pairing, thus unfortunately locking them into one ancillary/patron pool, or overpowered and missed or intentionally overlooked(a possibility sometimes).

    Edit:
In regards to sleeps, pertaining to Electric Control Static Field, does Time's Juncture break sleeps? Does Distortion Field break sleeps?

Originally, I believe Farsight, or at least Time's Juncture(or let's just say all powers in Time Manipulation), was underpowered intentionally because the developers knew it would be overpowered with Power Boost, but people complained about "being forced to take Power Boost" and the numbers being too low before Power Boost to reach that level adequately or do flashbacks too low.
They buffed it. So it is either overpowered now, intentionally or due for a nerf, with Power Boost or it is "just right" with Power Boost to where you still need it.

FYI, I'm not "self-righteous" about it. Facts and logic are never self-righteous.
If I was self-righteous then I would call you a "heathen of the church of Power Boost" or anything emotionally charged and not based in fact and logic.

The facts support my conclusion that Power Boost doubling Farsight is either "too good" and due for a nerf or "just right" and due for a buff to Farsight while its Power Boost synergy gets nerfed.

There is no possible situation where "Farsight is just right" AND "Power Boost + Farsight is just right" as "A does not equal Ax2" by simple math.

And to further derail the thread, now I'm also considering a Time controller after looking at the very nice Gravity changes and looking at Electric Control for the first time. I also wonder how well Illusion Control works with Time.(no IOs again so obviously nowhere near perma PA, so how is it without Phantom Army?)
I'm leaning towards Gravity for concept and because I love the graphics, but Illusion is very nice and cool and Electric seems possibly powerful.

I may have to just make both a corruptor and controller with Time Manipulation.
  16. I did notice a couple weeks back that my Phantasm really had a hard time attacking additional spawns until I literally dragged him through the center of the group.

Maybe it some sort of "evasion bug" where he thinks "I am no longer close enough to my spawn location so I must run back and not attack" but he is kept close to the player due to the "I must follow my master" part of the code.

I do not know why it is apparently limited to one enemy group though.

Maybe, did the CoT use any knockback powers like the pulsing volcano thing? Tremor(?)?
The Phantasm flies so maybe it's taking its time due to the "can't attack" part of knockback being perfectly timed to interrupt his ability to attack.

    I don't know.

You really are an... entertaining poster to watch.
    If it isn't overpowered then:
    1) How powerful is each power separately? Chances are they are underpowered if "A+B = normal".
    2) If it is not overpowered, and the synergy makes the effectiveness "normal", then is that not the definition of "mandatory" when you "need" both powers to make performance "normal"?

It's pretty obviously logical that the facts show Power Boost either earning a future nerf or Farsight needing a buff.

Also, I don't use crashing nukes such as Atomic Blast.
I don't like being helpless to anything left alive. Though it may be more of a possibility for a click-heavy set like Time Manipulation and teaming with somebody else holding aggro.
I build for solo, though, and just do what I can do on teams, which works rather well.

By the way, Peacebringers share a few powers, with different graphics, with Radiation Blast. I have experience with Peacebringers and like them as well.

Sadly, that is not the case with this game.
This game had a graphical update in issue 17, for one. It's also a steaming pile of "implosion waiting to happen" in the code.
  21. Also, water effects in this game can behave funny.
If you have water effects enabled, and on anything below medium or high, they will cause graphical warping to anything in the foreground of your screen when water is in the background. The fix is to raise water settings or disable them.

    Edit:
It looks like heat waves/after-images around the actual image in the circumstances I mentioned.
  22. MisterD gave me an idea.

Do not summon the leprechaun pet immediately when entering the mission, if you have him.
He currently can cause a very likely crash if the first thing you do in the mission is summon the leprechaun before moving forward.
  23. Glad you could find a solution.

I guess I pegged it right on with the overheating of the network hardware, even though I pointed to the wrong hardware.

    Edit:
Actually, it's probably just failure due to general wear and tear over time. Network cards were, and mostly still are, onyl meant for web browsing and the occasional heavy demand, not prolonged heavy demand from a game that uses bandwidth fairly inefficiently.
Be wary of issues with your laptop though. They run hotter than desktops and have a tendency to shed the heat onto other components, resulting in failure faster than desktops.

Plus, if you're anything like me, you don't automatically give out your MSN information to every global friend you have. Only the close ones.
The global and server friends lists already do what you want.
In fact, the server friends list tells you whenever someone logs in, or when you change zones it says they are online in the system channel.
You can also have your friends list open, and small and sorted by status, to see who is online on the list.
And, that functionality also allows everyone to hide from others if they choose.

It does everything you want without the problem of people not wanting to be on the game to chat and not wanting to share IM information.

If you want to communicate somewhat like Twitter, letting people who you do not want to share contact information with outside the game know about something, you can use the forums or Twitter.

The game does not need to do anything outside of itself, especially when there are other methods already in place that accomplish the same functionality without the effort and money from NCSoft/Paragon Studios.

This is what bugs me about Windows and other programs and even some websites. They can't just focus on what they need to do and do well and let others do things that are optional and do them better than a "jack of all trades" program could do. They just "have to" try to be everything to everyone and it results in a mess of bloatware, privacy issues and viruses.

I know, but I also know that the first thing game developers will do when they want to integrate "out of game" communications is think "other companies already do this so why don't we just get their help and integrate their software?" leading to a partnership with Facebook or something like that which people didn't sign up for initially and would rather not agree to.

If you want to talk to people outside the game, give them your contact information of some kind.
Don't ask for a system that essentially pushes an "officially sanctioned privacy invasion" on them because "I want to talk to them NOW, not when they login later!! RRAARRRGH!".

I want a game to be a game and facilitate communication within the context of the game, not while I'm doing something else and would rather not "just have the game open to chat" let alone have an invasive always on messaging system.
