    Mind/Fire build

    Hey guys,

my first villain I rolled way back when CoV was launched was an Ice/Ice dominator. It wasnt really my type of thing back then, and I quickly fell for the brute and corruptor ATs. With the upcoming changes, and having played those ATs plenty so far, I wanna try a Dominator again. I went for Mind/Fire, because it offers both good control and good damage. Without further ado:

As you can see the build is lvl 40. This is because IMO the lvl 50 slots change so much, it can be difficult to see what your early lvl build will be like. My biggest worry is that I pick up fire breath and combustion fairly late. However, I don't see what I would drop in order to pick them up. I'm skipping total domination because I've heard bad things about it. I also skip my sleeps, because /fire has a lot of AoEs that will wake up the target anyways. Therefore I picked confuse/hold/knockdown powers to avoid this issue. I also pick up Fiery Embrace fairly late...is there any power I should push back in order to get FE?

I've slotted 2 holds on my ST hold and confuse. Is this really necesary? Same question for Terrify and Mass Confusion?

Any replies to these questions, or comments on my build in general, would be greatly appreciated
  2. I'm not 100% sure if I can make it yet, but if I can I will join. Name (and global) is Solar Flash, lvl 50 MA/SR Scrapper.
  3. I only just noticed you're in the same SG as me and I actually know who you are :P
I'm only 32, but if you need a teammate I'll SK up if you want
Let me know when you see me online

  4. I can vouch for EM/DA. Stupidly powerfull. I played DM/Fire before and I wouldnt go back to it ever. DM isn't too damaging IMO.
Energy Melee has so much damage it's scary, and Dark Armor has resistance to just about everything but slows. (psychic resistance, end drain resistance, you name it!)
Make sure to pick up acrobatics tho
  5. I still agree with myself :P
I have TF 6 slotted now, 2 acc 3 recharge 1 end, and I just got ET. I will 6 slot this too, but might change the end slot for a dmg slot (ET doesn't use nearly as much as TF). Basically I can hit TF or ET every 5 seconds then. That means I can pretty much take out a +2 minion every 5 seconds with a single shot. Those 3 dmg SOs wont match that
Doing fine with the end useage as well.
  6. I agree. This goes for any char. As soon as you've built 2 or 3 succesfull teams, you will have a very full list of friends, and most of the times at least one of them has a decent team going. As soon as you lose touch with your friends, build some teams again ;-)

Ofcourse personally I prefer building a team over joining one. Joining one of the bigger VGs can also help a LOT with finding teams!
  7. I think it's my turn to ask you what your point is? :P
  8. The point Max was trying to make is that fury, like any other damage buff be it Forge or a red insp, increases base damage not slotted damage. This is also what I was saying in my last post. I dont have any link that will show this as a fact, but AFAIK this is common knowledge.
  9. Yep, so it multiples base damage. I most certainly didn't overlook this
  10. Actually that sounds pretty logical. As I said I have very little PvP experience.
Ofcourse, with Hasten and 3 recharge slots in these powers, both TF and ET (to name 2 heavy-hitters) would have a recharge of about 8 seconds each...that might just be fast enough to get a second shot in before your enemy runs :-)

The truth is, your enemy can run regardless of your slotting, so while you make a good point I'm not sure if it really is too relevant. Because slotting 3 recharge will always equal the damage of 3 dmg SOs, and as soon as u start getting fury the 3 recharges will cause a higher damage output. Singletarget OR multitarget. The only downside is the endurance cost :-)
  11. I disagree. My brute is Energy Melee/Dark Armor, which is considered one of the more end heavier combinations. I can solo missions nonstop, and I only got stamina last night. Sometimes I would have to rest after accidentally fighting 2-3 spawns at the same time, but in general I could keep going nonstop. I simply didnt run my toggles (didn't have to), and had all my attacks slotted with 1 end redux DO. (except barrage and brawl) This way I could keep moving from group to group, never letting fury drop. This was WITHOUT stamina. Keep in mind that keeping your fury high is ALSO a way to reduce end useage. (IMO a very effective one too)
  12. Yeah I'm Dark Armor so I don't get any kind of endurance recovery ;-)
I'm personally not at the lvl yet where I can effectively test this yet so it's only a thought, but it would probably only work in an environment where you have lots of single targets with a lot of HP. So when you run into a lot of bosses or even LTs, or what I was mostly going for: PvP. I think that while soloing it might actually be a little too much recharge. (I personally don't use total focus on anything lower then an LT for example)

But I think that in PvP it could have some interesting effects. Ofcourse I know very little about PvPing :-)
  13. Yes but Sar, the effect is the same before you take fury into account. That's not acceptable for a brute though. Fury makes a WORLD of difference. It seems to me that in some situations it's more important to do loads of damage in a short amount of time, then it is to be economic about your endurance use. In those situations slotting for recharge would be greatly superior to slotting for damage.
  14. Yes, I agree you can never have enough damage, but it seems to me that your total damage output will be increased more by putting on recharge enhancements then it will be from putting on damage enhancements. 3 damage enhancements won't double the damage output for a brute attack power, but 3 recharge enhancements WILL double your damage output.
Ofcourse you also double your end useage, as you mentioned...
  15. Hey guys,

since I'm getting a bit more serious about my brute now then I was before, I started thinking about slots for attacks. Normally, the first slot I put on an attack is an Acc one. Then in general, the next 3 are damage slots, and the last 2 are either end redux or recharge enhancements. This isn't the way I ALWAYS slot attacks, just my general rule of thumb.

However, for brutes, isn't this is a bit of a gimped order? I mean the 1 (or even 2) acc enhancements to start with is still a good idea, every char needs acc, but it's the 3 DMG enhancements I'm referring to. Normally I add those, because it doubles the dmg per attack, so it doubles the DPS I get from that attack. However on a brute, where I will generally have a fury bar thats halfway full or more, it will add 100% damage, but it won't double my DPS. However, if I would put 3 recharge enhancements on there, my attack would be available twice as often, and therefore my DPS WOULD be doubled.

Am I missing something, or is it far more effective to slot your high-damage attacks for recharge then it is to slot them for damage? Because I see a lot of builds in guides that still slot their high dmg attacks for 3 DMG SOs and just 1 or 2 recharge SOs...shouldnt this be the other way around?
  16. Hey guys,

my EM/Dark brute is steadily lvling up and I'm having a blast with it. However, soon I need to decide if I want to get Cloak of Darkness (CoD). Can anybody tell me if it's worth picking up for a brute?
This is a fairly end-heavy build so I don't really need another toggle, however the stealth component is quite nice, and extra defense to all damage types can only be a good thing. Clearly the +Perc is good for PvP, but that's not my immediate concern. So, will this power help me survive during my PvE missions, or can it be taken later as a PvP oriented power?
Any sort of thoughts are appreciated!
  17. Sorry to see you go man, but good to hear you'll be back :-)
We haven't seen eachother online in quite a while, but I haven't forgotten you yet! ;-)
And yeah, try out heroes for a bit if you want, there's a lot of good fun to be had on that side. My personal favourite AT is the Scrapper, it would definetely be a major change from your Corruptor :-)
If you give it a go, let me know @Solar Flash
    Seeyou soon, I hope!

  18. Oooh, I'd love to get my PB to 40 before then and see how he does...15 lvls in 2 weeks...hmmm...I suppose that technically it's possible lol :P
Highly unlikely, but if I make it I'll be there ;-)
  19. Hmm, altho I do slowly run out of end it rarely slows me down mid-fight. I did take Conserve Power at 24 though, but it's more of a situational power really (when I don't want to take those 30 seconds to rest up :P)

Could you explain why the invention system will make tri-form Khelds that much better? (I know hardly anything about this system, but would like to)
  20. I should add the following: The TF rewards the "Honorary Peacebringer" badge, and since you get to fight loads of council there's a good chance we'll get the "Silver Bullet" and "Slayer" badges during the TF, which are both needed for the Atlas Medallion accolade. Certainly a nice bonus
  21. Hey guys,

A buddy of mine and myself will be trying to run the Moonfire TF (also known as The Kheldian War) tomorrow at 14:00GMT.

Lvl range is 23-28, the main enemy is the Council and the Arch Villain of the TF is the lovely Nictus beauty named Arakhn. We need 6 teammembers to start.

Hope to see some interested people tomorrow!
Contact me @Solar Flash or send a /tell to Kheldian Angel if you're interested (or post here!)
I'll be at the Striga Isle Ferry around 14:00 GMT.
  22. Doesn't every char reach it's full potential at 50 tho? :P
Yes you do focus on one and eventually two and lastly three of the forms, but I'm definetely having a benefit of being tri-form, LONG before I'm lvl 50.
If only for Nova's damage, Human's selfbuffs and Dwarf's durability, being tri-form has some distinct advantages.
  23. T0ughGuy690_EU

    Lvl 24 Respec.

I'll be there at 1:30-2:00GMT with Kheldian Angel (lvl 24 PeaceBringer) (but you knew that already )
  24. Granted, by lvl 40 I may be talking differently, but for the moment tri-form is working perfectly.
Although at the moment I still think a proper tank could have prevented situations like the above, but I'll find out for myself
