Another one I'm worried about is the Ragnarok KB proc in my blaster's fireball. Can you comment on how that one will be affected? It sounds like it will be weaker than it is currently, because it's both large and fast?
  2. Excellent, thanks! Sounds like I'm gonna have to buy a lot of those
  3. With /fire, you want a primary that's great in melee. The best are probably fire, rad, and elec, depending on your preference. I'd lean towards rad, because it's very effective, while also being about 1000 times more rare than fire/.

So for example, putting the Gaussian's buildup proc in BU would be a good idea, right? Assuming you can use BU 1-2 times a minute, will it mean that the proc will go off practically each time? Or am I misunderstanding it?

I can guarantee that getting rid of rezzes would be a horrible idea. A lot of people like them.

An easier option is just to add some nice effects to the rezzes and make them dual use (alive or dead). To essentially make them into t9's that can also rez you if you're dead. May then need to also add a rez effect to the currently existing t9's. That sounds like it would be easy enough. No need to replace any powers.
  6. I've always loved an emp as a buff bot. I tried a therm and a kin as well, but it wasn't anywhere near as good. To maximize therm and kin, you really have to actually play buffer, not just have him on follow. But emp doesn't need that. I would just switch to the emp every ~2 mins, give myself PB'd fort, AB, CM, and then switch back. If AB wasn't recharged for any reason, I'd use the auras instead.

AB is an absolutely huge offensive buff, so even if you don't need any extra defense, you can never have too much offense. Plus you basically have no possible chance of dying at all.
  7. I've gotten my plant/dark up to 20, and I really like it. Was soloing the big spawns in Boomtown for the last level, and it was totally painless. By far my biggest problem is endurance, or lack thereof.

I decided I like /dark because I like the freedom. If I want, I can blast from range. If I want, I can jump in and fight in melee. With /earth I would need to be in melee all the time, which would limit me in some cases.

Anyway, it's a very fun toon. I just can't believe how good Seeds are.
  8. Thanks Eric, that makes sense. I thought earth had good AoE. Since it's actually not that good, as you say, that makes the choice a lot easier for me. I'll keep going with my new plant/dark.
  9. I have experience with a plant/poison controller, but I've come to realize most of her power comes from plant, not poison. Plant is just amazing, so I've decided to make a plant dom as well.

For secondaries I've narrowed it down to dark or earth. I'm leaning towards dark currently. I understand that dark is mostly ranged while earth is mostly melee. But other than that, what are the pluses/minuses of each combo? How does the ST and AoE damage compare between the two combos? Basically would one have better synergy with plant and be clearly better than the other?
  10. I am all for consistency, so I like the change. If the damage scale vs recharge was the only change, I'd maybe be on the fence about it, but the fact that it comes with no crash makes it great in my opinion.

I've always had inferno on my blaster, but I very rarely used it. The new inferno will be like a second judgement, which I'm really looking forward to.
  11. Awesome news. I do hope that damage isn't completely equalized though. For example, it's a lot more dangerous/difficult to use a PBAoE like inferno or nova than it is to use rain of arrows. So ideally that should affect the damage as well, with inf/nova being stronger than RoA. If that's the case, oh boy....

Thing is, if they fix PvP, and make it really good, it -would- be popular.
Nah, I don't think so. Like I said, we're too far gone. If it was like 5 years ago, then yeah. But at this point, people have long been playing CoH as a pure PvE game with no PvP whatsoever. Look no further than all the advertisements, videos, chats, etc made about the game in the last few years. You won't find a single mention of PvP anywhere. PvP essentially does not exist in the game, as far as the devs are concerned. The only reason it still exists at all is that it would take more work to remove it than to just leave it there. People play this game for the PvE, and that's how it's been for years now. If people want to PvP, they find a real PvP game.

The fact is, fixing PvP would take a tremendous amount of work. Keep in mind, PvP was always broken. The phrase "lol PvP" which stood for the devs' attitude towards it was coined years before I13. Then they spent like a year working on I13. THAT was the time to make a difference. That's when they could have made PvP into a truly meaningful part of the game. Instead, they chose to destroy it completely. Now it would take even more work to fix it, because literally every single thing about it is broken.

They'd need to work on removing pretty much every aspect of I13, and then go back to the drawing board from there. Oh and then they'd need to figure out how to balance all the new stuff like Incarnates. Considering the I13 changes that ruined the game took them a year of work, I'd say that changes to actually fix the game would take about 3-5 years. And for what? A chance than some people may become interested? They already took that chance in I13. It failed miserably. Sure, it was 100% their fault that it failed. But to them failure is failure, and they will not repeat the same mistake twice.
  13. Fulmens did a good job covering the secondaries.

But contrary to what you think, a primary can play a big role in survivability. Well, one primary can - sonic. It's a very safe playstyle, as you simply sleep the entire spawn and then take out everything one by one. It's not my idea of fun, as I like to kill stuff faster with AoE's. But if you're ok with it, sonic can be extremely safe.

Blaster psi is not bad, but there is an exception - mobs with high psi res. When you run into them, it's very irritating, because for the most part, mobs either have no psi res, or extremely high psi res. But other than that, it's a good damage set.

I am against energy. It can be fun solo, but on teams, having to constantly worry about the KB really takes away from your effectiveness.

Rad's biggest strength is the ability to slot a lot of procs, including the achilles heel -res in all attacks. That can add quite a lot of damage for both you and your teammates and almost make it feel like a sonic blaster (with better AoE but no sirens song).

It's been stated already, but I figured I'd chime in too, since it actually applies to me.

My blaster has less than 10% defense. I've had him since 2004. I truly know how to play blasters, having done it for almost a decade. I also know what IO's do and how powerful they are. But my blaster still has mostly just SO's. I simply despise the market system. It is the exact opposite of fun for me, and I try to avoid it.

In fact, only one of my toons (my main) is fully IO'd, while the rest have only a select few uniques. And yet I am able to do pretty much everything, except stuff that you're not meant to be able to do , like soloing TF's and such.

You have to realize that not everybody's goal is to completely trivialize every single aspect of the game. Fun can be had without being the absolute most powerful that you can possibly be in theory. And being this way doesn't make people unintelligent or uninformed. Having a more expensive build than someone doesn't make you a better player than them, or more knowledgeable. It just means that you've chosen to spend your time sitting in the market, instead of actually killing bad guys.

That's not to say that there aren't stupid or ignorant players out there. But your generalization was a bit much.
  15. Hey I like that quote in your sig

As far as powers go, the build looks great. You've got pretty much everything you need. I'm not too keen on IO's, so I won't comment on the actual slotting.

In my experience of playing spines/nin, it's pretty squishy, so you definitely want to get as many +HP accolades as you can. When you're not in your tier 9, people will hit you with ease, so be ready to hiber/phase. Also, I may be reading it wrong, but it looks like you don't have enough KB protection. Need to be in the high 40's (with acro), and you seem to be in the mid 30's.

Overall Nin is likely no longer a top-tier set. With defensive sets, you may be better off with EA. Overload is arguably the best tier 9 in PvP, and it makes you pretty much unkillable. Plus you don't have a KB protection hole.

The game is very much alive and is constantly getting new additions, improvements, etc. But only on the PvE side. The reason is basically yes, no one (from the dev team) cares. There are like 100 total players in the game that still care, but obviously there is no point to cater to such a small group of players, when thousands of people are buying items for PvE on a daily basis.

Issue 13 was, in my opinion, as big a failure as can possibly be imagined in a MMO game. They flat out destroyed PvP and drove away many of their most loyal clients. But at this point, they're doing the right thing to stay away from PvP. Economically, there is no reason to spend time on it. We're too far gone, and of the people that left, most would not come back even if things were changed. Fixing PvP would take an enormous amount of work, and 99% of the player base wouldn't care about it.

That's good to hear. My only problem is that the changes were advertised as "hey blasters, we have something amazing coming up for you!!!".....while leaving out the follow-up "and we're also giving it to other AT's, and it will benefit them even more".

Now I don't know how powerful the secondary manipulation buffs will be, but from what it sounds like, they'll be only moderate at best. With how much aggro blasters create and how fast they take damage, a tiny bit of +regen isn't going to "fix" anything. So hopefully they do have some other major improvements.

The issue, for years, has been that if you're choosing between a blaster and a corr/def to round out your team, all else being equal, you always choose the corr/def. Now blasters can get a better ST attack chain...but so can the corrs/defs, and the latter can actually do it easier. So nothing changes. There is still no reason to pick a blaster, other than just for the hell of it.

Granted, the whole idea of "choosing between a blaster and a corr/def" is mostly a theoretical idea. In my experience, even when doing trials, people just invite the first people that ask, and nobody turns people down for their AT. But still.

The devs have said several times that they consider droning a valid tactic, just like they consider TP'ing into NPC's a valid tactic. They've said this not once, but many times, because people have complained about droning since day 1. So in this case, yes, the answer will most definitely be a flat out no.

The PvP system is so ridiculously broken, just about everything can be considered a problem. But this really isn't one. I'd much rather have them actually make PvP playable, instead of "fixing" droning.

  20. There's no question, if you want to maximize your effectiveness, you will take advantage of the new snipes. It's not an alternative any more than using IO's is an alternative. People do what they can to make their toons more powerful. The snipe most definitely improves ST damage. It would be silly not to take advantage of it.
  21. Let's look at the cause and effect of this change...

Blasters are underpowered compared to other AT's. Blasters need help.

What is done to fix this? Offensive sets are improved across all appropriate AT's, having an arguably bigger impact on non-blasters.

    How is this logical?

When word of this change first came out, my first thought was "I hope they actually buff blasters, not just blast sets." Guess I had a reason to worry.

Which means power boost will synergize with energize in energy manipulation if you take it.
Ah, got it. Hopefully the heal will actually be substantial. I've love being able to get rid of aid self and just rely on energize for my healing, but if they make it heal for something meaningless like 5%, I'm afraid that won't help much even with PB.

  25. A while ago someone made a thread about them soloing the ITF (which has several AV's) with a fire/SS tanker. And that was before incarnates, I think.

So yes, it's definitely possible even with a tanker. Easier with a brute or scrapper though.
