  1. You just need to find the right group of people. I've been around since issue 3 and I still have a strong SG. Best ones seem to have their own networks outside of the game itself as mine is attached to the Ars Technica forums. It keeps the SG alive during times when the game is waning.

As far as the neckline goes, I was figuring that the hair was causing convenient lines making it look like the neck was smaller than it should be, but when I studied the shoulders and the angle that they swooped up into the neckline, I could only come to the conclusion that it's her actual neck that's shown, not an illusion from the hair cropping her body.

This is one of the drawbacks of drawing organically. If you see a problem later on that you might have caught on a drawthrough, you can't really fix it, because you lose the rest of the picture along with it. I would recommend trying out bluelining for a while. Even if you don't have a computer to remove the lines after scanning, the effect is very minimal and would likely serve to make your stuff more structured early on, avoiding pitfalls like this.

All it takes is a blue or green colored pencil and a few minutes of extra time.
  2. It's really a shame Proud Citizen left the forum in a tantrum. He's missing out on a really nice gift. Ah well.
  3. Here's the banner. I have it all in Photoshop so I can modify it if needed.

And here's the poster. Was both harder and easier to do it on a pic this small.

    Pain vs. Empathy

Just because there's good defenses to be had on Villside via SoA, doesn't make Pain's lack of defense any better as a set. Defense is just better than resistance due to the protection it provides from everything, including Psi damage via positional tags as well as the debuffs and mezzes that mobs will try to stack on you. Both have an anti-mez buff, but the Emp will help keep that hold from hitting you in the first place.

Then you add in the ridiculous amounts of +tohit that Fort can grant you as well and it becomes a landslide victory for Empathy. Nothing compares to Fortitude as a buff, since you can put it on multiple people and it has such good things to offer, it will benefit anyone.

The real problem here is that Pain Domination just is not a defensive support set like Empathy is. Like all of Hero and Villain side balance, Empathy is superior at being a defense buff set that helps to protect and heal the team from incoming damage and mezzes. Pain Dom is a hybrid set that's giving up defensive performance for offensive power. In that regard, it does it's job well, but I can't fill the same role. The developers basically told us that we'd get our own version of Empathy to make up for the lack of that role on Villainside. We never got it, as there's still nothing that supports the way Emp does. Pain is good, but it's NOT similar Empathy and that makes a lot of us angry.
  5. BH is a good power for an emergency, like an ambush that you're not prepared for. It's also good to separate a boss from his spawn, as unslotted for Intang, BH won't grab a boss mob or higher.

I use BH every once in a while on my teams during LRSFs and other high level TFs to counter nasty ambushes while I wait for DN, FS and Tar to come back. You can still apply DN to things that are phased, so when they come back, they're well screwed.

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG, soooooo happy! I love every piece of art I get, but since you use colors so well, this one just pops for me. The curl of her lip and the intensity in her eyes is fantastic.

Just remember for the commission that she has vivid green eyes. The in game face was the closest I could find to having green eyes and they don't tend to show up well.

What's the point of offering them as commissions if y'all can just get them for free? I hope that's not a problem! Don't hate me!
Some of us are willing to pay, I'm sure you'll get more to follow soon enough Cashoo. This forum is filled with people looking for artists to spend money on. Trust me. :3
  7. It's done really well CR, but I have to say that putting in such a severe cheekbone seems to detract from the rest of the image. The line of her cowl as it crosses her face was more than enough to hint that it was there. I'd guess that you were trying to replicate LJ's penchant for having hard facial features but the effect winds up looking a bit skull-ish. Her neck is also dangerously thin compared to her full figured body.

You're likely one of the only people on this forum who could actually take the criticism properly, so I'm not going to bite my tongue on it when I normally would.
  8. NN, do you want me to try and retouch the picture so it reads correctly? I could also smooth out your banner a bit.

Well, NCSoft/Paragon still owns the rights to the design of a Crab Spider and the Arachnos logo, so there could be problems with that, but the idea of a villain with a robotic multi-armed back pack who works for an evil villain organization is all yours. That's the separation between your character and their intellectual property.

    I'm already there. :3

Edit: they've clarified that NCSoft/Paragon owns the rights to use the character you create in any way they see fit as it relates to the CoX game, but that you retain creative rights to the character itself so there's no problem doing fun stuff with your own creation.

Witless fool! I keep my credit cards on my other planet. Mwahahahaa!
  12. I found out that just by the numbers of good and bad rep I have, the good rep is heavily weighted, making it almost impossible to keep bad rep. Once again, the system is even more LUL worthy than originally thought. It's like in game yellow titles. It means NOTHING.

I demand a system where you can get spankings for negative rep. Now that'll be jawesome. :3

Drawing organically involves no setup or layout sketches ahead of time, no draw through or bluelining it. Just putting down the pencil on the page and drawing the finished product right onto the paper. It's something that's extremely hard to do and pretty rare to find done well, whereas copying a picture from another source freehand is much less difficult and more common of a skill amongst artistic types.

That's why I was wondering if you've referenced this from anything, like a magazine pic, another screenshot or comic page. If it's entirely out of your head, then it's extremely impressive.

If that's all it takes to ruffle your feathers, then you're likely better off not coming around here. I mean, seriously, there's going to be much worse from lots of other sources. CR was being truthful, not jerkish. Free stuff is free, you get what you pay for.

    I personally intend to pay.
  16. Quite nice CR. Did you reference anything to make it? I've rarely seen anyone who could freehand draw organically like this. It's pretty impressive, if that's the case.
  17. I haven't been drawing much really. I come and go in spurts (ahem) and lately I just haven't been really inspired by anything particularly. I mostly do sketches and layout stuff for friends on their RPG projects and art-trade artwork that I can't or don't want to post.

At the moment, I'm sketching living fetish girls for my ongoing Sailor Moon fetish parody story. Today, it happens to be inflation fetish. Go go gadget overcoat!
  18. I'm actually curious what your own personal criteria for an interesting character is. It's not an attempt to 'move up in line' or anything, because I'm dead set on paying you for a commission later on when I get more cash.

But as an artist, I have certain things that I look for in a character. For example, I like contrast, use of multiple colors and a clean overall design that's thematic. We're all different, so it makes me wonder what your preferences are.

  20. In an attempt to keep all my forum spamming into one place, I decided to repost in my usual thread, rather than in a new one.

Not so much art this time, as a piece of fan-fiction instead from one of my favorite friendly writers.

Tell me about it. Bleh. Been around 95 here in the Bay Area for the last few days. Haven't been able to sleep until the early mornings when it gets cooler.

If you have questions about the game, try Paragon Wiki. Has most all the answers you'd need to look up.

Hand dominance is when you're too comfortable with drawing with one side of your hand, instead of your arm as a whole, making it difficult for you to draw at angles or curves that are unnatural motions for that hand. So if you're right handed, drawing right curves is easy, but not left curves.

In this case, because you're seeing the pic from the viewpoint that you always do, you miss that the face gets skewed when you tilted the head sideways. If you move the canvas to compensate or flip the picture, you'll see the error in the balance. If you're overly dominant on one side, your pictures will always tend to skew in that direction naturally.

A lot of people don't realize that they do it, because it's a natural part of the way your arm functions mechanically. Right handers want to draw from top right to bottom left. Not from top left to bottom right. Only by drawing with your full arm does that top left to bottom right motion become easier, but you lose fine motor control when doing it. It's something that you need to be aware of in general and then especially when doing odd angles or poses, because the twisty nature of an odd pose makes us lose the ability to recognize errors as easily.

Bah, I wish I had gotten here a bit earlier LJ. You're suffering from hand dominance, which is causing you to skew your art a bit. I would have pointed it out in the WIP if I had seen it. :/

The colors are very nice however.

It's an illusion, created by perspective on the arms, a hidden hip area and toes pointed downwards which elongates the leg.
  25. It makes me very happy that someone is doing Cashoo some art in return. It's all too often that the artists themselves get no art of their characters, even though they give away so much work for free. I salute you, BW.
