Hey Guardian,
Just wanted to say hey -- I left for like 2 months after high winter heat bills made me choose between the Interwebz and CoH. Within moments, I realized that without Interwebz, CoH can't happen anyway.
So I'm back and plan to be here for the duration! Yayyyy! See you all in game -- and for friends who haven't booted me from an SG or VG yet, hold tight and I'll be active this evening, I promise.
CoH is based on Rhode Island I believe... was there any in-game flooding like there was here in real life? Hehe
Hope everyone's have a great weekend! -
Quote:Lolz. To several comments!I can't help but wonder about the orginal theft though - was your pocket picked or did someone make off with one of your bags, or what? Just curious, and your experience may provide some "what-not-to-do" recommendations for others.
I just received my new credit card today... which is good, because I canceled my stolen one 3 days ago but didn't tell my hotel that I'd done such a thing. Since I'm leaving on Friday, the situation was becoming a bit dicey... soon I would have to prepare for a showdown with the concierge.
Anyway, I guess I actually wasn't "robbed." That was a misnomer, since when you're robbed you've had something taken by force. Technically, I was burgled, or something.
What happened was I arrived at the airport via Air France from Boston and went to the currency exchange station at the airport -- I changed $40 since the bus to l'Arc de Triomphe cost 15 Euro, and you only get $21 when you exchange $40 nowadays. You get a better rate if you exchange more, but the airport has a pretty steep rate.
Anyway, it's clear that someone at the airport saw me take out my money, and then took my wallet when I was waiting at the bus stop, which was both crowded and literally no more than 50 yards away from the exchange booth. The odds of me dropping my wallet and not noticing are pretty slim... I didn't drink on the plane and have completed several MoxTFs (which I believe is actually, lol, somewhat relevant due to the attention to detail involved in both).
I guess the only thing anyone can take away from this, I'd say, is that, in my opinion, you shouldn't even carry a wallet when traveling to/in Europe (if possible). If you do, you should never have more money, cards, or identification in one place than you are able to do without. Spread it out over several pockets and bags, because it can definitely happen to you.
I spoke with a co-worker from Denmark who said last year she was in Harrod's in London (a very large, nice store) and the thieves literally used a razor blade to cut through her purse to let her wallet fall out. Like me, she realized later that she could pinpoint the exact moment when it happened.
It's funny -- I never carry a wallet when I'm at home. I always just put my money, cards and whatnot in my pockets. It makes for kind of dirty, inky driver's license, but I think this is the way to go -- I mean, it's way harder to lose the contents of an entire pocket.
Yeah. Another tip: If you're abroad and in trouble, and happen to have a card like an American Express, you can go to an AmEx office and cash any bank's U.S. check for money. Too bad I had to learn this vital piece of info from a friend after I left Paris.
Anyway, you all rock! I will most certainly be online Monday, but until then I leave you with a quote of a conversation I had an hour ago:
Him: "Excuseh me sirh, where are you from?"
Me: "Uh, yeah, hmm, I'm from Rhode Island."
Him: "Ah, yes, because, I can usually understand ze Englishmen, but I have no idea what you are saying."
Lolz. Best. Compliment. Ever. -
Woot! Thanks you guys for writing something nice. I wrote that when I was exhausted and later thought I'd draw the ire of the trolls.
It sounds weird but when you're alone and in a strange place, every bit of home helps! And, wow, yes, I believe I just called Paragon City home.
Take it easy all! I have to go get to eating those croissants... -
Hey all,
Since I can't play CoH on my work-issued laptop, and since there are fewer and fewer posts appearing on the Guardian forum of late... I just figured I'd give you some drama to digest in your spare time!
Yesterday I arrived in Paris and was robbed just outside the airport. I now know exactly when it happened, but didn't realize it at the time. I had like $300 dollars on me, my bank/debit card, and my credit card, all of which were stolen. Thankfully I still had my passport, stored in a different place.
So, yeah... I spent the day hungry, and without sleep for 30+ hours since I didn't want to go to sleep with any of this nonsense up in the air. I called American Express in the morning, and they said there was nothing they could do, except to cancel the card. I called them back at 4:15, and they said, "Hey! No problem. We have a Paris office with an embossing machine that can press you a new card, and you can pick it up today."
Woot! RoXorz!
...
"Oh, wait," they said. "Unfortunately, the Paris office shuts their embossing machine down at 4 pm. Our apologies."
WTF.
Grr. So, yeah. Eventually, my wonderful girlfriend was able to send me some cash to hold me over. Of course, there were several obstacles that stopped that from happening until 6:45, at the last Western Union in Paris on the Champs Elysee, which closed at 7.
So, after begging my way back to the airport since I had only 4 Euro (to check the garbage cans for my wallet), and then begging my way back and borrowing 5 Euro from a baggage handler (because, ahem, I still had no money) who then convinced the bus driver to let me on the bus for 5 Euro even though the fee was 15 Euro, I wound up okay.
Literally, I both considered robbing a French hobo (with way more money than me) and eating a French woman (who looked curiously like a baguette) before the hotel concierge gave me an orange.
But, let me further explain why I believe the French, as a whole, are in on it: The word for "wallet" is 4-5 syllables long and largely unpronounceable. I was on the receiving end of several chuckles as I attempted to describe what I was missing.
Again, WTF. How is the word "tan" not in a French-English dictionary?
Anyway, I thought I'd give you an insight into my last 48 hours. No one I know really cares, especially since I don't have Facebook and can't reach them all at once. Not that you care either -- but at least some people can spend a few minutes calling me things like "Euro n00b!" and the like.
It's the least I can do for my Guardian peoplez.
There's obviously more to this story, such as why I was unable to go to the bathroom for 7 hours, but that's neither here nor there.
I'm a CoH weekend warrior as of late but, ya know, it comes and goes. Much like baddie waves in the Terra Volta reactor. But I hope you all are doing well.
I will henceforth eat a croissant for each and every one of you. -
I'll do my best to make it Sunday!
I'm not a noob but am a noob PVPer. So I guess I am a noob. Though I have done a few PVP events. Like one a year I think.
It's always been a good time though! -
Now if only we can have wings and an overcoat at the same time! Or even better, wings, overcoat, a tail, a cape and a belt! Woooot!
-
Woohoo! My Pinnacle toons have been neglected for far too long. Now they will be transplanted and may finally get some attention.
-
Ah, I see now.
I actually just bought my first two Green Lantern comic books the other day and just finished the first one... somehow I've avoided that entire realm in my years of reading. So unfortunately I'm not really knowledgeable about it to know if I want to join an SG themed around it yet... though Blackest Night is shaping up to look pretty cool.
I wish the SG my best though! -
What does GL stand for? Perhaps merely by my asking this question, it means that I am not interested. But I just wanted to be sure since you piqued my interest!
-
Hi Madame! I'm happy to see this is happening again!
Quick question: I was wondering if any powers will be allowed for the costume portion of the competition. Specifically, I have a toon that has a little Clockwork buddy that fits in with his concept, but I guess I'm wondering about a couple other powers too, such as ones that put your character into a "fighting" pose as opposed to standing up completely straight.
Thanks PERC! -
Sorry I missed the last (first) attempt at this -- I took an unexpected three-week break from the game. But I will be there this weekend if you attempt another one -- particularly if it's on Saturday night (Dec. 5). I have an AT or two that it looks like you could use.
Should be fun! Just lemme know the time and I'll save room for the Jello! -
Sometimes I get bored and summon my fire imps just so I can kill them... but then I feel bad. Is that normal?
-
Woot! Mine went quite well... no new 50s, but I did get these:
Amygdala (SoA): 42-45
Kindly One (Blapper): 30-37
Eel Conceived (Elec tank): 1-25
There were other random levels here and there on other toons, but these were the most significant. Thanks to everyone for helping me get this much done! Was fun! -
Grats Kheldarn! Soon you will have as many fiddies as the Gosselins have children!
Hi Casa! -
Sounds fun! I'll certainly do my bestest to be there!
-
Quote:Or the Boston ComicCon... it seems to be a drastically smaller event. But, hey, I'm still gonna make it! Though I'm actually not sure why I'm so dead-set on it.sorry i cant be happy about something so simple.. how about adding some real frickin content...then id be happy. this is the main problem with the devs on this game. giving the fan boys toys to tid them over for 1 day instead of real content. how about COH come to the east coast for once. instead of staying out there...ny comic con has jim lee and Joe Q, but is anyone from COH coming ??...noooooo!!
I do wish there were more events on the East Coast. If there was something of substantial size, I could be persuaded to leave RI for a neighboring state... even as far as NY. -

Lol you beat me to it! I was about to post a link to Shirt Woot...
It's sold out now, but they make every shirt available again like the following week if it's popular... I might have to get one myself! -
Woohoo! Thanks again for running this, and so consistently. For a while there, I didn't think I would ever be able to get those Raid badges, just since I wasn't able to participate when Raids seemed to happen. Happily now there's some light at the end of the tunnel!
-
I think and hope actually that i16 will take care of most of the problems -- the team auto-sidekick feature alone should fix a bunch.
Plus, here's hoping you have to leave the AE building to Go Rogue! -
Thanks for running these last night! Was a good time and went really well IMO! Went so well that I got excited and ended up playing till 5 am-ish...
Anyway, I finally got my mic working so hopefully next week I'll be able to participate in the banter. Take it easy till then! -
You might be an AE baby if you're only lvl 4 but refuse to fight anything under level 45.
And, um, if you think it's OK to spam, "AE team lvl 40-50 looking for members" when you're only level 10 -- you are definitely an AE baby.
Grrrrrr! Man alive! I was just trying to earn some influence! Since when can't a man find a team to earn some influence?!?! -
If someone on your team says, "Hey! Stop stealing Casa's debt," and you're like, "Wait, what? Who's Casa? Why does she want my debt?" ... then you may very well be an AE baby!
-
Do you all do those in Photoshop? I have Photoshop... but I think it would take me a couple hours... ugh.
If you know of an avatar creator (or a little Web app like the one you can use to make lolcats!) please let me know!
