Quote:Learn to read please. I said that both were relevant, but which is more important? The answer to this question is : BOTH!
Many times players go into a TF and find they are short damage or it is too slow because they did not bring a healer or find Ghost Widow siphoning off the scrappers (STF) or other such problems.
You can be the best player(s) in the world but if you do not have the right character(s) for the mission then your skills do not matter.
This is important because people will get frustrated and leave. If the players are really good they will be willing to compensate and get the character that will best help the team.
Having people that are willing to get along and have fun is paramount, but having the right blend of power sets makes the whole mission more enjoyable. -

Bumping to try to get some more involvement before the drawing.

For those of you not following the thread that WHF linked to, I just wanted to report that the drop bug was found, and a fix should be pushed to test "fairly soon."
So no, there was no conspiracy to nerf the drops, the dev's don't hate us, and Christmas wasn't ruined. -
I'll abstain from voting since my attendance is dependent on the whims of my teacher at this point.

I haven't been experiencing any lag outside of the Rikti ship raid, so honestly I don't think that the power customization has a lot to do with it.
Personally, based on the evidence I've seen thus far, I think its a server or networking hardware problem moreso than anything to do with the game itself. -
Maybe.... I'll need a better definition of "snob" in this case though.

With the screwed drops, there seems to be something involved more than just an across the board drop rate decrease. According to the datamining that Synapse ran, the drop rates are where they were pre-i16, but according to the data gathered by the players the drops are terribly low (several orders of magnitude in some cases). That being said, the consensus seems to be that there's something going on causing some people to get higher than average drop rates, while some get lower than average. The problem is pinpointing some sort of specific cause.

[BMT of Champion]Gideon F: The scenery is great as well. There is a large breasted blonde on the team. I don't recommend cybering however because while it may be flattering I will post said cybering in the BMT randomness thread.

Well, some of us were talking in the Static Champion global chat after the raid tonight, do we still want to try this after the lag we saw tonight?

Quote:Notice, you still have complete control over the content. What they never said one way or the other was whether you would have control over how much experience anything gave.Well of course not trutly like god but almost create a mission of your image. Yes some mission would need be censor cause of fowl language. If you watch teh video they reall make seem like you would have much control over the content of the mission you created. These new rules really cuts the fun out some missions. Hey if wanna challenge your self with all bosses so be it. If wanna mission with ALL minions cause your need practice.. then you be able too. These changes are lame and they should never tease us by letting us create are own damn missions.

Great job Silas, and I agree with all the major points. A couple things I would throw in myself:
Learn how to judge the rate of incoming damage. One of the trickier things to do but it helps you determine your next heal target if you can tell with a split-second judgment who is more quickly losing the larger percentage of their health. It sounds easy, but can change things completely in certain situations. Example: You have a brute and a dom on the team, the brute is at 50% health and the dom is at 75%, since the brute can probably hold their own without the heal a little longer and is probably receiving damage more slowly, heal the dom. (Granted, this is also subjective and something that you learn from playing support more than any guide can try to explain it).
The thaw animation is a pain in the ***. No, really, I think its worse than CM. That being said, "learn" the activation time so you know how long you'll be rooted when you use it. Learn of course meaning not to memorize the activation time, but rather to know by feel about how long it takes so you can judge if you need to make distance between yourself and a mob before you hit it. -
Quote:Remember those outliers I mentioned? ;PIt all depends on the context. but for the majority of the game, I would take the player. When would I refuse a great player in favor of another? If I had a team with 7 blasters all about to do the sewers, and another veteran blaster wanted to join but I also had an offer from a newbie FF defender, I would take the defender. Granted, that is an unlikely scenario but it is only in situations similar, that I would take a noob over a vet. Even on MoTF runs I would prefer the vet because someone who has never done a tf before can easily make a team phail all over the place. An unneccessary vet on an MoTF team will not ruin the team, just maybe not help it as much as he/she could with an optimal build/AT.
Although, I would argue that with the sewer run there's not enough difference between ATs at that level for it to even matter, but that's neither here nor there. -
Quote:Something I want to clarify about this statement, I'm not saying that any "perfect" players really are perfect and that they'll always be able to do better than anyone else.Personally, I'd rather play with people I know and like than 'perfect' players even. Because if everything doesn't go okay and I'm with those people, the ones I know and like, it's not a catastrophe.
And while good players may know what to expect from certain ATs some of them can't play those ATs for ****. It may not be from a lack of trying but from a lack of patience for the AT.
However it comes down to the player ultimately. When running say a MoSTF, the players you invite are more than likely to have the ATs necessary to get it handled. You don't have to be a perfect player, just one willing to work with teams. If you're not willing to work with the team you join, you may as well not be there.
To rephrase the question, I'll use a hypothetical.
Say you have a team with 7 people and you have 2 people you can choose for the last spot (I honestly hate this scenario, because I hate for people to be left out, but stay with me). Which would you prefer, a player who isn't that good but has the perfect toon to fit the team synergy, or the player who you know is a good player, but has nothing to bring to the table that promotes team synergy? I know there will be outliers (with MoSTF runs, you do need to specialize at least a little to ensure a smooth run for example) but just speaking generally. -
As I told BK, 9PM works better for me, since due to my class I usually get in sometime between 9 and 9:45.

Quote:I agree that it is a combination, I'm just saying which is more important. My initial reaction would be the player. But when I think about it, it's a combination of both.
Do I want Stray kitten playing thermal or Silas? And is also depends on the context, are we PvPing? Or are we pveing? Is it a Master of LRSF? Or is it a lolITF?
My more often than not, I'll say the player rather than the toon. -
Someone needs to request this be stickied (I'm so out of the loop that I don't know who does this sort of thing any more).
-
I already know how I feel on this, but after a conversation I had tonight, I would like to hear the opinions of various Championites.
When building a team, which do you believe is more important when it comes to team performance? Team make-up or the player behind the toons?
While both are at least relevant, I feel like the player is much more important than the toon. I could cite examples, but I want to hear opinions before I do that. Feel free to defend your position if you want, but overall I'm just wondering which is the general consensus.
(Too bad we're not allowed to start polls, does anyone know if I can contact someone like Mod08 to get one set up?) -
-
If there's enough people, there can always be two teams like there was this past time.
Also, if you want, you can count me for a 2nd team, but I won't be around until December when this semester ends (have a Wednesday night class, although, I seem to be usually getting out of that at 8:00 instead of 8:50, so i could theoretically make it from 9 onward). That's entirely up to everyone involved though.
EDIT:
Quote:Also, Has anyone set up a global channel for the static groups?
I knew that you guys were running the same night we did but we had no communication during the times we may have overlapped. Is there any interest for starting such a channel?
~MR
EDIT2:
I was able to drop a couple channels to form this up if anyone is interested. I'm going to keep it private for the time being so that only static team members end up on it. I may change this in the future so that anyone interested in a static team can join but it will stay this way until it gets "off the ground." Shoot me an offline global (@Stray Kitten) or a private message on these forums with your global and I'll hit you with an invite.
EDIT3:
Should've also said that that includes former static team members (people who have run in these before) and people who would like to be considered for substitutes. -
Well, it was my understanding that it looks to be bugged.
As it stands, we know (95% certainty iirc the sample pool) that the drop rate is lower with the settings for 6 people and 1 person on the map than they were having 5 fillers off the map. When questioned about this, Synapse stated that the drop rates shouldn't have changed. Now, this doesn't mean that it was a known issue and they may still be datamining to verify that this is indeed the case. -
Nah, knowing Alpha-Zulu, he just likes to sell stuff face-to-face when he can. I do the same thing from time to time.
-
From what I understand, this is bugged currently. There was a lot of datamining done on test by players to get the new drop rates, and Synapse said in the closed beta forums that the drop rates should not have changed. Granted, this was all secondhand information for me, so take it with a grain of salt.

Nah, I was -speed and -rech capped so it wouldn't have mattered. The toon I was on didn't have slow resist at all. ******* Heat Loss.
