For clarification, Im talking about putting *all* the NPCs in that dropdown. Heck, make still images scaled to size, and simply impose them on the background in place of the black cityscape we have at the moment. That way you dont need to add in animations or anything consuming like that.
Oh, I wasn't talking about standing next to other heroes. I meant that say, you use this drop down menu to scale yourself to a civilian. For that it'd work fine. If you want to scale yourself to a Metal Freak, that works fine. But that still doesn't change that the NPCs are oddly scaled compared to each other. So that method would only really work if the only tall NPCs are the odd ones that make sense.

I agree with Sam that adjusting height across the board to make NPCs realistic would be great. It's just a huge amount of work, and would leave players who didn't buy the science pack freakishly tall until they paid up, and that's just not fair.

What would it do? Put an NPC model of your choice beside or just behind your character for scale purposes.
Want to be civilian sized? Voila. Easily done.
Want to be taller than that, but not Cor Leonis size? No probelm, you can check.
Want to put even a ravening Warwolf in your shadow? Boom, done.

Easiest way, even though it in itself might not be 'easy' to implement (code rant, etc)
That's all fine and dandy if you're going to be spending all of your in-game time surrounded by the same kinds of mob. The second you stand next to somebody else, you're going to seem tiny or huge again.
  3. I have no idea if this thread is still being seen to or not, but I remembered it just as I was looking to find the appropriate red-name to send a PM to. There might even be a lore-wise player about.

Fusionette and the Nuclear 90; have they all got energy-based powers, or have some of them got radiation-based powers as well? Do we know of any one of these super-powered beings besides Fusionette? Is Fusionette's hair dyed to suit her 'quirky' personality, or is the blue hue a side-effect of her mutation?

These all may seem terribly trivial, but I'm looking to make one of these Nuclear 90 myself. I like to know as much about my characters as possible, and I felt odd not knowing whether my character would naturally have blue hair or not. So naturally, I can't start them yet and remain sane. They're on the back-burner for now, anyway.
  4. I agree with Samuel that a good workaround is to ignore the height chart entirely, but that's what I feel is the issue: it's a workaround. Only players who have experience understand that this workaround is necessary if you want more appropriate scaling, whereas many new players are going to innocently use the chart and end up with something that doesn't quite fit right.

Ignoring the chart and going by experience definitely works. I just don't feel it should be necessary.
  5. Yeah, people who have been banned, broken rules, or been caught disregarding their NDA can sometimes keep their accounts, but are no longer considered 'in good standing', from what I've been told.
  6. Oh wow. Kind of embarassed now.

Thanks for the info. Five years or so and I'm still learning things about this game. That would make sense with the Freakshow too, so I think you've got it spot-on.
  7. I've been running through the Arc List in Ouroboros lately, filling it up with stars. A big fraction of these are the older arcs, and now I've reached the 25-29 band. Council. Quite a bit of Council.

Was it ever explained why many of the older mobs vary wildly in height? It's always confused me as to why we've got a way of measuring our characters' heights, but then once they enter Paragon City of the Etoile Isles, every concept of height is thrown out of the window. My namesake's at around 5'10", and only the smallest of Council soldiers seem to be at around his height. Most of them stand at a mighty 8' or so.

I was curious about what the forum community knew about any past explanations of the strange heights, and what they thought about the idea of height being standardised across the board. Scaling some of the older mobs to be a more realistic height to match up with the player scales we see before we even first enter the game. Alternatively, having the player height chart relabeled to be more fitting to the city. Is it too late in the game now for those with the power to make such a change, or do you feel it would be welcomed?
  8. I'm loving dimension shift. So gonna use it straight away.

I gave up on analysing whether or not the contents of the mutant pack fit the term 'mutant' about four seconds after we saw a bit of it. Regardless of what it's called, I'm going to be using the pieces how I like and where, so the label doesn't really matter to me.
  9. Although I've no idea if I'll be getting involved, I would like to give Kudos to all those involved in arranging this contest for the simple matter of being able to enter outside of the US. I haven't been as concerned, but some of my fellow Europeans have been quite unnervered by the US-exclusivity as of late, and I don't like to see them upset.

    Very nice work.

  11. Perhaps this single Mod8 post will help quieten them down when they suggest that because a Red Name has yet to comment, they are right and we are wrong.

Added it to my sig anyway, just in case. Easy access.
  12. Oh dear, another one of these threads? Are the thirteen others broken?

Tiers are not necessarily equal to waves. Nor were we told that everyone in a tier would be invited simultaneously. I'm sure that those in control of the inviting know a lot more about what they're doing than the starters of these kinds of threads do, and said people need to stop saying that they 'deserve' their invite.

The last comment wasn't directed at the OP of this thread, more at the mindset of these thread-starters in general. These threads are starting to become an eyesore.
  13. The other two are real cool, yeah. I'm just about to potter off to bed, so no link to a video, but you can find it in one of the discussion threads.

There's one called Energy Morph, where you crouch down, a blue bubble develops around you, and then it explodes to reveal you in a new costume. Rather techy/sciency.

The other one is called Dimension Shift, and makes two (four?) ghost versions of yourself (like the animation for flurry or Hail of Bullets) that come out of you and move either side of you, performing the teleport 'arms up' animation. They then all shift back into you, and with a flash, you're in a new costume. I've got my fingers crossed so hard that it's painful in the hope that we can get Dimension Shift as an alternate animation for teleportation once power pool customisation comes around. It would fit my namesake really well.
  14. Lots and lots of fun.

I was a little saddened to see my 'Happy 5th Anniversary!' title go, but overall a good, fun hour. I was initially confused as to why you couldn't do the hero event, and then the villain one, but by the end of it, I saw it all in a new light. My thanks go to all who were involved with arranging this, and here's hoping to more in the future.

I actually had the most fun bumping into names I hadn't seen in years, so thanks to you too, Unionites. Was nice to hear from you again.
  15. Oh wow. First time I've actually been able to do one of these. Totally gonna be there. Are the events usually simultaneous, or first in one place, followed by the other?
  16. ... Dang. I always wondered what it was that irked me about robot characters.

    Thanks!
  17. Thought I'd give my kudos to David and Jay, too. This has been long-requested by fans, and to see it released is a fantastic addition that shows how special the dev-player interaction is around here. Very nice work.

I am, however, another one of those people who doesn't think it should be part of the mutant pack. I'll be buying it anyway, but because it is an individual and high-requested item, I feel it would be better suited released with a regular patch. If it gets more money shifted to Paragon Studios, then I'm not really complaining. It's just where I feel this tail belongs.
  18. When you set your phone's text alert to the /tell beep.

    ... I considered doing this.

Also, when you hear ghost /tell beeps when you're in the mood for a chatter.

I either did this for a while (I was admittedly playing a lot then), or it was a bug. A likely story.
Edit:Whilst in-game. Not out on the street or anything. ><

Guilty. I don't actually make them all, but I'll be walking down the street, notice some grass growing through a pile of bricks, and have something to start working away with in my head.

    g-a-y supergroup

Although I said that I was offended by the term 'straight-acting', (and I would stand by this), I by no means wanted to get any argument going. I want people to do and say what they want, and I don't want to clamp down on what people can and can't say.

I was just stating my opinion, and everyone else's is just as valid. I find the term 'straight-acting' offensive because it claims that what many straight and gay people normally do as a straight thing, and that the gays who live this way are acting straight. Whether or not it's intended by the speaker, I feel that 'straight acting' implies that to be gay means to be camp. I'm not going to freak out over it or anything, I just find it offensive. Camp, however, is a word that describes a collection of mannerisms. It is far more common among the gay populace, yes, but its name doesn't tie it in with a particular sexuality. This is why I don't find the term 'camp' offensive at all, although I'll be offended if the presumption of gay=camp is made.

Like with my last post, I don't wish to be arguing with anybody. It's just a delicate subject with a considerable amount of people, and we're bound to be offended by all kinds of things. People shouldn't have to duck and step over all the little things that offend others, because with some people the amount they're offended by is ridiculous, but it can't hurt to know what does and what doesn't offend people.
  22. I love how whilst he's looking for a new signature picture, mine is saving the space. Had to double-take there.
  23. Thanks for the replies, all. I've been playing the little guy for years, but only recently have people I've been teaming with started making friendly comments and asking me why I chose that origin, when it quite blatently should be ______. I thought I'd come to the boards, as all you're all generally great with these sorts of things.

    Also;

Thanks! He's one of my characters whose stories I'm more proud of, and probably the one I get the most compliments on.

This is what I went with after a couple days pondering. I thought that his powers are completely natural to him, but it wasn't a mutation as he doesn't have any 'base DNA' to be compared to.
  24. I thought I'd bring this to the masses. I've a character who I love terribly, except that his origin took me weeks to decide on. Let me explain.

A mutant girl with illusion abilities had an imaginary friend. The pair played every day, and she taught him about the world and how it should work. However, the girl was killed in a car crash with her parents. With the end of her life so unexpected, the imaginary friend took on a corporeal form, and now he's a character of mine.

My question is, what origin would you have classed him as? There's enough debate between the 'tech is guns' and the 'tech is more advanced than that' crowd, so I was curious where you'd file a character whose origin is other superpowers. The character is made and levelled, it's just something I've always remained terribly curious about.

Ah. The fact that I'm from the EU boards and am currently intoxicated makes it kinda unfair, but I'll still take the laughter. Bring it.
