Updated the glossary with more information on how defense works.

Quote:Am I the only one that thinks this is childish? I thought this thread was here for discussion and civil debate, not "You disagree with me?! I challenge yooooou to prove it!!!!11" It'd be one thing if we were disagreeing about needing the shifts on the new trial. But we're not. Nobody is. This is about only being at -4, which is a difficulty setting people have been able to set for years. How many people will step up and show me how useful their flat 50 can be? How many will step up and prove to me that their flat 50 can contribute as significantly as one with level shifts? How many will step up and prove to me that their toons don't need to be "carried" by someone with level shifts? How many will step up and make me eat my words?
We shall see.
Nobody has argued that it wouldn't be tougher than having level shifts. It would be tougher. Not impossible as you seem to imply, but tougher. I'm not even sure where you got a few people not being shifted on a league must equate to the whole league not having shifts to prove some kind of strawman point. I've yet to see that happen ever in the game. Not when iTrials first came out, and not now.
And as I've said earlier, this is pointless. -
For a list of what you can and can't do with Enhancement boosted stuff, see here.
-
-
Quote:Um, not quite...you can still unslot them, and trade them. They just lose the bonus if you do.You can use them on ANY IOs that give enhancement value...
but then they're locked to your character. :/
You can't email them or drop them in base storage, though. -
The two aren't really all that comparable. For more damage, fireball is what you want. Stalagmites would be useful if you had another stun to stack it with, but on elec/SS, you don't. The damage is worse, the animation is slower (IIRC), and the stun would only work on minions (which you probably don't need help on). And unfortunately, they both require the same amount of power choices.
Looking at the other choices, you won't get the ST attack that fire mastery has, which may or may not matter--you'll instead get a slow patch and/or sleep attack.
So it comes down what would be useful set bonus wise, and/or variety/damage. -
Also, just for you, BRA, I updated my guide with some softcapping advice.
-
Quote:The problem is that it would be different for each AT, and listing all the possible ways to build your defenses (aside from the standard tricks that Dz131 just mentioned) would be...quite a wall of text. That nobody would read. And it would be mostly redundant, since all the information would be in Paragonwiki or Mids'.I would like to see a guide that lays out the best ways to actually build for defense. Whenever I would read a guide about a particular AT or powerset, it's instruction to getting softcapped defenses was always "get softcapped defenses", which isn't any help. I can''t use mids, so whenever someone posts up a build it is just a large block of meaningless numbers.
I had to figure it out on my own, and I'm only so-so at it. I can't softcap any of my toons, but I can get their defenses into the late 20s, early 30s. That is good enough so far.
So, if you just can not use Mids' for whatever reason, you'll have to look at your invention pieces in paragonwiki/Wentworths and find out for yourself what each of your builds needs. If your goal is to softcap, build upon what you already have, or figure out which kind of defense would work best for you. And then you'll have to work it out by pencil and paper (or calculator) to tally up your defense percentage to see if you reach the softcap. For more specific help, you'll need to get specific. -
Why would he want to drop one of the best self rezzes in the game for a redundant travel power?

Quote:Sorry, but I don't have any new flat 50s that need the iXP, and I was never one to waste my time to prove a point about something.I've put forward the challenge and I expect everyone here who disagrees with me to show up and see for themselves.
I'm willing to "eat" my words if I'm wrong, so prove me wrong.
Edit: Besides, such a challenge is a dead end. If it's successful, it's debatable how successful it was to each person. And one could say that it was only successful because this specific team was optimally configured, etc. If it's unsuccessful, that is also debatable (unless it's a failure, obviously), and the other side could say it only went so bad because we didn't have X, or X person wasn't listening. This kind of challenge generally doesn't prove anything.
Quote:I just to point out that Richter is one of several people who put themselves out there to organize and run trials.
Huron most notably leads several times a week. Iron General and Major T lead them as well. BLA and Mage Black on occasion. I'm sure I've left someone out, and I'm sorry if I did.
I point this out just because that leading a trial is a very daunting task, and I want to make sure that those brave souls who do it with regularity are recognized for their effort. -
-
Lessons? I imagine most of the problems people had in those days were learning how to play the content. Even today those trials can fail on mostly shifted leagues due to a lack of listening, or poor league composition.
-
The issue I was responding to--and I imagine others were as well--was that you found a problem with it enough to mention it in the first place. As if you felt it was wrong, and people shouldn't be doing it. And I can't agree with that, for the reasons I said. Of course, as long as your opinions don't color your actions, it really doesn't matter.
-
I could have sworn the tailor in Steel or Founders had some of the new costumes out in front...
But yeah, if they don't do it already, it's a good idea. -
Quote:That sounds like hyperbole, but even if it wasn't...you can't blame the game for not having the time to level yourself up. It takes less than half an hour to run a Lambda/BAF/Keyes (assuming, of course, you can get one started with relative speed). Now apply this same strategy to the current state of Incarnate content and we are looking at literally years to get the minimum entry level gear for the slots.
Anyway, if you're desperate to check out the new content and you don't ever see yourself making those level shifts, I imagine people will still take you. It might be a pity spot, but I'd like to think most people wouldn't care as long as the league has most of its people +2/3'd. -

Quote:But people are doing older content, unless things have changed dramatically over the weekend. Last I checked, Richter was doing nightly iTrial runs spanning most of them that he could. And of course, people form for TF's to get shards all the time.Perhaps it is disrespectful to join in with a "light weight", but then if no one is doing to older content how would I ever get my 50 to be incarnate in the first place?
Quote:Just to put this in perspective, I ground out several 30 minute solo sessions (around 4 hours total) this last weekend to get two shards. Two freaking shards. I need about another 30 to finish my top tier Alpha slot. On one toon.
I ran the new DA intro mission arc last week to get four threads to finish my second tier two judgement power. Again, it took me about three hours to get the four threads. Absolutely freaking nuts for a drop rate that needs so many to do anything useful with.
You don't need a lot of time to crank out a quick lambda/BAF. Of course, what time you get on to try it does matter--as it matters in trying to run any team content. -
I can't really agree that flat 50s shouldn't be allowed to join Lambda/BAF/Keyes. At +4, those aren't that much more difficult than some of the other content in the game (usually at max difficulty level, but still). By asking people to get their alpha shift first, you're asking them to sit out their new incarnate-to-be until they can scrape together the shards (or waste astrals converting them) to even begin to participate. Plus, those trials are still regularly ran by people who are experienced, and most will already have shifts themselves. Even a league of flat 50s can win, assuming they don't have people (un)intentionally griefing them through questionable actions.
That said, I agree that the newer trials--specifically DD and MoM--have significant penalties for deaths, and at -7 it's simply too much for most flat 50's to reasonably contribute on. Buff bots are the only ones unaffected by depreciating effects of powers from the level gap, and even they feel the harder hits of the enemies. And even then, their use in buffing is diminished when you consider all the destiny buffs flying around. -
I refer you to this thread.

Quote:I don't find it difficult at all. The cone is wide and has pretty awesome range, and the animation time is pretty fast, and unobtrusive. It doesn't have the *potential* range that Ion has (then again, none of them do), and it can be difficult to tell whether or not you'll hit your target if it's quite far back, but...on a warshade, you shouldn't be that far from your enemies anyway. As for Vorpal Judgement, how hard is that one to aim? I am used to cones that work by selecting an enemy, not ones that just hit right in front of you, and I'm worried that instead of hitting all enemies in a nice cone in front of me, i accidentely teleport into a wall without hitting anything...

I had a similar experience on...Wednesday night, I think. Someone took it super personally when they were told that they'd be more/less useless on the DD trial. I likened it to them wanting to bring along a character without an alpha slot on a Tin Mage or Apex.
There are other trials non level shifted heroes can take part in. There's no need for you to rush to play the newest thing on a character that can't contribute 100%. If those trials aren't being played at the moment (and they are, on my server), give it a couple days. i22 was released a couple days ago, you can survive until the newness wears off. Or, try leading one yourself, if you must play it nao. If you're the league former, you can't exactly be denied. -
I see...it does sound quite a bit better, after reading more about it. Interesting...
