Strangely in the software business limited trials are rife. Some of them do go down the "full features for 30 days", but a lot of them go down the route of "use this free!! (but with limited features unless you pay $29.95 to register). Ridiculous in my opinion

Firstly, I trust the wisdom of NC's roadmap when it comes to how they are going to treat the competition a hell of a lot more than I do yours. Whether you like it or not, they are going to stick to that.

Secondly, CoH has had to deal with Age of Conan; an extremely hyped up game that quite a few people from these boards have played, and despite it's gloss and hyped up features which STILL (afaik) not been implemented, a large number of them (myself included) have COME BACK to CoH because it's the better game. Even if CoH does suffer a dent in numbers when players try DCUO and CO, given the history of the companies that are looking after these new upstarts, there's nothing to say that this won't happen with those too. In fact, I'd say the probability was more likely.

Thirdly, for someone who does nothing on these forums but complain, predict doom and constantly go on and on about how bad ED was, the testament to how good CoH is, and how well it's been managed even under the "bad old regime" of Emmert and co is, YOU ARE STILL PLAYING IT.

On the contrary. It's only August. If NC make a kneejerk reaction and respond with what they have up their sleeves now, that still gives Cryptic and SOE to implement something in competition before their game goes beta, let alone live.

As far as I can see, NC could wait until either / both games go into final beta before making the announcement, but I have a feeling they won't wait that long. If I were a betting man, I'd say we'd start hearing more definite things around November / December time, and afaic that would be nearer the "right" time for disclosure than now.

It's one thing to publically say, "We're not worried about the future competition", but what's coming out of the NC camp is far more "solid" than that imo. They've got an absolutely doozy in the wings, and I really don't think all the speculation and rumour in the world is going to do it justice.

Maybe I'm setting myself up to be disappointed, but oddly I don't think I'm going to be.

The devs know what's coming competition wise, and from what I've read they're not in the least bit worried about it because of the plans they have of their own.

As was rightly pointed out too, the time for information release is extremely important to maximise the impact of it. In relative terms, it's early days yet.

And yet point 3 in your list illustrates the kind of attitude that can put people off (albeit probably expressed a little tongue in cheek).

I will admit, I did have one PVP sesh a while back on Defiant as a villain which I thoroughly enjoyed. I got my backside repeatedly handed to me on a plate by obviously much more experienced players, but that's only to be expected.

With EVERY other PVP experience (blue and red, and both servers) I've had, the zone has been populated by cretins. Either smacktalk across broadcast along the lines you describe or one example in RV where I was attacking pillboxes and told to "go and find your own".

My earlier suggestion for 101 was some of the players of this game. In my experience, PVP zones appear to have a particularly high concentration of the type I was referring to, and I'm not "in" to PVP enough to want to tolerate them unfortunately.

How many times is this going to be repeated? There are warnings in big red bold letters when you enter a PvP zone, but in case you missed them / ignored them / didn't think they applied to you, I'll repeat them here.

THIS IS A PVP ZONE. THAT STANDS FOR PLAYER VERSUS PLAYER. YOU WILL BE ATTACKED BY OTHER PLAYERS. IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO BE ATTACKED BY OTHER PLAYERS DO NOT ENTER THE ZONE.

I'm not a PvPer, but if I go into a PVP zone for badges, I expect to get attacked by other players.

So should you.

It might be your preference of style of play, it isn't mine. Get over it.

On that subject, one thing that can go in there are the changes made to PVE to "balance PVP". Why? It's possible to have a different set of effects of a power when it's against a player or "critter", so why not just change that attribute of it? Don't stuff up PVE just to please the PVP minority tyvm.
