  1. Try disabling the intel graphics family adaptor in Device Management and see if the computer will tolerate that.
  2. The room placement code doesn't account for whether the room already exists or not. When you move a room, it's the same thing as placing a room; the only doorways that will automatically generate are the ones that are "fixed."

What I'm saying is, the developers assumed you would place all rooms and never move them, or move them only in the beginning, before decorating or modifying them. The code reflects that.
  3. Door placement on placing a new room is fixed. There are only certain points where an initial doorway can be place. You can change it afterwards, add the one you want and delete the one you don't, but the whole thing assumes you place rooms before you decorate them.
  4. Huh, the servers are in Dallas. Isn't there something happening in Texas? Say, something like a huge wildfire affecting thousands of acres? Maybe some internet cabling going through the state?

If there's suddenly bad lag where there wasn't before, then there's a good chance that something is happening on the internet between your computer and the datacenter.

The point is that Dwarf Form, despite being touted as the 'tanking' form, is actually a very poor substitute for a tank. And worse, Dwarf Form's damage is poor at the same time. Except for the mez protection, you tank better as a Human-form than as a Dwarf; you have more mitigation and recovery tools in human form than you do in Dwarf form, and the increased resist in Dwarf doesn't make up for the loss of them.

A friend of mine, who's analyzed the archetype's performance, has always said 'Dwarf form is a trap.'

This just makes the trap more obvious.

What the archetype *needs* more than anything else is damage. Damage, damage, damage. Even with the previous round of revisions, where damage scalars were tweaked upwards, Peacebringers could use yet MORE of an increase.

Ultimately, you're going to struggle with that chipset, no matter what you do.
It's true that they don't bother updating drivers.

It's also true that when they do modify drivers, they customize them for specific reasons and purposes, and for specific variations they've asked for in the chips themselves. It's not nonsense advice by any means; a generic driver can mean the laptop ceases to function properly.

Always go to the laptop manufacturer FIRST to look for updates.
  8. The next time you get a laptop, whenever that may be, make sure it has an ATI or nVidia chipset for the graphics.

Intel's integrated video chipset is not designed for heavy graphics loads. It's designed primarily around business applications. I'm honestly surprised it supports directX 11 at all.

That said, you can try to see if there's an updated graphics driver for the laptop, from Toshiba's website. Because manufacturers often write custom drivers for their laptop computers, going to the computer manufacturer is pretty much the only way to assure that you get any working drivers. Sadly, most laptop drivers are not updated with newer versions. Manufacturers just don't give a damn after the laptop has been sold.
  9. Hint: In this forum, you're mostly talking to other players, not to NCSoft or Paragon Studios.

If you want action on the issues you've reported here, you need to use the website to submit feedback through the support process, or use Menu - Support in game.

    Ups ?

Depends on how you define "cheap". A UPS will provide power. A decent UPS will also condition the power so that spikes and drops are smoothed out. A decent UPS will also have a surge protector inside.

A basic surge protector may or may not actually protect your equipment. If you have your cable/dsl modem hooked up directly to the cable outlet, your computer is still vulnerable. Unless you're on fiberoptic, as with Verizon FIOS.

In addition, there's the matter of response time to consider. A surge protector basically has a fuse in it. It takes time for that fuse to burn out under a large surge. While the fuse is burning out, there's still potentially damaging levels of electricity flowing into your computer. A fuse that burns out in fractions of a millisecond is better than a fuse that burns out in milliseconds.
  11. Blue Screen of Death is a separate issue. It may have something to do with the nvidia 3d stereoscopic driver service, it may have something to do with the ESET security, it may be that the video card drivers are corrupted.

You may want to roll your drivers back one version. You have the 280.26 drivers loaded, but I'm not sure they properly support the 9800 GT card you have. That's one possibility.

Can you get into the game in Safe Mode?
  12. Uninstall the NCSoft Launcher.

In Windows 7, go into C:\Users\<username>\Appdata\Local\ and delete the NCSoft folder.

    Reinstall the NCSoft Launcher.

p.s. Tell us if this works. I suspect it will, as the symptoms are identical to what happened to me over the past few days, and that was the solution.

Infernus, please go back and *read* the first post. In its entirety.

    CoH wont Load

Okay. Assuming that your video card isn't going bad, this may be the problem.

    Uninstall the NCSoft Launcher.

Go to C:\Users\<username>\Appdata\Local\ and delete the NCSoft folder.

    Reinstall the NCSoft Launcher.

If this doesn't work, then the problem lies elsewhere.
  15. Starcloud

    CoH wont Load

First, if you want actual tech support, go to your NCSoft account and open up a ticket through the website, under the support link ("Ask a question").

Second, what operating system are you using?
  16. You're welcome.

I would assume that somehow, one of the files in the C:\Users\<username\Appdata\Local\NCSoft directory got corrupted or that the NCSoft Launcher lost permission to access that folder. The cure then is to delete the directory and reinstall the launcher.
  17. As predicted, it had nothing to do with connectivity. Here's how I fixed it.

In Windows 7, go into C:\Users\<username>\Appdata\Local\ and delete the NCSoft folder.

If the Launcher hasn't been uninstalled, uninstall it and reinstall after making sure C:\Users\<username>\Appdata\Local\NCSoft has been deleted.
  18. Deleted this link, it's not needed anymore.
  19. Except for the fact that I monitor my wireless connection. It normally hits between 243 and 300 mbps for Wireless N, and the actual physical distance separating the router and my adaptor is, oh, about eight feet. Vertical, so there's a little interference from the ceiling, but the thing is, if connectivity WERE an issue, I would be seeing these kinds of drops in other games. I'm not.

And using the NCSoft diagnostic tool, there's less than 4% packet loss round trip to and from the NCSoft servers. In fact, you know what? I'm going to post that.

And maybe you can spot something I don't.
  20. Removing VMware had no effect. Removing the Nvidia firewall had no effect. I cannot connect directly to the router; It's on a different floor, I do not have a couple hundred feet of cable, and I am not about to move my computer into the owner's home office.

I very much doubt it is a connectivity issue; I can connect in Safe Mode, as I said in the first post, but I cannot uncheck that "safe mode" box and have the client load.
  21. Yes, those are the most up to date sound drivers available for that device.

Yes, that is 266.58 of the video drivers, currently. I've tried it with every available from that to the current 280.xx driver.

  23. This issue seems to have come up out of the blue. The last time anything "structural" changed on this computer was nine days ago, and the changes were all Windows Updates. I have not installed any new software or hardware since. I am not running Precision; I'm well aware of the problems and honestly City of Heroes wouldn't get much out of it anyway.

The errors started happening yesterday, after the NCSoft Launcher problems with the servers. I am NOT going to roll back security updates to play a game.

Since then I have updated video drivers, rolled them back to earlier versions, started in safe mode, launched with UAC off, and tried to increase *just* the resolution after each step, and failed to get anywhere.

I've reinstalled from scratch twice and from CD once, I've verified and reverified and consistency checked. Other OpenGL games work just fine. Other DirectX games work fine. I've doublechecked my net connection, I've reset the router and made sure the game is getting through the firewall.
  24. It constantly gets stuck at "Loading", and will not progress to the login screen. NCSoft's Launcher is apparently working properly, but City of Heroes gets stuck in a loop, using 50% of the processor without progressing.

I CAN launch in Safe Mode, however, any attempt to increase the resolution from the crappy 800x600 base or launching in not-Safe Mode ends up with getting stuck at "Loading" again.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? Other games work just fine, including competing MMORPG titles.

I've gotten through all the recommended tech support steps, submitted a ticket, run through multiple diagnostic scans, followed the steps tech support suggested, but now they're out of the office and non-responsive.

I've got an evga GTX465 with 1 gig of RAM, I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64, 8 gb of RAM and a 9550 Intel Core2 Quad. Up to today I have NEVER had a problem with City of Heroes.
  25. So no more overgrown Jawas? Good. Mostly.
