He was created by the Cryptic Studios staff as part of a blaster archetype walkthrough that was intended to show prospective fans what the character creation and power assignment process would be like as well as what blasters would be like as an archetype.

What makes Flashfire more than just historically interesting? Well, if you've run SSA 2.1 (or you clicked through and read his bio already) then you might recognize someone new in town who is closely related to Prince Flashfire:

That's right: Wavelength is his mother! Suddenly after nearly nine years Flashfire gets promoted from obscure made-up example to hip and current modern day lore. One has to wonder what he's up to, these days.

There were other archetype walkthroughs back in the day. Herald for instance, whose bio has some interesting implications for the world of Paragon City if it could be considered canon.

Where are those "walkthrough" characters now, and what are they up to in 2012? Perhaps Wavelength is merely the first of several "long lost" characters that are primed to reappear in Paragon City after all of these years. Time will tell...

    *EDIT*

For the curious, here is the "classic" Archetypes page with links to all of the original archetype walkthroughs. Sadly, the Wayback doesn't ever seem to have captured the tanker walkthrough. Thanks to First Contact, however, we do still have a record of his bio: Dreadnought.
This is a funny coincidence, but I was playing earlier and saw a contact in Founder's Falls who I didn't remember seeing before. I flew on over and, if I remember correctly, it was the same Prince Flashfire that you're talking about. If you're looking, I think he was on one of the bridges across the Red River north of the train station. It stuck out because the bio for the contact mentioned his relationship to Wavelength.
  2. I don't see it as that big of a deal. As several people have already pointed out, it's not the first set that VIP's have had to pay for. With 400 points a month included with my subscription, I can wait a couple of months to get the set. In the meantime there have been plenty of things released that I haven't even looked at to fill the time.

I'm more interested in seeing different skins for MM pets developed (I think that has a better chance than total customization for them)! That's an easy way to offer more options with the current sets.
  3. I am definitely a fan of this latest content! As a (relatively) new dad, the solo arcs allow me to play at my own pace when I can sneak in a few minutes of "me time". I'm certainly looking forward to the next release; I can't get enough of this stuff!
  4. Like Willowpaw, I'm not able to compare to actual in-game art right now, but if memory serves on the artwork, I think that they are pretty generic versions of real life equipment.

The quad-barrel anti-aircraft guns resemble the Soviet ZPU's. The Vanguard tanks rolling around the RWZ with the rounded turrets look like futuristic Chinese Type 62 tanks from the Cold War era. I can't remember if the helicopters have 2 main rotors, but if they do then the CH-46 is about the only real-life example as Willowpaw pointed out. The shadows I occasionally see on the ground now that Galaxy City has been smashed look like they might have been cast by a passing AH-64 Apache, but I haven't seen any passing by I when I look up...

Hope this helps! Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
  5. Congratulations! Remember that a lifetime together is pretty long and that there are good times and bad. As long as both of you are committed to making things work, you shouldn't have any problems that you're unable to overcome together.

Good luck and I hope your kids will enjoy playing as much as you do!
  6. Steelclaw, you continue to deliver!

    You forgot to add:
Don't tell her that you make female toons because you prefer the "view" when you play.
(I learned that one through experience!)
  7. Awesome thread! I actually felt moved to creep out of the shadows and comment on how fun this one is!

I vote for cake, pie, AND donuts! I already have a hat.

    Finally!

    Congrats!
One day, if the game's around long enough and I get to play enough, I hope to hit that goal, too! Overall, even though my focus is lacking, I want to get a 50 of each AT, a 50 in each power set (primary and secondary), and a 50 on each server. Right now, all I have are a Tank, Blaster, and MM on one server.
Given how much I get to play nowdays, I might get done sometime in 2145...

They'll allow Europeans access to the U.S. servers?
  10. Just to be different from all you guys listing features, I'd like to seemore development on "The Coming Storm" plotline.
Along with that, a Moon Zone...
  11. Isn't CoX already distinguished?

If the newer superhero MMO's are being compared to CoX, doesn't that indicate that the dev team has set the standard that must be met or surpassed for the others to be considered a success?

Since CO is being referred to as "CoX2", it seems to me that they didn't meet or exceed that standard enough to step out from the shadow of CoX. Are other fantasy MMO's often referred to as "WOW2" or "UO2"? Are other sci-fi MMO's referred to as "SWG2" or "EVE2"? I haven't heard so (but I don't know everything!).
  12. Right now, I'm looking more at changing the colors on some of my existing alts. Black flames for one of my corruptors and yellow/gold/white energy blasts are things that I've been waiting for.
What sets are being proliferated anyway? Once GR comes out, I have my eye on the pistol and demon summoning sets...
  13. I like the idea. More options is almost always a good thing. Although some asymmetrical costume pieces exist, it would be nice to make any pattern/option assymetrical. Besides, it would help me get over my OCD issue when I try to match the existing options with power animations.

Another option along the same lines that would be nice (but probably way too much work) would be to be able to select your hero's dominant hand. Holding weapons in the other hand would add an extra touch of personalization to the game.

That being said, all of these ideas are merely cosmetic, not really effecting gameplay.
  14. Although I like the name of my first character, Star Engine- an Inv/EM tanker, I have to go with one of my others for the coolest. It's Thought Bubbles- a Mind/FF controller.

    iPhone App

I, too, think that an iPhone app would be great. I think it'll be a long time before we see the ability to actually play the game from our phones, but we might be able to access our WW or BM accounts from there or handle admin stuff for our accounts. It'd definitely be nice to have an options for the forums to be optimized for iPhone viewing.
  16. Just to add my 2 cents... I'm checking from my iPhone and so far I'm impressed. I do wonder what I'm missing compared to viewing from an actual PC but it looks nice so far. I understand the desires of some of the other users for more features but simple stuff works great for a guy like me. I also understand that some people might want the old style back because it's what they were used to and comfortable with. They're not wrong (it's their opinion) but sometimes you've gotta roll with the changes!
  17. I just got my first one last night before bed:

    Star Engine; Inv/EM Tanker

and like a good altoholic I immediately started a Peacebringer and a Warshade on another server (since all my slots here on Freedom are full)!

For now I think I'll try getting one of my villains to 50 so I can start some SoA's, too! Ultimately, I want to get one of each AT to 50; next will be each powerset.
