    A long Night

((This is an introduction to some more my r/p story, i quite liked it so i have posted it on the creative forums, i shall also post it on the rp forums but please anything you can do to help me with my writing etc. would be helpful with my classes starting again soon, thanks in advance))

The doors opened as Jack stepped into the class room, he nodded to a student near the wall who nodded back and switched on the lights revealing 20 young heroes sitting in rows before him, each wearing different costumes and playing with different powers and auras which quickly disappeared when he entered the room.

When he reached his desk Jack surveyed the class, they varied in age from 15 to 25 year olds, all of them budding young heroes and agents of the Brotherhood of Shadow. Once he had made sure he had their attention he smiled at the class and without warning span and threw a ball of shadow at one of the students at the back of the class. The student raised her palm and stopped the attack which slowly dissipated as she exerted her powers.

Jack smiled and sent a quick flurry of shadow like missiles at other students in the class, each one employing their powers to stop, reverse or avoid the projectiles. As he worked his way along the class he noted one girl, she was about 20 he assumed, recently in off the streets and still learning to confine her powers. She called herself Soulstruck, although Jack insisted on calling her Ms Nightingale just because of the looks she would give him. Her powers were quickly maturing and she easily deflected the blasts of energy he sent at her, creating a wall of fire around herself without even raising an eyebrow. Content with the class Jack turned to write on the board, as he turned he heard a thump to his left and looked to see an arrow just above his shoulder.

Quickly disintegrating the arrow Jack spun to the class and in one fluid movement threw a bolt of shadow at the perpetrator, the bolt hit before Evee has a chance to react, knocking her off her chair and onto the floor to the merriment of the class members. She smiled as Jack offered his hand to help her up whispering ‘better luck next time lass.’ He then turned back to the board, sure of no more interruptions.

When the class had finished Jack went outside to the grounds and looked out over the city, the lights winked in the distance and the cars flowed along the roads like blood along the veins of the city. As he watched he felt someone move beside him, it was Soulstruck, he smiled when he saw her ‘well done in class today, but try not to leave yourself open after an attack like that, good job hiding your bow though, I assume it was in another dimension by the time I turned around?’ the girl smiled, she definitely had promise, she was different from the others, Jack grinned, she was like himself in many ways, she had worked her way up off the streets until she had come to attention of the brotherhood who had taken her in as long as they promised to pay for her parents well being.

After a few moments the girl went over to a table and climbed on top assuming a meditative position as flames licked past her face and over her body. Jack smiled and left her be, he understood the meaning of privacy during his meditation. Slowly he made his way down through the maze of passages within the school, he passed many students and occasionally some teachers, all returning to their dorms or too extra curricular classes after a hard days work and training. The brotherhood insisted on the extreme training and classes within their organisation, it helped keep discipline and breed links between students which made partners easier to pick after graduation.

He worried for them, many were very young and many were not sure of the extent of their powers, some may only be minor agents in the city with only the most basic powers to keep themselves out of harms way whilst others would become overseers of the population, always hidden and watching for the threats from within that the Brotherhood had been made to combat. He sighed; recent threats from both the Freakshow and the Circle of Thorns had meant increased security around the grounds. Jack himself had recently been attacked twice without warning on the streets of paragon due to said issues. He feared for their safety, they all knew of the danger involved in entering the academy but he imagined that very few of them were aware of the finality of death; all knew people died, and each had their own way of coping with it although in a real fight he knew this would not be enough.

As he made his way down through the passages he passed into the older section of the school, the walls were made of ancient stone and aside from occasional torches there was no source of light. The shadows flickered on the walls as Jack walked, he felt very much at home here, he was a night person and this kind of atmosphere always made him feel at peace with the world.

Eventually he came to a fork in the tunnels, he took the left passage way and came to a large vault in the bottom of the caves, on either side were hollows in which the dead of the academy were placed, he looked up, the ceiling was hardly visible, the Brotherhood was ancient and many people had died for their cause, every single one of them rested here. Once he was past the vault Jack entered a smaller room which was illuminated by a large bonfire set into the ground, above it floated a small girl, she had long black hair and wore a plain white dress. The girl smiled when he came in and asked, ‘what’s wrong?’

Jack slumped into a stone chair and conjured a glass of whiskey out of the air, downing it before talking, the liquid burned his throat and he smiled, the first time he had drunk this it had been called fire water and people thought it was evil. ‘There are so many of us now, do you think it is enough?’
‘There are never enough you know that’
‘But the more people we bring into this the more could get hurt’
‘We do not make them join and they know the risks’
‘But still…,’ Jack groaned and looked at the little girl, ‘You know we are becoming less and less hidden, people know of our existence, people follow us looking for this place and it’s secrets, they never leave us alone.’
‘I know Jack, soon we will have to hide again, but right now we need members and we need to be slightly more open if we are to be trusted.’

Jack sighed and looked at the markings on the floor surrounding the fire, it was a lot like an ancient sundial, all the points marked with different animals, currently the fire cast its shadow upon the wolf. Jack grinned; he was amazed how people could adapt to things, he had looked at this a few years ago and was shocked, now, almost nothing shocked him. He looked up at the girl again, ‘But what if…’ He was cut off in mid sentence.
‘What if nothing Jack, the cannot find us, they shall not find us, I am making sure, it would take one big spell to get in here and I have felt no power gatherings that could effect us.’
‘I know Soloquial… but I care for them, 7 have died in the last month, it can’t go on like this, although we may need to be open for members if people are dying no-one is going to want to join’ She sighed, ‘I know’

Jack broke the whiskey glass in his fist and watched as it dissolved slowly I the palm of his hand, ‘I had better be off, I am expected back at the school.’ The girl nodded and Jack stood and began to walk back up to the school. When he reached the main passages he strode back out into one of the main halls from behind a tapestry and turned to see Srgt. Stone running to catch up with him. The sergeant was huge, he still wore the militaristic clothing that Jack had seen during the second war, nothing much of his friend had changed, he was just over 8 foot tall and still as blunt as the giant hammer he liked to use.

    ‘Where you been Jack?’
‘Here and there, how have you been my old friend?’ Stone grunted
‘Same as normal, still kicking [censored] and finding hidden plots.’ Jack smiled
‘I see your attitude hasn’t changed, how have the students been?’
‘Ok, ok, that one you brought in a few days ago is a feisty little darstard isn’t she? I was teaching sports and she set the ruddy ball on fire’ Jack grinned
‘That she is, notice anything else about her?’ Stone smiled, he knew his friend, he was reverting back to their old teacher/student roles.
‘She’s very good looking… that what you’re going for?’ Jack laughed
    ‘Be serious now’
‘Well, she is a lot like I was, same sense of rebellion, but the way her mind works, the way she leads the other pupils, the way she mocks me, reminds of me of you.’ Jack smiled.
‘She does doesn’t she, there is definitely something special in that girl’ Stone sighed
‘I’d better be off; I need to get some sleep before I go on patrol, night Jack’
    ‘Night stone’

As Jack woke the next morning he looked out over the city and stretched, yawning, what a nice day he thought as he put on his armour and jumped from the window, catching himself after several storeys he flew in the general direction of a well known Circle ground, he hoped to stop off for some repairs to his armour but he ignored it and flew on towards his destination.

The night was cold and he could see the more night inclined heroes at work on the streets below, quietly he wondered if Wynd was on patrol tonight, he shook his head and concentrated on the task ahead. He landed silently on the hill; the tell-tale green flames flickered at the edge of his vision as he heard the evil incantations of the circle Madness mages. Sucking in a deep lungful of air he charged around the corner and punched the first robed figure he saw in the face, picking the man up and chucking him into the mage who appeared to be in charge. Vaulting over a couple more minions he jumped at the Madness mage assaulting him with a bombard of punches and kicks aimed at the head and groin, they may be evil little gits but the were still human.

As the body of the mage slumped to the floor he surveyed his work and went about examining the bodies looking for any sign of where they may of come from or who had sent them, he found a few useful pieces of memorabilia and a couple interesting weapons that he would take back for examination but nothing out of the ordinary. As he turned he noticed the flames beginning to clear and in the midst of them he found a hole, a tear in the air, Jack could pretty much fit his arm through but nothing else, whatever it was the thing radiated bad energy and he grunted beginning the incantation to close the rip. As he stood there incanting he heard a noise behind and span quickly breaking off his spell just in time to raise a barrier between himself and a barrage of mystical energies.

Before him stood no less than a hundred mages, minions and horrors, all of them charging directly at him, he had obviously found something fairly major. He applied his shields and leapt at the opponents. He methodically worked his way through about 5 before he was swamped by an entire mass of cloaked freaks, however hard he fought he could not fight them off, the more he killed the more the mages summoned to attack him, he knew he would soon tire, he could not hold up so many complex shields for so long, he knew he should of waited and got a team together before going on patrol.

Slowly Jack was worn down, each hit bringing him closer to unconsciousness, the ground around him was littered in dead bodies and spectral essence yet still they kept coming, there seemed no end to the demons. As Jack began the spells necessary to escape he continued to try and fight off the hordes of enemies he faced, noticing his attempts to retreat the mages averted their concentration from maintaining their minions to trying to break through Jack’s barriers. As they were slowly worn down Jack heard a cry from the hill, as far as he could hear it went something like ‘Get off my friend you <censored> little <censored> <censored>.’

Jack had never been so relieved to see Stone and more to his amazement Soulstruck was also with him calmly firing arrows into the mages who ran screaming in circles as the flames burnt through their robes and seared the skin. As soon as Stone entered the combat the battle was pretty much decided, Jack broke off his teleportation spell and resumed his attack on the demoralised spirits. Once he had finished them off he looked up to see another mage die with an arrow protruding from his back and Stone finish off another with a swing of his giant stone mallet, knocking the little man off the cliff and into the waters below.

Jack walked over to his two friends and Stone saluted as he came by, Jack grinned seeing the sarcastic look on the old soldiers face. ‘How,’ Stone asked, ‘Did our great and mysterious leader get himself into so much trouble this time?’ Jack sighed, ‘I wasn’t paying attention.’ Stone grinned and followed Jack up the hill, when he reached the top he stood before Soulstruck and looked at her; she was looking pleased with herself yet unsure of what would be said to her.

Jack smiled and touched her on the forehead, as he removed his hand he could see the small burn he made, it was in the shape of a wolf’s head and Evee smiled broadly as she followed Jack into the skies as Stone ran below. The mark of the wolf was both a reward to exceptional students and a pass into the most advanced classes in the school, it meant Soulstruck was now official a Shadow agent of the Brotherhood and what’s more, Jack’s apprentice, he smiled, he knew he had made the right choice he just hoped that Evee wouldn’t do anything stupid.

As he flew back to the academy his mind returned to his other problems, he had no idea what was going to happen, the attack was a sure sign that the circle would soon be making their move but with what and when Jack didn’t know, but as he looked back at Evee flying behind him and Stone running beneath him Jack knew that he would have friends in the struggle. He felt something land on his shoulder and looked to see Soloquial sitting there, she smiled and disappeared again as Jack entered the academy and went to his class, hoping the students wouldn’t of taken advantage of his late arrival
  10. Soulstruck: Young female, bout 24, feisty i think is a nice description, any possible suitors must be able to put up with spontaneous combustion, burning couches, arrows holes in the wall and frequent bursts of attention and affection... no strong religous people preferred as of divine manifestations and possible calls to other countries on business... likes ice cream and watching movies, Evelyn Nightingale, otherwise known as Evee

Jack Whitechaple, commander of the 45th english patrol unit on the beaches of normandy sludged his way through the ever increasing quagmire of mud, dead bodies and excrement. The fighting had lasted much of the day, the Nazi's had been holding off the advances of the allies but eventually they had broken through and were advancing from the beaches.
Jack looked up, it was raining, typical, it always seemed to be raining here, the rain soaked through your boots and into your feet growing interesting plant life if you left it too long. He looked back at his unit, they were at half numbers since the last attack and were tired and afraid, a lot of them knew that they had to do what they had to do and so trudge through the mud after their commander.
They were approaching a small hill and had had reports of a military outpost on top, with three west facing machineguns, approximately 10 people manning them and as many grenades. The 45th assembled in some trees at the bottom of the hill, if they were lucky the nazis hadn't noticed them yet and they could get a clean break to some cover half way up the hill before the machine guns opened fire. The soldiers discarded their heavy baggage and ran softly up the hill, made hard by the mud that went up past their ankles getting deeper with each step. After a few seconds of running they heard voices from the hill, they increased their pace but when they were about a quarter of the way up, they opened fire, mowing down Jack's regiment, men dying everywhere, their bodies sinking into the mud some drowning before dying from their bullet wounds.
By the time they reached the cover half way up the hill Jack was exhausted and his unit severely diminished, he also knew that since they had stopped by now almost every machine gun up there would be pointing at the ruins which they hid behind. Jack reached behind his back and pulled out a grenade, he pulled the pin and through it at the gun emplacement, barely getting back behind the walls before the machinegun started up again. There was a few seconds silences and the an explosion along with cries of chargrin as Jack and the regiment cheered seeing some sandbags and one of the machine guns roll down the hill.
Jack signalled to the troop to stop their cheering and he waited for what he deemed to be an appropriate time to charge. As he did so something flew past his shoulder and landed with a squelch in the mud, he turned to pick up the grenade and through it back but by now it had already begun to sink into the mud beneath him, many others were also frantically looking around for grenades whilst the germans laughed on top of the gun emplacement. Jack began to run but all the grenades exploded at once, throwing up mud and dirt along with the rest of the ruins into the sky, when the muck cleared Jack was half buried and surrounded by screaming or crying men, some missing arms or legs, some dead altogether, some like Jack had escaped the carnage but most were half buried underneath the mud, sure that if they moved the machineguns would shoot through the now crippled cover and annihilate the rest of the team.
As Jack lay there, his mind racing through possible circumstances or manoeuvers he could try he looked back at one of the grenades craters, although the mud was slowly slopping back into it Jack could definitly see some stairs and before the mud could cover the whole or the nazis open fire he leapt into the crater landing on some ancient steps. Some others followed him, he instructed them to stand guard and walked farther down into the... whatever it was. The tunnel was long and strait going at about a 45 degree angle downwards, the walls were stone and covered in runes that glowed slightly casting eery shadows across the floor. In niches on the side there were statues of creatures and men, of statesman, ancient greeks, even hitler and some of the Nazi heroes, looking off at other tunnels Jack assumed that every hero must have some form of statue here.
As he walked further down he came to a doorway above which were carved the words 'Gauisus Somnium' and on one side of the door was a statue of an unrecognisable hero, possibly a minor hero from paragon, and on the other side was a statue of himself, as Jack gazed at it he saw its lips move and a voice echoe through the cave, 'enter'. Jack did.
Inside the room everything was lit in a half light from torches along the edge of the walls, the floor was covered in bones, the walls lined in skulls, but not the arrangement of say a mad man or avid collector, it appeared mournful, and as Jack checked the area he heard a sound coming softly over the boneyard, increasing in volume and filling his down trodden heart with a warm sense of being, as if finally he had done something universally right.
As he walked further into the room he saw, sitting ontop of a mountain of bones a young girl, floating slightly off the floor and playing a small set of panpipes, she looked to be around six but she had large wings that stretched across the entire room making, as Jack had previously thought, the back wall, but upon peering under it he realised that the room probably went on for miles. The wings were black and the small girl held the apparently effortlessly as she played her song. She wore a small dress, made of flowers and one rose was in her hair, it had black petals and it almost seemed to grow from her glossy black hair.
Jack sat and listened, mesmerised by the playing until the girl finished, the panpipes dissappeared and she stepped forward towards Jack, the further she moved towards him the older she became until she was about the same age as Jack when she stood before him. When she reached him she touched him lightly on the forehead and mutter a couple of words. Within him Jack could feel his pulse quicken, his lungs move slower and all his hunger and pain and sadness evaporate into the dry air of the tomb. He closed his eyes and felt the changes within him, he went inside his body and saw his blood changing, no longer was it a red liquid but now a black gas like shadows that flowed through his veins, his heart beated slower and so did his lungs and his mind was more much more relaxed and intellegent. As he returned to his normal state of mind he opened his eyes and saw the girl as she was when he had first saw her, sitting on the bones. He really wanted to be able to see himself, he knew that if so much had happened inside him then surely the outside must be different and as easy as that he was looking at himself from a third person view.
He was taller, more muscular, and as far as Jack could see, still changing. His nose elongated along with his chin and became a snout, hair grew all over his body, he could even hear the bones in his legs snap as the contorted into strange shapes before settling down and staying at a final horrible angle. He had became something of a dog creature, his fur was a glossy black like the hair of the girl, his arms were longer and he was lent slightly forward as if he was a dog that had just got off its two feet. Then the same voice said to him.
'go, do what you must do and make me proud Gauisus Somnium,' the girl smiled as Jacks mind returned to his body and when he continued to stand motionless she smiled, 'go on,' before turning and muttering to herself, 'stupid puppy'.
Before jack knew it he had burst out of the mud that now covered the entrance and past the 3 guards he had set there who screamed in terror as black wolf flowed past them, now on all fours and aside from being bigger, more muscular and faster most definitly a wolf.

    ***

The gunners laughed, chatting in German and imitating the screams of those they had killed below, jumping around the place or swearing over the loss of their machine gun which they had featched back and were now trying to fix. One gunner named Rudolf Hess laughed, he was proud of his name, it was that of his hero and as he laughed with his friends he looked down the hills at the ruins and saw, running from them, a black wolf. He jumped and called to his friends who manned the machine guns by instinct, they laughed when they saw the wolf and one of them opened fire they laughed and opened fire, the wolf kept on running and the bullets past right through it, even when the other gun began firing the wolf kept coming, running across the ground on top of the mud, its paws hardly touching the surface.
When it reached the barricade it leaped and landed on Rudolf ripping out hsi throat and spinning in on fluid motion, in much the same way he ran between the other 8 men, ripping out hamstrings and throats until only one remained cowering in a corner sitting in a puddle of his own [censored]. As the wolf walked towards him he changed, slowly becoming an allied trooper, he looked much like the commander of the troop they had just fired upon but he couldn't be, he was taller, had nocolour to his eyes and was surrounded by a mist of shadow which flickered as faces formed in it laughing at the young man who cowered in the corner. He racked his mind thinking of all the allied heroes he knew, for he had never heard of this guy, he put his hands up in a sign of truce hoping that this guy was also like other allied heroes who were famed for taking prisoners, unfortunately this was not the case.
The man lowered his gun but reached out his hand which was now clad in shadow which had rolled down his arm and engulfed it as it moved slowly towards the terrified soldier. He screamed once as Jack plunged his hand into the mans chest, breaking through the rib bones and grabbing the heart, he could feel it beating and ripped it from the mans chest, the mans face seemed surprised and his mouth was open, Jack shoved the heart down his throat and then plunged one finger through his forehead and into his brain, the result was gruesome and Jack used the blood to wright a message on the walls in German, it said quite clearly 'leave me along', apparently pleaed with his work Jack changed back to a wolf and bounded down the hill, through the tunnels and back to the cavern.

    ***

Still sitting there was the young girl, Jack now knew her name, she was Soloquial, a minor and unknown goddess previously worshipped by the aztecs. The girl smiled when she saw Jack and spoke to him, her mouth moved but it was nothing like the words that she spoke, it was like bad dubbing on a Japanese film.
She spoke in his mind saying. 'so, have you made your choice? is this the way you will be? the aztecs followed the path you are on, giving in to desire and the will to destroy, they became fanatics and i left them, i would not accept their human sacrifices. Or will you take a better path, will you control yourself, will you control your anger and your desires and use your new powers to better mankind? Not many people are given the same choice as you, many know the answer straight away and yet you... you think about it... as if you don't know in your heart which you are this either means you are very stupid or intellegent enough to realise that no man truly knows what he is inside.' Jack grinned and said, 'i serve you, as i have done since the beginning of time oh my whimsical little divinity. Soloquial smiled, 'i'll like this one,' and then spoke louder, 'so your already accepting your role, most people take years to discover their past locked within their minds and yet here you are and in one brief moment of slaughter you know why you are here and who you were?' The girl grinned as the Soldier nodded, 'and you have made your choice,' the soldier nodded again, the girl laughed and ran down the bones jumping and dissapearing into Shadows reappearing on Jacks shoulder smiling happily. Jack strode out of the temple signalling to his soldiers who followed wordlessly, he strode to the dead scattered around and healed those who could be, burying those who were too far gone or putting them out of their misery.
  19. think it is worth putting on the creative forum for some others to take a glance at? and i like the gore too, it is so much more realistic then, 'he killed him' i have always found that thinking how angry i would be helps, something i try to avoid is not being real, for example in some books one character survives at all odds, the books i like is where he can die, and where (in many books he does) i think it is more lifelike and makes you more familiar with the characters

<-- not that i would know lol

what is the general opinion of the public of alts in rp? i assume most of you have at least one alt? but is it worth rping with him/her, i have one main atm and 2 other possible characters (one WS and one a dark/dark def) in the back of my mind, just wondering if it is worth rping or if i should just stick with Jack and not bother with an rp alt?

Something i been thinking bout for a while i just wanted the general opinion of my peers lol
