  1. Also, in regards to the "Special items" people are referring to with the different boxed sets, some of them you can buy as a separate pack from the NCsoft store as well.

For instance, if you go with the Architect Edition, you can buy the special items from the Good Versus Evil Edition from the NCsoft store, and get both perks on the same account.

I personally have all the extra doohickies on my account, save for the Architect Edition (no need for me to get it, since I already have all the Super Boosters). I ended up buying a Collector's Edition box off of Ebay about a month or so after I started playing (which was about 2 years after release), just to get the extra goodies.

EDIT: Also, you probably know by now, but when you subscribe to the game you will have full access to both City of Heroes and City of Villains. Just thought I'd mention it, in case you didn't know. ;o

    Criminal record?

It's actually a pretty common thing. It serves to "blur the line" between good and evil; paint it with a few shades of grey. It's particularly prevalent in superhero-type things to help convey the moral ambiguity that goes along with being a hero.

Sure, you could save that kid from the speeding train heading right for him. But what's to say he won't blow up a train in the future, killing everyone on board?

As others have said, the people around the Vigilante/Rogue don't necessarily drop everything and become all buddy-buddy with him. They accept him, but they are always prepared for, and are usually expecting, a knife in the back.

Think of it...like confidential informants. They are criminals, but the cops work with them to try and catch the "bigger fish" that the CI works for. Why catch a single dope dealer when you can wipe out the entire ring? That sort of thing.
  3. Alright. But why is Crushing Impact so bad?

EDIT: Okay, so I decided to go with your more expensive build option, since I already have the Oblit sets for LR and SC. I also got a few more of the IOs...finished Fire Ball, nearly Fire Blast (would be finished but one piece wasn't for sale in WW so I have a bid up for it).

I just tested it in a mish and it performed MUCH better. I killed quicker so I was able to keep my Endurance up easier with the faster Insp drops. I also rarely went below 50% HP. Can't wait to see how it goes when I have the entire build.

Thanks for the help. Any further tips would be appreciated.

People farm for a number of reasons. All farming, however, involves repeating the same mission over-and-over-and-over-and-over again.

From a farmers point of view
    1. Want a certain kind of salvage? Find an enemy that drops that salvage, find a mission with that enemy, then run that mission over and over again.
    2. Want merits? Run taskforce over and over again, but don't run the same one more than once a day.
By-and-large, you aren't much of a hero or villain if you are going to spend your time tending crops.

To the OP :: Don't farm - play the game

If you want inf, get out there and hit the streets. Get a big team going, and do some difficult missions. The inf will start to roll in. You don't have to make it boring by running the same mission over and over again. There are plenty of missions to run. You might even realize that you are having fun - I certainly hope that was why you were playing to begin with.

If you want to make big bucks, then stop farming and start learning about the market - that is where the big loot is. The farmers supply the market with the goods that I get rich with.

Many farmers know me as an vehement anti-farmer. That's true.
Farming is bad for the game. Farming burns out plenty of players.
If you are farming and think there is nothing new to do in the City, that's your own fault for running the same missions over and over again, isn't it?

Forget the farming and play the game. Your character is cool because you are playing them not because what kinds of gear you can stick on them. If you keep playing them, you will get more inf and drops that are unique to the way that you play - making the character even more special because you made it happen by adventuring.
    Thanks, but no thanks.

    A) Your definition of fun is not necessarily everyone's definition of fun. The majority of my Elec/SD Scrapper's career has been done in the same handful of AE missions. And you know what? I WAS and AM having fun.

    B) I've done the "play the game" thing. It's old. I don't want to do it anymore. It doesn't interest me.

    C) You say farming is bad for the game. If it keeps me subscribed where I otherwise would not be, I don't see how that's bad for the game.

The Numina's, Miracle, and Regenerative Tissue Uniques will run about 300M Inf combined.

This is not to dissuade you from your planned final build in any way, it's just to alert you that in no way, shape, or form is that anything less than an expensive build. It's for reasons like these that I use "finished my build" as the new "made it to 50".
That's why I'm on these forums.

I don't know what's expensive, and what's not. I've been told LotG and Numina's and such are expensive, but I don't know what the cheaper replacement is. D:
  6. I took the build you posted an tweaked it a bit, Tonality. Mainly to make it less expensive, and to utilize IOs I already have (Such as Crushing Impact).

  7. *blank look on face* Which Accolades are those again?
  8. I'm about as poor as poor comes. Any tips to lessen the cost while still being an efficient farmer? ;o
  9. I don't know. I just took what the other person put in. :P

I assumed it was because the set bonus was the most desirable option.
  10. Alright, I switched it up a bit more. This is what I got now.

  11. Alright. I'll try out the changes you suggested and see if it works out any better.

I guess this is what I get for making my first 50 on both Hero and Villain side crappy farming characters (FS Emp Defender and horribly built MM). :P

Alright I've been fooling around with Mids and this is what I have now.

You could increase your Ranged defense by moving the Fighting pool up in your build, and 6-slotting Weave with Red Fortune (+2.5 to Ranged), or you could get 3.13% more AoE defense by 5-slotting Tough with the Aegis set. You may also have some more slots floating around if you pulled some out of CJ.
Yeah, Samurai is an AE farm...from what I hear, the only one with the requirements to not get hosed by the Devs.

Here's my data chunk. Sorry, new to the whole exporting Mid's builds thing. lol

Hasten. Really, no farming Elec/SD should be without it.

Then I'd use the other power choice from the Med pool on Physical Perfection.

Combat Jumping is severely overslotted; there's really no need for it to have that much Defense, as the base value is really low (1.75, if memory serves).

I'd swap Focused Accuracy for Conserve Power, and slot the Kismet +toHit in CJ.

That's all I've got for a quick read.
So what should I do with the Gaussian stuff in Focused Accuracy at the moment?

What are you farming? Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but my impression is that most of the time the term "Farming" is speaking to obtaining purples. Or maybe farming tickets...but in that case they usually say, "farming tickets."
This is the build I've been following. I have no clue if it's good or not. I got it off the forums. I have some of the IOs, not all of them. I got the full sets for LR, SC, Stam, Charged Brawl, and Focused Accuracy.

And I've been trying to farm AE missions. Samurai, and things like them. I can kill them, and they have a tough time killing me, but it goes very very slowly. My LR and SC will usually be recharged by the time I've finished taking out the group.

  15. So I am beginning to discover how important IOs are. The problem is, I don't have a clue how to go about getting influence.

I got an Elec/SD Scrapper to 50 yesterday, and got him some IOs. He can kinda sorta farm, but it goes quite slow, and I pop inspirations like a madman. Particularly when it comes to his Endurance.

So, I guess what I want to ask is, what's the best character to make that can farm quickly, preferrably with SOs?

Thanks, but I've done all that too. Didn't help.

Changing the port to 13094 helped for a while - was up to like 700kb/s - but before long it fell back down to like 40kb/s.

Yes. I've made certain the required ports are open (as described by paragon wiki/NCsoft support) and I've turned off all firewalls and antivirus programs, including Windows firewall.

I've also tried forcefully changing the port the patcher connects through, as well as the IP it connects to.

I've also tried turning off my computer, router, and modem for 60 seconds.

I've also tried flushing my DNS.

I've tried everything I can think of, except maybe a ceremonial indian dance of the dead, but nothing has helped and it's beginning to annoy me. *twitch*

I know this has been brought up before, and I've done my searching, but I'm desperate at this point.

I cannot get above like 10-40K/sec with the patcher. I'm looking at anywhere between 14-24 HOURS to complete the patch at this point.

I'm pretty sure this is not peak hours, and as far as I know there's no "Welcome Back" free weekend going on.

Is there ANYTHING I can do to speed this up? I have 16mbps internet, and normally my downloads easily reach 2mb/s.

    This is ridiculous.

Yeah, it would be nice, but since its not, I don't see me paying out any money for it either.

[/ QUOTE ]*shrug* And that's your option. There are some really nice costume parts that come with the pack too, though, yaknow.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Indeed..the costume pieces are the main reason I bought the pack, though I was surprised when I saw a 2 hour cooldown on the power.

    Wait...what?

You would have had to travel the second route anyway. How does that subtract from the time you saved from the first mission?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Fine, don't subtract it. Either way, you still only save 5.5 minutes or so every 120. I don't find that very useful. In most cases, you'd be already in IP anyway if you were running missions there.

All of this is moot anyway, PlayNC will almost certainly leave it as is, obviously they felt it was appropriate where it is, which it is, though the practicality of the power is somewhat diminished by the unusually long recharge.
  21. Okay, let's be generous with the numbers, then.

Two people start under Atlas' statue in AP, both lv 25 with 3 flight SOs in their fly power. Person A has the teleport power, Person B does not. Both heroes are going to the same mission

Person B starts out... Atlas statue to Yellow Line...30 seconds, tops. You go to Skyway City, then fly to the Green Line. 60 seconds, tops. Your mission is in the very bottom left corner of the map. Give or take 4 minutes, tops. So, you spend about 5.5 minutes traveling. Somewhat painful, but certainly doable.

Person B starts out. Teleport, takes him a couple seconds. A friend PMs him after the mission and asks him for help with a mission he has in AP. But, him mission transporter power still has an hour and a half to cool down (this is assuming the mission he just did took him half an hour, which is being generous, depending on the mission). So, he has to fly all the way back up to the Kings Row entrance, then over to the yellow line, and then finally to the mission's entrance. Easily 4 minutes, possibly more.

Essentially, the 5.5 minutes you saved from AP -> IP was reduced to about 1.5 minutes saved because of the power's CD.

Now, granted, these numbers may not be completely accurate but they are close, I flew the course described on my defender while typing this.

EDIT: @StormKidd, it will push back your next renew date by 30 days. So, if your card is scheduled to be charged on Jan 20th, when you apply the serial for the Mac edition to your account, the next bill date will be Feb 20th instead, and you'll unlock the Valkyrie set and Mission Transporter power ingame.

    [ QUOTE ]
Well thats not how it was originally advertised to us.

[/ QUOTE ]It was advertised as a power that teleports you to the mission door. That's what we got.

A five minute cooldown would be insanely overpowered. That's up every single mission. If you can't see the problem with that...well, then I wouldn't really be that surprised. But most people would.

    [ QUOTE ]
Agreed. 2 hours is way too much for a power like this. Even 30 minutes would be kinda pushing it, but it would be acceptable. 2 hours renders it a basically useless power.

[/ QUOTE ]...how does that make it useless? Just because you can't use it for every single mission doesn't make the times you can use it be very nice. Like bypassing the 2-mile trip to the far corner of IP.

    [/ QUOTE ]
By the time you're doing missions in IP, you have a travel power most likely decked out with at least SOs. You save MAYBE a couple of minutes every 2 HOURS using this power. That, to me, is useless.

    [ QUOTE ]
It's not something that's going to get you to every single mission. It's not designed for that.

It's designed for the times you have to go from the far corner of Dark Astoria to the far end of IP. Or the times you can't find the mission in the underground tunnels of Faultline/Brickstown.

This isn't to say a lower time wouldn't be nice...but I really don't see it happening.

[/ QUOTE ]Well thats not how it was originally advertised to us. My thinking on this was that it would be a perk that can be used to to tp you to every mission. I was thinking it would have like a 5 minute recharge or something. That in itself would make it worth the money spent I am willing to live with a longer recharge than that but not more than 30 minutes. They need to address this ASAP.

  24. Am I the only one that feels 2 hours is a bit excessive a cooldown for the Mission Transporter power?
  25. Wow, I'm impressed. All I had to change were a couple settings but they did a huge world of good. I'm getting a constant 75 FPS in a mission right now, up from 30ish prior to reading this guide. Thanks for this!
