Quote:You're crazy. Apricot pie rules them all.Pies trump cakes when the pies are Pecan and Coconut Cream in my world. Cakes trump all other pies only when they are Butter Pecan, Coconut, and French Vanilla.
Blueberry, Blackberry, Peach, and Apple Cobblers trump ALL!!!
With that said, I respectfully request my birthday icon to randomly reflect one of the cobblers above as to help me decide which one I should have on my birthday. You have 8 months to figure out how to do this as 2011 will be a milestone birthday for me as I hit the old age of 35 years. -
It is free to play now. There are benefits to paying though: http://www.ddo.com/vip

It looks like there's nothing new this year.

Quote:Actually, if you have Superjump you can hit the speed cap for jumping and get a gold without any outside buffs. Most of my non SJ characters that I wanted to get the badges for used their second build to get SJ, maxed it out and got the badge.I was lucky enough to haul *** JUST quick enough for a Gold Medal on the amateur slopes.
It involved using Ninja Run and Sprint... I only used NR for the Superjump qualities, however.
The only tip I have for the second course is to use SJ (or whatever jump power/buff you are using) after the teleporter to get up to speed faster. A short jump will get you back up to speed quickly. -
Quote:At SDCC2009 I was talking with one of the devs about the vet rewards, and he said that they stopped doing costume pieces because it was putting them to far out of reach of many players, and they wanted costume pieces to be something everyone would eventually be able to get. That would also include new capes and auras.Other items I would think would be great veteran rewards, but have not been awarded yet. Additional Costume Slots, Unique Colors, Unique Capes and Auras, Rename credits, additional profiles, free server transfers and additional AE publishing slots. None make the character more powerful, but allow the players to stand out and/or correct errors of the past.
I did make an interesting suggestion that he did seem to like. That was that instead of giving out exclusive costume pieces as vet rewards, they would add new craftable costume/capes/auras and the vet reward would be getting those pieces unlocked automatically. Yea I know, plenty of people have friends or connections that could get them any invention costume piece for any character they have. But sometimes it's a hassle I'd rather not have to bother with. -
Quote:Personally all I could use would have been a single free character rename. I know I could use the free transfers to shuffle the character around to do it, but it would mess up her SG status. We wanted to give out something nice for Christmas. I know this is a crazy idea, but we kinda like you guys.
We had to take the character transfer service down in order to make the change to make it free, it's not as simple as setting the price to zero. Also we have to test these things of course to make sure that the changes aren't going to do anything bad. -
Quote:Personally, I wish that some players would realize that when playing a long running MMO like CoH, the minimum system requirements need to play may change over time. Since I started playing CoH 5.5 years ago, I've been through 2 different MoBo+Processor setups and 5 different graphic cards (2 AGP, 3 PCIe). A few years ago when the specs for CoV came out I realized that my graphics card wasn't powerful enough. Did I whine and complain in the forums? No. I saved up and bought a better card. A few months ago I noticed I was having frame rate issues when the camera would zoom in on my aura heavy characters. Again, I saved up and spent a whole $70 on a new card that solved the problem (NVidia 220 with 1 GB ram).Personally, I'd like to see the game move forward and add another layer of cool graphics while retaining the old settings for old machines. And, surprise, surprise, that's what Going Rogue is going to bring.
Now I understand that some people do have limited incomes, and can't upgrade at the drop of a hat. I can't either. I have to plan ahead and save up to do any upgrade. But at this point and time if you're still using an AGP graphics card, you need to upgrade your system to one that supports PCIe. If you do some shopping around you can find a $300-$500 economy desktop with a PCIe x16 slot that would make a perfectly good gaming rig for CoH with the addition of a $50-$100 dollar graphics card. Some of those economy systems have better specs than my own gaming rig (except for the graphics card). -
Any chance we could get a different power icon for walk? Using the same one as sprint seems kinda silly.

I think the problem is that players come up with character concepts that can't be built at level 1 because you have to level up before you can unlock certain costume pieces/weapons. I can understand the frustration, especially with the Talsorian equipment which requires you to be level 35 before you can earn the merits to unlock it. Also the Cimeroran unlockables require being able to get into the Midnighters club which you can't do at level 1 either.

Quote:Actually, an arm cannon costume piece would be viable if it was restricted to powersets that would actually have one (i.e. non-weapon blast powers). However there are two problems. First is that many blasts would have to be reanimated to have them shot only come from the end of that particular arm. Second is all the whiner-babies who would start crying that the restriction ruined the character concept they came up with (the one they came up with 2 seconds after they heard about the restriction). Not until you can imagine someone using:
Dual Wielded Blades
Archery
Assault Rifles
"And the rest"
With a straight face. It's for this reason the Developers have openly regretted the Pirate Hook. Any costume piece designed needs to look good in 90%* of the situations a player would naturally put it in for it to be a reasonable request.
Sorry, but it's not a technically viable option.
*I do not remember the exact number, but Sexy Jay said they had a rough guesstimate of a percentage that fits in the above statement for costume design.
So it is possible to do, but not likely to happen anytime soon. -
Quote:Does this mean we won't be seeing Super Booster 4 & 5 till after Going Rogue comes out?**Please understand that our resources are limited because everyone is working so hard on Going Rogue, however any specific suggestions which do not get used at this time may be reconsidered later.

Actually, you could get bosses in previous years when Trick or Treating solo. It's just in previous years, getting a boss was very rare. But they did happen.
-
I could really use #11 for a quick mission I was working on. Especially since Ambushes don't have the "Required for Mission Completion" option.

Quote:I wouldn't worry about CO. I was in the closed beta. The graphics are dated, the gameplay is even more dated. Sure you can choose from more that two colors on a costume piece, but CoX has waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more costume pieces to chose from. We're getting the ability to customize our powers colors (or animations for some sets), with more being added in the future (power pools and hopefully MM pets). Plus, in CoX you aren't railroaded down a couple of mission plotlines to get anywhere. CoX gameplay has more in common with open world games like GTA then old fashion MMO's. Want to do missions, fine. Run around the city causing havoc and chaos, great. Team or Solo, your choice. Plus CoH has one thing CO doesn't have, an Atlas Park area where heroes of any level can get together and hang out. And with the new super side kicking, you'll probably see more teams form there as well.Well I just got a Champions beta key, so I guess I have something else to do, besides refresh my inbox.

Quote:/agreedYa Know!!!!!
I have been in the closed beta for CO, and trust me,CoX is a lot funner and actually looks better IMO lol
And at least CO is in open beta so we can all bash it for being so bad. I really didn't have any fun in the CO closed beta. The game didn't feel super heroic enough, looked horrible, and felt like a generic MMO with travel powers. I had more fun in the Tabula Rasa beta than in CO, and see how long that game lasted. I do hope Aion works out though. I actually did have a lot of fun trying their game out. -
Quote:It's simple. If BAB was posting instructions to the beta testers, he would have done so in the closed beta forums (which only the beta testers can currently access). If you actually read his entire post you would see that he was just answering a question from Bionic_Flea about things to look out for and /bug once you actually get into the beta. Remember, instructions to the beta testers would not be visible to to people not in the beta.So either you're in the closed beta and are breaking the NDA by telling us what is and isn't allowed, or you've been talking to someone who is, and is breaking the NDA by doing so. either way.
put up or shut up. prove me wrong.
BAB knew full well that beta was starting today when he gave the general direction beta should go in that post. Don't try to say that he posted that in ignorance and didn't know the game plan for beta.
Edit: I mean, it's not like it matters either way, but don't tell me i'm wrong without backing it up with something, especially when I've given credible evidence to the contrary. -
Actually you're wrong. Bab's post was made BEFORE the closed beta started. His post was just an answer to Bionic_Flea about testing the new features and bugging ANY problems that occur. His post had nothing to do with how the start of the closed beta was going to be handled. If it was, his post would have been in the Closed Beta forum threads that only people in the closed beta currently have access too.
-
The reason for locking non-beta people out of the character creator is that the character creator is all they are testing right now. Beta people can't even play the characters they create at this time (or existing characters). All they can do is try to break the creator and bug it in the beta forum threads.

These rewards are alright. The extra slots for 66 months is a decent reward, but I'm baffled by 63. I mean, I get what the "Fog of War" is -- I just don't see the value of having it lifted. Clearly I'm missing something; I have never once entered a map and thought, "Oh, I wish this map was revealed." Does this pinpoint glowies or tell you where mobs are located?
[/ QUOTE ]
What this power means is that when you step into a hazard zone you can view the entire map right away instead of having to explore the map to uncover it. The power will be invaluable for lifting fog of war in the Shadow Shard. -

Most will argue that TA and Archery are under powered, but I think both sets are fun to play. TA offers a lot of debuffs and slows and archery has no secondary debuff like most of the blasts do, but I believe its base accuracy is greater than other blasts.
Don't roll a TA/A Defender expecting to be a powerhouse, but definitely enjoy the uniqueness of the set and what it brings to a team.
[/ QUOTE ]
TA/A Defender may not be a powerhouse early on, but it can be pretty nasty later on. Aim+EMP+Oil Slick+Disruption+Flame Arrow can wipe out huge spawns of all their minions, and the lieutenants will be in really bad shape (and held as well). -

OOOH! I forgot about the character slots. That is hands down one of the best rewards.

So did I. I just got my 7th free one and don't know what server I want to use it on. (5 vet + 2 bonus). -
In no particular order:
Trench Coats
Belly Shirts
Wings
Base Teleporter
Assemble the Team
Travel power w/o prerequisite power (and available at level 6)
