The night settled. It wasn't an ordinary night that would have the light of the moon, or a cloudy night with the light from the lamps. This night seemed to dampen the light from anywhere, gradually getting darker and darker. The four street punks attempted to run down the alley but found their feet bound to the floor. The leader conjured his demonic fire in a futile attempt to see into the thick darkness. The glow lit his mask slightly but it also lit another face four inches in front of him.
The other three turned around in horror as their leader disappeared. They tried to scream for help but the shadow seemed to soften even that leaving nothing but a muffled whine. The last thing they heard, was their own heartbeat, pumping through their ears. The last thing they saw, were two red eyes penetrating the canvas of darkness. The last thing one of them said was "Oh bugger! It's him!" But the others couldn't even hear him. The last thing they smelled, was death.
As Sprawler climbed the building, occasionally using a small boost of flight to gain extra height, his thought began to wonder about what exactly he was doing in this mortal world. He seemed to be acting as a guardian of some sorts but he had no idea why. If you looked into Sprawler's mind, you would see a calculator. It needs someone to input something before it can come up with an answer. Unfortunately, Sprawler had no input. He had already reached an error, like when you go above the max number, or when you try and do the square root of 2 on an old one. So what could he do? He had to do something. A being with no purpose needed to be removed.
So he decided he would protect these mortals until someone presses his reset button. Why? How would I know? I'm just telling you what he told me. He didn't even mention why the hellions would be important to the story. I suppose he wanted us to feel glad he's on our side. I may not tell this story and I may tell more than I planned. But I am going to tell you what he is. Because that is what he said I had to tell you.
