Its funny how Eis asks me to bow out , I state I am and then you want to continue arguing .
Please make up your mind Socksoul .
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not asking you to continue. Quite the opposite. And I didn't say I was innocent. I said you're not being constructive with your criticism, and instead are simply being a brat for the sake of attention.
Now, as per Eis's advice, I'm going to stop giving you any more. -
[ QUOTE ]
Also as this is a Virtue forum dedicated to discussing things that affect Virtue I figure i'll post my mind , if you don't want dissenting oponions you really shouldn't have a stickied thread on a open forum .
[/ QUOTE ]
Dissenting opinions are all well and good.
But your posts are essentially nothing more than passive-aggressive picketing, from your attitude towards me all the way down to your signature. You're extremely free and loose with the naysaying, veiled insults and name calling, but when it comes to constructive posts you come up short.
"Don't get me wrong, I'm not discouraging anyone from using it, I just HATE it and want it to die, and the people running it as well."
That doesn't make any sense, aside from the hating the people who run it part.
Who by the way are extremely HURT by that attitude. And yes, that's ME talking, not some faceless admin.
See, you've obviously forgotten that people on the Internet are still PEOPLE, and when you attack something they care about, you attack THEM, no matter how "veiled" you make it.
But since I'm just a sockpuppet, I guess that doesn't matter to you at all. Which is really sad that someone would become that utterly callous. -
Last we heard, TonyV and SleepyKitty were looking into putting together a cross-server fan Wiki modeled after ParagonWiki AND Virtueverse, but be a seperate entity from both.
It would be open to any server that wanted to participate.
It would not take over VirtueVerse.
The questions in regards to ad placement/selection/exclusion, ad-free server space, and such have not been answered by TonyV, who's not been back since his last post a month ago.
I asked him to please clarify our concerns before we got into planning ANY "integration" steps, and so far no planning meetings have been proposed. So I'd say the idea is exactly where you left it, as an idea and not a planned change.
As for the unused image purge, this is part of running a large web-driven database, and comes under 'planned maintenance'.
As for the image size exclusion, it's simply common sense, and the fact that it wasn't implemented 'at the start' is simply because we had no one 'at the start' that was planning any sort of maintenance tasks. Virtueverse != Photobucket. It does mean I get to write up (or find) some guides on how to properly resize, crop, and resample images for the Web, and put them up for people to read so they know not only WHY they should limit their images, but also HOW to go about doing it.
I do know that we're looking to script as much maintenance as possible, including redirect cleanup (where links that lead to redirects are changed to lead directly to the targets, and the redirects then cleaned out) and possibly categorization and indexing. The trick is to find repetitive tasks that don't take much brainpower to do, and then script them so the bots can take over... and anything that comes back with an error is flagged for sysop review.
Less work for sysops, and then the only thing that keeps us from doing things we like to do (such as playing games) is dealing with problematic users. But I might be able to script that job too, come to think of it. -
why do you care, Scarf?
you pulled your stuff completely off and asked me to delete the files. So as far as the server/database are concerned, there is no one by that name.
And I'm no one's sock puppet, my opinions are my own, thank you very much. -
Usually it's linked to an account that the person running/paying for the site can use. So Kadekawa would have to set that up, and then give us the code for the button. Anyone else having access to that Paypal account would be extremely risky.
Least that's how it's worked with other sites I'm familiar with. -
Megajoule: I've the same concerns. I could see setting up a Paypal "Donate" button in the page header/footer, but not much more than that.

Needless to say this has made Khep's main outfit unusable as it ruins the illusion.
Khep's Skirt bug
[/ QUOTE ]
It's also [censored]'d Torch Juggler's costume, as the flame stripe down the side is offset. -
[ QUOTE ]
yup, same with pencil skirts.
but to be honest, once I got in game and played with having my skirt split up the front
it wasn't as cool as I'd thought it would be

... damn that swelteringly hot Paragon summer... -
*sigh* See how fast they turn on you? Guy gets himself a real honest-to-goodness girl, and suddenly us G.I.R.L. types aren't good enough....
Yo, Buck, let's you and me come up with some fun costume-shredding scenes, but this time we won't let TA play. -
You don't? Funny, I recall Warfox getting the business end of TA's juice...
OK derail over. Seriously, 8baller, that's an awesome scene. -
... only when it depicts TA.
(KIDDING! Ack! Not Shocking Grasp! AAAAAAGH!!) -
I know... that's the mission that I based Sophie off of.
After all, what happens to the girls once you rescue them?
but I'm sure Tyrant has kidnapped his share of the poor girls for entertainment purposes. -
[ QUOTE ]
As long as you aren't bringing back slavery I can say thats a nice pic.
[/ QUOTE ]
well they ARE a Villain Group... but yah, that would be bad. -
Goldbricker: hehe. What's one more Seneschal? Tyrant's probably got a whole harem of them.
-
OK several points.
Naylor's missions should have unlocked bazookoids and the "All Hands on Deck! Swirly Thing Alert!" emote. But Rularuu weapons are nifty. Cool, thank you very much.
-------------------
Trial Accounts:
The RMT farmers/spammers were taking up bandwidth and server character slots, farming drops (and possibly also helping to 'game' the consignment markets), and annoying players constantly.
ALL ON FREE ACCOUNTS.
Which meant any schmuck with a storefront, a T1, and some spare computers could set himself up as an RMT business, and PROBABLY break even. Who foots the bill? NCSoft does. Account gets banned? It was a trial, generate another friend code and start right back up again in ten minutes. Plus there were the concerns of SG looting, in which all those hard-earned enhancements (some crafted and very expensive) and base materials were getting turned into inf, and thus into ca$h, NONE of which was getting back to the SG members.
This, we decreed, bothered us more than bugged missions or lack of booty shorts. We wanted the spam to STOP.
So... the trial accounts, the free ride that these folks were using, now no longer allow someone to race to 50 in a week. Or amass more than 50K in inf. Or do any of the other annoying spammer behavior that we loathe so deeply.
As for the folks who cry "I'm just trying this game out, I was GONNA buy it and then BOOM! I'm shut down!" here's the hard truth.
No. Free. Rides.
You get the nickel tour, you get to stretch your legs, get a feel for the game (play it solo, you'll probably see more content than on an 8-man Sewer Team anyhow), and then you get to decide, OK, is this fun? If so, pay up. It's not that expensive, cheaper than That Other MMO, and will probably keep you entertained for a long long time. I'm working on year three, myself, and will probably do a Hami raid with all the devs that are still around the night before they shut the servers off.
But one thing that really upsets me, is when someone gets something for FREE and then complains that they can't get the whole package. You want the whole package? BUY the whole package.
So you trial account folks want to team up, see how the game works. Hang out in Atlas and ask if anyone can send you an invite. "Hi I'm checking this out on a trial account, can someone please show me around?" Is that really so hard? or is n00bphobia kicking in to where people don't want to ADMIT that they've not seen this game before?

The Skirt Issue: Yes, it's 'fixed' in that if you create a new character, it works correctly. However, Devs, if you'd care to look at my main, Soul Train (Virtue), who has NOT visited a tailor yet... her skirt's on sideways and she's got a weird buttcrease in her thigh. Please tell me that if we're expected to fix the costume bugs at the tailor, that we aren't expected to pay for the fix, mm?

Flying bug - wth? is this a new ;flypose? the 'flap my arms like a hummingbird' version? Gaaah! Nooo!

Arachnos Widows STILL can't change their claws even though a new 'set' unlocks at 20. It's the SAME SET! Why must you tease us soo? -

[u]Good[u] stuff.
(though it reminds me we need to bug Jay to get the thigh-high boots put back.)
[/ QUOTE ]
No offense, but what version of the game are you playing?
As far as I know, the Thigh-High boots are still in game.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is in reference to the fact that the Thigh-High Stilettos were (up until I12) slightly flared at the tops, rather than skintight all the way up. We, uh, liked them better the way they were. -
She was, yes. Now she's a refugee/performer/heroine on Primal Earth.
Originally rolled on Triumph, ported to Virtue. -
All of my oversized images deleted and/or re-uploaded.
All of my unused images deleted.
Took me... about 45 minutes.
Approximately 30 minutes of that were spent resizing and recompressing in Paint.NET (free).
A note on image sizes: Taking a jpeg from 100% uncompressed to 85% resulted in file size drops from 155KB to ~60KB with little if any loss in visual quality, however, I'd not recommend that anyone RE-compress an already-compressed file, you'll mangle it. Also, if you have lineart or simple cel-shaded work, it's actually better to save it as a GIF, which strips out all unneeded colors, and avoids the compression 'artifacts' around sharp edges.
Now... I think this particular dead horse can be safely turned into glue. -
This is a commissioned work of my Praetorian Carnie, Sophie Regis, the Death-Defying Torch Juggler!!!
It turned out great!!! -
correct, and the current admins were once simple users, and (even the eponymous 'admin') are also human, and fallible.
but justifying one's own actions 'because someone else is doing it' is a rather hollow argument. I stopped getting away with that one in grade school, personally. -

But like you said, people being who they are are going to ignore that and do as they what they want. That being said there is a message that is displayed when you upload something bigger than 150k. That right there should raise the flag in the back of your mind, you know, the one that says what your uploading might be on the chopping block when push comes to shove.
[/ QUOTE ]
The same one TheImperial and Soul Train saw before they uploaded their images in excess of 300kb?
Yeah, I saw that.
[/ QUOTE ]
Our oversize images will be purged along with everyone else's, if they're not replaced with smaller versions beforehand. But thanks for calling attention, I figure I can spend ten minutes or so doing a resize, along with the time I already spend maintaining the system.
So far I'm hearing a few people saying this is going to be a Terrible Burden. Trust me, it will NOT be. A bot will run a script, and all of the oversize media will be removed. If people wish to re-upload new versions of their graphics either before or after, they can spend the time to do so. If they don't, then that will be that. End of story. -
Soul Train by Jeremy Farlow - watermarked version
Editors - send me a PM if you want one that's un-marked for the 'zine. -

Yup the banded skirt, the very same that Soul wears. :/ I think it happened to all the skirt patterns. Like every pattern got rotated 90 degrees. Here's a screenie of it.
