    The mood on MA

    Nope. Not surprising at all.

And can I ask something of you all?

People keep tossing the term "RP'er" in whever they mean "Anti-Farmer". They are NOT one and the same, so, please don't use them as one and the same. Thank you.
  2. It's an XML feed, not an RSS feed. I know I can get it to display in Powershell (by importing it into an array, and then formatting the output.) Basically it's a collection of text objects, so writing a widget to ingest and display them shouldn't be too tricky.

Not sure how WordPress handles an XML feed, though.
  3. If you're unable to start the game, try clearing your system caches. It was discovered early on that if you 'abort' a crash debug, or otherwise kill the process before it's written the crash report, it corrupts a system cache in regards to the game and refuse to start CoH after that (EVEN after a reinstall).

However, clearing a system cache is easily done.
  4. The only NCSoft communiques I receive are from Support.

Despite having my options checked, and NCSoft filtered to send to a specific folder NOT the spam folder.

Guess Yahoo and Gmail both think something's up with NCSoft.
  5. OK, here's John Printemp's Kibo Electin:

    Original
    -------------------
    Kibo Electin

Once an overweight, under-educated, and near broke college student, Kibo came to realize he had a latent ability to manipulate the kinetic force surrounding objects. By his sophomore year he'd managed to cover courses on nearly every scientific study of energy and biology in attempt to understand the forces he was growing to control. In the short amount of time he'd gone from hovering card tricks to using the kinetic force off other bodies to alter his own physical speed. These studies resulted in an impressive adjustment to his body, strength development and a boosted metabolism. After graduating early with a Bachelors in Engineering and Energy Development he was recruited by a low level super group in Paragon City, later moving to join the Overflow Groups with the attempt of using their wealth and technology to improve his energy manipulation techniques.

At the epitome of his abilities, Kibo has unlocked the core of his powers and surrounds himself in a constant flux of kinetic force that has unwittingly caused a dramatic turnaround for how he perceives and lives in the normal world. With his body and mind constantly moving at an accelerated pace, the world around him has become sluggish and weak. Many times in combat he moves around the battlefield so chaotically that it is near impossible to track his movements as he envelops his targets in kinetic forces and drains their energy before they ever have an opportunity to fight back.
    ----------------

    And my reimagining...

Once an overweight, under-educated, and near broke college student, Kibo Electin came to realize he had a latent ability to manipulate the probability flux surrounding objects. By his sophomore year he'd managed to cover courses on nearly every scientific study of energy and biology in attempt to understand the forces he was growing to control.

However, he soon discovered that Fate was handing him the 'free pass', while those he disliked found themselves continually impeded. Dropping out of school, Kibo took to the road, making his living hustling in pool halls and cardrooms, becoming more and more 'in tune' with Luck and Fortune.

However, there were certain things he couldn't influence. He got caught outdoors during a freak thunderstorm in Oklahoma, and nearly electrocuted by a bolt of lightning. However, for some unexplained reason, he KEPT the charge, and as his continually-changing form adapted to it, he discovered he could manipulate electrons just as easily as cards.

He is now wanted on US federal and Interpol warrants for illegal computer access, breaking and entering, and the compromise of several NSA security systems. He's rapidly discovering that, with his mastery of probability and electrical potential, there's no lock he can't pick, no computer he can't hack, and no security system he can't bypass with a thought.
  6. Wow.

I can totally see it, sportbike-inspired Freakshow racergrrls.

And Runriot and Betty Highside need to hang out.
  7. Frost can... vouch for... !!

    {brain overload, failover to backup brain in progress...}

    City of Cute!

    heh!!

    I should post mine up...
  9. (scirocco catches LR crocheting a throw

LR: What? It's for a badge.
  10. The Ocho is his "posting as a community rep" ID.

Mod08 is his Moderator ID (so he doesn't get tracked by the Community Digest robot.)
  11. Whoa! That's pretty radical! I'm liking it...

I'll have yours done tonight when I get off work.
  12. Webcam? Wait.... oh!

*glomps Rook, while on camera* Hey sugah! miss me?
  13. whoa. My post got eaten.

Annnyhow, I should have some time to do this tonight, if John Printemps is still interested.
  14. ... Naah.

There's better writers out there. I mean, I could probably out-write Venture if there was money on the table, but that doesn't mean I'd be any good at all at writing reviews.

Philosophical essays? the odd story stuffed full of obscure archaic humor that no one in this day and age would 'get'? Maybe a technical instruction document in stilted telco jargon? Perhaps.
  15. Try it with the next meter-maid, with bare pecs and a dour emo expression. Works every time.

    Your reasoning: irrelevant.

Rules: forbidden: use of exploits: in place: prior.

    Paragon Studios: personnel: 50 employees.
    Players: superior numbers: vast.

Paragon Studios: code lockdown: 5th Anniversary.
    Code changes: forbidden.

Analogy: fewer cops: more drivers; speeding: remains illegal.

Upright stance: lower ambulatory appendage: lacking.
  17. OK.

This is where the Narrator Breaks the Fourth Wall.

The fact that Venture uses TVTropes in his reviews is, A) they're amusing to him and others, and B) are an encyclopedia of sorts as to the plot elements that people use. He COULD just write up "I liked/hated/enjoyed/endured the Plot XYZ" and leave it at that, but he doesn't.

The fact that tropes are used do not make an arc bad. It's just his lingo. He'll TELL you what makes them bad (the tl;dr line at the top) and then go into detail later.

And, I was the one that threw the Xanatos Gilligan at him. Personally... I thought it worked out, even if he didn't... cos frankly, I took a gamble that a villain would probably enjoy smashing a vase more than simply reciting mumbo-jumbo over it. "Uh... oops?"

Besides, I needed a way to make things go south at the end of the first act.

I suppose I could have constructed it a la Midsummer Night's Dream... but then I'd be using THAT trope, and frankly I don't care for Shakespeare as a MA Arc. You can't put in Summer is a Comin' In, else Mod 08 sees it and bans it for people singing "cuckoo" too lewdly... and unless you put an EM Brute in as a boss the players get all the palpable hits.

And damned if I didn't channel Micheal Flanders and Donald Swann, there. Scaaaaary.
  18. I suggest you republish it with the word "redheads" substituted for lesbians.

Cos, yanno, at some point we have to keep the blondes from having all the fun.

  19. I dunno. On the one hand, the Hero AT's tend to be very rigid roles, whereas the villain AT's are more fluid.

I happen to think that flexibility is a GOOD thing, and that this will be one more step away from the DPS/healer/Meatshield Holy Trinity that's so bloody sacred in Other Games...

...shoot, I worked hard to turn my stalker into a scrapper with "Surprise!" built in... there's probably a few scrappers with the Concealment Pool accomplishing the same thing, too.

About the only AT that will be hard to wrap one's head around is the MM, and yes, I can see a heroic MM, in a way. My Robotics/Traps MM can and does fit as an Artillery and Demolitions detachment in the RWZ - so what if she's considered 'evil' when breaking down someone's door but "effective" when taking on the Rikti Menace?
  20. It's a valid cross-faction power, yes. Surprised that it works on an enemy in PvP though.
  21. I give truly abysmal arcs one star. Some get zero stars, if they really went into wall-banger territory.

Most 'bad' missions get two stars. Three is reserved for 'ok' missions that could possibly be improved. Four for the good ones. Five for the truly awesome ones.

All of my stars come enclosed with a comment. Read the comment. You'll know why your arc got X stars. Simple.

As for the griefing / twinking potential in the system... I'm not really paying attention to the number of stars everyone else has, anymore, cos it's obvious the system is broken vis a vis honest ratings. Instead I select arcs by reviews, or by requests to play them. I might (!) stumble across something by browsing, but then only if I'm bored.
  22. Hrmm.

Try changing the MA's 'working folder' on your desktop from the hard drive to the thumb drive. Otherwise we run into issues with how each drive is formatted, sector sizes, all that jazz. You'll have to have the thumb drive slotted before you engage the MA interface, of course.
  23. Sadly, MA is out for me, as all three of my slots are hosting arcs at the moment.

That is, unless we can show them off in Test Mode.
  24. Congratz.

And, now I have to edit an MA arc to include TWO of you.
