Quote:What about an "Export character to XML file" button? Don't allow loading of the file into prevent cheating. It wouldn't have to be real time, it would take minimal system resources, doesn't pose the firewall problems, the user could upload at their convenience, and given a default file structure add-on websites could read the files via upload. While your suggestion bears merit, there are players on here with computers that barely support running CoH on minimum settings (until a recent new computer purchase, I considered myself among this group).
Save a picture at the same time and it would be almost everything users/websites could ask for. -
Actually, I bought that on sale 3 years ago (shortly before they stopped making that version) for around 1/2 of the suggested retail price. I've not been upset with the purchase.
While the new version has a color LCD, it is also missing 6 keys.
More options are always good. -
Quote:You missed three:To begin with there is already the precedent of a badge whose had its requirements completely changed. The Fusion Generator Plans SG badge originally was earned for a set amount of time SG members spent in PvP zones. Now itÂ’s earned by an SG getting 750 kills in PvP in SG mode. Then of course you have the Isolator/Jail Bird badges which have been "liberated" from being trapped in the tutorial zones and are now earnable by anyone who wants them. Last but certainly not least let's not forget all of the badges (Issue 16 anyone?) which had their requirements majorly altered to allow them to be more easily earned. Practically dozens of badges have either been significantly altered (or even removed) from the game so there's no longer any justification NOT to fix this one last problematic badge.
Disruptor,
Forward Observer, and
Reinforcement.
Yeah, they've been mentioned in every badge issues list. -
Quote:I have one of these:In the meantime, I use something like this, jammed right under my monitor.:

If you're not in the the U.S. and want to coordinate with US players, just set it to GMT+whatever and put a sticky note on it to remind you of what time zone it's on.
Just a cheap one.

Usually with some kind of clock running, and I still wouldn't mind an in-game clock display. -
Quote:I remember it, but I'm not sure if it is still active. Then again, I've not been as active as I used to be lately.how many of you remember Triumph Search and Rescue, but is it still around?
I'm not sure if it is truly needed as there are numerous options for movement to safety (jet packs, jump jets, several teleports [Pocket D, Ouroborus, Base Teleporters, Went Worth's/Black Market Teleporters]), not to mention a hospital in the Hollows since Issue 12. -
My worst moment like this was one character missing a single Halloween zombie from 2007. Then the progress bars came out with Issue 13 and I had to wait nearly a full year to get that 1 kill.

I'm not mad. I'm just pointing out that you are incorrect because it never has been a criteria that a clear majority needs to be proven to the developers for them to implement a suggestion. On the other hand, if you have to resort to ad-hominems and straw men arguments, you've lost.
It has merit due to the fact that it is a possible solution to a problem that has existed for years. -
As an optional window element, I wouldn't mind this suggestion. It seems easy enough to actually do as the game already has the capability as a slash command.

Quote:Not good enough. There should be a clear and undeniable proof that the majority of subscribers want their character names tied to their globals. It is one of the factors that everyone (or even a majority) wants a feature? No. Same goes for thinking that "a clear and undeniable proof that the majority of subscribers" want something. Given the numerous threads of this nature that have shown up in the four years that I have been playing this game, one would think that the developers would want to explore the possibility of doing something along these lines now that their competition is doing it. (Actually the same thing goes for mailing items, but that is another thread.)Quote:When has that ever been a gauge as to what gets put into the game?
I made the above into a numbered list to respond better.Quote:- We wanted weapon customization.
- We wanted power customization.
- We wanted power proliferation.
- We wanted more character slots.
- We wanted side switching (we're getting it in GR)
- We told them we'd pay for costume packs.
- We wanted commas in the Consignment House.
- We wanted them to cancel the 60 day rule.
- We wanted larger SG rosters.
- We wanted a healin powerset for villains.
- We wanted Shields.
- We wanted Dual Pistols. (coming in GR)
- We wanted the 5th Column back.
1 and 2 are the same thing for all intents. Yes, it was wanted. I don't know if it was asked for by a majority though.
Numbers 5 and 13 are something that some will use and some will not, but either way has no ill effects to anyone.
For 3, 4, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12 those are all player requests that have no down-side for players. (The developers gave us something without taking anything away.)
Number 9 actually dove-tails with this suggestion as it has been asked that the limits be taken away entirely and allow invites to groups by global names.
For 6 there is a large portion (not a majority) of player upset about the microtransactions.
I did not for a moment suggest any such thing. So your entire post is a straw man.Quote:And those are just a few things off the top of my head that we wanted and the devs gave to us. Does it mean we'll get everything we ask for? HELL NO. But the devs do listen and try to give us the stuff we want as long as it doesn't screw up the game.
What I had a problem with is your statement that a suggestion has to have a clearly provable majority for the developers to consider a suggestion. This suggestion has merit, despite those opposed to it. -
Quote:Eh, I dunno. I would kind of like having my character names tied to global, and so would a lot of other people. It solves a number of issues (name purges, knowing who is in groups, allowing new customers to create their character the way they envision it,etc). It has the potential to keep new customers with minimal inpact on the existing customer base. So it would be a win-win for the developers, and for the existing customers there would be more people to play with.Quote:While I have seen support for DeviousMe's position here in this thread and others - I'm not seeing a lot of support for Thaumator's position (that some folks would actually like to have globals tied to all their names)
To me it would be a far better thing to encourage more people to play than to worry about someone else getting "your" name. Think of the global name as a secret identity. Have the ability to hide the global name if you don't want to see the global name (it isn't as if the global name is all that hard to find anyways).
Well, I would for one.
When has that ever been a gauge as to what gets put into the game? -
Quote:This, I believe, is the fully correct answer to the entire thread.Let's clarify that no keyboard inherently violates the EULA. You may choose to use it in a manner that violates the EULA. If you use it to set up a set of automated macros to make your mastermind pets dance and sing, no one cares. If you use it to automate play (like chaining multiple attacks), then you are in clear violation of the EULA.
Set it to make macros easier to reach or other uses that don't give you a competitive advantage and you are fine.
The moment that you try to fully automate play, be prepared to lose your account. -

Quote:Apples meet oranges unless you are talking about the Scrapper version. I am talking about the Tank version.Um... Have you any idea what this means? MoG is on a 240 second recharge and provides a 15 second buff to both defence and resistance to everything but Psi enough to cap yourself on everything (but psi).
I did not make any comment on the bolded section. Also you forgot that RotP roots you for 4 seconds of that 15 second untouchable time frame. MoG is on a shorter timer, doesn't root. RotP also heals less if you are a scrapper, doesn't have stun protection, KB protection, the other status protections, or the increased Recovery that MoG has.Quote:Rise of the Phoenix, under your suggestion, would be a power on a 300 second recharge that heals you, restores your endurance, causes a lot of damage, a lot of knockback, enough stun to affect bosses AND gives you 15 seconds of complete untouchability AND that can also resurrect you if you happen to be dead. And this doesn't strike you as sickeningly overpowered?
When the word "nonexistent" appeared multiple times the suggestion went too far.Quote:the live effect would be a limited version of the dead effect (smaller to nonexistent heal, smaller to nonexistent end gain, no untouchable, not autohit, no debt protection) with some of the self-rez penalties removed (no self immobilize, potential +def/+res).
Umbral's suggestion would strip every aspect of the power. I wouldn't take Umbral's version of RotP at level one. It is far too underpowered.
* I could see a small reduction in the heal. Healing Flames heals for 1/4 (edit: Fixed a typo here.) of base hit points for a tank, RotP is 1/2. So make the "alive" RotP heal for 1/3 of the base hit points.
* Make it cost a huge amount of endurance to use while alive, that would make it balanced with other nukes.
* Autohit while alive is problematical to program due to how the power works. Probably should be left in.
* I've already agreed that the debt protection should be out.
* If the untouchable (which in my experience doesn't work all the time) is too overbalanced, replace with +1000 Resistance and Defence to all for the 15 seconds while removing the root. -
Quote:No, I didn't. On a character with out massive amounts of +recharge, RotP has around a 3 minute recharge. Not very game breaking. In fact leaving it in the "alive activation" would bring RotP back up to be comparable to other tier 9 powers. For what could be "dropped" when alive:
* Autohit.
* Debt protection.
This suggestion would leave the power far too weak to use while alive. You've just taken too much from the power.Quote:The best suggestion would be to simply have 2 completely different functions within the single power: one that operates if you're dead and another that operates if you're alive. The dead effect would be stronger (re: as it is now), and the live effect would be a limited version of the dead effect (smaller to nonexistent heal, smaller to nonexistent end gain, no untouchable, not autohit, no debt protection) with some of the self-rez penalties removed (no self immobilize, potential +def/+res). -
Quote:Provided an external macro program (out of game) that allows timing, this is true. The G-15 (and G-11) Keyboards 'Macro Keys' are absolutely no different than any keys on a Standard keyboard. You can program any key to be a 'G' key; Logitech just added some and separated them for ease of use.
The CoH macros are a totally different beast than the Logitech software.Quote:As far as Macros being against 'Da Rulez'; CoX allows you to put Macros right in your Power Bars.
With a CoH macro I would need to press and release a key 2 times to activate 4 toggles (pulling a value out of the air). With those presses I could activate one attack power and set one power to auto state.
With the Logitech software, if I chose to risk my account (and I'm not willing to), I could activate 6 toggles, set one power to auto, and fire off a dozen powers in a specific order. All that with one keypress. Or I could set it so that every X seconds a power would activate without any interaction from me other than 1 keypress.
Or even worse, I could combine the CoH and Logitech methods with some batch files for some really spectacular results.
To my knowledge Windows has not had a comparable built in macro recorder since Windows 3.1 and even that is not up to the Logitech software. All comparable macro utilities are separate from the OS.Quote:It's only Botting that is against 'Da Rulez', and Logitech only makes it easier for a person too slow or lazy to use Windows' built in abilities to do it.
A total exaggeration. -

Quote:This is not really true. Entire attack chains can be done. Easily in fact. That guide of mine linked to above? While only "typing" the ignore_spammer command with the spammer's name isn't a gaming advantage ( it is a peace of mind advantage ), the same principals apply to making attack chains. Those binds are limited to one power at a time plus one toggle.
Actually, this isn't totally accurate either. You can have perpetual actions. I once figured out how to do a perpetual "jump once every 10 minutes script" with the G-keys macros. It only required one key press to activate. The same script could be used with loading different binds to create a RP bot with a large amount of dialogue or cycling a targetcustomnext command (no, I'm not going to say how, as I find the whole idea of botting repugnant). However it is completely unlikely that bot would be at all successful in terms of combat as there is no means of properly assessing targets or moving (map hindrances).Quote:It won't. You can't perpetually bot with a G15 anyway, you have to push the button when the macro is done to start the macro again. Also, you cannot trigger a G key from a G key, so you can't go from one macro to the next to another to another, back to the first, and start all over again. -
Quote:Actually here is where I disagree.all of the "Let's go from one zone to another really really fast" powers could benefit from this.
This is one of those "looks bad on paper", but really isn't. No matter which zone, you are teleported to the mission door. As soon as you enter the door, everyone on the team is in the same instance. Therefore this use of the suggestion would be moot.
The initial suggestion would only be applicable to the markets if you are using these transporters as an alternate tram system.
Ok, this one is so rare that I've only heard of this once: The Manticore/Psyche wedding... They had Developers as ushers... On the test servers. -

Quote:Ok, how about trying to get the "Master of" badges. You know - where the whole point is to not die? Only by not dieing can they get those badges.I'm getting a little sick of people complaining that self-resurrect powers are only useful when you die. So? You WILL die. No matter what you do, no matter how good you are, no matter what set you play, you WILL die. Sooner or later, you will die, and having a power that works then is, as far as I'm concerned, pretty damn cool. I'm be seriously disappointed if I see self resurrection damage powers go, because they're one of the few remaining interesting powers.
To me, this argument is akin to wanting to remove seatbelts out of cars because you're such a good driver that you will never, ever crash. And you're racing in NASCAR. Boy is it gonna' suck when you do.
This means the tier 9 power of a primary power set is useless for the most difficult tasks in the game.
I think that is wrong. -

Quote:Ok, let me see if I'm responding to the right statement:Re-read what you responded to with this. They're not there to click on in the scenario. Now, which character gets friended in this multi-name scenario?
Quote:I have a great time teamed with AwesomeDom. I don't think about friending them - end of the night, I'm tired, I go to bed. I see AwesomeDom in broadcast and say "Hey, he was pretty cool to play with!" Not "Is that AwesomeDom@Domino, AwesomeDom@MindMe, AwesomeDom@DominickCOH" - that I didn't get to see because "at the time there was only one, but now there's more."Right one? Good.Quote:If you've teamed with someone you like, you can then click on their name or their character and add them as a friend. It literally takes a second to do.
In that other game, it has an autocomplete function (something that should have been added a long time ago in CoH). Not only that, but the global name is always present in the chat window and logs (again it should have always been around, even if only in the log files due to potential harassment issues). In this case you could send a tell to the person, and given their responses choose the right person.
You would still have seen during your teaming the global name of the player. The only way you wouldn't know their global name is if they never spoke in any chat or forgot it. At that point you've also forgot the character name. If you did remember the character name, the game provides a list of globals so you can narrow down the right person. At its most basic, it does what this forum's search does when you type in a name: It tries to help you find the right person. It doesn't always succeed, but you've learned something. During that 2 week trial, I easily found several CoH players the same way.
The only problem I had with the system is that I had a real life friend that I initially couldn't find. A quick phone call and I had all the info I needed. -
Quote:Actually I've seen more than 5 Pocket D instances on Triumph during the 5th Anniversary event.the only problem i see is that it would really only affect 1 server, virtue, if you mean more then 1 pocket d. if you mean choose between the ski chalet and regular pocket d i think it would cause some programing headaches with turning it off and on for just the winter event.

Quote:A point of clarification, Rian: Even if someone is completely new to the game (registers today) and uses an original, unused 1st generation CoH code they get access to CoV & 12 character slots per server.4. ever since the gve pack both games have come together, all new packs contain both games, when ncsoft took over they gave all existing players access to both games, the only way you can possibly not have access to both games is to buy a 3 dollar cov or coh old box from big lots, and have joined after the ncsoft takeover. and you can get the packs for 20 bucks for both games, somethign you cannot get with wow, the game you chose to compare it to. what the hell are you on about here? you haven't been able to buy the single game for over a year.

As there is still 3 hours (pacific time) to wish you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY, I thought I'd do so here.

I hope your day has been full of wonder and joy.
PS. I really miss the birthday cake icons from the old forums.

Your just mad because I'm right. Neener neener neener!
