Quote:Couldn't you just copy the game folder from the old computer to the new? Then you should just need to run a verify when you run it the first time. I think? At least that used to work.Wow, dang, I'm building a brand-new PC next week. Does the launcher still allow you to download CoH from scratch? If not, it looks like I'll be switching back and forth between computers until the end of November.

Couldn't agree more.

Quote:That's awesome, I wish I'd thought about the RP tag.Heh, right now my guild consists of a 2-man guild that Haunt and I set up for more banking space, and a meta-guild called "Roleplayers" so we can wear an [RPer] tag over our heads when we're looking for RP. It works GREAT. There's no IC belonging to the guild, it's purely for the tag.
Though I think my Sylvari is about to get hijacked into another ACTUAL RP guild after last night. She's so hilarious to RP
The multi-guild system is pretty neat, but takes some getting used to. It was a little confusing at first. -

Quote:I'm on Piken Square - the unofficial RP server.I'm on Tarnished Coast - the unofficial RP server, like Virtue. In fact, I stayed up past 3am last night because I ran into some Norns randomly RPing around midnight and stopped to say hi... it was pretty fantastic
Ya'll should say hi sometime. -
Quote:It's not that people try to twist your words and make you look like a hater. This right here? This is the kind of bigotry filth that make me glad you're never going to talk to me again. For you to have your eyes wide open and still make the choice to give them money and in effect your validation for what they have done? Oh yes - I see that as betrayal. Betrayal and selfishness. Because you've decided you'd rather be selfish and choose your own enjoyment and fun over the principled stance. I don't hate you for it. I pity you. Because you've proven not to have the moral understanding necessary to make a principled stance. And in this case, it's so EASY to make the principled stance. But you chose to be selfish.
Good riddance. -
Quote:For all the little things I didn't like about DDO, their individual quest design was downright brilliant. This is what DDO does. More to the point, most enemies within the instances do NOT provide XP at all. Instead, if you kill most/all of them, you get an XP bonus at quest completion.
(you also can get an XP bonus for killing /none/ of the enemies. There's lots of little things like that.) -
Quote:Techically, ArenaNet suspended digital sales on Thursday, 30th. The announcement that CoH was closing happened a day later, on Friday 31st of August.Considering they put a temporary hold on selling digital copies of the game after the announcement was made because they didn't anticipate the number of sales and the effect it would have on their servers, I'd say the announcement that CoH was shutting down didn't have any significant impact on GW2 sales.
So, I think we can probably conclude that sales did drop notably after the announcement about CoH.
(Disclaimer: While I might indeed be inferring that the drops in sales of GW2 are related to CoH being shut down and not, you know, because that ArenaNet stopped selling their game, this was merely for humorous effect. I realize than in actuality those two things are unlikely to be even slightly connected.) -

Quote:What, you have conditions on behaving decently? Just because they are being out of line, is not an excuse for you to be out of line. Both sides could do with with some toning down. The (other half of) the community is not your enemy.Sure.
If the people who are boycotting NCsoft could remind themselves not to imply that those playing GW2 are soulless, backstabbing immoral idiots, that would be super, too!
(As an aside, I haven't really seen this behaviour from you, Feycat, so this isn't directly aimed at you. But you did reply!)
-
Quote:Well, I do enjoy my stalkers.Yes. I consider them to be backstabbers. And I don't want to know them, speak to them, or engage them in any way whatsoever.
But on a serious note, how about we don't antagonize the community? The last thing we need are camps fighting it out over who's dealing with CoH's fate in the correct way. I've been a loyal costumer of NCSofts for 8 years. They clearly don't care. If anyone stabbed anyone in the back, it's NCSoft. Certainly not some guy who's enjoying GW2.
So feel free not to pretend that you're more honourable than me, or that I've somehow betrayed the community by playing other games than CoH in the last eight years. We're in this boat together, we've all suffered the same loss, we just deal with it differently. There has to be room for all of us. If you can't handle that, you can swim. -
Quote:Yeah, if I put on my Doom and Gloom hat for a second, it's not entirely unlikely that NCSoft doesn't want a big reveal, because it's their IP and they don't want anyone to spill the beans on it. Even if they don't plan on doing anything with them, it's still their beans. Now that I think about it, the likely answer is that nobody is going to say anything until they find out if it endangers they severance package or not. That's probably the real reason, sadly.
Now wouldn't that be great. A cease and desist letter from NCSoft. One last good kick to the gut.
Quote:Ah, I see. So you feel that when BABs and Beastyle (for example) left, the studio was completely unchanged -
Quote:Pff. Conjecture. For all we know, it could have been 20 million without the negative press!Looks like negative press from this affair has done nothing (although a lot of units are probably pre-orders before they ****** up).
http://oceanicgamer.com/2012/09/gw2-...the-beginning/
But seriously, did anyone really expect to see a massive drop in GW2 sales? It's a pretty good game, that has been hyped to the moon, I really can't blame people for checking it out. And ANet seems like a good development team.
I just hope NCSoft hasn't shut it down before I get home from work.
(Also, before I forget: Could we please stop telling people who don't like to support NCSoft that they are wrong? It's a perfectly reasonable stance, and their opinion is as valid as yours. Thank you.) -
Quote:I think that's kinda one of the core principles of the game. You start as a grand hero, and you retire as a grand hero. Oh, and could you please feed my cows while I stand here and watch. Stupid lazy farmers. If there is one thing I am dissatisfied with, it's that your sense of power doesn't really ever grow in GW2. You never solo 16 enemies at the same time like you can in CoH.
*ahem*
Slight tangent there. But yes, I think the horizontal advancement is rather the point. It's a sort of 'low fantasy' (except, you know, with lots of magic) feel that I suspect they are aiming at. And I think, had ANet been a little braver (and if they had infinite money) they might (should?) have tried for a level-less system because that is, essentially, what they are trying to emulate. -
Quote:Let's not kid ourselves. NCSoft made the call to shut down the game. They weren't "forced by economic realities". They made the call. It does no one any good trying to shift blame unto some kind of intangible vaporware.Again, simple economics killed the game. NCSoft is just the one getting **** for making the tough decision to pull the plug on life support.
Re-purposing the resources you are spending on the game is all well and good, if you disregard the customers that are currently enjoying said resources. Some companies are happy with the "low-but-steady income" scenario and doesn't actively seek to antagonize their user base. NCSoft isn't one of those companies.
That's fine. Their choice. But let's not make up excuses for them. -
Quote:Personally, I think that the only thing TSW and WoW combat have in common is that you press buttons. But I'm sure you can build towards a WoW feel, if that's what you want. Now the Secret World looks intriguing and the theme of it actually draws me in but when I saw the combat, it automatically reminded me of WoW with a heavy dose of Call of Cthulu.
YMMW. -
It can't be worse than handing the keys to your time travelling device to, like, every villain in the world. I mean, what could possibly go wrong, right?
-
It's certainly easier if you're selling all of your crafting materials instead of hoarding/using them. Especially when the TP was just opened, copper ore was going for insane amounts. I'm not sure if it still does.

Quote:The issue with that is that a couple of the races doesn't use surnames, which I consider a bit of a snafu on the designers' part. The Asura are particular bad. If you want a 'culturally appropriate' asura name, it has to be short and punchy, with no surname. I'm convinced not a single four-letter combination is still availableI never have these problems with names. If the name you want is taken, add an adjective or a last name to it. For example, I wanted 'Nightcat' in GW2 but it was taken, so my thief became 'Nuala Nightcat'.
It's not a problem if you don't care about fitting in though. Or if you don't care about Sylvari or Asura. -
So. Like, Positron as lead developer on BS (yes, that's a legitimate acronym)? And from looking at screenshots of the game, I assume that fetish gear is mandatory office attire.

My absolute pet peeve with GW2 though: Around level 30, you get to join one of several factions. Each of those factions is full of NPCs running around in their (hopefully) neat faction gear. Do they offer you a suit for joining? No. Do they at least offer to sell you a suit? No... well, yes and no. They do offer to sell you faction armour... fifty levels from now. That's right, you have to be level 80 to put on the armour they otherwise hand out willy nilly to their NPC doormen.
W.T.F.?
I only joined the Vigil for the cool helmet.
I really wish that the factions would, at the very least, sell (not-stupid-expensive) faction armour skins you could slap on your own gear, should you so desire. This has been my number one disappointment with GW2 so far. I was so disappointed that I haven't even been able to play my main since discovering this. Maybe I should picket the Vigil keep... *goes to make banners* -
Quote:The problem with random events is that they are, well, random. I had no problem levelling up my Sylvari through a combination of heart quests, dynamic events (I refuse to call them DEPossibly it's also down to a certain amount of luck as to how many 'events' you come across - the stuff like escorting a pack mule or defending an outpost. If you're never in the right place at the right time you could miss a lot of those and therefore miss out on the substantial xp they provide.
) and exploration.
Then, later, I was playing with a friend who was just starting out, through the same content. From 1 to 10 we never came across any events, and he was really struggling to keep up with the content (at one point we were doing level 13 heart quests while he was still around 9). So, the randomness can be a pretty significant factor if you're unlucky. -

Quote:I like to think that the "more money than sense" segments make up for it. *looks guilty*There are some other factors to conisder there Vulpish. First, this happened early thursday AM. Most people who get paid weekly get paid tomorrow.
and that doesnt count the varients that are "Once a month" (who usually get theirs on the close order of the first) and twice a month (1 and 15) etc
But really, this is a fantastic gesture from the playerbase. Great idea.
