Quote:Oh yeah. Originally I was looking at 25 to 35 issues. I cut everything down, some stuff out and kept to main points and timing. I cant cut anymore unfortunatly.... I wish I could. You are going to be putting your name on this. Speaking for myself, I can safely say I want something to be up to a certain standard when I put my name on it. I believe in quality over quantity myself. If you need to cut corners to save time, perhaps you should look at the number of issues rather than the quality of the issues. Even then, you need to be careful not to cut anything which is crucial to the story or which makes it more difficult to understand why something is occurring in the story.

This is the link to the original thread I made on it. Really trying to decide what road to go on this.

If you do your own comics using coh screen shots, please let me know via post or pm.
Thank you.

Quote:Neat.Found this article while stumbling - thought it was pretty relevant to COH and worth sharing.

tl;dr version of the article: current mmo's rely too heavily on the 'holy trinity' (tanks-healer-damage) -
Quote:Thanks for the input but I dont think you've look at the comic. The only art is the cover. Its made with CoH screen shots. When talking about years of time, best not to trivialize the changes that can happen to you as a person and as an artist in that time. What works for you now can easily fall by the wayside over 12 months. As you tackle this project, you should possibly attempt to anticipate how you want your own skill to evolve over this time.
In the comic industry, the most highly prized artists are ones that can deliver high quality on deadlines tighter than Invincibelle's brapieces. If you value artistic workmanship in the same way you should probably be trying to evolve as much simultaneous quality and speed as you can muster, rather than expecting to be satisfied with just one or the other.
In any case, if I were in grasp of your pencils, I might simply evaluate what approach might suit each individual issue. Some issues might be planned to be replete with stock or cliche imagery, and offer little in the way of opportunity for artistically-enhanced impact. Quality might be easily assured and thus a focus on practicing speed for that issue is useful. And then some other issues might be of great interest, having very curious or inspirational environments or plots, or might include some incredible single moments I really want expressed to their fullest. For those issues I might want to set speed aside and labor carefully and at length. It seems to me that if you can make each issue it's own complete object, even if it isn't exactly the same template as all the others, you can avoid chaining your artistic evolution to the limited bounds of your initial plan.
In the end it's hard to advise what to do. Just be the artist you are and stretch out your talents to their limits for as long as you can keep it up. Look at the plan in front of you, and look at yourself honestly, and then get to work.
It'll end up being great.
As for the amount of time. I wrote and planned all of this about 2 years ago. It took me awhile to get a method for it all.
So I dont plan on changing anything over the next 3 years. I want to be able to work on other things which is another problem. With this taking up my time, being able to do other series such as the CoH first run comic sequel mini series I want to do and other things get put on the back burner.
My main thing is the storyline and being able to show my comic book writing abiltity... just my writing ability in general.
Also the process itself is pretty simple. Its setting up and taking the screen shots, live or with demo editing, that takes the majority of the time. So I am trying to figure out if I should have less quality screen shots (not all over but some here and some there) and get these comics out one a month instead of two?
I keep going back and forth on it. -
here is what someone else said to me.
Quote:I say bust them out. Quality does not have to suffer for quantity.
We are making screenshot comics, you know everything there is to know about CoH, the environment and where you can take a picture.
All you have to do is write the story, which you have.
What you gotta do is switch from "oh goodness I have 3 years worth of comics" to "pie this next issue needs x y and z lets go get it"
And this is my response in that thread.
Quote:Its the shooting that takes me longer. Getting the right shots.
An example is this. For the Sparky/Sin issue. I have a shot where Sin is chasing Madcap. I just did this the other day.
Now after I was done with the demo (since I was working alone with 2 accounts and couldnt press both runs and the screen shot button at same time... the camera angle is too far back.
I am trying to move the camera put forward but I suck balls... big hairy sweaty balls.... BALLZ!!!!!!
Anyways... So do I retake the entire demo shot and stuff with another camera angle or do I just use the one I have and zoom in extra... making it more pixelated than normal and thereby having a lower quality shot.
do I really take the extra time to avoid the pixelation of a single frame or do I just accept that?
Another example is another shot I have to do for this issue. It has Sin being hit over the head by a gun. Now to fully get what is going on I have several shots happening here. The close up of the gun moving forward. A shot of the bad guy in "after swing" and Sin being hit back in the same shot...
Now that is ALOT of work right there. Going in, getting the right shots at the right angle to convay all this. Then doing the demo edits and the timing just right.... going into the demo, taking out several frames a second and then looking through anywhere from 5k to 100k or more screen shots to find the best one.
Or do I just find one thats... okay.
Questions questions questions.... where's Vic Sage when ya need em. -
Well what would be more dissapointing would be if coh died (god forbid) and then i cant finish the comic...
Or it really does take me 3+ years to make this comic... -
For myself yes but also hopefully to entertain others...
-
I asked this to other coh comic makers but I wanted to open it up and see what you guys think of it. I'll just quote the entire original post.
Quote:So there you have it. Let me know what you guys think please? So I finally sorted out everything for the comic I've been working towards. It kind of all fell into place. I was struggling with making this comic and had about 25 to 30 issues planned for it. I cant do that many and have been trying to figure out what to cut. So I cut a few things and the rest kind of fell into place again. So I felt like sharing
Introductions (Completed)
Obey (Pending)
Cyril (still working on a better title)
The Return ( possibly naming it something comic book cheezy like "Attack of the Mermen" )
Nexus (another working title)
Flashback
Rikti Wars (or Rikti War Chronicles )
Enemy Within
Crazy (possibly naming it Crazy Me or Crazy You)
Anyways it will all then come together in...
Injustice
Now that I am more experienced with writting issues, I have caculated all these and how many I'd need to write them. I am looking at about 14 to 20 issues, this does not count Injustice or Introductions. Only Obey to Crazy... and that means I only have 2 and half of the 14 to 20 issues done. Lolz. After Sparky and I are done with this team up comic, I am soooo going to focus on these sooooo strongly.
Anyways, I also had a question for you guys. I know there will be varying opinions on the subject so please give your reasoning behind it so I can take into consideration all points.
Now it takes me about a year to make 6 issues. This means I'll be doing this for about the next 2 or 3 years at least...
Should I sacrifice quality to speed these things out or should I continue how I am going?
Hm, I think I'll ask this in another section of the forums and see what alot of people think...
ugh... I just keep hoping someone will want to help me out with the comics and help me crack these things out quicker. Oh well, one can only dream.

Quote:Why not just have them be Jpegs or something?Well, I'm one of the aforementioned Editors-in-Chief, so I'll pick up the ball on this one.
If you remember what the Scoop used to look like... well, here's a link to the LAST Scoop (on the 21st of July) - you'll notice that what it's supposed to look like and what it does look like doesn't precisely match anymore.
Unfortunately, we're having difficulties fixing the layout issues, and we can't get it to look any better than that. We've got an entire issue proofed and ready to go, but the new forums are defeating us every time we turn around.
HOWEVER! The City Scoop is not dead! We're working on solutions! As soon as we have something in place, we'll be back, and let everyone know where our next issue is!
Anyone who has an interest in assisting the Scoop in any way is welcome to PM me.
Or instead of displayed on the forums, maybe on an html page? A new website titled www.thecityscoop.com or something... or maybe CoH will host it themselves? -
Hey all. I am trying to get this demo here:
http://justiceknights.net/comic/p17f1f2aEDITED2.cohdemo
to work all the same as it currently is but move the camera in a few feet to better A) Frame the two and B) make it so I dont have to zoom the final image in far thereby pixelating it to hell.
Can someone please help me out with this? Never been able to get a camera edit to work properly in demos.

We have a few things in common, as I am sure many reading your post do, so dont be afraid to say hi.
Best thing to get over your social skills is to not put so much pressure on it though, mate. I used to have social skill problems to. Now its, "BLEEP it, whatever." Cuz also, there is a thing known as oversharing... especially to people who you arnt close enough to tell that **** too. Had a few people who joined my SG over the years that just... instantly shared too much and drove people away and then cried and complained when noone would be there friends.
Also, best thing for social skills is real life though. Best thing was when I was a kid I worked at Toys R us and a few other places and interacting with people really helped. I wouldnt rely on the game/other players so much for that.

Quote:lolz, I have been playing since launch and I have like 100k on all my characters combined. Influ and infamy.First, A little about myself. I have been playing since release. It took me 854 hours to make my first lvl 50. I never farmed or power leveled that hero or any other hero. That is until AE. The ticket drops on all boss arcs and the gains made from cashing in those tickets for bronze and silver rolls plus arcane salvage have been incredible. I have over $100 million on most of my heroes. Yes, I could resume playing regular content but the call of the ticket has me going back again and again. Run an arc. Trade in tickets. Post at WW. Rack in the profit. Rinse and repeat over and over. My addiction to tickets has led to my massive farming habit. I cannot stop. I have become a farmer.

well its more to test out stuff that would not just be gameplay but comic book making aswell. If you look here, www.justiceknights.net , youll see what I've done on the subject so far.
The only thing other than power customizing is back details like quivers and swords... -
On a mountain top he stands. The wind blows strongly with a cold bitterness. Closer to the edge he moves, below him a drop incalculable from his perception, the ground disappears in clouds below him. Pebbles fall off the side as his feet reach the edge. Around him it is clear but his view is of clouds. The blue sky breaks through as the sun shines down upon him. As the wind picks up, pushing him away from the edge, he protrudes his chest out strong and big as he lets it out:
"I16 CLOSED BETA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
His voice trails off. All goes quiet as the wind dies and the clouds move to block the sky and all the sun's gaze. A moment later he falls to his knees with his head down low. Tears roll down his face and fall of the edge of the cliff has he dreams of all the amazing things he can not experience, of all the things he wishes he could help test and give feedback.
For he has not yet been invited to i16 closed beta.
And he is me.

Quote:Oh, thank you but I already know of chases work. If you look at the www.cohcomicindex.com link I put in the first part of the thread, some of his work is there (as is mine).I'm not sure if he's still doing them but Chase Arcanum did two of the comics listed on the main page, the I-12 was a joint work between him and Cinder Flame. I bet he's got some tips and stuff.
I can PM a link to this thread if y'all want.
