Quote:I MIGHT agree that porting animations between Travel powers is a good idea, IF we had more than one cool animation. That's the thing - the only reason Ninja Run is so popular at the moment is because it's the coolest travel animation available. So, rather than have the devs give up, I'd prefer, instead, they continue to develop cool new Travel powers with cool new animations.Yes, I do actually. If that's what people want, then let people have that. If it's such a problem for me, I can always elect to not look at them.
I really think this is one thing that CO got right. The diversity in travel powers is much greater than what we've got, and goes a long way toward creating an environment evocative of comic books. -
Quote:I'm pretty sure I'll end representing the unpopular opinion on this one, but here goes:When they get around to power customization for travel powers, they should make the ninja run an alternate animation for combat jump, superjump, and superspeed.
/most emphatically NOT signed.
Sorry, but I think this is a really bad idea. Here's why - as it is, Paragon City and the Rogue Isles have already become cluttered with Ninja Runners! Do you REALLY want to log on to City of Ninjas?
I definately think the travel power situation in this game is problematic, especially now with Champions Online, and their 15 travel powers! But, the solution is for us to add MORE travel powers, not to let everyone use the same animation. Ninja Run was a STEP in the right direction, because it adds to the diversity of travel powers available to super-heroes (and villains), but we need more. -
One more vote for scifi/unusual weapons, especially biotech or steampunk inspired, as opposed to realistic, contemporary pistols (boring).
Some specific examples:
Battlestar Galactica (old) blaster
The X-Gun from Gantz
guns from Bayonetta game
Necromonger gun from Chronicles of Riddick
Skeletor's Shock Trooper Gun
I, Robot
Judge Dredd Lawgiver (inspired by comic)
Farscape Peacekeeper's Gun
The One
Oh, and while we're on the topic of Dual Pistols.... my anime-loving, WoW-playing friend says he'll leave WoW and sign up for CoH instead, if we get Bounce Reloading! I know it'll never happen, but just saying. -
-
Quote:Agreed - big time! I'm hoping this means we'll eventually get things like Ice Flight, Burrowing, Swinging, etc!As far as Ninja Run goes I liked this power quite a bit some months ago when Cryptic first called it "Acrobatics" and made it one of their travel powers for Champions Online. It doesn't really bother me that this power's function and animation details are almost identical to the ones first invented by our "competition" in the least. For what it's worth I think CoX's version of this power has slightly nicer animations (espeically the way the arms move for instance).
If this game can continue "borrowing" the few features that other game is doing well then I have no doubt CoX will continue to be the overall better game. -
Not a reply to anyone in particular (rather, several posters who, I think, misinterpreted the OP)....
The question was, "what toons have you been playing for all this time? have you played one from when you started till now?"....
not, "How many 50's do you have?"
Just saying. -
Holy poopcakes! You are a whole new level of Hardcore!
Quote:Last note: Ninja run with shield out looks like your gonna full body slam shield check someone in the chest. I now have to get this guy up to shield charge as I can only guess that the Ninja Run/Shield Charge combo will look freaking awesome. Can anyone confirm one way or the other?

Quote:Technically, you may be right (I didn't read through the whole thread again to check), but...I may be wrong, but I don't recall reading a vet stating "we are entitled" to rewards for playing your game.
...that's the same thing as saying vets are entitled, and it's an attitude displayed by many vets. -
Quote:Recently got Enduring badge (66 months), so, yea, I've been here since Day 1 (though, to be honest, there have been times when I've been largely inactive for several months, but I've always kept my account paid for. Silly, I know, but I always buy 6 months or a year at a time, and my inactive periods have never corresponded with account renewal time). This for the uber vets! I class these as players who have like a 48 month badge and higher!
Quote:what toons have you been playing for all this time? Quote:have you played one from when you started till now?
Silver Streak, of course (originally I had a different forum name, because I kinda didn't want my identity defined by one character. But, he's the only character I seriously RP, and once I started getting interested in RP-type threads on these boards, I changed my forum name. I don't post in-character anymore, except occasionally on my SG boards, but with global handles and all, I've just gotten used to using my main as my identity).
Mrs. Stopheles - another favorite of mine. Both Mrs. Stoph and SS are still actively played. SS, in particular, has more hours logged, by FAR, than any other toon I've got - he's the only one I bother with badge collecting, RP'ing, in-game socializing, etc. When I'm on other toons, it's pretty much just about kicking butt and leveling - or, in the case of 50's, kicking butt and working on improving the build in some way, like finishing accolades or completing IO sets, etc.
Morty Hall - he's a character that was made purely for RP reasons, and so doesn't really get played much at all. He's only lvl 12. Actually, I re-rolled him at some point, so technically he's not the same Morty Hall that existed on Day 1, anyway. He's Silver Streak's agent - I used to show up to RP events with him, and tell the event organizer that they'd have to sign contracts before Silver Streak could show up for their event. Havn't dusted him off in ages now. Oh well.
I made a couple other toons on day 1 that got deleted later, for various reasons.
Quote:whats your favourite build?
Also, I'm not sure if you're asking, what build do we simply ENJOY playing, subjectively, or what build do we think is most efficient?
Lately, I've been digging my Nova-build Warshade a lot, although I think my interest in that is starting to wane a bit, and I find myself wanting to devote more time to my Willpower/Energy Melee Tank. I would have to say, however, probably my all-time favorite build to play is Mrs. Stopheles - she's a Spines/DA scrapper. I find that build to be both a blast to play, and incredibly efficient. It's got great dps, both single-target and AoE, a ranged attack (without having to dip into Epics), some crowd-control, decent to great defenses (one of the few sets that gives you psionic resistance), a great self-heal, a combat self-rez, stealth - about the only thing missing is KB resistance, but there's plenty of ways to get that nowadays. It's just very versatile.
One thing to be aware about it, in case you're thinking of trying it - the one drawback, I'd say, is that it's a very hands-on build. It's not something you'll want to run on auto-pilot. -
Some of you have a rediculously huge number of 50's!
Not me - I'm not even going to mention the levels of my toons - I'd just be embarrassed!Suffice to say that all of my toons on Virtue get played - even if sporadically in some cases - so I'll count them all. But toons on other servers got made, played for a few weeks or months, then abandoned, so I won't count them.
In any case, "most" for me is the difference between one and two - I try to play all the AT's out of a sense of completeness. Here's what I have:
Scrappers - 2
Tanks - 1
Defenders - 1
Controllers - 2
Blasters - 1
Warshades - 1
Brutes - 2
Stalkers - 1
Corruptors - 3
Masterminds - 1
Arachnos Soldiers (dual-spec'd for Crab and Bane) - 1
Arachnos Widows (dual-sped'd for Widow and Fortunata) - 1
Oops - I almost forgot I actually have 3 Corruptors - so I guess thats the answer to the question, for me.
edit: out of curiosity, I went thru all my toons on other servers, and totalled them up as well. Here's my totals for ALL servers:
Scrappers - 2
Tanks - 3
Defenders - 3
Controllers - 3
Blasters - 1
Warshades - 1
Peacebringers - 1
Brutes - 2
Stalkers - 2
Corruptors - 3
Masterminds - 1
Arachnos Soldiers (dual-spec'd for Crab and Bane) - 1
Arachnos Widows (dual-sped'd for Widow and Fortunata) - 1
I still didn't include characters that were deleted. -

What's this? Looks like I managed to take down a dropship all by my lonesome!
((Are you kidding? Silver Streak taking down a dropship would be like Glass Joe KO'ing Donkey Kong!))
All that actually happened there was people were moving so fast to get to the next one, while I hung behind for a few seconds. I was trying to find out if you took damage for being in the middle of that explosion - the answer to that is no, in case anyone else didn't know. Personally, I think it'd be cool if it were an extreme self-destruct - an auto-kill within a rather large AoE. It'd be a lot of fun to see a dozen or so heroes drop outta the sky, and to hear the cries of, "Oh no!! I'm too close!!"
In any case, I'm sure this is what those aliens INSIDE the dropships were feeling like! -
That was awesome-sauce!!

Veteran Rewards for your long-time customers are nice and all, but sometimes seeing the rewards is pretty disheartening for your newer customers, especially those that are returning customers who unsubscribed before there were veteran rewards.
I have no idea how it would work, but it sure would be nice to have some mechanism to allow newer customers to "catch up".
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't agree with the whole "catching up" idea - however, I DO think ending vet rewards at some point might be a good idea.
I've been thinking about this a bit lately, and basically, I've come to the conclusion that CoH does not have a good recruiting program - and the Vet Rewards issue is part of that. Vet Rewards do what they were designed to do, well. That is, they offer incentive to keep old subscribers paying month after month, even if they're taking a break from the game. But, I have long felt that they must be disheartening to new players. Also (and I know this is off-topic - sorry), look at our Recruit-a-Friend program! Frankly, it's terrible, compared to other MMO's.
I have a bunch of rl friends who play other MMO's, and I've been trying to get them to play CoH for a long time. They, meanwhile, have been trying to get me to jump ship to WoW or WAR, or whatever game they're hooked on atm (right now it's Aion). Anyway, point is - they tried CoH, and left because, to them, the new player experience was terrible. And I gotta say, I understand their point of view on it, after trying out WoW and WAR with them - those games offer HUGE incentives to new players, and recruiters, alike. All we get is a free month - and the recruits themselves get nothing.
Sorry for rambling on - this is something I should collect my thoughts on, and perhaps post in the suggestions forums once I have concrete ideas. I really think we need to make a more concerted effort to get new players, because no matter WHAT Vet Rewards come down the pike, player retention will never be 100 percent. -

I'd love to know how many people actually qualify for the 63 month badge on the first possible day. (Which, I think discount bugs, would be 7/27?)
My main account has had an uninterrupted subscription since the 3-day pre-order head-start.
[/ QUOTE ]
Mine is this, minus one day. I turned off auto-billing at one point, cuz I was poor, and bought a one-month game card. I forgot to turn auto-billing back on at the end of the game card month, and so my account was actually down for about 16 hours before I noticed it, and quickly logged on to account management to get billing going again. I still kick myself over that one! -

Like most, mine vary from toon to toon, depending on their needs. Here's my standard UI setup. Rather cluttered, I know - I really need to get a widescreen monitor.

A PhD friend of mine (who plays the game, although he doesn't PvP) mocks his own Ivy league degree by saying it stands for Piled Higher & Deeper.

I'd be very surprised if your friend made that up. It's a very old joke:
What's BS stand for? Bull Sh..
What's MS stand for? More Sh..
...and then comes the Ph. D. -
Well, alas, I'm out of luck with the Praetorian thing. I had the idea of making a Praetorian version of my main a loooooong time ago - soon after the announcement of City of Villains. I was going to make up Mean Streak as my arch-villain - yes, the Praetorian Silver Streak, with essentially the same appearance, plus goatee.
Alas, the name has been taken for the last 4 years. I have tried Mean Streak, Mean-Streak, and MeanStreak - all taken. And I check again every month or so - cuz if one of those names ever opens up, I'm on it!
In the meantime, I'll just sulk.

Alan Moore claims that cartoon was a more accurate translation of his comic than Zach Snyder's film!
I made that up. -
Holy Doody!
Lots of exciting news in that announcement! I can see why i12's been cooking a little longer than i11 was! Looking forward to it!
And, it's about time we heard from Dr. Brainstorm again!! -

No No No! It's purely a Pez thing! The rest of Virtue begrudgingly accepts this behavior because, other than that (and a strange fetishistic obsession with pez dispensers), Pez is an alright guy!
-SS, settin the record straight!
ps. QQ! my avatar's broken! -
So, my goal at the Anniversary party was to chase down Synapse - I didn't care about any other dev sighting. You see - Synapse fancies himself The Fastest Man Alive, right? Had to put that to the challenge (since my main is a speedster)!
Really, what I was hoping for was to get a vaguely (or not so vaguely) embarrassing title, like, "Slips on Banana Peels," or "Left in the Dust by Synapse."
So, after nearly 2 hours of chasing down Synapse sightings (and ALMOST coming to the conclusion that he is, indeed, too fast to keep up with! ), I catch up to him on the ski slopes of Pocket D3! By that point, I'd seen literally 100 people with the title "Synapse's Buddy," but of course I was shooting for something a little more personalized.
So, I immediately launch into my planned taunts, and before I can even get to suggesting one of the above titles, he slaps one on me - "Like a Runaway Train"!
Wooohooo! Not the embarrassing sort I had imagined - but sweet! Probably better - will likely become my new catch phrase for my main.
The only thing more I could have hoped for, would have been for him to accept my challenge to a race - but instead he said, "I have to go to the 'little heroes' room," and left for another Pocket D! Chicken!!Too bad - it would have been super-cool to see him completely humiliate me!
Like a Runaway Train!
