Except that it's not four FULL days. Now, if it went from 9am thursday to 9am monday, then you'd be getting a full 96 hours, and then, sure, they could market it as running four days. But, as it is, it's scheduled to run only 87 hours. Sure, it'll probably actually run until server maintenance monday morning, so we'll likely get an extra 4 hours before it's turned off - but even so, that'll still come in 5 hours shy of 4 days.

I think the marketing team is playing it smart, and not promising MORE than they would technically be delivering. I could see many more people complaining about being told "four days," and demanding they be given the full 96 hours.

Right. Duh! Good point - I kinda forgot they settled, and was thinking more like the case was simply dismissed.

It was about problems I saw with the way that copyright and trademark problems acted to the detriment of the game and its players. I feel like these problems have only grown worse with time. Even today, some players feel like they HAVE to police the rest of the game's populace for IP infringements lest bogeymen lawyers descend upon the game and shut it down.
Interestingly, Cryptic seems to have a more relaxed attitude about it, nowadays. For example, in my short time playing CO, I saw a character named Tony Shark - his costume looked just like Iron Man (and I mean, JUST like Iron Man - their costume creator has even more elements that look exactly like their comic-book inspirations), with the exeption that he had a shark's head. The number of characters like that running around CO was pretty crazy - I didn't notice any actual Iron Men or Incredible Hulks, mind you, just very obvious parodies.

Of course, CoH was like that, too, around the time of launch - but NCSoft made it clear that was not kosher, even though parody is protected by law. I mean, yes, by all means, protect the game by getting rid of ACTUAL copyright violation - but, I've never understood why NCSoft takes it further than that, and genericizes characters that are NOT in violation of copyright law?

I suppose, since they actually got sued by Marvel, they do it as a goodwill gesture toward them and other copyright holders, hoping to avoid further lawsuits. Whereas, perhaps Cryptic, having actually been working with Marvel for awhile, has a better understanding of exactly where the line is drawn?
  5. Time for another Dropship Challenge?

  6. This one sounds very cool, indeed! Just got bumped to the top of my list of AE arcs to try!
  7. Hmmm - does anyone know if there's a way to change the title of a thread?

I figured, since, so far all the feedback has been, the "Inspiring Presence" Accolade power sounds cool, but people didn't like the idea of it being tied to a Vet reward, that I'd change to thread title to just: "Inspiring Presence" Accolade power. After all, that's the REAL suggestion - exactly what a player has to do to unlock it, I'm sure the devs can come up with a cool, flavorful idea for that, if not a vet reward + Hero of the City.

Anyway, I've only been able to change post titles, not thread titles. Is there a way?

Since the OP hasn't replied yet - let's see if I understand him. I believe he's asking for each costume slot to also have a build associated with it. So, instead of just Dual-builds, we'd have up to 5 builds.

I have no opinion on this - if a lot of people want it, hey, more power to 'em! But, regardless, it's not something I personally would take advantage of. I havn't even done anything with dual-builds yet, because of the cost of fully IO'ing them out - I shudder at the thought of how much it would cost to IO out 5 builds per toon!
  9. I'm with Ad Astra - having 40 or more enhancement "pockets" is, I think, way too many. It goes against the design philosophy of them.

On the other hand, I do agree that having only 10 is extremely inconvenient sometimes, now that we have both drops from the environment, and ones we invent, all going in there and taking up space. Seems to me that a SLIGHT increase in capacity would be in order, since the nature of enhancements has changed since the game launched. I'd think increasing to maybe 20 (unlocked at a certain level - maybe even starting with fewer than 10, and scaling up with levels) would still fit the original design - but I wouldn't want to see any more than that.

Heh - I first suggested this to my SG, to get their feedback, with a 30 minute recharge. The consensus there was, "Inspirations drop like candy in this game anyway, so that'd be pretty pointless. It should be like 10 minutes to be useful at all."

So, I'm sure opinions will vary on exactly how long the recharge should be, and all kinds of other particulars (some will probably say you ought to be able to drop tier 3's, for example) - none of that really matters to me, tell ya the truth. I'm sure the devs could work out what the proper power level should be - and, for that matter, what the best means to unlock the Accolade would be (I'm not married to the idea of it being a Vet reward - just seemed like a good combo, with Hero of the City, for the concept of an Inspiring hero).

Just for the record - this isn't even something (in the form I suggested) that my main hero would be able to use. Silver Streak is parked at 49 - I've never trained him to 50, for RP reasons (Statesman doesn't like him, and refuses to issue the Hero of the City badge to him ). So, I'm not just trying to get something I can exploit, or anything like that - I just think it would be appropriate and make CoH characters able to resemble comic-book characters just a little bit more.

In other words, it seems something that would be appropriate for characters like Superman, Batman, Captain America, Dr. Doom, etc (veteran/legendary characters in their own universes).

Heh - I didn't know we were only supposed to say "yea" or "nay." I thought these threads were useful to discuss a suggestion, maybe offer variants, constructive criticism, etc. Otherwise we might end up with 20 different threads about very nearly the same thing, but with slight variations.

(And every name that falls into this category would be on a character that is over level 35. Since I3 is also when the level cap was raised from 40 to 50, the pool of names you're asking to draw from is very small; lv 35-40 characters that haven't logged in for 5 years)
Actually, the level cap was raised in Issue 1 - just two months after CoH launched. So, the pool of names that havn't logged on for 5 years would include plenty of characters all the way up to level 50, and is probably quite large.

Maybe the GAME doesn't have enough events for it to matter - but players sure do. I don't know about your SG, but mine does several things a week, and we're pretty casual. I'm sure there are SG's out there that are doing things almost every day, who would find a SG-edited calendar very useful.
  15. I don't think Attache wants to open up something with that much potential for abuse, either. He mentioned there being parameters for the use of the suggested feature - I just think, whatever the parameters might be (5 year inactive account, or whatever), why not apply them universally?

Seems kind of silly to say, "here are the parameters for name-clearing, but we won't actually clear a name unless it meets those parameters AND is petitioned by a player." I'm all for regular name-purges (maybe once a year), but just don't think players should have any part in it.
  16. You know, I think it's been quite awhile since they've done a name-clear, so, on the one hand, I'd like another pass at freeing up old names that aren't being actively used, as well - but, I don't think giving players any power to do so is a good idea.
  17. I wonder if this might have the opposite result of what you're hoping - the EU servers might become even LESS populated, as people migrate to Freedom, Virtue, etc, looking for higher populations. Nevertheless, I like the idea of the server lists being merged - bigger pool of people to enjoy the game with, all-around.

You mean a general game calendar? Maintained by the devs? I'm not sure who's job it would be to update that - but, along those lines, I always thought we should have a Supergroup calendar. Nobody from Paragon Studios would have to maintain it - each SG would have an extra page in the SG Settings tab, and could set permissions for editing it as they please.

As things stand, I'm guessing most SG's just use the motd to list upcoming SG events (at least, that's what the Liberty League does) - but that's a hassle, because you have to constantly change it, don't get much text, have to string all your events together, and it severely limits other potential uses of the motd.
  19. Heh - guess that depends on your definition of a thread necro.

Personally, I don't think actually posting something of substance in a thread that's actually pretty recent constitutes a thread necro. I suppose "pretty recent" is subjective, but, oh well - opinions differ.

Now, if I'd pulled up a thread that hadn't been active for a year, and posted something like, "wootsauce," yea, that'd be a necro, and I'd fully deserve the attention of the necro police.

Heh - yea, those early days were wierd. I played a /SR scrapper from launch, and my roommate a /Regen. His main, of course, always was and still is uber, and in the days of perma-Elude, so was mine - it felt really odd in those days to always still be standing, even after any tanks we might be teamed with had face-planted.

I'm glad things got changed, so that Tanks are actually tanks!

Yea - talking about the Hami raid from back in the days of Hami Buds - ugh! As someone whose only 50 back then was a scrapper, I was DEFINATELY pleased when the Buds were removed.

As for the difference between pre- and post-i9 raiding, I'm one of those people whose never done a Hami raid post-i9, so I can't really identify a preference. However, I WAS one of the people who always felt a revision of the Hami experience would be desirable - the old experience was a little too autopilot for my tastes.

So, why have I never participated in raids post-i9? Well, I keep meaning to, just to try out the experience, but there's no real compelling reason to do it anymore! Tangential changes to the game have, I think, had a much bigger impact on Hami raids, than changes to the raids themselves! Back in the day, stocking characters with Hami-O's was the way to tweak their efficiency - post-i9, IO's generally offer much more. Most builds these days need, at most, a few Hami-O's to be at peak efficiency, and you can just buy the few you need, or get Synthetics.

As much as I felt that a revision was needed, therefore, I DO kinda miss Hami raids being a compelling end-game thing to do. I'd like to see something change (not necessarily to the raid experience, mind you - since I have yet to experience it ) to make running Hami raids more important, or more rewarding. Perhaps they could be the ONE thing in the game that offers both merits AND a drop? Obviously, the number of merits rewarded would have to be lowered if that were implemented - just spitballing, here.
  23. Well, if there's another way to make only lvl 50's unlock the power, that'd be fine, too.

The idea here is to create a little something to advance the concept of player characters being as relevant in Paragon City as the signature characters - that they're well-known and respected/feared. And we have these little things called "inspirations," so I put two and two together.

I figure it's something that's only appropriate for 50's - but, even then, not ALL 50's, so tying it in with a vet badge seemed appropriate, also. Accolades are the only way I know of to make that happen.
  24. A New Veteran badge (call it "Tenacious," maybe?). By itself, it does nothing, but is one prerequisite (the other being Hero of the City/Made badge) to grant an accolade badge called, Inspirational.

The Inspirational badge grants the power, Inspiring Presence, which allows a character to drop tier 2 inspirations on friendly targets. My suggestion would be that this is a single target click power, with a long enough recharge that it wouldn't be deemed overpowered - 10 minutes, perhaps. Another way to limit the effectiveness of the power would be to make the drop random.

The flavor text of the accolade/power could be something like, "Your deeds (exploits) are so legendary in Paragon City (The Rogue Isles), that your very presence inspires newer heroes (villains) to perform great feats of their own."

Some may balk at the idea of a vet badge that only grants something to lvl 50 characters, but at this point, it would have to be 69 months or longer - accounts that old should have at least one lvl 50. I think this would be evocative of the comic-book setting of CoH, and could be enjoyed by role-players and power-gamers alike.
  25. This idea is absolutely brilliant! Paragon Studios, you should hire this guy!
