Quote:Precisely why I was reluctant to consider the banning in the first place. Sharks are just that bad though. That's just how it is though.
In my opinion you can't compare ATs in PVP with ATs in PVE. I mean look at Tanks & Brutes. Brutes do less damage and have lower resists/defence/regen/etc. Should we change the rules to "balance" this? After all, brutes are SUPPOSED to do more damage than tanks...
Sharks does ridiculous damage. It's completely overpowered. But it's not BROKEN. It's working as intended by the devs. And we are playing their game. I don't think arbitrary rule sets are a wise thing to teach to new players.
Just my $0.02 though. -

Quote:How is that at all related? My suggestion wasn't to ban sharks because they do delayed damage. My suggestion was to ban them because, with sharks, stalkers are a more capable ranged-spiking AT than a blaster.
If you didn't realize that i said it just to show how bad your "omg bann sharks plz" looks like then i pray for you.
You say no team would lose to 8 stalkers - I don't think you've read the lineup rules, then. It would be impossible to predict when a team is going to bring 8 stalkers. It would be very easy to surprise the other team with 8 stalkers, get one octo-shark kill (roughly 4800 damage, even considering resistances and DR), and then hide for the rest of the round.
I don't like the idea of limiting the amount of X Archetype you can bring to a match. Such a provision limits lineups, not the exploit-ability of sharks. -
Corruptor LR does NOT SUPPRESS AT ALL. It is the same as it was in i12. It is completely unaffected by DR. This has been tested - note that the "numbers" are very often wrong, as more often than not they don't take DR into account.
As said earlier, no powers are currently banned. So chill out.
Also, if people are seriously comparing banning sharks to banning blaster attacks then I truly do pray for humanity.
Edit:
Powers to be looked into for potential banning by captains when the time comes:
-Controller Gale. last time I tested this it was indeed bugged.
-Defender TK: The power still has an unbreakable repel component.
-Corruptor LR: Not affected by DR
-Dominator Poisonous Ray: Not affected by DR
Anything else? -
Globals:
@Detective Silit
PvP Characters on Freedom:
1. Psi/Em Blaster
2. Grav/FF Controller
3. Elec/Wp Stalker
4. Regin
Willing to respec: Yes.
Willing to roll more toons: Yes.
PvP Experience: This one time some guy tried to kill me but no way i got regin. -
Quote:No. To everything you just said. Really, no. Get a clue, please.psi ems and sharks are realted...cuz since ppl cry that you can be killed by shark in hiber you can be ALSO killed by psi/em after being in hiber for 1000 years. The whole convo "omg shark killed me in hiber let's bann them" is just stupid just due that many other delayed powers can kill you in hiber also like shout, PB's TF etc. Should we bann those?
I agree on limiting amount of stalker per team. Realistically though 8 man stalker team would never win a match, 8 stalkers trowing sharks (3 sec duration hai) would die eventually if the team that is fighting them is not retarded. If team IS retarded they would lose regadless.
pfft i would even throw taser dart if necessary to get kills for my team :P
does Gale still have unsupressed kb? -
Note: As of now, no powers are banned. Potential banned powers and lineup restrictions will be discussed by team captains before the start of the league.

It seems that the leadership is moving toward allowing sharks (for all of the morons who can't AS), and limiting the number of stalkers in a single lineup to two.
People who are thinking about captaining teams should start getting their rosters together, and signed up.
Are there any other bugged powers that we haven't mentioned or covered? -
-
Defender TK stays on you while you take damage. Other TKs break when the target takes ANY damage (including fall damage).
A rule against sharks doesn't require anyone to respec. You can have sharks, you just couldn't use it. It's not like anyone would have to respec, unless they didn't take AS or something.
I was also under the impression that DP was fixed, and was never broken at all on blasters in the first place.
The issue with limiting stalkers is that one can still bring X amount of stalkers and spam sharks. -
Lineups are to be disclosed by the rep, as is stated.
"Procedure: A PvPEC Rep will ask both captains for their lineups at least 5 minutes prior to the start of each round. The PvPEC Rep will announce that the round is playable once they have received both team line-ups. The PvPEC Rep will NOT disclose the line-ups to anyone until both line-ups have been received."
I did have a format for lineup presentation, but it seems that it was removed from the final copy of the rules. That said, yes, we will certainly make sure that lineups are reported clearly and completely, with each AT and all powersets.
The issue with allowing wild-cards remains: Both teams have the opportunity to swap two of their players before the beginning of a round. Which team swaps first? The team that swaps last has the clear advantage, as they can use their wild-cards to counter the other team's.
As for sharks: Think back to the hero ladder. In i11, a rule was implemented limiting the number of Cagers allowed on one team. Cages were not bugged, but it was the general consensus of team leaders that allowing unlimited cagers was degenerative to the overall dynamics of arena pvp. I think sharks are the same.
Defender TK eluded me, as the "banned powers" section was made last-minute. What are your thoughts on defender TK? -
The soul storm hold only KBs if it hits while the target is on the ground. Thunderstrike is a melee. Good luck landing 8 of them at once. Also, your numbers on impale don't factor in damage resistance.
Veng was banned from the last ladder. Powers being disallowed isn't anything new. I was definitely reluctant to make the proposal that sharks be banned, but come on, really. Is anyone going to vouch for a stalker ranged attack that hits for 600+ damage?
Wildcards in the lineup: The issue with that is: Who gets to swap for their wild-cards first? Theoretically, said team could counter another team's wild-cards with their own - which would put you back to square one when it comes to preventing teams from "pulling a renegades".
If you want to dispute rules: make a separate thread. This one is not for that purpose.
FYI: Poisonous Ray and Corrupter LR are banned because they are BUGGED and not suppressing properly. -
Quote:The general consensus is that sharks are exploit worthy. A team could bring 8 stalkers, get a single shark spike kill, and then run for the rest of the match - coasting them to a win.So is Spirit Shark, but that didn't stop it from getting banned.
We considered limiting the number of stalkers allowed in a single lineup, but doing such would only limit lineup possibilities, not the exploit-ability of stalker sharks. Note that a single Spirit Shark crit hits for roughly 600 damage. Even just three stalkers would be able to spam sharks as a viable offensive technique.
A less formal explanation: Stop being bad. Learn how to AS. If team captains are in overall disagreement of the rule it will be changed. -
