You mean if it doesnt fit the character concept?
Doesnt have to, you can always make a new hero and get that veteran power...
[/ QUOTE ]
No, I mean what if you're using a non-sword using character, such as a fire blaster. You physically CAN'T use the vet reward on that character. Take a look at existing rewards and show me even one that can't be used on any character.
[/ QUOTE ]
still dont get it. of course u CAN use it.a blaster just wont benefit from it,since he mostly stays in long range. but then again a single power like that isnt anything to be relied on in battle, its just an extra.and more than anything ,its a style item.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ah. I've detected the issue.
FFM: Tres is suggesting adding a Talsorian Sword Temp Power to the character's power list.
Tres: FFM thought you just meant having the Talsorian Sword Costume option unlocked for all characters (which would be completely useless for characters without a melee weapon). -
Just made a minor amendment to the thread title for everyone on this. Not sure if I'm around this weekend (I should be), and would like to offer the services of a L45 Rad/Psi Defender who will probably need a SK, so if I can be added to the reserve list for 10/01/09, that would be awesome.

Sorry, was in a rush - posting at work with customers being demanding.
The slightly fuller explanation, for anyone who can't be bothered to translate the above:
When you first get a choice of a power from a Vet reward, if that reward provides a damage bonus dependent on your origin, you get that bonus.
However, a later Vet reward allows you to select the power that you didn't select the first time around. This selection does not provide a damage bonus dependent on origin. -
They did for the second round of selections, but not the first time you get the pick from your Vet Rewards.
-
Oh, I'm hoping!
It would probably only need a tiny error in the code for the arc merits to be doubled, after all. -
Technically it's not a Vet reward. Vet rewards offer tangible in-game benefit or items or flavour to any and all of your characters.
The bonus character slot that NC grant for every 12 months of active account is a gift from them, not a reward for your characters. -
I don't think it matters, to be honest.
The code doesn't double enhancement drops, salvage drops, inspiration drops, recipe drops or any rewards except Inf/Pres/XP. I suspect that it's been coded that way, with a "Reward Award Rate" set, and all the server does is apply that rate to those three rewards - typically 100%, but on a DXP, it would be 200%. That way it would be flexible enough to allow them to consciously add other reward types to the increased rate, but would prevent any sort of accidents occuring. Since the merit awards are not a generic level, which XP, Inf and Prestige are, but are specific to each arc, then it is highly unlikely that they will be included in the doubling of rewards.

On slightly another note...anyone have any idea if the upcoming dxp weekend will grant double merits aswell?
[/ QUOTE ]
*blink*
Good question, but I doubt it.
The rewards that have been doubled in the past have been XP/Inf/Prestige. They've never granted two rare recipe rolls on a completed TF, for instance. So I'd guess that the merit awards will be unaffected by the DXP weekend... or at least that will be the intention. They might have screwed up the code. -
I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you're talking about macros.
To which the answer is no, for me at least. Admittedly my macros tend to be pretty primitive, but they have not as yet caused me to crash at all.
Can you give us the text of the macro/macros that is/are causing this? -

Ahhh, thanks Cynic, I've never done RP so I wouldn't know that

Well, there's another challenge for you!

Eeep, no!! That way lies madness and sweaty palms!!

Hope this quote pyramid doesn't get too much...
Okay, I'm an RPer. That immediately puts me into a particular nerd-bracket, sure. And yes, us RPers have a tendency (at times - I think it's seasonal) to get heavily invested in our characters, to the extreme.
But in terms of sheer fun and having a laugh, a bit of lighthearted RP is actually really wonderful. I'd suggest to anyone (not just you, Coin) that they give it a try, just to see what it's all about. Even if that merely amounts to hanging around other people who are RPing and listening to the conversations (which sometimes get a bit deep and serious, true, but so does Real Life).
So, for anyone who thinks "Ooh, it's kind of vaguely tempting, but I don't know what to do...", then take a look HERE, and my personal recommendation is to post in the Roleplaying section of the boards saying that you're thinking of bringing a character along to see what it's like - we'll then roll out the welcome mat. -
My own personal challenges...
Well, on my main it's simply Get More Badges. 500+ and counting. I'm not quite up to Sal's level (then again who is?), but I'm regularly in Union Heroes top 50, which is nice.
My real personal challenge, though, is to get a second level 50 toon hero-side. I managed to get a villain up, and I love playing my Rad/Psi defender, so why is she stuck at 45? I think I need a DXP weekend (the first ever one pushed my main from 45 to 49, so it has a lot of potential).
Hmm... other things that I want to do... Well, Shadow Shards TF's 1 & 3 on my main (I've done the other two), for the badgey goodness. MoSTF. And more IC TFs. Oh, and an IC Hami raid. That would be awesome. -

Given that BaB is known to have gotten "carried away" with some patrons on PD before, hence the chalk outlines and what the barman says, I've always presumed it's the use of offensive powers that are somehow, lets say magically, prevented from hurting people, but physical violence clearly CAN happen at some level.
[/ QUOTE ]
The only thing I'll say about that is that all we know for certain is that at some point in the past physical violence could happen. We don't know if it's possible now. -

Why do these kind of threads get such a huge ammount of 'my character is/does/acts'?
[/ QUOTE ]Because those of us who have very strong chars dont want to be put into the same group as the Godmoding chars (i call it the kiddy pool)so they make a pre-emptive justification and defence of their powers, even though it's usualy not necesary.

*points to Shadowe for uber characters*AFAIK, note this may not be true so Shadowe will most likely have to correct me where I am wrong, but he's a living energy node or black hole or something and the only thing that stops him ruling the world is his mortality, that is to say he doesn't see himself above normal people and is fairly humble with his power.... 'With great power comesgreat responsibility'....and akll that jazz...
[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
It's not so much morality as a desire to be human that keeps him in check, but yes. That's how I understand it, and I've had a few conversations about it, both in and out of character.

Birdy is slightly closer to the overall truth than Randy on this one. Yes, Rich falls into the "uber-ultra-insanely powerful" bracket, if I were to take him to his logical extremes and if he were to ever become comfortable with what he is.
His own psychology prevents him from becoming the "god-weapon" capable of solving any and all problems. Another part of it is that I have set very careful boundaries around the level of control he has - essentially there is a sharp jump from "powers that any Energy Blaster can possess" and "whoops, I destroyed the planet", without any middle ground. He knows about this lack of control, and as such takes a great deal of care not to exceed the first one (because, let's face it, if he did destroy the planet, it would sort of screw up the game-world, wouldn't it?).
Further, he's a scientist, not a warrior. And, as Birdy pointed out, has a deep and burning desire to believe that he's still human (he's made good inroads to that, but every time he's tempted to push himself towards 'whoops', he backslides), despite the gross evidence that he's not. He doesn't know how to solve all of the problems he's faced with, except through the application of a) logic, b) charm or c) sheer brute force. And, as noted above, c) is severely limited (quite consciously by me).
All of that is wrapped up in a body that is only marginally more durable than a normal person's, extremely vulnerable to matter and energy from other realities, but that can repair itself quite readily and, in certain circumstances, ignore physical damage.
Hurt him? Easy. Physically, emotionally, psychologically. Heck, he spent one evening at the statue with a shattered jaw a little while ago. Once-upon-a-time a psychic character accidentally stumbled upon one way to essentially make him kill himself (there was a 'nick-of-time' rescue performed).
Incapacitate him? Do enough harm and he discorporates. A complete inability to take any action for at least half an hour is pretty damn good incapacitation if you ask me.
Kill him? Not a chance in hell. (Unless you're a powerful grav controller, I guess - and even then it's iffy, for reasons I won't bore you all with here, because I've not explained it IC to anyone and I like to keep the odd secret in reserve.)
At the end of the day, though, what makes him interesting to me (and has thus far prevented him from being shunned by everyone) is that he's not all about the power. His social situation is actually far more fun than "villain of the week". -
Merry Christmas, or Season's Greetings to you all!
Here's looking forward to another successful year in Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. Take care, all, and have fun! -

Cara allowed Richard to lead her to the dance floor, looking rather nervous. "Um... Well, I'm not a lot better either... Just don't tread on my feet, alright?"
[/ QUOTE ]
Richard grinned at the rejoinder, and began to dance - quite poorly - ensuring that his feet didn't encroach on Cara's person.
He succeeded quite well, for a while, until he spotted Cass off to one side, and all thought seemed to dribble from his mind, and he stood there for a moment, dumbly staring, before resuming his attempts at keeping a rhythm. -
Richard held out his hand formally to Cara, ready to lead her to the dance floor, and murmured softly to her. "My apologies in advance, my dear. My dancing ability roughly rivals the capability of a hippopotamus at tightrope walking."

more RP going on
[/ QUOTE ]
What liar told you that? Union always had the better roleplaying environment.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think he meant more variety of RP going on, rather than just dozens of middle-aged men cybering each other with their teenage lesbian catgirls.
[/ QUOTE ]
You really have no clue about what RP goes on, do you, GG? -
Richard shook his head in wonder as Annette bodily carried Claudia away. Perhaps tonight would turn out to be more interesting that he'd anticipated.
Which wasn't to say that he'd thought it would be dull, of course.
Ten more minutes, he thought, and then he'd do another round, checking on the lads and making sure none of them had snuck a hip-flask or were bunking off for a smoke... or had managed to sneak one of the girls somewhere private.
Meanwhile, of course...
He sauntered towards the dance floor, sipping on a glass of fruit punch, and found his target. "Would the lady care to dance?" he murmured softly, smiling as he waited for Cara's response. -
Richard smiled slightly, and leaned conspiratorially closer to Claudia. "Ah, my dear, we'll have to wait and see, won't we? I think I'll keep my own counsel on the matter, rather than trusting to the word of pretty young girls whom I've only just met. Though I'm willing to be persuaded."
((Christmas holiday starts here for me, folks - see you in a couple of hours)) -
Richard smiled as Cara turned away, and brought his eyes up to meet Claudia's.
"I don't believe I've had the pleasure, my dear, no. I'm Richard Huntington." He held out his hand, and smiled warmly. "Ryan seems to think that I'll be good at keeping my eyes open for trouble." He half-winked at her, murmuring, "But I see you've already found me." -
Laughing, he leaned down closer and whispered in Cara's ear, "I'm just trying to keep the attention of the prettiest girl at the ball away from the clamouring hordes of young men, my dear. Which is certainly part of my chaperoning duties. Is it working?"
-
A wry smile flickered across Richard's lips, and he turned to follow Cara as she passed him.
"Excuse me? Have we met, Miss? Perhaps my memory is getting worse, but I'm positive that I would recall a flame-haired vision of loveliness such as yourself..." He allowed himself a quick wink, then continued. "Of course, given the nature of the evening, I feel it incumbent upon me to mention that I do rather feel that the dress you're almost wearing suits you, my dear."
