Hmmm... I still got pretty unplayable jumps still in those ranges (though admittedly I haven't been in enough trials to really establish a strong frame of reference). Somebody was suggesting turning off buff notifications but I haven't tried that yet (need to figure out where the option is).

Quote:Yech. I have a friend with epilepsy (the one I mentioned who fortunately wasn't playing this game during the issues with sonic) who has literally had doctors say that sort of junk. I've witnessed the guy's muscles contract so bad during a seizure he pretty much folded back on himself, and he will just go down onto concrete or sharp objects if it hits him at the wrong time. That doesn't really fake well.I've never wanted to deck someone so badly as a certain person who was busy telling me that I, the friends who were affected and posters were all "faking" the issues the bubbles were causing, lying just to look for attention.
Quote:I'll admit (and this is probably what's been building in my case) feeling a bit ground down under the "If you don't like it, you're wrong, suck it up" feel that's been going on pretty much since Incarnates, shards, trials, etc. have come up.

Hmm... And I was going to guess Colorodo which is probably to close. I'll go out on a really wild limb and guess... Sweden? -
I'll definitely have to try and convince the next league I'm in to try that (frankly I'd rather do the seperated one anyway for the extra benefit). In the last BAF I was in, the 5 second warning that Siege was going to regenerate came up easily 5 seconds after he was already up and fighting us again. That's seriously just funny. Prior to the last patch the lag for four team leagues didn't seem much worse to me then that during a largish ITF pull so something definitely seems to have gone awry.

Wait. Can you actually name them?!?! Or is this just a "refer to" sort of thing. In any case those mechs are just so cute at this size. I figured it would just mentally process as a normal one but further away or something (since they don't seem to have much distortion, just a direct resize) but they just seem 100% more awesome when tiny.

Quote:I got it from the wikipedia page for "Diener" (which is indicates is a word for morgue workers) which says "It is derived from the German word Leichendiener, which literally means corpse servant." Yes I know wiki is dangerous about accuracy, but I liked the sound of it, as far as I can tell leichen and diener do translate roughly to those individual words, and mashing words together to make a name is hardly alien to the genre.Yeah but what it is supposed to mean? Leichendiener is not an actual german word that does exist.
Which is basically my concern if other people have similar mashed those two words or grabbed from the same wiki entry. Though its probably not much of a valid concern as you indicate.
And to answer Fleeting Whisper, it is absolutely a Necro MM (along with Force Field as a secondary, since he is basically an undead telekinetic re-animated by his own mutant power). And its dressed as an undertaker with a stylish top-hat and big old-west looking mustache. Somehow the guy has even won a few costume contests, which I just seriously don't understand (not that I'm complaining about the Inf or anything)... I even started (but didn't complete) a page for him on VirtueVerse back when I was playing that character more often: Keep meaning to get back to him someday but have been to busy with my mains. Maybe this weekend, now that I'm ranting about him I can actually feel some enthusiasm growing. -

Quote:So what I'm wondering is if they declared the Banished Pantheon had basically won in DA and just closed off the zone (perhaps moving the badges, monster, and fog effect to some lesser traveled district in another zone to reflect the Pantheon's next front of invasion): Would people actually consider that an acceptable situation or see that as a sign of decline / still to much investment in new stuff?New zone means less people in other zones, revamp old zones or delete them.
This is how it start's...
Thanks for the biggest smile I've had all day. -
Quote:I just think there is a higher chance of the latter during "anniversary" sort of events. Some of the developers have been there longer then a lot of friendships or marriages last, and its hard to imagine (to me) that after that length of time at a one job on one particular product they wouldn't start taking things a little personal. Not the general corporate entity mind you, it doesn't likely as a collective care, but the individuals behind it I would imagine have to care on some noticable level. Since even subtle, unconcious effects on mood can impact performance I think its worth considering this. I was perhaps to snarky in my tone about it earlier in this thread, but its my opinion. And I'm a snarky sort of guy. There's paying attention to what's being said, and there's taking complaints about a game as a personal attack.

Quote:Would that be the natural counter to a +6 Pool of Green Ooblek?Thats a weapon effect, same as Shields and Weapons. Not a +6 Pack of Mashy Niblic
It sort of looked to me like a tinier pack with two thrusters on the back when they were demonstating the jump. So I'm highly suspicious this is another situation where something extends from your back like the some existing temp jump packs, maybe alternately set to trigger additional animations in the big backpack if its used. Or perhaps extend out from under it if they somehow have managed to link multiple things to the same back node (which could be why its taken so long to have a backpack). -
Quote:I have a corpse in a cryo-suit (ala Coffin) ment to look sort of like an angel that will definitely benefit from those new wings in blue and white... The existing tech wings just never looked correct with all the floating pieces and transparent pieces. And the rest of the wings are just to organic or to overbearing (aka Valk wings). I'm hoping that floating sigil aura might also work (in greens or blues probably) for tech sort of projections like the defence fields in Mass Effect (as fun as the ACCUHUD is by itself, I want the whole ACCUSuit).Actually, I'm curious to see what the pieces will look like once they're in the hands of folks who aren't that big into steampunk. It'll be interesting to see what these pieces look like once folks give them some colors other than 'brown(ish)'.
My big concern is if the frequency of that gear aura can be tuned down. Having the occasional cog spin off is one thing but if its literally raining parts like implied in the one photo its usefullness is going to overwhelmed by silly. -
Quote:Now you are the one building a straw man. I initially said they probably regret things not done better, and that poking them about it on a day they likely take seriously (some of them have been working with this product for 7 or 8 years) could make them more bitter which could hurt their productivity. I hardly implied they would have a nervous breakdown (or whatever being "DEVASTATED" would entail). And I very rarely use the word "gosh" (note that last bit was a just joke, I'm still trying to keep a bemused smile over here). So saying "Oh my gosh, you shouldn't complain TODAY, they'll be DEVASTATED by it and it'll impact their future performance!"
Quote:Why don't you look at my post history and find out?
Quote:I fought (with a few others nearly continually, so no, I'm not taking sole credit here) to get the sonic shields changed due to the effect they were (physically) having on myself and other players. You'll notice they're orange now, and don't tend to cause headaches in people.

Quote:I assume the developers have human emotions: Perhaps less so then the average person (they *are* programmers), but still enough that they can feel bad about not making a better game. Based on that assumption judging what emotional impact things will have on them is perfectly valid. Now if you assume they can't be emotionally moved, which you appear to be indicating here, then complaining is not an effective technique either because you won't make them feel bad and you are not directly impacting the bottom line (a likely requirement to alter the behavior of a non-emotional entity) because you are still subscribing to their service.I hardly think they're all that broken up over (well deserved) criticism today or any other day. Or that it will "impair their future performance." Then again, having seen past performance, I'd say present and future are already there (how's that Eden trial that's been designated WST? Oh, can't start with what?)
To put it another way: How long have and others been deploying the "heavy complaining technique" to achieve your goals of a superior game? How effective has that tactic been so far in achieving your goals? Based on those answers, do you feel it is a logical method to continue with? If not, maybe you should switch tactics. Or if you assume that all tactics are not effective, maybe your time engaged in this method would be better invested in another unrelated pursuit.

If you do, perhaps some perspective is needed.
And the day my post count on any game forum (any non-professional forum really) goes past 1k is the day I'll start concerning myself with loosing perspective. -
Quote:This is totally the viewpoint to follow at a wedding anniversary, birthday, or holiday. Emotional milestones are absolutely the best time to remind people of all the negative stuff they already know and probably regret, that way they can be extra bitter going forward. And that is sure to help their productivity.
An anniversary seems like a wonderful time to reflect on the past. If they didn't want their parade rained on, they shouldn't have provided folks the water.

To me, that would be the single most awesome improvement in the creator since the merge of the hero and villain costume part lists.

Quote:Or along that line maybe he is possessed by Hami but not fully dead, and so certain actions like casting Praetorian's out at level 20 or some of the more questionable tactical decisions of his invasion are a subtle act of rebellion against his master. Basically he is *hoping* people will come back in and finish him off so he can finally die free. What if this entire time Emperor Cole wasn't quite who he said he was? What if Cole was actually dead? And the sentience inhabiting his body was...Hamidon?

Storyline wise I'd most like to see some end game content that features actual exploration of the Rikti homeworld (though everything TyrantMikey just said would be awesome). Game mechanic wise I'm fairly happy with their current approach: The Incarnate system works reasonably well in performance, advances at whatever speed I feel like investing in it at a predictable pace (as opposed to say doing the same raid 50x hoping for one particular rare helmet to drop), and frankly I don't feel I have to connect it to my characters backstory any more then I have to explain why a dozen of my characters had the same final climactic battle with Frostfire (some more then once).
I'd love if they experimented with totally different playstyles. I for instance could see an occasional mission with an RTS style battle where you remotely direct large units of supers against incoming armies (a situation some might have found themselves doing during the climactic battles of Rikti Invasions or similar events). But I don't think a lot of others would be into that.
Frankly though I'd be just as happy if they invested more of the time assigned to endgame development replacing cookie-cutter warehouses and office buildings with more unique or at least redecorated maps. Truthfully if I was really picky I'd probably have wandered off years ago, so whatever happens I'm probably good as long as something keeps happening. -
For some reason this question made me think about the game "Planescape: Torment", where you are asked the question "What can change the nature of a man?" The questioner in that case wasn't looking for a specific answer, but rather that it be the answer the main character believed was true.
So for those who enjoy the journey, its the journey. For those who focus on the destination, its the destination. And for those who like fritos... -
Quote:A long time back I reqularly played on a MUD where a goblin racial profession I was in had a unique emote that said to the triggering player something like "You bellow out your warcry." I went several years thinking this is essentially what other players saw as well, until one day one of my friends asked me why I frequently yelled "FOOD! FOOD!" in the middle of battle.in reality those binds would actually say something like "I'm an ugly American and don't care about your silly language"
Anyway, does this mean I'll actually have a server called Zukunft on my list? If so, that is just awesome. I'd be almost tempted to transfer my character Leichendiener over there... Though it might be taken now that I think of it. -
My first character (created on my wife's account experimentaly) was The Leshy, a spine + regen scrapper designed to look like a tall thin tree person. When deleted it and created my own account a few hours later my first "official" character was Robo-Santa (ice + storm controller), inspired by my Sims Online character. This was followed by The Larch, a shorter and wider (but still spine regen) copy of Leshy: He would have been called the Shrubbery, but that was already taken. Both Robo-Santa and Larch are still around (though Larch is taller) but stuck in the 20s since as my list of alts widened to about a dozen they were overtaken as mains by a dark dark defender named Repose, who in turn stalled in his 30s.
My first 50 and continued official main ended up being a martial arts + reflexes scrapper (Omnimouse) who appeared years in and once my alt list was in the multiples of dozens range. It took a while to find something I really enjoyed enough to bother going that far with...
But Larch and Robo-Santa still remember how things began, and will always hold a special place in the ranks of oddball entities I play occasionally. -
Quote:Basically its a little keychain with an lcd screen (or a phone app). The keychain you press a button or the phone you wait 30 seconds and it cycles a long number that is only valid for under a minute. You enter that latest number as a secondary password every time you log in.And, of course, there's that whole physical authenticator thingies (how do those work, anyhow?)...
When you first enable that security in account management it asks for a serial number from the little device (or one generated and recorded in the phone app) to sort out what the seed will be for numbers to expect (its obviously some complex seed+time formula), then asks you for one or two actual results from the device to confirm you actually have it.
Its only a real pain if you misplace the device somewhere.Among other things it significantly enhances security if you play at a non-home or unsecure location since even if you are keylogged they won't know what number to next expect, so only fast working "man-in-the-middle" attacks are likely to break your account.
Some banks even use these sort of things. I wouldn't mind seeing it done here.
